Liangcai DING ; Bo BAI

Chinese Journal of Behavioral Medicine and Brain Science.2017;26(2):183-187. doi:10.3760/cma.j.issn.1674-6554.2017.02.018

Neurodegenerative diseases, which are common nervous system diseases, seriously affect people''s life quality and even lives. So the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases is attracting more and more attention in recent years. People gradually realize that endoplasmic reticulum stress is associated with the pathogenesis of many diseases through studying the function of the endoplasmic reticulum. Neurodegen-erative diseases, endoplasmic reticulum stress, unfolded protein responsewere used as the key words of retrieval performance in the databases such as Pubmed,CNKI and so on. And the papers which closely re-lated with the theme were chosen to investigate the association between alzheimer''s disease, parkinson''s dis-ease,Huntington'' s disease ,amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and ERS. It turned out that the expression of mo-lecular chaperone GRP78/Bip was increased in all neurodegenerative diseases, and the phosphorylation of eIF2α increased in most neurodegenerative diseases. However, the expression of some ERS-related factors was completely different in different neurodegenerative diseases. Thus, the study of ERS may be an important breakthrough for the pathogenesis and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.

Kunxi XUE ; Jing WAN ; Yanzhen REN ; Baoguo DU

Chinese Journal of Behavioral Medicine and Brain Science.2017;26(2):143-148. doi:10.3760/cma.j.issn.1674-6554.2017.02.010

Objective To explore the relationship between aggressive behavior with thyroid hormone or cortisol and in schizophrenic patients. Methods According to the past violence history and modified overt aggression scale( MOAS) weighted total scores,108 schizophrenic patients were divided into aggressive group ( n=69) and non-aggressive group( n=39) . Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale ( PANSS) total scores, serum thyroid hormone levels and cortisol concentration were compared between the two groups before and af-ter 2,4 weeks treatment. And correlations of PANSS and sub-scales scores, thyroid hormone levels and corti-sol concentration with MOAS weighted total scores and subscales scores were analyzed before these patients receiving treatment. Results Before treatment, total scores of PANSS,positive symptoms and general psy-chopathology scores in aggressive group((94.19±12.71),(23.77±4.94),(52.61±6.45))were higher than that in non-aggressive group ((83.26±11.21),(21.36±7.10),(45.49±6.84)) and these differences were significant(P<0.05). But the difference of PANSS total scores after 2,4 weeks treatment between the two groups was not significant (P>0. 05 ) . Free thyroxine ( FT4 ) level of aggressive group ( ( 14. 41 ± 3. 58 ) pmol/L) was higher than that of non-aggressive group ((12.95±2.66)pmol/L) before treatment and the difference was significant(P<0.05) . Meanwhile, there was no significant differences between the two groups in thyrotropic-stimulating hormone(TSH),free triiodothyronine(FT3),total triiodothyronine(TT3) and total thyroxine( TT4) levels( all P>0.05) . After 2 or 4 weeks treatment, the differences between the two groups in TSH,FT3,FT4,TT3,TT4 levels were not significant(P>0.05). The differences between the two groups of cortisol concentration were not significant before and after 2,4 weeks treatment(P>0.05) . MOAS weighted to-tal scores were positively correlated with PANSS total scores, negative symptoms scores, general psychopathol-ogy scores and level of FT4,and their r values were 0.471,0.204,0.531,0.239(all P<0.05). Verbal aggres-sion was positively correlated with PANSS total scores, positive symptoms scores and general psychopathology scores, and their r values were 0.213,0.215,0.292(P<0.05). Auto-aggression was positively correlated with PANSS total scores and general psychopathology scores, and their r values were 0.278,0.382(P<0.05) . Psy-chical aggression was positively correlated with PANSS total scores, negative symptoms scores, general psy-chopathology scores and level of FT4,and their r values were 0.361,0.193,0.338,0.276(P<0.05). Conclusion The total scores of PANSS,positive symptoms, general psychopathology scores, level of FT4 and their variances can reflect severity of aggression and predict aggressive behavior in schizophrenic patients. Concen-tration of cortisol is not associated with aggressive behavior and can not be used as a predictor of aggressive behavior in schizophrenic patients.

Wenhan YIN ; Xi LIU ; Lie YU ; Tian TIAN ; Xiaojie FU ; Hong LU

Chinese Journal of Behavioral Medicine and Brain Science.2017;26(2):97-101. doi:10.3760/cma.j.issn.1674-6554.2017.02.001

Objective To investigate the dynamic changes of microglial polarization at the perihe-matoma area and provide timepoint evidence for interventing microglial polarization as well as studying the polarization mechanism after intracerebral hemorrhage ( ICH ) . Methods Healthy male Sprague Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into sham group,ICH-4 h,1 d,3 d,7 d and 14 d groups with 6 in each group. The rats in ICH groups were injected collagenase VII-s into the caudate nucleus to establish the in-tracerebral hematoma model and rats in sham operated group were treated with the same amount of saline. The brains were taken at 4 h,1 d,3 d,7 d,14 d in the ICH group,1 d in sham group. Microglia typeⅠ( M1, CD11b++CD86+) and microglia typeⅡ( M2,CD11b++Arg-1+) were examined by immunofluorescence and the number of M1 and M2 around hematoma were analyzed. Results ( 1) The M1 and M2 were both ob-served at 4 h after ICH and a small quantity of branches were still presented on M1. ( 2) M1 took the main position in acute stage (1~3 d),early subacute stage(3~7 d) and chronic stage (>14 d) after ICH.The number of M2 was elevated transiently in superacute (<24 h) and late subacute stage (7 d).The number of M2 (31.40±1.69) was more than M1 (21.43±1.81) at 4 h after ICH ( t=- 4.085, P=0.002),and the number of M2 (116.25±5.06) significantly exceeded M1 (85.75±7.32) again on day 7 ( t=-0.690, P=0.001). Conclusion M1 is in a dominant position in acute, early subacute and chronic stages after ICH;M2 is dominant in superacute and late subacute stages. Investigating the mechanism of M2 formation at acute period ( such as 4 h) or late subacute stage ( such as 7 d) ,and inhibiting M1 formation in the early subacute stage ( 1~3 d) have important significance for clinical treatment of ICH.

