Objective: This cross-sectional investigation aimed to determine the incidence, clinical characteristics, prognosis, and related risk factors of olfactory and gustatory dysfunctions related to infection with the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron strain in mainland China. Methods: Data of patients with SARS-CoV-2 from December 28, 2022, to February 21, 2023, were collected through online and offline questionnaires from 45 tertiary hospitals and one center for disease control and prevention in mainland China. The questionnaire included demographic information, previous health history, smoking and alcohol drinking, SARS-CoV-2 vaccination, olfactory and gustatory function before and after infection, other symptoms after infection, as well as the duration and improvement of olfactory and gustatory dysfunction. The self-reported olfactory and gustatory functions of patients were evaluated using the Olfactory VAS scale and Gustatory VAS scale. Results: A total of 35 566 valid questionnaires were obtained, revealing a high incidence of olfactory and taste dysfunctions related to infection with the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron strain (67.75%). Females(χ2=367.013, P<0.001) and young people(χ2=120.210, P<0.001) were more likely to develop these dysfunctions. Gender(OR=1.564, 95%CI: 1.487-1.645), SARS-CoV-2 vaccination status (OR=1.334, 95%CI: 1.164-1.530), oral health status (OR=0.881, 95%CI: 0.839-0.926), smoking history (OR=1.152, 95%CI=1.080-1.229), and drinking history (OR=0.854, 95%CI: 0.785-0.928) were correlated with the occurrence of olfactory and taste dysfunctions related to SARS-CoV-2(above P<0.001). 44.62% (4 391/9 840) of the patients who had not recovered their sense of smell and taste also suffered from nasal congestion, runny nose, and 32.62% (3 210/9 840) suffered from dry mouth and sore throat. The improvement of olfactory and taste functions was correlated with the persistence of accompanying symptoms(χ2=10.873, P=0.001). The average score of olfactory and taste VAS scale was 8.41 and 8.51 respectively before SARS-CoV-2 infection, but decreased to3.69 and 4.29 respectively after SARS-CoV-2 infection, and recovered to 5.83and 6.55 respectively at the time of the survey. The median duration of olfactory and gustatory dysfunctions was 15 days and 12 days, respectively, with 0.5% (121/24 096) of patients experiencing these dysfunctions for more than 28 days. The overall self-reported improvement rate of smell and taste dysfunctions was 59.16% (14 256/24 096). Gender(OR=0.893, 95%CI: 0.839-0.951), SARS-CoV-2 vaccination status (OR=1.334, 95%CI: 1.164-1.530), history of head and facial trauma(OR=1.180, 95%CI: 1.036-1.344, P=0.013), nose (OR=1.104, 95%CI: 1.042-1.171, P=0.001) and oral (OR=1.162, 95%CI: 1.096-1.233) health status, smoking history(OR=0.765, 95%CI: 0.709-0.825), and the persistence of accompanying symptoms (OR=0.359, 95%CI: 0.332-0.388) were correlated with the recovery of olfactory and taste dysfunctions related to SARS-CoV-2 (above P<0.001 except for the indicated values). Conclusion: The incidence of olfactory and taste dysfunctions related to infection with the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron strain is high in mainland China, with females and young people more likely to develop these dysfunctions. Active and effective intervention measures may be required for cases that persist for a long time. The recovery of olfactory and taste functions is influenced by several factors, including gender, SARS-CoV-2 vaccination status, history of head and facial trauma, nasal and oral health status, smoking history, and persistence of accompanying symptoms.

Objective To investigate the related factors of pathological complete response(pCR)of patients with gastric cancer treated by neoadjuvant therapy and resection,and to analyze the risk factors of prognosis. Methods The clinical and pathological data of 490 patients with gastric cancer who received neoadjuvant therapy followed by radical gastrectomy from January to December in 2008 were retrospectively analyzed.Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to identify the risk factors affecting pCR and prognosis. 4.Postoperative complications and their influence on the prognosis factors in gastric cancer patients receiving neoadjuvant treatment.

