1.The diagnostic value of inflammation-related genes in bronchopulmonary dysplasia

This study aims to explore the diagnostic value of inflammation-related genes in peripheral blood mononuclear cells in bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). By using bioinformatics analysis, three datasets including GSE32472, GSE125873, and GSE220135, which contain whole-genome expression profile data of 251 neonates, were included. The GSE32472 dataset was used as a training dataset to detect differentially expressed genes between non-BPD and BPD neonates in peripheral blood mononuclear cells. The gene enrichment analysis (GSEA) was used to detect the pathway enrichment of up-regulated genes in BPD newborns. The main regulatory factors analysis (MRA) algorithm was used to filter the main regulatory genes in the inflammation-related pathway (GO:0006954). After obtaining the main regulatory genes, the expression of the main regulatory genes in the GSE32472, GSE125873, and GSE220135 datasets was detected. Through the logistic regression model, risk scoring was conducted for neonates, and the risk scores of non-BPD and BPD neonates were compared. Lastly, the classification performance of the model was evaluated using the area under the curve (AUC). The results showed that compared with non-BPD neonates, there were 486 up-regulated genes and 433 down-regulated genes in the peripheral blood mononuclear cells of BPD neonates. The inflammation-related pathway was highly enriched in the up-regulated genes. Ultimately, phospholipase C beta 1 (PLCB1), nidogen 1 (NID1), serum response factor binding protein 1 (SRFBP1), centrosomal protein 72 (CEP72), excision repair cross complementation group 6 like (ERCC6L), and peptidylprolyl isomerase like 1 (PPIL1) were identified as the main regulatory genes. The prediction model′s calculation formula for risk score was PLCB1×0.26+NID1×0.97+SRFBP1×1.58+CEP72×(-0.36)+ERCC6L×2.14+PPIL1×0.67. The AUCs in the GSE32472 test dataset, GSE125873 dataset, and GSE220135 dataset were 0.88, 0.86, and 0.89, respectively. This prediction model could distinguish between non-BPD and BPD neonates. In conclusion, the prediction model based on inflammation-related pathway genes has a certain diagnostic value for BPD.

3.The Effect of Intense Pulsed Light Treatment for Chronic Hordeolum.

OBJECTIVE:
To evaluate the effect of intense pulsed light (IPL) in the treatment of chronic hordeolum.
METHODS:
Patients with chronic hordeolum who underwent IPL treatment were enrolled in this study. According to the severity of hordeolum, the patients were treated with IPL 3 to 5 times. Patients' satisfaction and visual analog scale scores for ocular discomfort symptoms before and after treatment were collected. The number, congestion, long diameter, short diameter and area of nodules were also recorded and measured. Finally, eyelid margin signs, meibum quality, meibomian gland expressibility, meibomian gland dropout, tear meniscus height, and corneal fluorescein staining were scored.
RESULTS:
20 patients were enrolled in this study. The eyelid margins were congestive and swollen, with blunt rounding or irregularity. The meibum was cloudy or toothpaste-like. The meibomian gland expressibility, meibomian gland dropout and tear meniscus height were reduced. The cornea showed scattered fluorescein staining. After treatment, score of visual analog scale, congestion and size of nodules were significantly reduced. Eyelid margin signs, meibum quality, meibomian gland expressibility, tear meniscus height and corneal fluorescein staining scores were improved. Meibomian gland dropout had no significant change. No side effects occurred during treatment.
CONCLUSIONS
IPL is beneficial for the treatment of chronic hordeolum.

4.Chemical analysis of classical prescription Qianghuo Shengshi Standard Decoction by UHPLC-Q Exactive Orbitrap MS.

A UHPLC-Q Exactive Orbitrap MS method was used to analyze the chemical constituents of the classical prescription Qianghuo Shengshi Standard Decoction(QHSS). UHPL conditions were as follows: Waters~(TM) UPLC~(TM) HSS T3 C_(18) column(2.1 mm×100 mm, 1.7 μm) and mobile phase of acetonitrile-0.1% formic acid aqueous solution. Mass spectrometry data of QHSS, each herb extract, and negative sample were collected in both positive and negative ion modes. The chemical constituents of QHSS were identified or tentatively identified based on the accurate molecular weight, retention time, MS fragmentation, comparison with reference substances, and literature reports. A total of 141 compounds were identified, including 18 amino acids, oligosaccharides, oligopeptides, and their derivatives, 19 phenolic acids, 44 coumarins, 18 flavonoids and chromones, 13 saponins, 17 phthalides, and 12 other components. This study comprehensively characterized the chemical constituents of QHSS, laying an experimental basis for the in-depth research on the material basis and quality control of QHSS.

