Objective:To explore the influence of deviation of the bolt in femoral neck system (FNS) on the short-term outcomes in young and middle-aged patients with displaced femoral neck fracture. Methods:A retrospective analysis was conducted of the 114 young and middle-aged patients with displaced femoral neck fracture who had been treated with FNS at Department of Orthopaedics, Suzhou Municipal Hospital from December 2019 to January 2023. Based on the postoperative measurements of the deviation of the bolt tip to the central axis of the femoral head and neck (W), the patients were divided into a central group (W≤20%) and a deviation group (W>20%). In the central group of 63 cases, there were 27 males and 36 females with a mean age of (46.4±8.0) years. In the deviation group of 51 cases, there were 20 males and 31 females with a mean age of (45.1±9.8) years. The 2 groups were compared in terms of weight-bearing time, fracture healing time, tip-apex distance, degree of femoral neck shortening, Harris Hip Score and EuroQol five-dimensional questionnaire-5L (EQ-5D-5L) utility value at the last follow-up, as well as complications and revision surgeries. Results:There was no statistically significant difference in the preoperative general information, auxiliary reduction or quality of fracture reduction between the 2 groups, showing comparability between groups ( P>0.05). There was no significant difference in the partial weight-bearing time between the 2 groups ( P>0.05). In the central group, the full weight-bearing time [15.0 (14.0, 16.0) weeks] and fracture healing time [14.0 (12.0, 15.0) weeks] were significantly shorter than those in the deviation group [16.0 (15.0, 19.0) weeks; 15.0 (13.0, 17.0) weeks], the tip-apex distance [(21.4±3.4) mm] was significantly shorter than that in the deviation group [(23.5±2.7) mm], the Harris Hip Score [(90.6±6.1) points] and EQ-5D-5L utility value [0.9 (0.8, 0.9)] at the last follow-up were significantly higher than those in the deviation group [(87.7±6.2) points; 0.9 (0.8, 0.9)], and the incidences of moderate and severe femoral neck shortening [25.4% (16/63)], avascular necrosis of the femoral head [0 (0/63)] and revision surgery [0 (0/63)] were significantly lower than those in the deviation group [66.7% (34/51), 7.8% (4/51), 9.8% (5/51)] (all P< 0.05). Conclusion:A closer positioning of the FNS bolt to the central axis of the femoral head and neck favors satisfactory short-term outcomes and a lower revision surgery rate in young and middle-aged patients with displaced femoral neck fracture.

The bionic optic nerve can mimic human visual physiology and is a future treatment for visual disorders. Photosynaptic devices could respond to light stimuli and mimic normal optic nerve function. By modifying (Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythio-phene):poly (styrenesulfonate)) active layers with all-inorganic perovskite quantum dots, with an aqueous solution as the dielectric layer in this paper, we developed a photosynaptic device based on an organic electrochemical transistor (OECT). The optical switching response time of OECT was 3.7 s. To improve the optical response of the device, a 365 nm, 300 mW·cm -2 UV light source was used. Basic synaptic behaviors such as postsynaptic currents (0.225 mA) at a light pulse duration of 4 s and double pulse facilitation at a light pulse duration of 1 s and pulse interval of 1 s were simulated. By changing the way light stimulates, for example, by adjusting the intensity of the light pulses from 180 to 540 mW·cm -2, the duration from 1 to 20 s, and the number of light pulses from 1 to 20, the postsynaptic currents were increased by 0.350 mA, 0.420 mA, and 0.466 mA, respectively. As such, we realized the effective shift from short-term synaptic plasticity (100 s recovery of initial value) to long-term synaptic plasticity (84.3% of 250 s decay maximum). This optical synapse has a high potential for simulating the human optic nerve.

Journal of Medical Biomechanics 2019;34(1):E021-E026
Objective To investigate the mechanical behavior of bovine pericardium with different orientations after compression and evaluate its effects on the duration of transcatheter aortic valve. Methods According to the fiber directions, the pericardial strips were divided into 12 groups of transverse, longitudinal and oblique pericardial strips, and each group included 3 strips of pericardium. One strip maintained the original state, and the other two strips were under 12.5 N and 25 N compression, respectively for 1 h. The mechanical properties of compressed samples were tested and analyzed subsequently in uniaxial tension test. Results The samples with different orientations showed obvious anisotropy before and after compression. The secant modulus, elastic modulus and ultimate tensile strength of the longitudinal pericardium were generally greater than those of the oblique pericardium, while the oblique pericardium was larger than the transverse pericardium. For longitudinal and oblique bovine pericardium under 25 N compression, the average tensile strength ratio was 0.92 and 0.87, respectively, and the ratio of tensile strength before and after compression had a significant difference (P<0.05). The average tensile strength ratio of transverse bovine pericardium after 25 N compression was 0.97, and there was no significant difference in the ratio of tensile strength before and after compression (P>0.05). Conclusions The compressive damage of the pericardia with different fiber orientations was very small under low stresses at transitory time. For design and production of transcatheter aortic valves, the orientations of the pericardium and the changes of strength after compression should be taken into consideration.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2019;36(5):827-833
In the present study, the performance of the liquid nitrogen frozen and thinned bovine pericardium was studied and compared with the porcine pericardium. The microstructure and mechanical properties of the bovine pericardium were observed and tested by hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining and tensile test respectively. In all conditions, porcine pericardium was selected as a control group. The results showed that there was little difference in the performance of bovine pericardium after being frozen by liquid nitrogen. The secant modulus and ultimate strength of the thinned bovine pericardium were similar to those of porcine pericardium, however, the elastic modulus was a little higher than porcine pericardium. The study suggested that the performance of the thinned bovine pericardium was similar to those of porcine pericardium. It was easy for the thinned bovine pericardium to obtain a relatively ideal thickness and expected performance, therefore, the thinned bovine pericardium can be used as the materials of transcatheter aortic valve leaflets.

Cancer Research and Clinic 2017;29(8):567-570
Alveolar soft part sarcoma (ASPS) is a kind of extremely rare malignant soft tissue sarcoma, which was first discovered and defined by American scholars in 1952. Its main manifestation is painless and slow growth mass, and distant metastasis often occurs in lung, bone, brain, liver with poor prognosis. In recent years, with the accumulation of the number of cases and the development of related technology, the diagnosis and treatment of ASPS have been improved greatly. However, the primary intracranial ASPS is still rare, this paper reviews the progress of primary intracranial ASPS, in order to provide help for its clinical diagnosis and treatment.