Objective: To investigate postoperative complications of patients undergoing neoadjuvant therapy followed by radical gastrectomy, and to analyze their influence on the prognosis. Methods: A retrospective case-control study was used. Case inclusion criteria: (1) gastric adenocarcinoma confirmed by histopathology; (2) preoperative imaging examination showed no distant metastasis or peritoneal dissemination; (3) undergoing radical gastrectomy and D2 lymph node dissection after neoadjuvant therapy; (4) complete clinicopathological and follow-up data. According to the above criteria, clinical data of 490 gastric cancer patients who underwent radical gastrectomy in the Cancer Hospital of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Peking Union Medical College from January 2008 to December 2018 were retrospectively collected, including 358 males and 132 females with mean age of (55.0±10.6) years. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy regimens included SOX (S-1+ oxaliplatin, n=151), XELOX (capecitabine+oxaliplatin, n=155), FLOT (docetaxel+oxaliplatin+fluorouracil, n=66), and DOS (docetaxel+ oxaliplatin+S-1, n=68). Preoperative concurrent chemoradiotherapy was performed in 100 patients. SOX regimen was used for 2-4 cycles as induction chemotherapy plus concurrent chemoradiotherapy (3D IMRT+S-1). Postoperative complications were defined as surgery-related complications, mainly including hemorrhage, anastomotic leakage, obstruction, anastomotic stenosis, pulmonary infection, abdominal infection, etc. Postoperative complications were graded according to Clavien-Dindo classification. Log-rank test and Cox regression model were used for univanriate multivariate prognostic analysis, respectively. Results: A total of 101 complications ocaured after operation in 87 (17.8%) patients, including 29 cases of major complications (Clavien-Dindo III to V), and 58 cases of minor complications (Clavien-Dindo I to II). Multivariate analysis showed that age > 65 years (HR=3.077, 95% CI: 1.827-5.184, P<0.001) and total gastrectomy (HR=1.735, 95% CI: 1.069-2.814, P=0.026) were independent risk factors for postoperative complications in patients with gastric cancer undergoing neoadjuvant therapy and radical gastrectomy (both P<0.05). The follow-up period was 0.7 to 131.8 months (median 21.5 months), and the 5-year overall survival rate was 47.4%. The 5-year overall survival rates of the complication group (87 cases) and the non-complication group (403 cases) were 33.2% and 50.9%, respectively (P=0.001). Multivariate analysis showed that age (HR=1.906, 95% CI: 1.248-2.913, P=0.003), ypTNM II to III stage (II stage: HR=5.853, 95% CI: 1.778-19.260, P=0.004; III stage: HR=10.800, 95% CI: 3.411-34.189, P<0.001), surgery time>3.5 h (HR=1.492, 95% CI: 1.095-2.033, P=0.011), total gastrectomy (HR=1.657, 95% CI: 1.216-2.257, P=0.001) and postoperative complications (HR=1.614, 95% CI: 1.125-2.315, P=0.009) were independent risk factors for prognosis, and postoperative adjuvant therapy (HR=0.578, 95% CI: 0.421-0.794, P=0.001) was an independent protective factor for prognosis. Conclusions: The occurrence of postoperative complications in gastric cancer patients undergoing neoadjuvant therapy is closely related to the age of the patients and the range of surgical resection. It is beneficial to improve the prognosis for these patients by paying more attention to the prevention of postoperative complications and the reinforcement of postoperative adjuvant therapy.

We studied the protective effect and mechanism of isorhamnetin (ISO) on 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridiniumion (MPP+)-induced SH-SY5Y cells injury. MPP+-induced SH-SY5Y cell injury model was established, and cell viability was measured by MTT and LDH methods. The activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) in cells were determined to investigate the level of oxidative stress. DCFH-DA and MitoSOX fluorescence probes were used to detect the levels of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) and mitochondria superoxide, respectively. JC-1 fluorescence probe was used to detect the changes of mitochondrial membrane potential. Western blot and immunofluorescence methods were used to determine the expressions of Sirt1 and PGC-1 proteins, as well as the expression levels of apoptosis-related proteins Bax and Bcl-2. MPP+ at the dose of 500 μmol·L-1 significantly reduced SH-SY5Y cells viability to 52.46% and increased LDH release to 417.63%. 6.Expression of PYCARD gene transcript variant mRNA in peripheral blood mononuclear cells of primary gout patients with different Chinese medicine syndromes.

