Hong DING ; Jie SHAO ; Wei ZHE ; Yueming ZHANG

Acta Nutrimenta Sinica.2004;0(06):-.

40 years old in 6 Uygur communities of Urumqi. The multi-phasic stratified cluster sampling method was adopted. Finally 191 men with high risk were selected as samples in the study and classified into two groups according to oral glucose tolerance test(OGTT)results, anthropometric and biochemical indicators. Results The prevalence of type 2 diabetes and IGR was 17.39% and 7.56% respecfively in the Uygur nationality. Waist-hip ratio, abdominal and waist circumference, the level of HbA1c and serum insulin of male diabetic patients were significantly higher than those of male IGR potieuts. But another four indicators of blood lipid and three indicators of renal function were not significantly different between two groups. Conclusion The indicators releted to abdominal obesity may be sensitive to diabetes and valuable to screen diabetic patients for giving effective health education and behavioral intervention in high risk population.

Dong LI ; Haifeng HOU

Acta Nutrimenta Sinica.2004;0(06):-.

Objective To investigate the effect of ginsenoside on degeneration of learning and memory in aged mice and the mechanism. Method Eighty female C57BL/6J mice aged 20-mo were randomly divided into control group and three ginsenoside treatment groups at dosage of 25,50,100 mg/(kg bw?d) respectively by drinking. In addition, 20 female C57BL/6J mice aged 3 mo were used to be young control group. Eight mo later, the learning and memory abilities of the mice were checked by Morris water maze. Thereafter, the mice were killed by decapitation, and their serum was collected to determine the level of SOD, GSH-Px and MDA. Hippocampal morphology was examined by Nissl stain; and the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in hippocampus was studied using Western blot method. Results 50,100 mg/(kg bw?d) ginsenosides administration could significantly shorten the escape latency of the aged mice in Morris water maze. Furthermore, the alleviated oxidative stress and up-regulated expression of BDNF were observed in 50, 100 (mg/kg?d) ginsenosides groups compared with aged control group. Serum level of GSH-Px was higher in 25 (mg/kg bw?d) ginsenosides group compared to that of aged control group. The number of Nissl-positive cell had no significant difference between all groups. Conclusion 50,100 mg/(kg bw?d) ginsenoside can significantly delay the degeneration of learning and memory in aged mice by lowering oxidative damage and up-regulating BDNF expression in hippocampus.

Yuna HE ; Fengying ZHAI ; Xiaoguang YANG ; Keyou GE

Acta Nutrimenta Sinica.2004;0(06):-.

To revise Chinese Diet Balance Index (DBI) based on the current Chinese Dietary Guidelines and Food Guide Pagoda . Method: Seven food components [(cereals ,vegetables and fruits, bean and dairy , animal food , alcohol ,condiments (salt and edible oil))were selected in combination with food varieties and drinking water to build up Diet Balance Index Revision (DBI-07) .The components were weighed and assigned cut-offs and scores based on the Chinese Food Guide Pagoda. Three scoring methods (LBS-low bound score, HBS-high bound score, DQD-diet quality distance) were used to evaluate the dietary quality of 26300 adults aged 18 to 79 years from 2002 China National Nutrition and Health Survey. Results: The mean LBS, HBS and DQD were 11.5,30.0 and 41.5 respectively. About 78% adult were in moderate or severe deficit of food intake, 35.1% in moderate or severe surplus of food intake, and 43.8% in severe dietary imbalance. Conclusion: DBI-07 can reflect the principles of dietary guidelines, and the scoring method can reflect both deficit and surplus of food intake. DBI-07 can be used to evaluate the dietary quality of individual or the population.