OBJECTIVES:
To investigate the incidence of extrauterine growth retardation (EUGR) and its risk factors in very preterm infants (VPIs) during hospitalization in China.
METHODS:
A prospective multicenter study was performed on the medical data of 2 514 VPIs who were hospitalized in the department of neonatology in 28 hospitals from 7 areas of China between September 2019 and December 2020. According to the presence or absence of EUGR based on the evaluation of body weight at the corrected gestational age of 36 weeks or at discharge, the VPIs were classified to two groups: EUGR group (n=1 189) and non-EUGR (n=1 325). The clinical features were compared between the two groups, and the incidence of EUGR and risk factors for EUGR were examined.
RESULTS:
The incidence of EUGR was 47.30% (1 189/2 514) evaluated by weight. The multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that higher weight growth velocity after regaining birth weight and higher cumulative calorie intake during the first week of hospitalization were protective factors against EUGR (P<0.05), while small-for-gestational-age birth, prolonged time to the initiation of total enteral feeding, prolonged cumulative fasting time, lower breast milk intake before starting human milk fortifiers, prolonged time to the initiation of full fortified feeding, and moderate-to-severe bronchopulmonary dysplasia were risk factors for EUGR (P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONS
It is crucial to reduce the incidence of EUGR by achieving total enteral feeding as early as possible, strengthening breastfeeding, increasing calorie intake in the first week after birth, improving the velocity of weight gain, and preventing moderate-severe bronchopulmonary dysplasia in VPIs.

6.Characteristics of the Distance and Space Required for Knife Slashing Using a Motion Capture System.

OBJECTIVES:
To investigate the relationship between the perpetrator's sex, victim's position and slashing location as well as anthropometric parameters on distance and space required for slashing, to provide the theoretical basis for the judgment of whether the crime scene was consistent with the criminal activity space.
METHODS:
The kinematics data of 12 male and 12 female subjects slashing the neck of standing and supine mannequins as well as the chest of the standing mannequins with a kitchen knife were obtained by using a 3D motion capture system. The relationship between the perpetrator's sex-victim's position, the perpetrator's sex-slashing location, and anthropometric parameters and the distance and space required for the slashing were analyzed by two-factor repeated measures ANOVA and Pearson correlation analysis respectively.
RESULTS:
Compared with slashing the neck of supine mannequins, the distance (L) and normalized L (l) of slashing the neck of standing mannequins were greater, while vertical distance (LVR) and normalized LVR (lVR) of the knife side were smaller. Compared with slashing the neck of standing mannequins, the L and l slashing the chest of standing mannequins were greater, while LVR and lVR were smaller. Horizontal distance (LHR) and normalized LHR (lHR) of the knife side in males were greater than that in females. Height and arm length were positively correlated with L, LHR, and LVR when striking the standing mannequins.
CONCLUSIONS
When slashing the neck of supine or standing victims, the slashing distance is shorter and the slashing height is greater. Furthermore, the distance and space required for slashing are correlate with anthropometric parameters.

7.Effect of electroacupuncture on serum melatonin and dopamine in aged insomnia.

