Pilot preparation of pharmaceutical cellulose from the rice straw

Hai Minh Nguyen

Pharmaceutical Journal.2001;299(3):15-17.

Cellulose was prepared successfully from rice straw by alkali and acid method and bleached by hydrogen peroxide. The effects of percentages of sodium hydroxide, hydrogen peroxide and bleaching method on quality of the cellulose were studied. The product meets requirements of the pharmaceutical grade and may be applied for producing tablets.

Study on preparation of cellulose and microcrystalline cellulose from rice straw

Hai Thanh Nguyen

Pharmaceutical Journal.2001;301(5):14-16.

Microcrystalline cellulise was prepared successfully from cellulose was prepared successfully from cellulose of rice straw by selective hydrolytic method in dilute hydrochloride acid. Effects of percentages of hydrochloride acid, duration of hydrolysis process on productivity and coloration of the Microcrystalline cellulose collected were studied. The product was standardized and complied with it is standard. The product may be applied for producing tablets.

Study on preparing cellulose powder as excipient of tablets

Thom Thi Nguyen

Pharmaceutical Journal.2000;295(11):12-14.

Bagasse, an abundant available waste has high -cellulose content (more than 38%) and less than 1.5% as content. In Vietnam, bagasse from refinery at VietTri, VanDiem has cellilose content more than 48%. Powdered cellulose, which is used as a tablet diluent, can be prepared from bagasse. Product is a white powder and loses less than 5.7% of its weight when dried. The supernatant liquid of a 10% dispersion in water has a pH of 7.02.

Determination of the excess of insectiside excess on leaves of Crinum latifolium L. by TLC and GC

Thuy Thanh Trinh

Pharmaceutical Journal.1999;276(4):22-27.

By the methods of GC and TLC, the residues of pesticides in the leaves of Crinum latifolium L. were determined after these pesticides were used for the protection of the plant. The methods of TLC and GC can be used for evaluating the residue of some pesticides.

Investigation on the species Bifidobacterium bifidum utilized for preparing products in the treatment of intestinal dysbacteriosis

Lan Ngoc Huynh

Pharmaceutical Journal.1999;281(9):8-9.

Bifidobacterium bifidum has been used in foreign to treat antibiotics induced diarrhoea with many advantages compared to Bacillus subtilis. But in Vietnam, there are not like this. We have researched a basis to use this bacterium in a pharmaceutical product. We isolated, screened the optimal conditions to culture B. bifidum and built up the growth curve of it. An in vitro trial had been developed on rat and showed that B. bifidum had a good effect on treatment antibiotics induced diarrhoea.

Use of Iodine containing salt and preparations

Cuong Cuong Huy

Pharmaceutical Journal.1999;280(8):28-31.

It is necessary to use the iodine containing salt and preparation for disease prevention and control. However, we should not forget or consider the adverse effects of iodine containing salt and preparation in case of overdose. It should know the adverse effects of iodine containing salt and preparation and implement correctly the physician's indication to limit and control these adverse effects

A method for determination of trace content of protein in material of chitin/chitosan

Tu Thi Ngoc Nguyen

Pharmaceutical Journal.2002;319(11):23-24.

Protein trace present in chitin/chitosan product has been determined by our proposed method in which protein trace included in chitin/chitosan was extracted by refraction in 10% NaOH solution at 100oC for 5 hours. Chitin/Chitosan precipitate was discarded. protein trace in the solution was restored by neutralizing with HCl 10N to get the yellow powder. This powder was then analyzed for total nitrogen content by Kjeldahl method. The control method was conducted at the same procedure excepted from the presence of 10% NaOH. The results of different chitin/chitosan samples obtained from these two methods showed that amount of protein trace obtained from above proposed method was somewhat higher than that of the control one. Besides, the purified chitosan sample gave the lower protein trace content than that of the technical chitosan sample as well as chitin one. Protein trace bound between macromolecules of chitin/chitosan was separated in the proposed method by boiling water under alkaline condition whereas it was not completely separated in the control method because sodium hydroxide was absent.

Four years (1995-1998) activities of national program of iodine deficiency disorder control leading to the iodine deficiency eradication in 2000s and the iodine deficiency disorder eradication in 2005

Ding Tien Nguyen

Pharmaceutical Journal.1998;261(1):2-3.

There are 2 indicators of national program of iodine deficient disorder control including rate of household used iodine contained salt is 90% and above and level of ioduria of children with ages of 8-10 is 10mcg/dL and above. An investigation was carried out throughout the country. Results: the recovering level of iodine in provinces was significantly increased. The level of ioduria was improved. The morbidity rate of goiter is obviously decreased. The knowledge of women in reproductive ages for effects of iodine was improved. However, the rate of households in 9 provinces of Cöu Long river delta that used iodine contained salt is low (50%

Synthesis and study on the hypocholesterolemia effects of N,N,N-trimethylchitosan (TMC)

Chinh Van Luu

Pharmaceutical Journal.2000;293(9):9-11.

Quaternized chitosan was synthesized and structurally determined. The result showed that N,N,N-trimethylchitosan had a significant lowering cholesterol effect in blood of rats and rabbits in comparison to cholestyramine. Moreover TMC did not decrease the HDL-C (High Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol) used in treatment of arteriosclerosis.

Preliminary study on antibacterial Helicobacter pylori effect of chitosan

Duc Huu Nguyen

Pharmaceutical Journal.1999;283(11):7-9.

The preliminary in vitro susceptibilities of clinical isolated helicobacter pylori to chitosan were determined in 2 stages: 1) By testing for inhibitory activity against E.coli and P.aeruginosa, we have determined the suitable form of chitosan producing antibacterial activity was 1.7% transparent chitosan gel solution pH6. 2) The in vitro susceptibilities of 20 clinical H. pylori isolated to 1.7% transparent chitosan gel solution pH6 were determined by an agar dilution technique. The MIC value of chitosan against some H. pylori isolates ranged from 0.85 to 6.8mg/ml.
