AIM:To observe the clinical efficacy of vitrectomy at different times for open ocular trauma and explore the timing of stage Ⅱ vitrectomy.METHODS: Retrospective case series study. A total of 60 cases(60 eyes)with open ocular trauma who visited our ophthalmology department from June 2022 to February 2023 were included. They were divided into treatment group A(interval ≤14 d)and treatment group B(interval >14 d)based on the interval between the stage Ⅰ emergency treatment surgery and the stage Ⅱ vitreoretinal surgery. Among the 32 cases(32 eyes)in the treatment group A, 16 eyes(50%)had eyeball rupture, 13 eyes(41%)had penetrating injury, and 3 eyes(9%)had perforating injury. Among the 28 cases(28 eyes)in the treatment group B, 15 eyes(54%)had eyeball rupture, 12 eyes(43%)had penetrating injury, and one eye(4%)had perforating injury. The two groups of patients were followed-up for 6 mo after surgery, and the treatment effects were compared.RESULTS:There was no statistically significant difference in visual acuity between the two groups of patients before vitrectomy(P>0.05). In the treatment group A, 10 eyes(31%)had significantly improved visual acuity, 21 eyes(66%)had effectively enhanced visual acuity, and 1 eye(3%)had no improvement in visual acuity at 6 mo after surgery. Among the 28 eyes in the treatment group B, 5 eyes(18%)had significantly improved vision, 16 eyes(57%)had effectively enhanced vision, and 7 eyes(25%)had no change in vision, with statistically significant difference between the two groups(U=322.5, P=0.032). There was no significant difference between the treatment group A and the treatment group B in complications such as secondary glaucoma, silicone oil dependence, vitreous hemorrhage, and eyeball atrophy(P>0.05). There was no evidence of traumatic proliferative vitreoretinopathy(TPVR)in the treatment group A during postoperative follow-up, which was significantly lower than that of the treatment group B(P<0.05).CONCLUSION:The prognosis of the stage Ⅱ vitrectomy for open ocular injury is relatively good after completing the stage Ⅰ surgery within 2 wk.

AIM:To summarize the clinical features and prognostic factors of patients with open ocular trauma in northwest China, and to explore the application of ocular trauma score(OTS)in open ocular trauma.METHODS:The clinical data of 91 patients(91 eyes)with open ocular trauma admitted to Xijing Hospital from June 2021 to June 2023 were retrospectively analyzed. The correlation analysis of visual acuity prognosis was carried out by age, treatment time, initial visual acuity, trauma zone and other factors, and the relationship between different OTS and prognostic visual acuity was discussed.RESULTS:Univariate analysis showed that age(0-20 years), treatment time(<24 h), initial visual acuity, trauma zone, trauma type(penetrating injury), anterior chamber hematoma, vitreous hematoma were correlated with prognostic visual acuity(all P<0.1); multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that initial visual acuity and treatment time(<24 h)were risk factors(both P<0.05). There was a significant correlation between different OTS and prognostic visual acuity(rs=0.639,P<0.001).CONCLUSION:Patients with open ocular trauma should be diagnosed and treated as early as possible. The main factors influencing the visual prognosis are age, treatment time, initial visual acuity, trauma zone, trauma type, anterior chamber hematoma and vitreous hematoma. OTS has good application value in visual acuity evaluation of open ocular trauma prognosis.

Objective To analyze the clinical characteristics and risk factors of small airway dysfunction(SAD)in patients with asthma.Methods The clinical data of 200 patients with chronic persistent asthma were included,including general data,disease-related condition,pulmonary function test result,compliance assessment and asthma control status.The clinical features of the two groups were compared.Logistic regression was used to analyze risk factors for asthma SAD,and ROC curves were plotted to assess the predictive power of the model.Results Two hundred patients were divided into the SAD group(128 cases)and the non-SAD group(72 cases).The main risk factors of SAD in patients with chronic persistent asthma included smoking history(OR=4.758,95%CI:2.043-11.081),overweight(OR=2.952,95%CI:1.428-6.105),asthma without clinical remission(OR=6.140,95%CI:2.929-12.870),acute asthma attack in recent 1 year(OR= 3.406,95%CI:1.430-8.117)and allergic rhinitis(OR=2.289,95%CI:1.121-4.673).The area under the curve(AUC)of above risk factors were 0.612,0.610,0.716,0.614 and 0.600,respectively.The AUC of the composite prediction model was 0.826(95%CI:0.769-0.883),which had good prediction value.Conclusion Smoking,overweight,acute asthma attack in recent one year,non-remission period of asthma and allergic rhinitis are independent risk factors for SAD in chronic persistent asthma.The risk factors of SAD should be identified as early as possible,and individualized monitoring and treatment should be taken.