OBJECTIVE:
To observe the clinical effect of electroacupuncture (EA) on aged insomnia, and explore its possible mechanism.
METHODS:
A total of 60 patients with aged insomnia were randomly divided into an EA group (30 cases) and a sham EA group (30 cases, 1 case dropped off). The patients in the EA group were treated with acupuncture at Baihui (GV 20), Yintang (GV 29), Shenmen (HT 7), Sanyinjiao (SP 6), Xinshu (BL 15) and Shenshu (BL 23), and EA was used at Baihui (GV 20) and Yintang (GV 29), with intermittent wave, 2 Hz in frequency. In the sham EA group, the acupoints and the EA connection acupoints were the same as those in the EA group, 2-3 mm in depth, but no current was connected. The intervention was given 30 min each time, once every other day, 3 times a week for 4 weeks in the both groups. Before and after treatment, the Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) and Montreal cognitive assessment (MoCA) scale were used to assess sleep quality and cognitive function, and serum melatonin (MT) and dopamine (DA) levels were detected.
RESULTS:
After treatment, the total score and sub-item scores of PSQI in the EA group were lower than those before treatment (
CONCLUSION
Electroacupuncture can improve sleep quality and cognitive function in aged insomnia patients, and its mechanism may be related to regulating serum MT and DA levels.

In the past 37 years, human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) has undergone various major transmission routes in China, with the world most complex co-circulating HIV-1 subtypes, even the prevalence is still low. In response to the first epidemic outbreak of HIV in injecting drug users and the second one by illegal commercial blood collection, China issued the Anti-Drug Law and launched the Blood Donation Act and nationwide nucleic acid testing, which has avoided 98,232 to 211,200 estimated infections and almost ended the blood product-related infection. China has been providing free antiretroviral therapy (ART) since 2003, which covered >80% of the identified patients and achieved a viral suppression rate of 91%. To bend the curve of increasing the disease burden of HIV and finally end the epidemic, China should consider constraining HIV spread through sexual transmission, narrowing the gaps in identifying HIV cases, and the long-term effectiveness and safety of ART in the future.

9.Prediction of Disintegration Time of Traditional Chinese Medicine Tablets Based on Generalized Regression Neural Network

Objective:This paper constructs a generalized regression neural network (GRNN) model to predict the disintegration time of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) tablets. Method:Taking Astragali Radix as a model drug, the mixed Astragali Radix powders with different powder properties were prepared by mixing Astragali Radix extract powders with microcrystalline cellulose and lactose, which were made to Astragali Radix tablets by direct compression method. The powder properties of mixed Astragali Radix powders and the disintegration time of Astragali Radix tablets were determined, respectively. The correlation between the original data was eliminated by principal component analysis (PCA). The principal component factors were used as the input layer of the GRNN model, and the disintegration time was used as the output layer for network training. Finally, the verification group data was used to predict the disintegration time, and the network prediction accuracy was calculated by comparing with the actual value. Result:Three principal component factors were obtained through PCA by analyzing the original nine variables that were correlated with each other (Hausner ratio, true density, tap density, compression degree, angle of repose, bulk density, porosity, water content and total dissolved solids), which reduced the complexity of the network. The prediction value of the disintegration time based on this prediction method was in good agreement with the actual value, the error of disintegration time was 0.01-1.34 min and the average relative error was 3.16%. Conclusion:Based on the GRNN mathematical model, the physical properties of Astragali Radix extract powders can be used to accurately predict the disintegration time of Astragali Radix tablets, which provides a reference for studying the disintegration time of TCM tablets.
10.Neuronal Autophagy in Depression and Regulatory Effect of Traditional Chinese Medicine: A Review

Depression is a mental illness characterized by persistent negative feelings, which has seriously threatened people's health. In recent years, neuronal autophagy, an important stress response, has also been regarded as a hypothesis for the pathogenesis of depression. Relevant studies have shown that either insufficient or excessive autophagy triggers neuronal damage, and activated or inhibited neuronal autophagy can be observed in animal models of depression. Therefore, neuronal autophagy may be a double-edged sword involved in the pathogenesis of depression. It is believed in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) that the occurrence of this disease is closely related to liver depression and spleen deficiency. Chinese medicine regulates the neuronal autophagy via multiple ways. The TCM monomers that regulate neuron autophagy are capable of protecting nerves or penetrating the blood-brain barrier. TCM compounds designed for soothing liver or invigorating spleen have been proved effective against this disease, demonstrating that the core pathogenesis of depression lies in liver depression and spleen deficiency. The regulatory effects of TCM on neuronal autophagy in depression models might result from its action on multiple targets, multiple pathways, and multiple systems. This paper discussed the limitations in current research based on the involvement of neuronal autophagy in depression and its treatments, in order to provide ideas for later similar research and that concerning TCM treatment of depression.
