Research on relationships between enterprising and magnanimous psychological characteristics and coping modes in cancer patients

Objective To explore the relationship between enterprising and magnanimous psychological characteristics and coping modes in cancer patients.Methods Totally 450 cancer patients were randomly chosen to analyze the correlation using enterprising and magnanimous questionnaires and cancer coping modes questionnaires.T-test,Variance analysis and Pearson analysis were employed for statisticals.Results (1) The enterprising and magnanimous psychological characteristics:cancer patients generally got lower scores in the dimensions of enterprising,magnanimous,and total score (59.30±8.09,31.98±6.24,27.32±4.02,respectively) than healthy population (67.44±5.60,34.72±4.57,32.72±3.23,respectively).In demographic level,male and female cancer patients' scores were also lower than the healthy ones'.The higher academic backgrounds they had,the better enterprising and magnanimous psychological attitudes they embraced.In the comparison of occupation,professionals in administrative and companies scored the highest in the dimensions of enterprising,workers in special techniques,commercial and service industries scored higher in the dimensions of magnanimous.All the differences were significant statistically (P<0.05).(2) Correlation analysis:the correlation index between psychological characteristics of enterprising and magnanimous and the coping modes in cancer patients was 0.463,with a positive correlation(P<0.01),and the indexes among in the dimensions of enterprising and confrontation were regarded as a positive correlation (r=0.415),and negative correlations (r =-0.139,r =-0.047,respectively) with avoidance and suppression and resignation (P<0.01).Conclusion The enterprising and magnanimous mental level of cancer patients is lower,which is related to their inappropriate responses of avoidance and suppression and resignation.

Correlation analysis of hyperarousal, personality characteristics, coping strategy with the vulnerability to stress-related sleep disturbance

Objective To explore the influence factors of hyperarousal,personality characteristics and coping strategies on the vulnerability to stress-related sleep disturbance.Methods A total of 345 sleep good healthy volunteers were recruited bypurposive sampling technique.Every participant completed an extensive survey that included the general condition questionnaire,Ford Insomnia Response to Stress Test (FIRST),PreSleep Arousal Scale (PSAS),NEO Personality Inventory-Revised (NEOPI-R),Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations (CISS) and Heart Rate Variability(HRV).All participants were classified as High risk group andLow risk group by using the FIRST criterion.Results The high risk group was younger than the low risk group (27.91±8.22 vs 24.82±7.73,P<0.01),and had a higher percentage of females (34.7% vs 53.4%,P<0.05).The high risk group showed significantly higher scores in PSAS total (30.11±6.22),pesleep cognitive arousal (17.73± 4.51),presleep somatic arousal (12.78 ± 3.23),neuroticism (3.13 ± 0.51),emotion oriented (48.98 ± 10.54),but lower score in extraversion (2.96±0.54),then those indicators of the low risk group (28.52±5.82,16.32±4.32,11.41±2.75; 3.11±0.56,2.87±0.47,46.23±11.21,3.11±0.56,P<0.01 or 0.05).There were significant difference between the two group in LF/HF (1.51 ±0.19 vs 1.17±0.11,P<0.01),HF((311.21 ±72.32) ms2/Hz vs (490.43 ± 91.74)ms2/Hz,P<0.01),LF((469.49±85.67)ms2/Hzvs (573.21±98.75) ms2/Hz,P<0.01) in HRV.Results of linear regression analysis showed that gender,and scores of PSAS total,cognitive arousal,presleep cognitive arousal,presleep somatic arousal,neuroticism,emotion oriented and LF/HF were significant correlation with FIRST score (P<0.01 or 0.05).Conclusion Presleep cognitive and somatic arousal,neurotic character may be the premorbid characteristics of stress-related sleep disturbance,and bad stress coping strategies are easy to promote the development of insomnia.