Background: Blackened intestines in slaughtered pigs have been commonly observed in China in recent years. However, no cause has been reported. Objectives: We attempted to determine whether the blackening of the pig intestine was related to an excess of copper (Cu) in their feed. Methods: In this study, we observed and collected porcine intestines in small- and large-scale pig slaughterhouses in Shandong province from May to October 2018. Twelve types of metal ions were detected in the black intestinal samples. Results: The Cu level in the intestine samples was mostly higher than the Chinese national limit for food. Further study showed that Cu supplementation in most commercial porcine feed also exceeded the national standard. An animal model (mouse) that could mimic the intestinal blackening in pigs was established. Compared to control mice, Cu accumulated in the liver and intestines of mice fed an excessive Cu level, confirming the excessive Cu in the feed may be considered the major cause of blackened porcine intestines. Microscopic examination revealed that black intestines had many particles containing Cu in the lamina propria of the intestinal mucosa, and the intestinal mucosal epithelial cells showed degeneration and necrosis. Conclusions In conclusion, overuse of Cu in animal feed can lead to animal poisoning and Cu accumulation in animal products. Such overuse not only harms the health of livestock but can also affect public health.

Background: Pseudorabies, also known as Aujeszky's disease, is caused by the pseudorabies virus (PRV) and has been recognized as a critical disease affecting the pig industry and a wide range of animals around the world, resulting in great economic losses each year. Shandong province, one of the most vital food animal-breeding regions in China, has a very dense pig population, within which pseudorabies infections were detected in recent years. The data, however, on PRV epidemiology and coinfection rates of PRV with other major swine diseases is sparse. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the PRV epidemiology in Shandong and analyze the current control measures. Methods: In this study, a total number of 16,457 serum samples and 1,638 tissue samples, which were collected from 362 intensive pig farms (≥ 300 sows/farm) covered all cities in Shandong, were tested by performing enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Results: Overall, 52.7% and 91.5% of the serum samples were positive for PRV-gE and -gB, respectively, based on ELISA results. In addition, 15.7% of the tissue samples were PCR positive for PRV. The coinfection rates of PRV with porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2), porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus, and classical swine fever virus were measured; coinfection with PCV2 was 35.0%, higher than those of the other two viruses. Macroscopic and microscopic lesions were observed in various tissues during histopathological examination. Conclusions The results demonstrate the PRV prevalence and its coinfection rates in Shandong province and indicate that pseudorabies is endemic in pig farms in this region. This study provides epidemiological data that can be useful in the prevention and control of pseudorabies in Shandong, China.

Objective To investigate the incidence of cognitive dysfunction in postpartum women who underwent epidural or non-drug labor analgesia and the influence factors.Methods A prospective cohort study was performed in 1 618 uneventful singleton pregnancies in International Peace Maternity and Child Health Hospital from January 2017 to January 2018.Women who received epidural labor analgesia were assigned to the epidural group (n=803),and those who received Doula technique non-drug labor analgesia rather than labor analgesia to the control group (n=815).Cognitive function was assessed using symbol digit modalities test (SDMT90) and Montreal cognitive assessment (MoCA) 1 d and 42 d after delivery.Incidence of maternal cognitive dysfunction,SDMT90 scores and pain intensity measured by visual analogue score (VAS) at the cervical dilatation of 3,6 and 10 cm between the two groups were compared using independent sample t-test,Chi-square test or logistic regression analysis.Results MoCA and SDMT90 scores of the epidural group were significantly higher than those of the control group 1 d after delivery (27.1 ± 1.5 vs 26.2± 1.8,49.1 ±2.4 vs 42.5 ± 3.6;t=3.775 and 16.956,both P＜0.05),but the incidence of postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) in the epidural group was remarkably lower comparing to the control group [13.9％ (112/803) vs 21.2％ (173/815),x2=14.769,P=0.002].The VAS scores of the epidural group at the cervical dilatation of 3,6 and 10 cm were all lower than those of the control group (2.3 ± 0.6 vs 6.9± 1.3,3.3 ± 0.9 vs 8.7± 0.9,5.7± 0.9 vs 9.7± 0.4;t=0.013,0.011 and 0.015;all P＜0.001).Logistic regression analysis indicated that VAS scores ≤ 3 at the cervical dilatation of 3,6 and 10 cm were protective factors against the incidence ofPOCD 1 d after delivery [OR(95％CI):0.238 (0.198-0.287),0.180 (0.145-0.222) and 0.112 (0.088-0.142),all P＜0.001],while the absence of epidural labor analgesia was a risk factor (OR=4.698,95％CI:1.812-11.321,P＜0.001).Conclusions Epidural labor analgesia can reduce the incidence of postpartum cognitive dysfunction in women 1 d after delivery.The incidence of POCD has close relationship with the VAS scores at the cervical dilatation of 3,6 and 10 cm and epidural labor analgesia.

