AIM: To explore the current status, research hotspots, and trends of global uveitis research to provide a theoretical basis and references for researchers in the field of uveitis, and promote further development in this area.METHODS: Relevant literatures on uveitis were retrieved from the China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI)database, Wanfang database, and Web of Science core collection database since their establishment until 24 August 2023. The country/publishing institutions, research authors, high-frequency keywords, and burst keywords were visual analyzed by using software such as GraphPad Prism 9, CiteSpace 6.2. R2, and VOSviewer.RESULTS: Research teams for uveitis have been formed in various countries globally. The top three countries in terms of publications are the United States of America(7 585 papers), the United Kingdom(2 412 papers)and Germany(1 679 papers). The top three foreign institutions in terms of publications are Harvard University, Oregon Health & Science University, and Moorfields Eye Hospital, while the top three domestic institutions are Affiliated Eye Hospital of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chongqing Medical University, and Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, Sun Yat-sen University. The analysis of high-frequency keywords and burst keywords in Chinese and English shows that research hotspots mainly focus on exploring pathogenesis and different treatment methods for uveitis. The research hotspots related to uveitis treatment are transitioning to molecular biology-related research topics, such as molecular biological signaling pathways(NF-κB signaling pathway with a strength value of 22.89), biological agents(adalimumab with a strength value of 32.21), and tumor necrosis factor(with a strength value of 48.44). Related research is also expanding to basic experiments on relevant rats.CONCLUSIONS: In recent years, the research hotspots and trends of global uveitis mainly focus on precise diagnosis, pathogenesis, and more effective treatment methods. It is important for more scholars to dedicate themselves to uveitis-related research in the future to make breakthroughs and progress in the field. More large-scale and multicenter clinical studies on uveitis can provide high-quality research evidence.

Objective:To investigate the clinical value of left ventricular shape index (SI) and eccentricity index (EI) in evaluating left ventricular remodeling. Methods:A retrospective analysis was performed on 324 patients (264 males, 60 females, age (62.5±11.8) years) diagnosed with myocardial infarction (MI) and 113 healthy controls (HC; 47 males, 66 females, age (57.8±10.7) years) who received gated myocardial perfusion imaging (GMPI) in First Hospital of Shanxi Medical University from January 2016 to September 2020. SI (end-diastolic SI (EDSI), end-systolic SI (ESSI)), EI and left ventricular function parameters (end-diastolic volume (EDV), end-systolic volume (ESV), left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), summed motion score (SMS), summed thickening score (STS), peak ejection rate (PER) and peak filling rate (PFR)) were obtained by quantitative gated SPECT (QGS) software. Propensity score (PS) inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) was used to balance the intergroup covariates. The differences and correlations of EDSI, ESSI, EI and left ventricular function parameters between patients in MI group and HC group were analyzed. ROC curve analysis was used to evaluate the values of EDV, EDSI, ESSI and EI alone and in combination in the assessment of left ventricular systolic function impairment. Data were analyzed by independent-sample t test, Pearson correlation and Spearman rank correlation analyses, and Delong test. Results:After IPTW, EDSI and ESSI in MI group ( n=319) were higher than those in HC group ( n=133; EDSI: 0.66±0.09 vs 0.60±0.06; ESSI: 0.59±0.11 vs 0.47±0.07; t values: 8.05, 14.67, both P<0.001), and EI was lower than that in HC group (0.81±0.06 vs 0.85±0.03; t=-8.93, P<0.001). In both groups, there were significant correlations between EDSI and ESSI ( r values: 0.928, 0.873), between EDSI, ESSI and EI ( r values: from -0.831 to -0.641), between EDSI, ESSI and LVEF ( r values: from -0.627 to -0.201), between ESSI and EDV, ESV and SMS ( rs values: 0.336-0.584), between ESSI and -PER, PFR ( rs values: from -0.406 to -0.402, r values: from -0.352 to -0.325) (all P<0.01). ROC curve analysis showed that EDV (AUC: 0.895) and ESSI (AUC: 0.839) had the highest efficacy in evaluating left ventricular systolic function impairment in MI group and HC group, respectively. EDV-EDSI-ESSI-(1-EI) had higher efficacy in the assessment of impaired left ventricular systolic function in MI group (AUC: 0.956), which was higher than that of EDV or EDV-EDSI or EDV-ESSI or EDV-(1-EI) ( z values: from -2.64 to -2.18, P values: 0.008-0.029); EDV-EDSI-ESSI-(1-EI) also had high efficacy in HC group (AUC: 0.911), which was higher than that of EDV or EDV-EDSI or EDV-(1-EI) ( z values: from -2.60 to -2.43, P values: 0.009-0.015). Conclusions:In MI patients, the increase of SI and the decrease of EI indicate the increase of left ventricular sphericity and the aggravation of left ventricular remodeling. SI and EI have certain clinical application values in evaluating left ventricular morphology, predicting left ventricular remodeling and left ventricular systolic function impairment.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the effects of different drying aids on the hygroscopic property of extract powder of modified Liujunzi decoction (MLJZD), and screen the best drying aid. METHODS MLJZD extract was mixed with β-cyclodextrin, microcrystalline cellulose, lactose, arabic gum, maltodextrin, corn starch, mannitol, dextrin, soluble starch and pre-gelatinized starch at the mass ratio of 1∶0.3 and 1∶0.5, respectively. The extract powder was prepared after vacuum drying. Physical fingerprints were established with 8 physical indexes, including moisture content, bulk density, vibrating-solid density, gap rate, Carr index, Hausner ratio, angle of rest and hygroscopicity, and then similarity evaluation was performed. The matrix hotspot map was drawn to analyze the influence of physical indexes on hygroscopicity. The moisture absorption rate of MLJZD extract powder was measured at room temperature for 2, 4, 8, 10 h and 1, 2, 3, 7 d. The moisture absorption rate-time curve was drawn, and the best auxiliary materials were selected by comparison. RESULTS The similarity evaluation results of physical fingerprint showed that the prepared MLJZD extract powder were stable and the similarities were above 0.90. The matrix hotspot analysis showed that there was significant correlation between bulk density and vibratory density and the moisture absorption rate of the MLJZD extract powder (P<0.05). The moisture absorption rate-time curve analysis showed that the moisture absorption rate of MLJZD extract powder prepared with the mass ratio of 1∶0.5 was lower than prepared with the mass ratio of 1∶0.3. Under both ratios, lactose showed the best drying aid effect, followed by soluble starch and mannitol. CONCLUSIONS Lactose, as the drying aid (under the mass ratio of 1∶0.5), can obviously improve the hygroabsorbance effect of the extract powder of MLJZD, which provides a reference for the selection of auxiliary materials for MLJZD solid preparations.