A correlation study on divergent thinking and creative potential of college students

Objective To investigate characteristics and psychological mechanisms of creativity of college students by using divergent thinking tasks and creativity potential test.Methods Totally 150 college students were selected and assessed with three types of open-ended divergent thinking tasks (unusual uses task,instances task,consequences task) and the Williams Scale of the Creativity Assessment Packet (CAP) in this study.The divergent productions were scored by two independent raters on fluency,originality,flexibility dimension,and the CAP results were analyzed on risk-taking,curiosity,imagination and complexity.Results (1) The results showed that scores on fluency,flexibility,and originality correlated with each other on each of the three different divergent thinking tasks (P<0.01).(2) Scores on fluency and flexibility among the three different divergent thinking tasks significantly correlated with each other (fluency:r=0.22,P<0.01; r=0.47,P<0.01 ; r=0.26,P<0.01 ;flexibility:r=0.26,P<0.01 ; r=0.28,P<0.01 ; r=0.18,P<0.05),while the correction coefficients of scores on originality among the three tasks were not significant.(3) Most scores of fluency or flexibility of different tasks were significandy correlated with risk-taking and imagination (P<0.05),while originality was correlated with different creativity potentials on each task (originality of instances task and imagination:r=0.18,P<0.05 ; originality of consequences task and risk-taking:r=0.26,P<0.01 ; originality of unusual uses task and complexity:r=0.17,P<0.05).Conclusion The results suggest that fluency and flexibility are the general characteristics of divergent thinking,which are associated with imagination and adventure,while originality is specific nature of divergent thinking,which is associated with various creative potentials according to the tasks.

Revision of the Chinese-version of the individual adaptability measure and its application and analysis in college freshmen

Objective To revise the individual adaptability measure (I-ADAPT-M) developed by Ployhart & Bliese,and analyze the reliability and validity of its application in college freshmen.Methods Revise the I-ADAPT-M,One thousand and seven hundred freshmen were asked to complete the test,one month later,two hundred and seventy-seven freshmen were simple randomly chosen to report their General Life Satisfaction.Then,the data were analysis by SPSS 18.0 and Amos 4.0.Results The exploratory factor analysis showed that,the Chineseversion of the I-ADAPT-M consisted of 23 projects and 4 dimensions (crisis and creativity adaptability,interpersonal adaptability,stress tolerance adaptability,and resistant learning adaptability),which could account for over 45.344% of total variance.The Cronbacha coefficient of the Chinese-version of the I-ADAPT-M was 0.82.The confirmatory factor analyzed further revealed the structure of four-dimensional scale(x2=708.80,x2/df =3.16,CFI =0.95,NNFI =0.94,RMSEA =0.051,SRMR =0.053).Male had significant high core in crisis and creativity adaptability and resistant learning adaptability than female.Female had significant high core in interpersonal adaptability than male.Colleges-leader had significant high core in 4 dimensions than general students,it suggested that the Chinese-version of the I-ADAPT-M had good discriminant validity.General Life Satisfaction of the subjects had significant positive correlation with crisis and creativity adaptability,stress tolerance adaptability and interpersonal adaptability,had little correlation with resistant learning adaptability.Conclusion The Chinese-version of the I-A-DAPT-M has good reliability and validity to measure the individual adaptability of the freshman.

Brain structure and neural network of the reward/loss process in decision making

Objective Based on the literatures published between 2005 and 2014,review the correlation between reward/loss of brain structure and neural network,and its relationship with physical and mental ailments,aim to reveal the neural structure and network of behavioral decision mechanism.Methods By retrieving literatures on PubMed,ScienceDirect,CNKI and Wanfang database in September 2014,we used decision making,reward,loss aversion and so on as the key words.Results Totally 40 papers were enrolled,the result reviewed the clinic meaning and the brain structure and neural network of the reward/loss process in decision making.Conclusion Most studies found the reward/loss decision making mechanism of the brain structure and the physical and mental ailments caused by the two systems imbalance,but related to the precise decision making neural mechanism has yet to be studied further.

