Purpose:
This study evaluated the effects of an 8‑week liquid diets with different carbohydrate contents–64% energy in HINE E‑Gel (ST) and 50% energy in HINE E‑Gel LC (LC)–on glycemic control and nutritional status in a mouse model of type 2 diabetes mellitus (db/db mice). The objective was to determine whether reducing carbohydrate intake within the Dietary Reference Intakes for Japanese people improves glycemic control indices, addressing the evidence gap in regarding the long‑term safety and efficacy of low‑carbohydrate enteral nutrition in patients with diabetes.
Methods:
db/db mice (n=10 per group) and non‑diabetic db/m mice (n=4) as controls were fed ST, LC, or AIN‑93G diets ad libitum for 8 weeks. The diets primarily differed in carbohydrate content (64% in ST vs. 50% in LC). Blood glucose and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), plasma glucose and glycoalbumin, organ weights, and renal function markers were measured weekly or at 4 and 8 weeks. Histopathological examinations of the liver and kidneys were performed at 8 weeks.
Results:
At 8 weeks, the LC group showed significantly lower plasma glucose (P=0.0051) and glycoalbumin (P=0.0013) levels compared to the ST group, with a trend toward lower HbA1c (P=0.0514). Although body weight was significantly higher in the LC group (P=0.0038), there were no significant differences between the ST and LC groups in caloric intake, renal function, or histopathological findings.
Conclusion
Reducing carbohydrate intake to 50% of total energy within dietary guidelines may improve glycemic control in diabetic mice, suggesting the need for further long‑term evaluation for clinical applications.

6.Imaging features of Stafne bone defects on computed tomography: An assessment of 40 cases

Purpose:
This study was performed to assess and describe the imaging features of 40 cases of Stafne bone defects (SBDs) on computed tomographic (CT) examinations.
Materials and Methods:
This study collected data, including age and sex, from 40 patients with SBDs who underwent CT exams. The imaging features of the SBDs were assessed in terms of their location, average size, the relationship of their contour with the cortical plate of the lingual mandible, bone margins, degree of internal density, shape, topographic relationship between the defect and the mandibular edge, the distance from the SBD to the base of the mandible, and the Ariji classification (type I, II, and III).
Results:
The average age was 57.3 years (range, 28-78 years), and the patients were predominantly male (70%). In all cases (100%), the posterior unilateral lingual SBD variant was observed. Within the Ariji classification, type I was the most common (60%). Among the most frequently observed radiographic characteristics were thick sclerotic bone margin across the entire defect contour, completely hypointense internal content, an oval shape, and continuity with the mandibular base with discontinuity of the mandibular edge.
Conclusion
This study showed that posterior SBDs could present with an oval or rounded shape, complete hypodensity, and thick sclerotic margins. Likewise, SBDs could appear almost anywhere, with minor differences from the classic SBD appearance. It is fundamental for dental practitioners to know the imaging features of SBDs, since they are diagnosed primarily based on imaging.
7.A Workshop for Care Workers, Nurses and Pharmacists to Identify Problems Related to Cooperation and Propose Solutions to Ensure Appropriate Medication Assistance for NursingHome Residents

Objective: In order to ensure the safety of nursing home residents, it is very important to implement appropriate assistance to ensure compliance with necessary medication. The purpose of this study is to identify issues and to plan solutions for medication assistance.Design: We conducted a workshop involving care workers (CWs), nurses and pharmacists together.Methods: Using the KJ method, participants extracted problems related to medication assistance and planned solutions in a mixed group of CWs, nurses and pharmacists. Questionnaire surveys were conducted for the participants before, immediately after, and 3 months after the workshop.Results: A number of important and urgent issues related to medication assistance were identified. There were differences in the recognition patterns of the importance and urgency of the issues among the three categories of participants. In addition, many possible solutions were proposed. Among these solutions, 25% had been implemented by at least two participants. More than 75 % of participants felt that their awareness of the value of cooperation in medication assistance had been improved by participating in the workshop.Conclusion: These results suggest that a workshop with a group of CWs, nurses and pharmacists in one place is a useful approach for extracting problems and planning effective solutions related to cooperation in medication assistance.
