Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) diseases are common clinical conditions. The number of patients with TMJ diseases is large, and the etiology, epidemiology, disease spectrum, and treatment of the disease remain controversial and unknown. To understand and master the current situation of the occurrence, development and prevention of TMJ diseases, as well as to identify the patterns in etiology, incidence, drug sensitivity, and prognosis is crucial for alleviating patients′suffering. This will facilitate in-depth medical research, effective disease prevention measures, and the formulation of corresponding health policies. Cohort construction and research has an irreplaceable role in precise disease prevention and significant improvement in diagnosis and treatment levels. Large-scale cohort studies are needed to explore the relationship between potential risk factors and outcomes of TMJ diseases, and to observe disease prognoses through long-term follw-ups. The consensus aims to establish a standard conceptual frame work for a cohort study on patients with TMJ disease while providing ideas for cohort data standards to this condition. TMJ disease cohort data consists of both common data standards applicable to all specific disease cohorts as well as disease-specific data standards. Common data were available for each specific disease cohort. By integrating different cohort research resources, standard problems or study variables can be unified. Long-term follow-up can be performed using consistent definitions and criteria across different projects for better core data collection. It is hoped that this consensus will be facilitate the development cohort studies of TMJ diseases.

Inertial microfluidics,as a microfluidic technology with the ability to precisely manipulate particles and cells with high throughput, has attracted widespread attention. However, challenges remain in achieving particle focusing with insensitivity to flow rates in large-scale channels, mainly due to the instability of secondary flows within the inertial microfluidic chip. This study developed a microstructure-assisted ultra-low aspect ratio spiral microchannel, which utilized the stability and acceleration of secondary flows to achieve inertial particle focusing. The research results demonstrated successful particle focusing within a 1 mm-wide spiral channel chip, for different diameter sizes(7.3 μm and 15.5 μm),within a wide range of flow rates(0.5-3 mL/min).The focusing efficiencies for these particles were measured to be above 94%and 99%,respectively.Additionally,it was observed that the particle focusing position was approximately 100 μm away from the channel walls, significantly larger than other inertial focusing chips.Consequently,by incorporating ordered microstructures within the spiral channel chip, the stability and enhancement of secondary flows were achieved, resulting in flow rate and particle size-insensitive inertial focusing.Compared to traditional methods of inertial focusing, this design had advantages of not requiring additional sheath flow operations, and boasted high throughput and ease of manufacturing. This innovative structure opened up vast prospects for the development of portable inertial microfluidic chips, and could be used in the fields such as cell analysis and detection, flow cytometry, and online sample processing.

Objective:To explore the effect of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) on interleukin-33 (IL-33)/growth stimulation expressed gene 2 (ST2) signaling pathway in the dorsal root ganglia (DRGs) of rats modeling hyperalgesia (HP).Methods:This study consisted of two experiments. In the first, 30 Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into a blank group, a Sham-HP group, an HP group, an antibody group and an inhibitor group, each of 6. HP was induced in all except the rats of the blank and Sham-HP groups by injecting carrageenan (Car) and prostaglandin E2 subcutaneously at the bottom of the left hind feet. The antibody and inhibitor groups were then given intrathecal injections of anti-ST2 antibody and a tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α)-specific inhibitor, respectively. In the second experiment, 42 SD rats were randomly divided into a Sham-HP group, an HP group, a TENSⅠgroup, a TENS II group, a TENS I inhibitor group, a TENS II inhibitor group, and a Sham-TENS group, each of 6. All of the groups had HP induced as in experiment one. All of the rats except those in the Sham-HP, HP and Sham-TENS groups were then given TENS, and the TENS I and II inhibitor groups were offered intrathecal injection of TNF-α-specific inhibitors. Mechanical pain thresholds (MPTs) were documented 4h, 24h, 48h, 72h, 6d, 7d 4h, 7d 1h, and 7d after the Car injections. Western blotting was used to measure the protein expressions of IL-33, ST2 and TNF-α 6d after the Car injection in both experiments. Results:In experiment one, the average MPTs of the HP, antibody and inhibitor groups had decreased significantly 4 hours after the Car injection compared with the blank and Sham-HP groups. However, 7d 1h after the Car injection the value had increased significantly in the Sham-HP, antibody and inhibitor groups compared with the HP group, while the expressions of IL-33, ST2 and TNF-α had decreased significantly. In experiment two, by 4 hours after the Car injection, the average MPT of all the other groups had decreased significantly compared with the Sham-HP group. Moreover, by 7d 1h after the Car injection, the average MPTs of the groups receiving TENS had increased significantly, with significantly lower MPT in the TENS Ⅱ group than in group Ⅰ, on average. There was also significantly higher expression of IL-33, ST2 and TNF-α in group II. Compared with the TENS Ⅰ and Ⅱ groups, the average MPT was significantly higher in the TENS I and Ⅱ inhibitor groups, but IL-33, ST2 and TNF-α expression was lower. Conclusions:TENS can inhibit TNF-α expression, which influences the signals of the DRG IL-33/ST2 signaling pathway to reverse hyperalgesia. TENS combined with anti-TNF-α treatment is superior to TENS alone in treating hyperalgesia.

