Compared to traditional suturing, lung stapling using automatic staplers offers advantages such as smaller trauma, faster wound healing, ease of operation, and lower complication rates, making it widely used in clinical practice. However, there are significant differences in bronchial tissue thickness at different anatomical locations, and the market is flooded with various types of staplers. Currently, there is a lack of recommended stapling schemes for bronchial staplers at different anatomical locations. This article reviews the development and application of automatic staplers and summarizes some types of staplers that are currently used in clinical practice, with the aim of promoting the formation of individualized stapler selection protocols for minimally invasive thoracic surgery based on the Chinese population.

ObjectiveTo reveal the correlation of Rehmannia glutinosa-soil feedback process with the formation of its continuous cropping obstacles through the identification of the root exudates of R. glutinosa and analysis of the specific rhizomicrobes recruited by the root exudate. MethodThe root exudates of R. glutinosa seedlings germinated under sterilized condition and those enriched in the rhizosphere of R. glutinosa cultivated in the field were collected and analyzed using the ultra-performance liquid chromatography quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry(UPLC-Q-TOF-MS). The highly abundant compounds identified in the root exudates were added into blank soil, and the soil microbial community was profiled using Illumina Miseq sequencing. The bacterial and fungal functions were predicted by PICRUSt and FUNGuild, respectively. ResultThe identification results showed that seven phenylethanoid glycosides were found in R. glutinosa root exudates, and acteoside possessed the highest abundance. In the soil enriched with acteoside, the bacterial genera such as Agromyces, Pseudomonas, Lysobacter, Sphingobium, Pseudoxanthomonas and Sphingomonas were enriched. For the fungi, the genera Neocosmospora, Plectosphaerella and Dactylonectria, and the species such as Neocosmospora rubicola, Plectosphaerella cucumerina, Dactylonectria alcacerensis and Fusarium solani showed higher abundance. The functional analysis indicated the above-mentioned bacterial genera may realize rapid proliferation by utilizing, biodegrading and transforming phenylethanoid glycosides, and some potential fungal pathogens were colonized. ConclusionThe R. glutinsoa-soil feedbacks were likely generated by the phenylethanoid glycosides in the root exudates together with the specific rhizomicrobes. The investigations of R. glutinsoa-soil feedbacks under continuous cropping system are critical to the further understanding of the underlying mechanisms related to its continuous cropping obstacles.

With increasing age, more and more patients with posterior chamber intraocular lens (ICL) implantation are facing the threat of cataracts to their visual acuity. When examining the eyes of cataract patients after ICL surgery, attention should be paid to whether the density of corneal endothelial cells is greater than 2 000 cells/mm 2, the state of the anterior chamber angle, and whether there are fundus abnormalities such as retinal detachment and choroidal neovascularization. When conducting eye biometry measurement, attention should be paid to the measurement starting and ending lines of anterior chamber depth and lens thickness. If patients undergo ICL combined with corneal refractive surgery, they should be examined with two or more devices to obtain corneal refractive power according to the examination requirements after corneal laser vision correction. When selecting the type of intraocular lens, consideration should be given to the histological characteristics of high myopia.Compared to C- and L- loops, plate-haptic is relatively more stable in patients with high myopia accompanied by large capsules and larger diameters of continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis.Kane, Barrett Universal Ⅱ, Olsen, Hill-RBF formulas for calculating the refractive power of intraocular lenses are more accurate in people with long axial length. It is recommended to perform ICL removal simultaneously with phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation, preferably with a surgical incision greater than 2.6 mm.Femtosecond laser assisted cataract extraction surgery, although superior to traditional phacoemulsification in reducing corneal endothelial cell loss, reducing corneal edema, and high-quality capsulorhexis, can cause incomplete capsulorhexis and fragmentation due to the cavitation bubbles, manual adjustment of location, and the impact of lower vault. It is recommended to use it with caution.Ophthalmologists should fully understand and pay attention to the characteristics and difficulties of cataract surgery after ICL surgery, communicate fully with patients, and make personalized surgery to achieve better visual outcomes.

Objective:To obtain hepatitis B virus capsid-like particles (CLPs) displaying B-cell linear epitopes of SARS-CoV-2 spike protein and evaluate their immunogenicity. Methods:Four recombinant plasmids expressing fusion proteins (M1-HBc, S1-57-HBc, S14P5-HBc and S21P2-HBc) were constructed by separately replacing codon of alanine at position 80 of hepatitis B virus core protein (HBc) with four genes coding for four B-cell linear epitopes (M1, S1-57, S14P5 and S21P2). These four recombinant proteins were expressed in E. coli BL21 Star (DE3) strains. The expression products were identified using SDS-PAGE, Western blot and native agarose gel electrophoresis (NAGE). CLPs were purified by sucrose density gradient ultracentrifugation, verified for antigenicity by Western blot and used to immunize BALB/c mice. Serum antibody titers were detected by ELISA. Results:The recombinant fusion proteins M1-HBc and S1-57-HBc self-assembled into M1-CLP and S1-57-CLP. The titer of antibody against S1-57 polypeptide in S1-57-CLP-immunized mouse serum approached 1∶1 000 000.Conclusions:Hepatitis B virus CLPs displaying SARS-CoV-2 M1 or S1-57 linear epitopes are successfully expressed in a prokaryotic system and purified. S1-57-CLP has good immunogenicity. This study provides a new idea for the development of novel diagnostic reagents and vaccines for SARS-CoV-2.

The incidence of osteoporotic thoracolumbar vertebral fracture (OTLVF) in the elderly is gradually increasing. The kyphotic deformity caused by various factors has become an important characteristic of OTLVF and has received increasing attention. Its clinical manifestations include pain, delayed nerve damage, sagittal imbalance, etc. Currently, the definition and diagnosis of OTLVF with kyphotic deformity in the elderly are still unclear. Although there are many treatment options, they are controversial. Existing guidelines or consensuses pay little attention to this type of fracture with kyphotic deformity. To this end, the Lumbar Education Working Group of the Spine Branch of the Chinese Medicine Education Association and Editorial Committee of Chinese Journal of Trauma organized the experts in the relevant fields to jointly develop Clinical guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of osteoporotic thoracolumbar vertebral fractures with kyphotic deformity in the elderly ( version 2024), based on evidence-based medical advancements and the principles of scientificity, practicality, and advanced nature, which provided 18 recommendations to standardize the clinical diagnosis and treatment.

Depsides and depsidones have attracted attention for biosynthetic studies due to their broad biological activities and structural diversity. Previous structure‒activity relationships indicated that triple halogenated depsidones display the best anti-pathogenic activity. However, the gene cluster and the tailoring steps responsible for halogenated depsidone nornidulin ( 3) remain enigmatic. In this study, we disclosed the complete biosynthetic pathway of the halogenated depsidone through in vivo gene disruption, heterologous expression and in vitro biochemical experiments. We demonstrated an unusual depside skeleton biosynthesis process mediated by both highly-reducing polyketide synthase and non-reducing polyketide synthase, which is distinct from the common depside skeleton biosynthesis. This skeleton was subsequently modified by two in-cluster enzymes DepG and DepF for the ether bond formation and decarboxylation, respectively. In addition, the decarboxylase DepF exhibited substrate promiscuity for different scaffold substrates. Finally, and interestingly, we discovered a halogenase encoded remotely from the biosynthetic gene cluster, which catalyzes triple-halogenation to produce the active end product nornidulin ( 3). These discoveries provide new insights for further understanding the biosynthesis of depsidones and their derivatives.