OBJECTIVETo study the expression level and role of apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing a caspase recruitment domain (PYCARD) gene transcript variant mRNA in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of primary gout (PG) patients with different Chinese medicine (CM) syndromes.
METHODSThe expressions of PYCARD gene transcript variant mRNA and interleukin-1β (IL-1β) mRNA in PBMCs were investigated in 96 PG patients with acute phase (APPG, 44 cases) and non-acute phase (NAPPG, 52 cases) and 30 healthy controls (HCs) by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and/or realtime quantitative PCR. PYCARD and nuclear factor-κB (p50) [NF-κB (p50)] protein was detected by Western blot in PBMCs respectively. IL-1β, IL-4 and IL-10 protein levels in plasma of HCs and PG patients were measured by enzyme-linked immuno sorbent assay.
RESULTSThe main CM syndromes in APPG patients were obstruction of dampness and heat syndrome (ODHS, 36.36%) and intermingled phlegm-blood stasis syndrome (IPBSS, 27.27%), while in NAPPG patients were Pi (Spleen)-deficiency induced dampness syndrome (PDIDS, 40.38%) and qi-blood deficiency syndrome (QBDS, 26.92%). It showed statistical significances of the expressions of PYCARD gene and its transcript variant mRNA, the protein of PYCARD and NF-κB (p50) and the plasma IL-1β, IL-4 and IL-10 in APPG, NAPPG, ODHS, IPBSS, PDIDS and QBDS groups, compared with the HC group respectively (P<0.05 or P<0.01). There were also significant differences of mRNA expressions of PYCARD-1 and PYCARD-2 as well as protein expressions of IL-1β, IL-4 and IL-10 among the 4 CM syndromes groups (P<0.05 or P<0.01). Correlation analysis showed positive correlation between the mRNA expressions of PYCARD-1 gene transcript variant and IL-1β in APPG patients (r=0.3088, P=0.0183).
CONCLUSIONPYCARD gene and its transcript variant may play a critical and regulative role in the inflflammatory response of PG patients with different phases and CM syndromes.
7.Imaging measurement and clinical significance of occipitocervical angle in healthy people at different ages.

OBJECTIVETo measure imaging data of occipitocervical angle in healthy people at different ages by X-ray.
METHODSOne hundred and fifty asymptomatic volunteers(75 males and 75 females) aged from 20 and 70 years old with an average of(44.83±13.88) years old were divided into 5 groups according to different ages(20 to 29 years old, 30 to 39 years old, 40 to 49 years old, 50 to 59 years old and 60 to 70 years old), and 30 people in each group. All people underwent lateral radiography of neck on neutral position. McGregor line (the lowest connection line between upper margin of hard palate and occipital scales of plating), occipitocervical angle(OCA) formed by edge of C2 vertebral body, takami's occipitocervical angle formed between connection line of posterior marginal of C2 vertebral body and parallel lines of hard palate were collected. The data were performed statistical analysis according to gender and different ages, and analyzed correlation between OCA and TOCA.
RESULTSOCA of 75 males at different ages were (14.71±3.09)° and(14.22±4.27)° in 75 females. TOCA of 75 males at different ages were (90.50±4.63)° and (90.57±6.67) ° in 75 females. There were no statistical difference in OCA and TOCA in people at different ages(<0.05). There were no significant meaning among 5 groups at different ages in OCA and TOCA(>0.05). The relation analysis results showed positive correlation between OCA and TOCA(=0.454, <0.01).
CONCLUSIONSThe paper provided normal values for occipitocervical angle in population of southwestern China between 20 and 70 years old, and results may be useful for posterior occipitocervical fixation and fusion.
8.Analysis of clinical effects of absorbable hemostatic fluid gelatin and absorbable gelatin sponge on the hemostasis during operation of unilateral open-door cervical expansive laminoplasty.

