OBSERVATION OF THE TREATMENT EFFECTS OF FAMOTlDlNE ON PEPTIC ULCER

Famotidine is a new H2-rceeptor antagonist with high efficieney. we used China -made famotidine 20mg twice a day to treat 80 cases of peptic ulcer. The four-week healing rate reached 71.3%, and total effectiveness was 80%. The abdomen pain disappearance rate reached 41% within a 3-day administration, 69% within a week and 94.8% after a 4-week treatment.As for side effects, only 5 cases manifested mild headache and dizziness. Clinical observation indicates that famotidine is a safe and effective therapy for peptic ulcer

GAS CHROMATOGRAPHIC DETERMINATION OF LACTATE CONCENTRATION IN CEREBROSPINAL FLUID

This paper reported the determination of lactate concentration in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) by gas chromatography. CSF was usterified by methyl alcohol, extracted by chloroform, and then a specimen of 5 ul was analyzed by chromatography. Glass column packed with 15% diethylene glycol suecinate on chemalite(60/80mesh) was used. The detector was flame ionization detector. Variance within groups was 11.33% after 10 times of repeated determinations. The recovery rate was 98.96%

Content determination of Total Saponins from Rubus parvifolius L

Objective; To establish a method for content determination of total saponins in Rubus parvifolius L.. Methods; Total saponins was determined by UV - VIS spectrophotometry after different extracts of the sample had been coloured. Results; The method was linear in the range of 22-176?g (r = 0.9997),and the average recovery was 102. 1 % , RSDwas 2. 82% (n = 6). The content of total saponins was highest by the method of 70% ethanol reflux. Conclusion; The sample is stable after coloured. The method is sensitive and reliable , which may be used for the quality control of Rubus parvifolius L. .

Significance of monoamine oxidase B activity in neurodegenerative models

Objective:To investigate the changes of monoamine oxidase B(MAO B)activity in variety of neurodegenerative animal models and to discuss their significance.Methods:The neurodegenerative models were built with NIH male mice by means of the cerebral ischemia-reperfusion,aluminum overloading and carbon monoxide intoxication,respectively.The learning and memory ability of mice,MAO B activity of brain homogenates,and pathomorphological changes of hippocampal slices were determined using Morris maze and Step-down tests,MAO B kit,as well as microscopic observation with HE stain.Result:Although the significantly decreasing learning and memory ability and loss and karyopyknosis of hippocampal neurons were observed in three groups of animal models,compared with control group,the changes of MAO B activity were quite different.There was no significant change in cerebral ischemia-reperfusion model,but the unusual elevation was found in both aluminum overloading model and carbon monoxide intoxication model.Conclusion:The abnormal increase of MAO B does not occur in a variety of neurodegenerative animal models,which may indicate that the cerebral ischemia-reperfusion model can be used in the research of dementia and aluminum overloading model and carbon monoxide intoxication model can be used in the research of both dementia and extrapyramidal disease.

THE IN VITRO INHIBITION OF CEREBRAL GABA DEGRADATION BY THE LIVER HOMOGENATE SUPERNATANT OF MICE

The cerebral GABA-T activity of mice was determined by the modified coupled-enzyme spectroflourimctry, and the method was proved stable and feasible. The cerebral GABA degradation of mice in vitro was inhibited by the sera from the mice with hepatic coma induced by galactosamine. The supernatant of liver homogenate of both control and hepatic coma groups can inhibit the cerebral GABA degradation too. The inhibitory capacity is proportional to the volume of LHS added in certain conditions, and reaches a maximum inhibitory rate of 80%. The inhibition can not be relieved by pyridoxal phosphate.The inhibitory effector of cerebral GABA degradation has been regarded as liver specific or mainly presented in the liver since no appreciable inhibition was found after the addition of the supernaiants of kidney, heart, lung and spleen homogenates. The possible contribution of GABA degradation inhibition by LHS to the pathogenesis of hepatic encephalopathy has also been discussed

SPERMATOGENESIS IN FASCIOLOPSIS BUSKI

In this study the process of spermatogenesis of Fasciolopsis buski has been observed by using the air-drying method.The results show that F. buski has the same process of spermatogenesis as that of the other digeneans. After 3 times of mitotic divisions as well as first and second meiotic divisions the spermid atage(32-cell stage) is formed through the process of the primary spermatogonial stage (1-cell stage), secondary and tertiary spermatogonia (2 - and 4-cell stages), primary and secondary spermatocytes (8 - and 16-cell stages). The spermatid then matures into 32 spermatozoa.The metaphase of spermatogonia has 14 chromosomes, which appear as "X" and "-" shapes, the metaphase I has 7 bivalent chromosomes, which form 7co-shaped con-figurations, while the metaphase II has 7 haploid chromosomes, which appear as "X" and"-" shapes, Therfore, they can be differentiated easily.Compared our results with that of Liao et al (1987), there are some differences in the descriptions of chromosomes of the metaphase I and II of meiosis, and of the metaphase of spermatogonia. The reason may be that Liao et al (1987) did not differentiate the metaphase I and II of meiosis

One hundred and eighty five cases of patent ductus arteriosus treated with surgery in the past thirty years are reported.The discussion centers on the surgical approach. The method of avoiding recurrent laryngeal nerve injury and the key-points in ductus ligation.lt is our opinion that the use of a dacron roll under the ligature, safe for ductus obliteration and avoidance of ductus rupture, is the surgical method of choice.when the ductus is associated with intracardiac anomaly, it may be managed simultaneously under extracorporeal circulation in open-heart surgery

CHROMOSOME ANALYSIS OF ENDOMETRIUM BEFORE AND AFTER CLOMIPHENE THERAPY

This article presents a technique of chromosome analysis which are prepared from human endometrium directly. The success rate was 40.3%. It was shown that there was no statistical significant differences between mitotic index of prolifera-tive and secretory phases. The same study had been carried out in women before and had been taking clomiphene for 3 cycles and 6 cycles. And also no detectable mutagenic, and no carcinogenic effects on endometrium were found

HIGH-PERFORMANCE LIQUID CHROMATOGRATHY ASSAY FOR NIFEDIPINE IN BIOLOGICAL FLUIDS AND KINETICS OF NIFEDIPINE METABOLISM BY HUMAN LIVER MICROSOMES

A high-performance liquid chromatographic method was developed to determine nifedipine in biological fluids, by using ultraviolet detection at 240 nm.Phenacetin was chosen as internal standard.A Nova-Pak C18(4 um, 3.9?150mm) was employed with methanol-water (68:32) as mobile phase. Nifedipine was extracted by ethyl acetate with a percentage of recovery about 95.3?1.0%. The limit of detection of this method for nifedipine was 4 ng for an injection volume of 20 ul. One major metabolite was formed from nifedipine after incubation with human liver microsom-es, the NADPH generating system was needed in this metabolic ptocess. Km and Vmax measured by nifedipine disappearance from roicrosomal incubation mixture were 58.0 umol/L and 1.51 nmol/mg/min, respectively