Update of studies about prepulse inhibition in psychiatric disorders

Ming LEI ; Qing TIAN ; Chuanyue WANG ; Liang LI

Chinese Journal of Behavioral Medicine and Brain Science.2017;26(2):188-192. doi:10.3760/cma.j.issn.1674-6554.2017.02.019

Prepulse inhibition ( PPI) is the suppression of the startle reflex when the startling stim-ulus is preceded by a non-startling stimulus ( the prepulse) . It is an operational measurement of sensorimotor gating mechanism to help the brain adapt to the complex environment, which could be top-down modulated by attention and other higher cognitive processes. Deficits of PPI and the top-down modulation of PPI are closely related to psychiatric diseases. Research papers published from January 2001 to October 2016 related to PPI in psychiatric disorders were searched in the Chinese and English databases. Results showed that schizo-phrenic patients and their relatives showed deficits in baseline PPI as well as the attentional modulation of PPI,and more importantly, the attentional modulation of PPI rather than the baseline PPI was more related to the symptom severity. Patients with Tourette'' s syndrome showed PPI impairment, while patients with obsess-ive compulsive disorder had lower levels of PPI. PPI deficits in bipolar disorder patients were gender-depend-ent. Studying PPI and the top-down modulation of PPI could provide a basis to study the interaction of senso-ry processing and attention, and facilitate the researches of neural mechanism underlying the deficits of senso-ry gating. To establish advanced paradigms of PPI,new cognitive components could be introduced, such as at-tention,emotion,motor control, compulsivity and so on,thus improving the specificity of PPI test and promo-ting the PPI test as new biomarker and endophenotype in various psychiatric disorders.

Objective To establish the norms of Self-rated Health Measurement Scale Version 1. 0 ( SRHMS V1.0) for urban residents in Guangdong. Methods We used regional stratified random sampling method to select 6000 urban residents of 5 cities in Guangdong ( including Guangzhou, Maoming, Shantou, Shaoguan and Shenzhen) for a questionnaire investigation with SRHMS V1. 0, and establish the norms of mean, percentile and threshold based on characteristics of SRHMS V1.0 scores. Results The residents can be divided into 8 groups on the basis of gender and cut-off point of age 40,50 and 60. The mean norms of SRHMS V1.0 total scores were:(78.57±10.10),(76.93±9.90),(75.33±10.66),(69.45±13.90)for males under age40,40-50,50-60 and above 60 respectively;(77.03±10.00),(74.55±10.27),(72.24±11.76), (66.48±14.37)for females under age40,40-50,50-60 and above 60 respectively. The percentile norms of SRHMS V1.0 from 5 percent to 95 percent were established with 5% as interval. The norms of cutting off scores were established as five states according to the scores of TS,namely severe poor health, poor health,gen-eral health, good health and fairly good health, with( x-s),( x-0.5s),( x+0.5s),( x+s) as cutting off scores. Conclusion The study established the SRHMS V1.0 norms for urban residents of Guangdong preliminarily, which provides reference for further research of the population''s health status and its impacting factors.

Chinese Journal of Behavioral Medicine and Brain Science.2017;26(2):167-171. doi:10.3760/cma.j.issn.1674-6554.2017.02.015

Objective To explore the relationship between embryo damage and anxiety, depression and life events during pregnancy. Methods A case control study was carried out. 192 women diagnosed with embryo damage were selected as the case group, and 192 normal pregnant women or normal parturition within 7 days were selected as the control group from March to June,2014.All cases were from two 3-A-grade general hospitals of Jining. Self-rating anxiety scale ( SAS ) , center for epidemiological survey, depression scale( CES-D) and life events scale for pregnant women( LESPW) were used to evaluate the anxiety,depres-sion and life events of the two groups,so as to analyze the association between these factors and embryo dam-age. Results Multiple non-conditional logistic regression analysis showed that anxiety ( β=0. 409, OR=1.050,95%CI =1.003-1.009) ,depression( β=0.085, OR=1.088,95%CI =1.035-1.145) ,life events dur-ing pregnancy( β=0.003, OR=1.003,95%CI =1.001-1.005) were the risk factors of embryo damage, while education ( β=-0.749, OR=0.452,95%CI=0.298-0.685) ,pre pregnancy health status ( β=-1.366, OR=0.255,95%CI =0.098-0.655) and taking the initiative to acquire knowledge of eugenics ( β=-0.884, OR=0.413,95%CI =0.203-0.840) were the protective factors of embryo damage. Conclusion Anxiety,depres-sion and life events during pregnancy are related to the occurrence of embryo damage. High degree of educa-tion,pre pregnancy in good health and taking the initiative to acquire eugenics knowledge can reduce the oc-currence of embryo damage.
