Nutritional therapy in chronic renal failure

Huyen Tich Hoang

Journal of Medical Research.1998;7(3):47-49.

The selective low protein dietary in treatment of chronic renal failure aims at objectives in cluding reduction of symptom of hyperuremia and protection of function of rest normal kidney. However, the limitation of daily protein need will lead to lack of essential aminoacide. Use of ketoacid corresponding with aminoacid reduces the nitrogen supply, prevents the bad progress of chronic renal failure and limits the excessive filtration of glomerular, hyperphosphatemia and secondary increased para- thyroid function.

The role of transbronchial fine needle aspiration in the diagnosis of submucosal bronchogenic carcinoma

Thai Hong Hoang

Journal of Medical Research.2002;18(2):7-12.

Transbronchial needle aspiration in the diagnosis of submucosal bronchogenic carcinoma. Although exophytic endobronchial lesions can readily be diagnosed by forceps biopsy through the rigid bronchoscope. The lesion of submucosal or peribronchial by forceps biopsy difficult to diagnose by biopsy. The utility of transbronchial fine needle aspiration through rigid bronchoscope was made in 98 patients presenting with endoscopic abnormalities suggestive of submucosal bronchigenic carcinoma of respiratory department of Bachmai hospital from 3/1991 to 7/1996. Forceps biopsy was positive in 48 patients (58.77%). Transbronchial needle aspiration was positive in 88 patients (88.79%) and detected 6 cases additional carcinomas (who were treated by anti-tuberculosis of the lung). We concluded that TBNA significantly increases the yield, more effective than forceps biopsy alone in the detection of the infiltration of submucosal bronchogenic carcinoma.

Tung Quang Nguyen ; Tri Anh Nguyen ; Phan Trung Do

Journal of Medical Research.2007;47(1):13-19.

Background: Peripheral blood stem cells are today the mains source of cells for transplantation. The number of CD34 in peripheral blood of adult healthy volunteers is very low, so we have to mobilize. Objectives: To apply a protocol to collect CD4 cells in peripheral blood of normal donors mobilized by using G-CSF. Subjects and method: G-CSF (Leukokin) at a dose 10 mcg/kg/day was injected subcutaneously in 5 consecutive days for mobilization CD34 from 5 healthy donors. Count the number of CD34 everyday and collect CD34 cells in 5th \ufffd?6th day by automated blood cell separator (COBE-Spectra), observed clinical and hematilogy, biochemistry symtoms spontaneously. Results: The number of CD34 harvested is 215,5 \ufffd?570,2 x 106 CD34/donor. Almost other of parameters of hematology and biochemistry of donors were normal after one week from the last separation. Conclusion: Mobilization with G-CSF and aphaeresis of periphral blood stem cell from normal donors is feasibility and safety. The number of CD34 can be to allograft for an adult patient.

Journal of Medical Research.2007;47(1):28-32.

Background: Vietnam is located in the endemic region of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, but no data of occult HBV infection was reported at present. Objectives: To investigate the prevalence of occult HBV infection in different ethnics of people and generations. Subjects and method: 80 voluteers with HbsAg negative from five different ethnics: Kinh, Tay, Mong, Giay and Dao in a Chino \ufffd?Vietnamses border province (Lao Cai) were enrolled in the study. After HBV-DNA was extracted, nested PCR of S gene and of Core-promoter/Pre-core region were used to detect HBV-DNA. Specifying nucleotide sequence was confirmed by direct sequencing. Results:The prevalence of occult HBV infection in population study was very high 73/80 (91,3%) by nested PCR of Core-promoter/Pre-core, significantly more sensitive than nested PCR of S gene (26,3%) (p<0,0001). The prevalence of occult HBV infection was notdifferent between ethnics of people or between children, adults. Conclusion: Occult HBV infection in Vietnamese is very common; however, nationwide further studies should be carried out to confirm this preliminary results and evaluate the impact of occult HBV infection in Vietnam.

Intubation condition and side effects of different doses of succinylcholine

Thu Thi Minh Nguyen ; Tu Huu Nguyen

Journal of Medical Research.2007;47(1):44-49.

Background: Succinylcholine is drug muscle relaxant the only depolarizing current can also be used in clinical. Objectives: The current study assessed the intubation condition and side effects of different doses of succinylcholine. Subjects and method: In a randomized, double blind trial, 90 patients were divided into 3 groups. 1, 1.5 or 2 mg/kg succinylcholine was added with Fentanyl and Thiopental for induction in group I, II and III, respectively. A rapid induction and postoperative myalgia were evaluated. Results: Fasciculation time as well as myalgia increased significantly by the doses. Intubation conditions were better in group II and III. Increase of kalemia was seen in all groups, but most significantly in group III (3,7 \xb1 0,3 vs 3,3 \xb1 0,2, p<0,05). Conclusion: 1, 1.5 or 2 mg/kg succinylcholine equally provided acceptable intubation condition. Succinylcholine 2 mg/kg induced more fasciculation, myalgia and increase of kalemia.

Thanh Ngoc Vu ; Mai Thi Tuyet Vu

Journal of Medical Research.2007;47(2):22-28.

Background: Curcuminoid in crocus has a wide spectrum of therapeutic effects such as antitumor and anti-inflammatory effects, including antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, and antispasmodic activities. Curcuminoid \ufffd?biofavonoid, a component of Cucuma longa L is attracting attention of researchers because of their effects and low toxicity. Objectives:To evaluate the hepatoprotective effect of curcuminoid on acute liver injury induced by carbon tetraclorid (CCl4 and paracetamol (PAR) in mice.) Subjects and method: Curcuminoid at doses of 60mg/kg and 120mg/kg were used in 8 consecutive days before hepatotoxins ( CCl4 0.5ml/kg in olive oil or PAR 400mg/kg) in mice. Results & Conclusion: Curcuminoid has hepatoprotective effect, expressed by reductions of serum levels of ALT, AST and liver histopathological injuries, in comparison with the control group ( which didn\u2019t use any drug). Curcuminoid at doses of 60mg/kg and 120mg/kg have hepatoprotective effect on acute liverinjury induced by carbon tetraclorid and paracetamol in mice. Curcuminoid at two different doses and silymarin at a dose 67mg/kg. The result showed that just low dose of curcuminoid (60mg/kg in mice) was enough to protect liver. It was just cheaper and safer than using high dose when using high dose the effect was not increase much.\r\n', u'\r\n', u'