OBJECTIVETo compare the hemostatic effect between absorbable hemostatic fluid gelatin (HFG) and absorbable gelatin sponge(GS) during operation of unilateral open-door cervical expansive laminoplasty.
METHODSThe clinical data of 83 patients underwent unilateral open-door cervical expansive laminoplasty from February 2014 to May 2016 were retrospectively analyzed. According to the used hemostatic materials, patients were divided into two groups. In HFG group, there were 30 males and 11 females, ranging in age from 29 to 81 years, with an average of(55.6±11.6)years; 14 cases were simple cervical spinal stenosis, 9 were cervical spinal stenosis and ossification of posterior longitudinal ligament, and 18 were cervical spinal stenosis complicated with multiple cervical disc herniation. And in GS group, there were 32 males and 10 females, ranging in age from 36 to 78 years, with an average of (55.4±11.1) years; 12 cases were simple cervical spinal stenosis, 10 were cervical spinal stenosis complicated with ossification of posterior longitudinal ligament, and 20 were cervical spinal stenosis complicated with multiple cervical disc herniation. There was no significant difference in the age, gender, and disease categories of patients between two groups (>0.05). The operative time, intraoperative bleeding, postoperative drainage, and postoperative complications were compared between two groups.
RESULTSThe average operative time, intraoperative bleeding, and postoperative drainage in HFG group were(137.2±30.0) min, (156.1±74.6) ml, and (212.1±67.6) ml, respectively; and in GS group were (154.8±33.5) min, (242.9±120.7) ml, and(303.3±115.5) ml, respectively. There were significantly differences in above items between two groups(<0.05). No acute heamatoma or related complications was found postoperatively.
CONCLUSIONSCompared with GS, HFG can obviously decrease operative time, intraoperative bleeding, and postoperative drainage. It is a safe and effective hemostatic material for the operation of unilateral open-door cervical expansive laminoplasty.
9. miR-218 expression in osteosarcoma tissues and its effect on cell growth in osteosarcoma cells

Objective: To investigate the expression of miR-218 and its clinical significance in osteosarcoma tissues and explore its effect on proliferation and apoptosis in osteosarcoma cells. Methods: miR-218 expression was detected in 76 samples of surgically resected osteosarcoma and matched normal tumor-adjacent tissues using quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). MiR-218 was over-expressed by exogenous miR-218 plasmids in Saos-2 cells, and then BrdU cell proliferation assay and flow cytometry were used to determine cell proliferation and apoptosis. 10.Comparative analysis of clinical indicators of gout patients of different syndrome types and its significance.

OBJECTIVETo understand the difference in clinical indicators of gout patients of different Chinese medical syndromes and its clinical significance.
METHODSForm November 2011 to December 2012, syndrome typed were 257 male gout in-/outpatients from Affiliated Hospital of Chuanbei Medical College. Another 50 healthy male subjects were recruited as the control. Their clinical and laboratory data were collected. All were excluded from infections and other inflammatory diseases.
RESULTSFour syndrome types existed in gout patients, i.e., intermingled phlegm-stasis blood syndrome (IPSBS), obstruction of dampness and heat syndrome (ODHS), Pi-deficiency induced dampness syndrome (PDIDS), qi-blood deficiency syndrome (QBDS). Of them, 53 acute phase gout patients suffered from IPSBS, 41 from ODHS, 25 from QBDS, and 17 from PDIDS; 41 non-acute phase gout patients suffered from QBDS, 40 from PDIDS, 24 from ODHS, and 16 from IPSBS. Statistical analysis of clinical data showed that, when compared with the normal control group, there was statistical difference in blood routines (WBC, GR, LY, MO) and blood biochemical indices (UA, Ur, Cr, ALT, AST, ALB, GLOB, TG, HDL-C, VLDL-C, apoA, apoB100) of gout patients of different syndromes (P < 0.05, P < 0.01). There was also statistical difference or correlation among different syndromes (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONSIn the acute phase gout patients, IPSBS and ODHS were dominated, while in the non-acute phase gout patients, QBDS and PDIDS were often seen. In patients of IPSBS and ODHS, inflammation and immune response were more obvious, indicating that better efficacy might be achieved by clearing heat and removing blood stasis associated anti-inflammatory and immune regulation therapies. In patients of QBDS and PDIDS, impaired renal functions were more significant, indicating that better efficacy might be achieved by invigorating Pi and tonifying Shen dominated treatment.
