Intermittent theta burst stimulation (iTBS), a time-saving and cost-effective repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation regime, has been shown to improve cognition in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, the specific mechanism underlying iTBS-induced cognitive enhancement remains unknown. Previous studies suggested that mitochondrial functions are modulated by magnetic stimulation. Here, we showed that iTBS upregulates the expression of iron-sulfur cluster assembly 1 (ISCA1, an essential regulatory factor for mitochondrial respiration) in the brain of APP/PS1 mice. In vivo and in vitro studies revealed that iTBS modulates mitochondrial iron-sulfur cluster assembly to facilitate mitochondrial respiration and function, which is required for ISCA1. Moreover, iTBS rescues cognitive decline and attenuates AD-type pathologies in APP/PS1 mice. The present study uncovers a novel mechanism by which iTBS modulates mitochondrial respiration and function via ISCA1-mediated iron-sulfur cluster assembly to alleviate cognitive impairments and pathologies in AD. We provide the mechanistic target of iTBS that warrants its therapeutic potential for AD patients.

Objective To analyze the characteristics of adult anomalous aortic origin of coronary artery(AAOCA)and the causes of missed diagnosis by transthoracic echocardiography(TTE)so as to facilitate TTE in diagnosing adult AAOCA.Methods A total of 37 adult patients with AAOCA diagnosed by non-invasive coronary CT angiography(CCTA)and/or invasive coronary angiography(ICA)were selected as research samples at some hospital from January 2019 to December 2022,and their clinical symptoms and the findings of 12-lead electrocardiogram, cardiac enzymes and TTE were summarized;the patients were typed according to the site of origin of coronary artery anomalies, and the causes for the missed diagnosis of TTE were eplored.Chi-square test was used to compare the differences in TTE missed diagnoses. Results Of the 37 patients,31 ones had no or only mild symptoms;most ones had negative results in terms of 12-lead electrocardiography, cardiac enzymes, changes in the size of the cardiac chambers, segmental ventricular wall motion abnormalities and left ventricular systolic function. The patients with anomalous origin of the right coronary artery from left sinus(ARCA-L)gained the largest proportion of 59.45%(22/37);21 patients were diagnosed with anomalous origin of coronary artery arising from the opposite sinus(ACAOS)in the two examinations of TTE,of whom there were 19 cases of ARCA-L,and the detection rate of ACAOS by TTE was 87.5%;all the 13 patients origins in branches and high-grade openings were missed by TTE.The detection rate of ACAOS by TTE was significantly higher than that of coronary artery anomalies originating in branches and in high openings, and the difference was statistically significant(21/24 vs 0/13,P<0.001).Conclusion Most adult AAOCA patients lack specificity in symptoms and related examination results.TTE has a high detection rate of ACAOS,while it is easy to miss the diagnosis of coronary artery anomalies originating from branches and high openings.Ultrasonographers have to identify false negative AAOCA by multi-section and multi-angle scanning and color Doppler flow imaging in order to reduce the rate of missed diagnosis.[Chinese Medical Equipment Journal,2024,45(1):71-75]

Methods Articles on low-level occupational benzene exposure from Chinese and English journals from January 1st, 2000, to December 31th, 2022 were retrieved using the Web of Science and the China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and a bibliometric analysis was conducted. Results A total of 327 articles were included in the analysis, comprising 216 English articles and 111 Chinese articles. i) The number of articles published in English fluctuates greatly over the years, without a trend of continuous growth or decline. Authors from 359 research institutions in 45 countries and regions have published relevant English articles in 97 kinds of journals, involving 281 grants from 226 foundations. The top three countries in terms of articles amount were the United States, Italy, and China, with 81, 46, and 43 papers, respectively. The English articles mainly focused on mechanistic research at the genetic level, such as hematotoxicity, oxidative stress, and DNA damage. ii) The number of Chinese articles increased gradually after 2012, with the growth peak in 2017. Authors from 127 research institutions in 26 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities published Chinese articles in 51 kinds of journals, involving 154 grants from 78 foundations. Chinese articles tended to focus on benzene-induced hematotoxicity and occupational health damage. Conclusion Most studies on low-level occupational benzene exposure were conducted in China, the United States and Italy, focused on hematotoxicity. Monitoring international research topics and hotspots of the field has certain reference value for related research in China.

Chinese Journal of Analytical Chemistry 2024;52(6):866-875
Amino acid surfactants (AAS) have excellent properties such as low toxicity, antibacterial, mildness, and corrosion resistance. In recent years, they have been widely applied in the field of daily chemicals, food and pharmaceutical industry. It is pointed out that the structure at molecular level largely affects the physical and chemical properties of AAS materials. In this work, the structures of solid-state N-lauroyl-L-alanine (NLLA) including intermolecular interactions, molecular local dynamics and molecular assembly were investigated by a variety of solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (SSNMR) techniques. Based on 2D 1H-1H double quantum-single quantum (2D 1H-1H DQ-SQ),1H-1H DQ sideband pattern and molecular simulation,it was found that there was a stable intermolecular hydrogen bond formed between the carboxyl units of two NLLA molecules. Combined with the study of 2D frequency switched Lee—Goldberg heteronuclear correlation (2D 13C-1H FSLG-HETCOR) and 13C T1,another type of hydrogen bond was probed, which existed between amide units of neighboring molecules. In addition, the conformation of alkyl chain ends was investigated. According to 1D 13C{1H}cross polarization/magic angle spinning (CP/MAS) and 2D 13C-1H FSLG-HETCOR spectra,it was revealed that the alkyl-chain ends had both gauche and trans conformations. Moreover, the trans conformation showed two distinct 13C chemical shifts, originated from two NLLA molecular assembly forms. Accordingly, two NLLA molecular assembly structures were suggested which were transoid form and cisoid form. This work provided a SSNMR investigation strategy for characterizing the molecular local structure and dynamics of AAS materials, which helped task of researching and developing materials with improved chemical and physical properties.