Point Dingchuan (Ex-B1) pertains to extraordinary points and often produces a good therapeutic effect on respiratory system diseases. Ancient Chinese medical books do not record point Dingchuan. Modern Chinese medical textbooks describe the location and efficacy of and indications for this point but do not state their provenances. In order to further popularize the clinical application of point Dingchuan, this article verifies the origin and development of the name and location of point Dingchuan so as to provide a certain reference for clinically correct selection and use of this point. The results show that point Dingchuan followed the course of development from ashi point to new point and then to extraordinary point. The development of point Dingchuan to the same acupoint name and location as now international use went mainly through four stages, that is, similar name and different location, similar name and location, same name and different location, and same name and location.

Objective To investegate the effect of phosphorylated-P38 MAPK(mitogen-activated protein kinase) on the expression of caspase-3 in the substania nigra (SN) of MPTP-induced mouse model of(PD). Methods Mice were randomly divided into MPTP model group, which were treated with MPTP and inhibitor group. Once a day for 5 days; control group was treated with saline and DMSO as much as the model group received per day for 5 days. The behavioral were observed, immunohistochemistry and Western blot for TH, caspase-3 and phosphorylation of P38 MAPK were used to observe the change of positive cell number and the expression level in the SN of midbrain. Results Compared with the mice in control group, the model group showed typical symtoms of PD with decreased numbers of TH-positive neurons and the protein level of TH in SN of the midbrain by about 60% and 65% respec-tively(P<0.01) , the numbers of caspase-3 and phosphorylation of P38 MAPK immunoreactive cells and their protein level in the SN of the midbrain increased markedly (P<0.01). After giving SB203580, the above changes were reduced obviously (P <0. 01). Conclusion In the mouse model of subacute Parkinson's disease induced by MPTP, phosphorylated-P38 MAPK regulated caspase-3 in the SN of midbrain, the specific P38 MAPK inhibitor SB203580 is neurologically oprotective to the mouse model.

OBJECTIVE:Allele frequencies and forensic parameters for six miniSTR loci(D10S1248,D14S1434,D22S1045,D4S2364,D2S441 and D1S1677)were analyzed in a population of 173 unrelated Chinese Han population individuals from Northeast China.METHODS:The six miniSTR loci were preformed in two multiplex fluorescent PCR systems.ABI 310 Genetic Analyzer was utilized in capillary electrophoresis and the lengths of allele fragments were analyzed.Genetic data collection and analysis software were used for data collection and genotyping.Statistical analysis was performed to the data.RESULTS:The six miniSTR loci showed a moderate degree of polymorphism in Han population from Northeast China.The observed allele sizes were from 67 bp to 115 bp,and the observed heterozygosity ranged from 0.728 to 0.827.The combined power of discrimination and the combined power of exclusion for the six miniSTR loci in Northeast China were 0.999 99,and 0.993 31,respectively.CONCLUSION:The six miniSTR showed a moderate genetic polymorphism in Han population from northeast of China.Due to their small size of PCR amplicon,the six miniSTR could be useful supplements to the CODIS STRs,and they would be useful in population genetics and forensic analysis.