Chinese journal of integrative medicine 2023;29(4):341-352
BACKGROUND:
Primary dysmenorrhea (PD) is the most common complaint associated with menstruation and affects up to three-quarters of women at some stage of their reproductive life. In Chinese medicine, navel therapy, treatment provided at Shenque (CV 8), is used as a treatment option for PD.
OBJECTIVE:
To evaluate the effect of navel therapy on pain relief and quality of life in women with PD, compared with Western medicine (WM).
METHODS:
China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Chinese Scientific Journal Database (VIP), SinoMed and Wanfang Database, MEDLINE, the Cochrane Library, Embase, Web of Science, and the International Clinical Trial Registry of the U.S. National Institutes of Health were searched from their inceptions to April 1, 2021. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing therapeutic effects of navel therapy on PD were eligible for inclusion. RevMan 5.4 software was used for data analyses. The certainty of the evidence was assessed using the online GRADEpro tool.
RESULTS:
Totally 24 RCTs involving 2,614 participants were identified. Interventions applied to acupuncture point CV 8 included: herbal patching, moxibustion or combined navel therapy (using at least 2 types of stimulation). Compared to placebo, there was a significant effect in favor of navel therapy on reducing overall menstrual symptom scores at the end of treatment [mean difference: -0.82, 95% confidence interval (CI): -1.00 to -0.64, n=90; 1 RCT]. As compared with Western medicine, navel therapy had a superior effect on pain intensity as assessed by Visual Analogue Scale at the end of treatment [standardized mean difference (SMD): -0.64, 95% CI: -1.22 to -0.06, I2=80%, n=262; 3 RCTs]; on symptom resolution rate at 3-month follow-up (risk ratio: 1.94, 95% CI: 1.47 to 2.56, n=1527, I2=38%; 13 RCTs); and on global menstrual symptoms score at the end of treatment (SMD: -0.67, 95% CI: -0.90 to -0.45, I2=63%, n=990; 12 RCTs). Subgroup analyses showed either a better or an equivalent effect comparing navel therapy with Western medicine. No major adverse events were reported. The methodological quality of included trials was poor overall.
CONCLUSIONS
Navel therapy appears to be more effective than Western medicine in decreasing menstrual pain and improving overall symptoms of PD. However, these findings need to be confirmed by well-designed clinical trials with adequate sample size (Systematic review registration at PROSPERO, No. CRD42021240350).