Protective effects of simvastatin on injured dopaminergic neurons in Parkinson's disease rats induced by lipopolysaccharide

Objective To examine the effect of simvastatin treatment on Parkinson's disease rats induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and its mechanism.Methods The LPS-PD model was established by injection of LPS (5 mg/mL) into the right substantia nigra compacta (SNC),and rats were randomly divided into control group,LPS-model group and simvastatin treatment group with 15 rats in each group.Rats in the simvastatin treatment group was intraperitoneally administered simvastatin (5 mg/kg) before,and daily for 14 days after surgery,while the control group and LPS-model group received same volume normal saline and LPS respectively.Ionized calcium binding adaptor molecule 1 (Iba-1)-positive cells and the expression of tyrosine hydroxylase (TH),tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-1β (IL-1β) in the SNC were detected by immunohistochemistry,Western blotting and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay,respectively.The effect of simvastatin in the PD model was also examined in behavioral tests.Results The LPS-model group exhibited typical animal PD behaviors.Compared with the control group,the LPS-model group exhibited a decreased number of DA neurons,and comparison of the intact side to reduce 81.13% (P<0.01) in the SNC,as well as increases in the Iba-1-positive cell number,iNOS,IL-1β and TNF-α expression (P<0.05).These effects were inhibited by simvastatin treatment (P<0.05).Conclusion Simvastatin mediates a protective effect on dopaminergic neurons in the SNC in the LPS-PD model,possibly by inhibiting glial cells (astrocytes and microglia) activation,and playing an anti-inflammatory role,thus improving substantia nigra function.

Effect of Ginkgolide B on the expression of HIF-1α and PI3K/Akt pathway in the hippocampus of developing rats after pentylenetetrazol-induced status epileptics

Objective To explore the effects of Ginkgolide B on the expression of hypoxia inducible factor 1 α (HIF-1α) and P I3K/Akt pathway in the hippocampus of developing rats after pentylenetetrazol(PTZ)-induced status epilepticus,and to investigate the correlation between HIF-1α expression and PI3K/Akt pathway.Methods Ninety-six SD rats aged 21 days were randomly divided into normal saline group(group NS),status epilepticus group (group P),GKB treatment groups (group G+P),GKB +wortmannin treated group (group G+P+W),wortmannin treated group(group P+W).The brain tissue were harvested from the rats at 4 and 8 hours after the inducement,but in the group G+P at 1 h,4 h,8 h,24 h.Immunohistochemistry and Western blot were used respectively to detect HIF-1α and p-Akt protein expression.Results (1) For the group G+P,there were statistical differences in the expression levels of p-Akt protein between 1 h,4 h,8 h and 24 h(P<0.01),The p-Akt protein reached the peak level at 4 hours (0.85±0.03),there were statistical differences in the expression levels of HIF-1α protein between 1 h,4 h,8 h and 24 h(P<0.01),the HIF-1α expression reached the peak level at 8 hours(1.00±0.13).(2) The expression of HIF-1α in all the groups at 8 hours time point:the expression levels of HIF-1α in the group P and group G+P were significantly higher than those in the group NS (P<0.01) and the expression levels of HIF1α in the group G+P were higher than those in the group P(P<0.01).Using wortmannin,the PI3K/Akt specific inhibitor,HIF-1α protein expression in the group G+P+W and P+W was significantly decreased when compared with the group G+P and P (P<0.01).(3)The expression of p-Akt in all the groups at 4 hours time point:the expression levels of p-Akt in the group P and group G+P were significantly higher than those in the group NS (P<0.01) and the expression levels of p-Akt in the group G+P were higher than those in the group P (P< 0.01).Using wortmannin,p-Akt protein expression in the group G+P+W and P+W was significantly decreased when compared with the group G+P and P (P<0.01).Conclusion GKB can activate PI3K/Akt signaling pathway,and the pathway is involved in regulating the expression of HIF-1α.

