Unhealthy lifestyles remain prevalent among primary and secondary students in NIPRCES areas of China. These findings underscore the need to strengthen policy implementation for promoting healthy lifestyles among primary and secondary school students.
3.Elevated blood pressure and its association with dietary patterns among Chinese children and adolescents aged 7-17 years
Chinese Journal of School Health 2025;46(6):863-867
Objective:
To understand the prevalence of elevated blood pressure and its association with dietary patterns in children and adolescents in China, providing evidence for developing dietary intervention of hypertension in children and adolescents.
Methods:
Data were derived from the China Children s Nutrition and Health System Survey and Application Project(2019-2021). A stratified cluster random sampling method was used to include 7 933 participants from 28 survey sites in seven major regions of Northeast, North, Northwest, East, Central, South and Southwest China. Multivariate Logistic regression models were used to analyze associations between demographic characteristics, nutritional status and elevated blood pressure. Exploratory factor analysis identified dietary patterns, which were divided into three quartile groups (T3, T2, T1) based on factor scores (compliance for dietary pattern) from high to low, and multivariate Logistic regression model assessed the correlation between elevated blood pressure and dietary patterns.
Results:
The prevalence of elevated blood pressure was 15.4% among Chinese children aged 7-17 years. Significant differences were observed across nutritional status (reference: underweight; normal weight: OR =1.57; overweight: OR = 2.61 ; obesity: OR =3.85), urban/rural residence (reference: rural; urban: OR =0.86), and paternal education (reference: junior high school and below; bachelor degree or above: OR =0.68) ( P <0.05). The detection rates of high blood pressure in T3 group children and adolescents with four dietary patterns (staple food, animal based food, snacks, vegetables and fruits) were 15.7%, 14.6%, 16.8%, and 15.8%, respectively. After adjusting for residence, paternal education, and nutritional status, the "snack dietary pattern" (mainly candy, sugar sweetened beverages, and processed snacks) showed positive associations with elevated blood pressure in T2 ( OR =1.21) and T3 ( OR =1.19) tertiles ( P <0.05).
Conclusions
The snack dietary pattern is a related factor for elevated blood pressure in children and adolescents. Restricting unhealthy snack intake may promote cardiovascular health.

OBJECTIVE To systematically evaluate the efficacy and safety of novel oral anticoagulants (NOAC) in the treatment of cancer-related venous thromboembolism (VTE) patients. METHODS Retrieved from PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, Web of Science, CNKI, and Wanfang database from the establishment of each database to August, 2023, randomized controlled trials (RCTs) about the efficacy of low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH, control group) versus NOAC (trial group) in the treatment of cancer-related VTE patients were collected. After extracting the data from included clinical studies, meta-analysis was performed by using RevMan 5.0 statistical software. RESULTS A total of 7 RCTs were included, with a total of 3 790 patients. Compared with the control group, the recurrence rate of VTE in the trial group was significantly reduced (RR=0.65, 95%CI 0.51-0.82, P=0.000 4), while the incidence of major bleeding was slightly higher than in the control group, but the difference was not statistically significant (RR=1.13, 95%CI 0.83-1.53, P=0.45). The incidence of clinically relevant non-major bleeding (RR=1.69, 95%CI 1.34-2.13, P<0.000 01) and gastrointestinal bleeding (RR=1.96, 95%CI 1.15-3.34, P=0.01) in the trial group was significantly higher than in the control group. There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of intracranial hemorrhage, all-cause mortality, and fatal pulmonary embolism between 2 groups (P>0.05). CONCLUSIONS For cancer-related VTE patients, NOAC is superior to LMWH in preventing venous thrombosis recurrence, and is not inferior to LMWH in terms of major bleeding, intracranial hemorrhage, all-cause mortality, and fatal pulmonary embolism.