OBJECTIVES:
To investigate the clinical treatment outcomes and the changes of the outcomes over time in extremely preterm twins in Guangdong Province, China.
METHODS:
A retrospective analysis was performed for 269 pairs of extremely preterm twins with a gestational age of <28 weeks who were admitted to the department of neonatology in 26 grade A tertiary hospitals in Guangdong Province from January 2008 to December 2017. According to the admission time, they were divided into two groups: 2008-2012 and 2013-2017. Besides, each pair of twins was divided into the heavier infant and the lighter infant subgroups according to birth weight. The perinatal data of mothers and hospitalization data of neonates were collected. The survival rate of twins and the incidence rate of complications were compared between the 2008-2012 and 2013-2017 groups.
RESULTS:
Compared with the 2008-2012 group, the 2013-2017 group (both the heavier infant and lighter infant subgroups) had lower incidence rates of severe asphyxia and smaller head circumference at birth (P<0.05). The mortality rates of both of the twins, the heavier infant of the twins, and the lighter infant of the twins were lower in the 2013-2017 group compared with the 2008-2012 group (P<0.05). Compared with the 2008-2012 group, the 2013-2017 group (both the heavier infant and lighter infant subgroups) had lower incidence rates of pulmonary hemorrhage, patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), periventricular-intraventricular hemorrhage (P-IVH), and neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (NRDS) and a higher incidence rate of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONS
There is a significant increase in the survival rate over time in extremely preterm twins with a gestational age of <28 weeks in the 26 grade A tertiary hospitals in Guangdong Province. The incidences of severe asphyxia, pulmonary hemorrhage, PDA, P-IVH, and NRDS decrease in both the heavier and lighter infants of the twins, but the incidence of bronchopulmonary dysplasia increases. With the improvement of diagnosis and treatment, the multidisciplinary collaboration between different fields of fetal medicine including prenatal diagnosis, obstetrics, and neonatology is needed in the future to jointly develop management strategies for twin pregnancy.

Chinese Journal of Neurology 2022;55(2):109-116
Objective:To investigate the clinical characteristics of cerebral hemorrhage caused by tentorial dural arteriovenous fistula (TDAVF).Methods:An unusual TDAVF case admitted to the Department of Neurology, Qilu Hospital, Shandong University in March 2020, complicated with hypertension with successive bilateral basal ganglia hemorrhage in short term was reported. The characteristics of cerebral hemorrhage caused by TDAVF reported in the literature were summarized and analyzed. Results:Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) revealed that there was arteriovenous fistula in the tentorial foramen area of this patient (male, 33 years old), and the TDAVF was fed by the right meningohypophyseal trunk, bilateral middle meningeal artery and posterior cerebral artery. A shunted pouch was present in the tentorial foramen area, and retrograde reflux drainage was seen in the deep venous system, from the meningeal vein to superior sagittal sinus or sigmoid sinus. Transarterial embolization was performed and subsequently DSA showed obliteration of the fistula. This patient experienced no clinical decline or rehemorrhage during the 12 months follow-up period. Forty-one cases of TDAVF with hemorrhage of cerebral parenchyma which were reported before March 30, 2021 with detailed clinical and imaging data were summarized. The average age of onset of this group of patients was 57.2 years, and the ratio of male to female was about 3∶1. The hemorrhage was located in superior of the tentorium in 17 cases (41%), while in inferior of the tentorium in 24 cases (59%). Supratentorial intracerebral hemorrhage mainly occurred in occipital lobe and thalamus. DSA showed that the arteriovenous fistula was classified as Borden type Ⅲ or Cognard type Ⅳ in 36 cases (88%). Twenty-nine patients (71%) underwent a single surgical procedure, while 12 cases (29%) underwent combined surgical or other treatments. Overall, 37 patients (90%) achieved angiographically documented obliteration of the fistula and 39 patients (95%) experienced good or excellent outcomes. Conclusions:TDAVF often presents as cerebral parenchymal hemorrhage which is common in supratentorial region, but rare in basal ganglia region. The cause of cerebral hemorrhage in patients with hypertension may not be attributed to hypertension. Early diagnosis and intervention are of great significance to improve the prognosis of patients.

