Objective To analyze the cognitive function and sleep quality of the elderly in Shanghai community, and explore the related influencing factors. Methods A stratified cluster random sampling method was used to select 8 community health centers in Shanghai for a questionnaire survey, including 3 677 elderly individuals who completed the “Comprehensive Health Status Survey of Elderly Residents in Shanghai” from September 2023 to November 2023. Basic information of the elderly was collected, including age, gender, education level, smoking, drinking, mahjong playing behavior, and exercise habits. The Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) was used to assess the sleep quality of the elderly, subjective cognitive decline (SCD) self-assessment questionnaire and Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) were used to evaluate cognitive function, while the Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA) and patient health questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) were used to assess anxiety and depression levels, and the mini nutritional assessment (MNA) was used to evaluate nutritional status. According to the MMSE scores, the elderly were divided into three groups: no cognitive impairment (MMSE ≥ 27), mild cognitive impairment (MMSE 21-26), and moderate to severe cognitive impairment (MMSE ≤ 20). The general data, lifestyle habits, and scale scores of the three groups were compared. Ordered logistic regression was used to analyze the influencing factors of sleep quality. Results There were statistically significant differences in age, gender, waist circumference, body mass index (BMI), education level, pet ownership, smoking, drinking, mahjong playing behavior, exercise habits, and scale scores among the three groups (P<0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that age, waist circumference, gender, drinking habits, mahjong playing behavior, and chronic comorbidities are influencing factors for the PSQI grading in the elderly (P<0.05). The MMSE score (OR=1.037, P=0.001), SCD score (OR=1.123, P<0.001), HAMA score (OR=1.183, P<0.001), PHQ-9 score (OR=1.249, P<0.001) are positive influencing factors for PSQI grading, while the MNA score is a negative influencing factor (OR=0.960, P=0.037). Conclusions Advanced age, female gender, low education level, no pet ownership, no mahjong playing behavior, no exercise habits, and poor sleep quality are risk factors for cognitive impairment in the elderly. Advanced age, female gender, no mahjong playing behavior and poor nutritional status are influencing factors for poor sleep quality in the elderly, and severe comorbidities, anxiety, depression, and subjective decline in cognitive function all affect sleep quality.

Objective To investigate the optimal administration combination of β-aminopropionitrile (BAPN) and Angiotensin Ⅱ (Ang-Ⅱ) in the establishment of SD rat aortic dissection (AD) model and the related complications. Methods Forty-two three-week-old male SD rats were randomly divided into 7 groups: a group A (0.25% BAPN), a group B (0.40% BAPN), a group C (0.80% BAPN), a group D [1 g/(kg·d) BAPN], a group E [1 g/(kg·d) BAPN+ 1 μg/(kg·min) saline], a group F [1 g/(kg·d) BAPN+1 μg/(kg·min) Ang-Ⅱ] and a group G (control group). There were 6 rats in each group. The intervention period was 4 weeks (groups E and F were 4 weeks+5 days). Rats were dissected immediately if they died during the experiment. After the intervention, the surviving rats were sacrificed by pentobarbital sodium, and the whole aorta was separated and retained. Hematoxylin-eosin staining was used to observe the changes of aorta from the pathological morphology. Results There was no statistical difference in the survival rate among the groups after 4 weeks of BAPN intervention (P>0.05). After 5 days of mini-osmotic pumps implantation, the survival rate of rats was higher in the group E than that in the group F (P=0.008), and the incidence of AD in the group E was lower than that in the group F (P=0.001). BAPN could affect the food and water intake of rats. After BAPN intervention for 4 weeks, the body weight of rats in the group G was higher than those in the intervention groups (P<0.05). BAPN combined with Ang-Ⅱ could make the aortic intima thick, elastic fiber breakage, arrangement disorder, and inflammatory cell infiltration in rats, which conformed to the pathological and morphological changes of AD. BAPN could also affect mental state and gastrointestinal tract. Conclusion The combination of BAPN [1 g/(kg·d)] and Ang-Ⅱ [1 μg/(kg·min)] can stably establish AD model in rats, which will provide a stable carrier for further study of the pathogenesis and therapeutic targets of AD. However, the complications in this process are an unstable factor. How to balance the influence of BAPN on other tissues and organs in the process of AD model establishment remains to be further studied.