The difference of adolescent's problematic internet use between boys and girls

Objective To investigate how internet using (both time and activities)and effortful control would contribute to the sex difference of problematic internet use (PIU).Methods A total of 844 adolescents aged 9-20 years old were selected from Chinese Academy of Sciences twin-sample by simple random sampling,with boys accounting for 45.6% and girls accounting for 54.4%.The internet using and effortful control were measured using self-report questionnaires in the first time(T1),the problematic internet use were measured after one and half years (T2).The difference and relation of Internet using,effortful control and problematic internet use between boys and girls were measured with Chi-square test,t test and correlation analysis.The moderating effect of sex between internet using and PIU were explored by utilizing regression analysis.The mediation effect of effortful control between sex and PIU were explored with Sobel test.Results The anverage internet time of working day and weekend in boys were 1.52 h and 2.12 h respectively.The average internet time of working day and weekend in girls were 1.49 b and 2.05 h respectively.Significant difference between boys and girls is not existed in the internet time (t=0.541,0.907,P>0.05).And the boy was inclined to game(x2 =47.669,P<0.01).The effortful control of boys and girls were 54.09 and 55.76 respectively.The score of boys' and girls' PIU were 22.48 and 20.72 respectively.Boys' effortful control was significantly lower than that of girls (t=-2.879,P<0.01).The score of boys' PIU was significantly higher than that of girls' (t=3.612,P<0.01).Adolescents' PIU were significantly correlated with the time,entertainment and social activities (r=0.249,0.175,0.140,P<0.01).The moderating effect of sex was significant in the relation between internet time and PIU.Significant mediation effect of effortful control existed in the PIU difference between boys and girls(Z=-2.54,P<0.05).Conclusion Significant mediation effect of effortful control exists in gender and PIU.

Optimism and suicide risk:self-esteem mediation role and life events adjustment role

Objective To explore the mediating role of self-esteem in optimism and suicidal risks,and the moderate effect of life events in optimism,suicidal risk and self-esteem.Methods 1 750 college students were surveyed with the life orientation test-revised (LOT-R),the suicidal behaviors questionnaire-revised (SBQ-R),rosenberg self-esteem scale(SES) and adolescent self-rating life events check list (ASLEC).Results The total scores of SBQ-R,LOT-R,SES and ASLEC of college students were (4.78±2.10),(23.17±3.22),(29.58±4.43)and (36.54±21.73).Optimism scores were negatively correlated with suicidal risk scores(r=-0.23,P<0.01),optimism scores were positively correlated with self-esteem (r=0.50,P<0.01).Scores of self-esteem scales were negatively correlated with suicidal risk scores(r=-0.35,P<0.01).A structure equation model consists of optimism,self-esteem,suicidal risk and it had a better degree of fitting (the path form optimism to suicidal risk were r =-0.05,P<0.05,RMSEA =0.05,GFI =0.90,NFI =0.92,CFI =0.93).The relationship between optimism and suicide risk were mediated by self-esteem(P<0.01),which accounted for 76%of the total effects.The life events' moderating effects between self-esteem and suicide risk were significant(P<0.01).Conclusion Self-esteem has a significant correlation with optimism and suicidal behaviors,self-esteem plays an intermediary role between optimism and suicidal behaviors,and life events play an regulation role between self-esteem and suicidal behaviors.

The effect of diary method on daily affect of college students

Objective To explore the effect of different diary method on daily affect of college students.Methods 75 numbers of under-graduates were randomly assigned into information recording group,feeling recording group and control group.Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and Positive And Negative Affect Scale (PANAS) were used before and after two months intervention.Results For positive emotion,ANOVA results showed no significant (P>0.05) main effect of time,a significant (P<0.05) main effect of group(2.76±0.41,2.97±0.50,3.24±0.45),and the time × group had a significant interaction (P<0.05).Simple effect analysis showed that after the intervention,the positive emotions of information recording group (2.47 ± 0.62) and feeling recording group (2.86±0.64) was lower than the positive emotions of control group(3.35±0.46) significantly(P<0.05).For negative emotions,there was no significant difference (P>0.05) in main effects of time,group and interaction;for depression,the main effect of the level of time (8.02± 5.65,5.38 ± 5.04,5.20± 5.51) was significant (P< 0.01),and main effect of group and the interaction were not significant(P>0.05).Conclusion Different diary methods have different effects on the subject's daily affect.