Journal of Peking University(Health Sciences) 2022;54(3):511-519
OBJECTIVE:
To describe the distribution characteristics of inflammatory bowel disease among permanent residents in Yinzhou District, Ningbo City, and to understand the disease burden and development trend of inflammatory bowel disease in this area.
METHODS:
Using the retrospective cohort design, we collected the registration information of all permanent residents in the residents' health files of the Yinzhou Regional Health Information Platform from 2010 to 2020, and used electronic medical records to follow up their inflammatory bowel disease visits. A one-year wash-out period was set, and the patients who were diagnosed with the primary diagnosis for the first time after one year of registration were re-garded as new cases. The incidence density and 95% confidence interval (CI) of inflammatory bowel disease were estimated by Poisson distribution.
RESULTS:
From 2011 to 2020, a total of 1 496 427 permanent residents in Yinzhou District were included, of which 729 996 were male (48.78%). The total follow-up person-years were 8 081 030.82, and the median follow-up person-years were 5.41 [interquartile range (IQR): 5.29]. During the study period, there were 1 217 new cases of inflammatory bowel disease, of which males (624 cases, 51.27%) were more than females (593 cases, 48.73%). The total incidence density was 15.06/100 000 person-years (95%CI: 14.23, 15.93). Among all new cases, there were 1 106 cases (90.88%) of ulcerative colitis, with an incidence density of 13.69 per 100 000 person-years (95%CI: 12.89, 14.52); 70 cases (5.75%) of Crohn's disease, with an incidence density of 0.87 per 100 000 person-years (95%CI: 0.68, 1.09); and 41 cases (3.37%) of indeterminate colitis, with an incidence density of 0.51 per 100 000 person-years (95%CI: 0.36, 0.69). The median age of onset of ulcerative colitis was 50.82 years old (IQR: 18.77), with the highest proportion (15.01%) in the 45-49 years group. The incidence density of ulcerative colitis gradually increased with age, reaching a relatively high level in the 45-49 years group (20.53/100 000 person-years; 95%CI: 17.63, 23.78), followed by a slight increase. And the incidence density in the 65-69 years group was the highest (25.44/100 000 person-years; 95%CI: 20.85, 30.75), with a rapid decrease in the 75-79 years group. The median age of onset of Crohn's disease was 44.34 years (IQR: 33.41), with the highest proportion (12.86%) in the 25-29 years group. Due to the small number of new cases of Crohn's disease, the age distribution fluctuated greatly, with peaks both in young and old people. From 2011 to 2020, the incidence density of inflammatory bowel disease in Yinzhou District was at a low level from 2011 to 2013, and showed a rapid upward trend from 2014 to 2016, reaching a peak of 24.62 per 100 000 person-years in 2016 (95%CI: 21.31, 28.30), and slightly decreased in 2017-2020.
CONCLUSION
The incidence density of inflammatory bowel disease in Yinzhou District from 2011 to 2020 was at a relatively high level, and medical institutions and health departments need to pay attention to the burden of disease caused by it.

Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion 2022;42(8):879-883
OBJECTIVE:
To explore the effect of electroacupuncture on endometrial receptivity and the pregnancy outcomes of in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET) in the patients with diminished ovarian reserve (DOR).
METHODS:
Sixty-eight patients of DOR undertaken IVF-ET were randomized into an observation group (34 cases, 2 cases dropped off) and a control group (34 cases, 1 case dropped off). In the control group, endometrial preparation was performed according to the routine protocol. In the observation group, on the base of the treatment as the control group, acupuncture was applied to Geshu (BL 17), Shenshu (BL 23), Mingmen (GV 4), Shiqizhui (EX-B 8), Ciliao (BL 32), Zhongliao (BL 33), Tianshu (ST 25), Qihai (CV 6) and Guanyuan (CV 4), etc. Electric stimulation was given at Ciliao (BL 32)-Zhongliao(BL 33), Tianshu (ST 25)-Zigong (EX-CA 1), with disperse-dense wave, 2 Hz/15 Hz in frequency and tolerable current in intensity. Electroacupuncture was given once every two days, 3 times weekly, lasing 3 menstrual cycles till 1 day before embryo transfer. The endometrial thickness and morphology were observed on the day of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) of egg retrieval cycle, the day of endometrial transformation in frozen-thawed embryo transfer (FET) cycle and the day of embryo transfer in both groups successively; as well as HCG positive rate, clinical pregnancy rate, embryo implantation rate and live birth rate.
RESULTS:
In the observation group, the proportion of type A endometrium on the embryo transfer day was higher than those on HCG day of the egg retrieval cycle and the endometrial transformation day of FET cycle (P<0.05), and also higher than that of the control group (P<0.01). In the observation group, HCG positive rate, clinical pregnancy rate, embryo implantation rate and live birth rate were 75.0% (24/32), 71.9% (23/32), 47.4% (27/57) and 56.3% (18/32) respectively, and all higher than 36.4% (12/33), 30.3% (10/33), 18.0% (11/61) and 15.2% (5/33) in the control group separately (P<0.01).