AIM:To investigate the mechanism by which N6-methyladenosine(m6A)methylase methyltrans-ferase-like protein 3(METTL3)regulates the differentiation of human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)into adipocytes in vitro.METHODS:Lentiviral vectors of METTL3,AKT serine/threonine kinase 1(AKT1),peroxisome pro-liferator-activated receptor γ(PPARγ)and YTH m6A RNA binding protein F2(YTHDF2)were constructed to package lentiviral particles and used to infect MSCs.A human bone MSC adipogenic differentiation kit was used to induce the MSCs into adipocytes.Additionally, the adipocytes were stained by oil red O.The recombinant vector of METTL3 mutant was constructed using molecular cloning to confirm the regulatory effect of the key site of m6A in METTL3 on the target genes.Actinomycin D was applied to MSCs with overexpression of YTHDF2 to evaluate the effect of YTHDF2 recognition on the mRNA and protein expression of AKT1.The RNA pull-down assay combined with silver staining and Western blot were used to detect the binding of potentially methylated fragments to recognized proteins.RESULTS:METTL3 inhibited the adipogenesis of MSCs in an AKT1/PPARγ-dependent manner, and mediated the protein expression of AKT1 in an m6A-YTHDF2-dependent manner.YTHDF2 recognized and bound to coding sequence(CDS)of m6A-AKT1,and reduced its expression, which inhibited the adipogenesis of MSCs.CONCLUSION:The m6A methylase METTL3 regulates the adipo-genic differentiation of human bone marrow MSCs through YTHDF2/AKT1/PPARγ,providing a theoretical basis for the identification of new targets for acute myeloid leukemia treatment from the perspective of tumor microenvironment.

Progress in Biochemistry and Biophysics 2024;51(9):2000-2015
Given the constraints imposed by the “14-day ethics” rule, numerous critical events occurring between the second and fourth weeks of embryonic development remain poorly understood. This underscores the necessity of a detailed understanding of embryonic development and regulation during this period, which is indispensable for preventing pregnancy failure, treating birth defects, and promoting human reproductive health.Rodents, characterized by their small size, rapid growth, strong reproductive capacity, and fully sequenced genomes, are widely used as crucial models for studying embryonic development. However, the substantial physiological differences between rodents and primates due to evolutionary divergence make it challenging to directly apply findings from rodent studies to primates. Besides, primates, our closest relatives in terms of evolutionary phylogenetics and physiological characteristics, share more than 95% genetic homology with humans, underscoring the urgent need for primate research. Furthermore, early-stage embryonic cells are both scarce and diverse, making their regulatory mechanisms and developmental pathways typically elucidated through single-cell sequencing. For instance, three significant articles published in Science in 2018 mapped the complete atlas of organ and tissue development from fertilization and captured dynamic gene expression profiles in zebrafish and frogs through single-cell transcriptomics. Unfortunately, relying solely on single-cell omics analysis falls short in effectively and comprehensively deciphering the intricate cellular network information. Single-cell multi-omics empower researchers to systematically decode cell heterogeneity and developmental trajectories at the individual cell level by combining transcriptomics, epigenomics, proteomics, and metabolomics analyses. These emerging technologies play a significant role in life sciences, enabling the elucidation of critical early primate embryonic development events from a multi-dimensional perspective, including zygotic genome activation (ZGA), X-chromosome dosage compensation, origins of primordial germ cells (PGCs), mechanisms of cell fate determination, and pivotal events in gastrulation and early organogenesis. This article chronicles the advancement of pivotal technologies, from single-cell histology to multi-omics, beginning with the single-cell transcriptome and culminating in a comprehensive analysis according to the central dogma of molecular biology. It highlights the transition from a singular to a holistic perspective in cellular analysis and reviews the application of multi-omics techniques in unveiling early primate embryonic development. Finally, it delves into the application of multi-omics technologies in enhancing our understanding of early primate embryonic development and explores future possibilities, directions, and challenges in this rapidly evolving field. In doing so, it emphasizes the critical role of interdisciplinary approaches, combining insights from genetics, molecular biology, and bioinformatics to foster innovations in reproductive medicine and developmental biology. The integration of such technologies offers the promise of breakthroughs in understanding complex biological processes, potentially leading to novel therapeutic strategies and advancements in reproductive health and medicine.
