OBJECTIVES:
This research was performed to explore the effect of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) on the apoptosis of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) in ischemia and hypoxia environments.
METHODS:
The cell viability of BMSCs incubated under hypoxia/ischemia (H/I) conditions with or without pretreatment with MIF or triglycidyl isocyanurate (TGIC) was detected using cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) analysis. Plasmids containing long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) maternally expressed gene 3 (MEG3) or β-catenin small interfering RNA (siRNA) were used to overexpress or downregulate the corresponding gene, and the p53 signaling pathway was activated by pretreatment with TGIC. The influences of MIF, overexpression of lncRNA MEG3, activation of the p53 signaling pathway, and silencing of β-catenin on H/I-induced apoptosis of BMSCs were revealed by western blotting, flow cytometry, and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT)-mediated dUTP nick-end labeling (TUNEL) staining.
RESULTS:
From the results of CCK-8 assay, western blotting, and flow cytometry, pretreatment with MIF significantly decreased the H/I-induced apoptosis of BMSCs. This effect was inhibited when lncRNA MEG3 was overexpressed by plasmids containing MEG3. The p53 signaling pathway was activated by TGIC, and β-catenin was silenced by siRNA. From western blot results, the expression levels of β-catenin in the nucleus and phosphorylated p53 (p-p53) were downregulated and upregulated, respectively, when the lncRNA MEG3 was overexpressed. Through flow cytometry, MIF was also shown to significantly alleviate the increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) level of BMSCs caused by H/I.
CONCLUSIONS
In summary, we conclude that MIF protected BMSCs from H/I-induced apoptosis by downregulating the lncRNA MEG3/p53 signaling pathway, activating the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway, and decreasing ROS levels.

Objective:To analyse the effects of mandibular swing approach in the treatment of the tumors in infratemporal fossa. Methods:11 patients with tumors in infratemporal fossa treated by the surgical operation with mandibular swing approach. The mandi-ble cut was at the front of foramina mentale in 5 cases, at the front of mandible angle in 4 cases and at the middle of chin in 2 cases re-spectively. Results:According to the nature, location, size and the relationship of the tumors with peripheral nerve and blood vessels, flexible selection of the position of mandibular cut could fully expose and completely remove the infratemporal fossa tumor. Conclusion:Surgical treatment of the tumors in infratemporal fossa by mandibular swing approach is safe and effective.

Objective:To analyse the methord and effects of intermaxillary traction(IMT)screws used in the treatment of jaw frac-ture.Methods:In the treatment of 1 68 cases of jaw fracture IMT screws were used for the restoration of normal and stable occlusion. The screw number, position, traction effect and postoperative complications of the treatment were analysed.Results:705 screws were used in 168 patients,4 screws were used in each of 147 cased (88%),6 in 12(7%),5 in 9(5%).336(47.7%)screws were fixed between the roots of first and second premolar,292(41 .4%)between the roots of canine and first premolar,50 (7.1%)be-tween the roots of second premolar and first molar,27(3.8%)between the other tooth roots.Normal postoperative occlusion relation was achived by the use of screws in 92 cases without traction.Occlusion disharmony or deviation was found in 76 cases by the used of screws and was restored to normlal by 1 4-day traction in 71 cases. The total efficiency of the treatment was 97%.Pain of the mucosa surrounding the screws was observed in 23 cases (1 3.7%).Root damage, traction screw loosening and adjacent tooth dislocation were observed in 1 3(1 .8%),1 1 (1 .6%)and 2(0.3%)cases respectively. Conclusion:For the fixation of IMT screws, the posi-tions between tooth root from canine to first molar were most common and safe. The fixation point should be in 5 ~8mm below the gin-gival margin.Use of 4-6 screws can meet treatment need.

Objective To explore the relationship between therapeutic dosage of ultrasound ablation in treatment of uterine fibroids and imaging characteristics of bloody supply of uterine fibroids by color Doppler ultrasound imaging. Methods One hundred and forty-two patients with 168 fibroids were treated by ultrasound ablation. Before treatment, bloody supply of fibroids were classified into grade 0 -4 by ultrasonography. Three patients lost follow-up with contrast MRI exam within 1 month after treatment, so 165 fibroids were enrolled in this study. Bloody supplies were 9 fibroids in grade 0, 34 fibroids in grade 1, 35 fibroids in grade 2, 55 fibroids in grade 3 and 32 fibroids in grade 4. After 1 month treatment, the treated area without blood supply and ratio of ablation were measured by contrast MRI to evaluate the efficacy of thermal ablation and compare status of blood supple based different therapeutic dosage. According to International Reditherapy for Society ( SIR ) standard, adverse effect and score of pain were evaluated. Results ( 1) Ratio of ablation based; ratios of ablation were 79% in grade 0, 89% in grade 1, 92% in grade 2, 86% in grade 3, 71% in grade 4. It reached statistical difference when blood supply of grade 0 compared with those of grade 2 and 3 (P < 0. 05 ) and blood supply of grade 4 compared with those of grade 1, 2, 3 ( P < 0. 05). (2) Factor of energy efficiency:factor of energy efficiency were 13.19 J/mm3 in degree 0, 9. 54 J/mm3 in degree 1, 12. 91 J/mm3 in degree 2, 17. 83 J/mm3 in degree 3 and 28. 10 J/mm in degree 4. Factor of energy of ablation in degree 4 was significantly higher than those in degree 1, 2 and 3 blood supply (P < 0. 05). It exhibit the positive relationship between blood supply and factor of energy of ablation ( r = 0. 354 ,P < 0. 01). ( 3 ) Score of pain and adverse effect: nearly 85% ( 120/142 ) patients could tolerate this treatment very well. Those scores of pain were in range of 0 to 4. All patients did not extend their hospitalization and C to F of SIR standard was not recorded. Conclusion blood supply of myoma measured by ultrasound could predict dosage of ultrasound ablation, it could help select indicated well patients.