		                        			OBJECTIVE
To elucidate the mechanisms responsible for the inhibitory effects of limonene on the proliferation of non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC) by non-targeted metabolomics and additional approaches.
METHODS
The CCK-8 assay was utilized to evaluate the inhibitory effects of limonene on NSCLC A549 cell viability and to ascertain the IC50. In vitro experiments, encompassing colony formation, flow cytometry, iron content assessment, and mitochondrial staining, were conducted to assess the anti-lung cancer and iron-induced cell death effects of limonene. Metabolomic analysis was employed to identify potential pathways influenced by limonene, and Western blotting was carried out to validate pivotal proteins within these pathways.
RESULTS
In comparison to the control group, the limonene-treated group demonstrated a significant, dose-dependent reduction in A549 cell proliferation and colony formation. Optical microscopy revealed cellular detachment and pronounced changes in cellular morphology following exposure to limonene. Limonene induced apoptosis in A549 cells and arrested them in the G0-G1 phase of the cell cycle. Confocal microscopy unveiled diminished mitochondrial fluorescence and an augmented intracellular iron content, indicative of the classical phenomenon of ferroptosis. Metabolomic investigations unveiled divergent metabolic pathways, including glutathione(GSH) metabolism, arginine biosynthesis, D-glutamine and D-glutamate metabolism, as well as cysteine and methionine metabolism, with many of them intricately linked to intracellular GSH synthesis. Western blotting experiments underscored a marked reduction in the levels of SLC40A1, SLC7A11(xCT), and GPX4 proteins within the cells post-limonene treatment.
CONCLUSION
Limonene may induce ferroptosis in lung cancer cells by reducing GSH synthesis and increasing Fe2+ levels.

Objective To develop a rapid and accurate Monte Carlo program(simplified code for dosimetry of carbon ions,SPEEDO)for carbon ion therapy. Methods For electromagnetic process, type Ⅱ condensed history simulation scheme and continuous slowing down approximation were used to simulate energy straggling, range straggling, multiple scattering, and ionization processes. For nuclear interaction,5 types of target nuclei were considered, including hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and calcium. The produced secondary charged particles followed the same condensed history framework. The study simulated the transport of carbon ions in 4 materials(water, soft tissues, lung, and bone),and the calculated doses were validated against TOPAS(a Monte Carlo simulation software for radiotherapy physics),followed by a comparison with dose measurements in a water phantom from the HIMM-WW(a medical heavy-ion accelerator facility in Wuwei). Results SPEEDO's simulation results showed good consistency with TOPAS.For each material,in the voxel region where the physical dose was greater than 10%of the maximum dose point, the relative maximum dose error of both was less than 2%.At treatment energy of 400 MeV/u,SPEEDO's computation time was significantly less than that of TOPAS(13.8 min vs 105.0 min).SPEEDO's calculation results also showed good agreement with HIMM-WW measurements in terms of lateral dose distribution and integrated dose depth curve. Conclusion SPEEDO program can accurately and rapidly perform Monte Carlo dose calculations for carbon-ion therapy.