ObjectiveTo explore the impact of overtime work on work-related musculoskeletal disorders in male employees in the automobile manufacturing industry. Methods A total of 1 731 male employees with more than one year of working experience from an automobile manufacturing industry were selected as the research subjects using judgment sampling method. The Musculoskeletal Disorder Questionnaire was used to investigate the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorder. Employees were divided into control group and overtime group, and a 1∶1 matching was performed using propensity score matching method, and 573 pairs were successfully matched. The prevalence of WMSDs in various body parts was compared between the two groups. Results The overtime working rate of the research subjects was 34.2%, and the prevalence of WMSDs was 57.1%. Overtime work increased the risk of WMSDs in the neck, shoulders, upper back, lower back, ankle/feet, and overall body of the workers (all P<0.05), with the odd ratio and 95% confidence interval of 1.43 (1.10-1.85), 1.38 (1.06-1.80), 1.42 (1.07-1.89), 1.28 (1.01-1.62), 1.37 (1.01-1.87), and 1.49 (1.17-1.89), respectively. However, there was no association between overtime work and the risk of WMSDs in the elbows, hands/wrists, hips, and knees of the subjects (all P>0.05). Conclusion Overtime work increases the risk of WMSDs in the neck, shoulders, upper back, lower back, ankles/feet, and overall body of male employees in the automobile manufacturing industry. Enterprises should improve labor organization, reduce overtime work, and protect the health of workers.

Chinese Journal of Health Management 2024;18(3):199-203
Objective:To analyze the current status of physical composition in medical workers and the evaluation effects of each indicator on nutritional status. Methods:It was a cross-sectional study. A total of 313 medical workers from one hospital in Beijing were recruited from May 21st to June 22nd in 2021 for body composition measurement. Variance analysis was used to compare the age and gender distribution differences in total body fat, fat-free body weight, body fat percentage, skeletal muscle, protein, water, mineral, and basal metabolic rate indicators among the medical workers. Protein content, body fat percentage, and body mass index (BMI) were used to evaluate the nutritional status of medical workers, and the evaluation effects were analyzed too. Results:Of the 313 medical workers included in this study, there were 221 females and 92 males. In females, total body fat, fat-free body weight, skeletal muscle mass, and basal metabolic rate were all positively correlated with age ( F=19.823, 6.745, 6.561, 6.707) (all P<0.001). There was no significant differences in body composition indicators among male participants of different age groups (all P>0.05). The total body fat in female medical workers was significantly higher than that in males (17.58 kg vs 17.08 kg). Total water, protein, minerals, fat-free body weight, skeletal muscle mass, and basal metabolic rate were all significantly lower in female medical workers when compared with those in males [30.40 kg vs 41.78 kg, 8.07 kg vs 11.26 kg, 2.96 kg vs 3.88 kg, 41.43 kg vs 56.92 kg, 22.37 kg vs 31.98 kg, 1 264.86 kcal (1 kcal=4.184 kJ) vs 1 599.39 kcal] (all P<0.05). Among the medical workers, 190 cases (60.7%) had normal protein levels, 103 cases (32.9%) had protein deficiencies, and 20 cases (6.3%) had protein levels exceeding the standard. Additionally, 110 cases (35.1%) had normal body fat ratios, 193 cases (61.6%) had excessive body fat ratios, and 10 cases (3.2%) had insufficient body fat ratios. Concerning body mass index (BMI), 198 cases (63.2%) had normal BMI. Among them, 145 cases (73.2%) had normal body fat ratios, 53 cases (26.7%) had excessive body fat ratios, 108 cases (54.5%) had normal protein levels, 89 cases (44.9%) had insufficient protein levels, and 1 case (0.5%) had excessive protein levels. Furthermore, 103 cases (32.9%) had excessive BMI, with 20 cases (19.4%) having normal body fat ratios indicating the muscle/bone strength type, and 83 cases (80.6%) having normal protein levels indicating the muscular type. Lastly, 12 cases (3.8%) had insufficient BMI, including 6 cases (50.0%) with normal body fat ratios. Conclusion:There are significant gender differences in body composition distribution among healthcare workers. In females, total body fat, lean body mass, skeletal muscle, and basal metabolic rate are all correlated with age. Evaluating individual nutrition status based solely on BMI would underestimate the obesity rate. Individuals with low or high protein/muscle content should not be assessed using BMI.
