AIM:To compare the changes in diopters and axial length after 1 a of wearing defocus incorporated multiple segments(DIMS)lenses or single vision(SV)spectacle lenses in children with monocular myopia.METHODS:In this retrospective case group study, monocular myopia children aged from 6 to 14 years old in Hankou Aier Eye Hospital from October 2020 to October 2022, who were fitted with DIMS lens(n=52)or single-vision(SV)spectacle lenses(n=49)were collected. The spherical degree of myopia eyes ranged from -4.00 D to -0.50 D and the nonmyopic eyes ranged from 0 to +1.00 D, astigmatism in all eyes ranged from 0 to -2.00 D. The DIMS lens group was classified into DIMS-myopia group(the myopic eyes)and DIMS-nonmyopia group(the nonmyopic eyes). The SV lens group was also divided into SV-myopia group and SV-nonmyopia group. The changes in spherical equivalent refraction(SER)and axial length(AL)of each group were compare before and after wearing lenses for 1 a, and variations in SER and AL of both eye among groups were analzed.RESULTS: After wearing lenses for 1 a, the changes of SER in the DIMS-myopic group and the DIMS-nonmyopic group were -0.41±0.44 and -0.26±0.54 D, respectively, and the changes of AL were 0.18±0.20 and 0.15±0.15 mm, respectively. SER changes were -0.74±0.63 and -0.70±0.68 D in SV-myopic group and SV-nonmyopic group, and AL changes were 0.30±0.28 and 0.31±0.28 mm. The changes of SER and AL in the DMS-myopic and non-myopic groups were slower than those in SV group(all P<0.05). Compared with SV lenses, wearing DIMS lenses delayed and 44.6% in myopia eyes, and 62.9% in non-myopia eyes, AL delayed by 40.0% in myopia eyes and 51.6% in non-myopia eyes. The percentage of 1-year AL change ≤0.2 mm in the DIMS-myopic group and non-myopic group was 53.9% and 65.4%, respectively, which was higher than that in the SV myopic group(34.7% and 42.9%, all P<0.05). The percentage of AL change >0.4 mm in the DIMS-myopic group and nonmyopic group was 17.3% and 7.7%, respectively, which was lower than that in the SV myopic group(32.7% and 28.6%, all P<0.05). There was no significant correlation between the change of AL and age and baseline AL in the DIMS-myopic and non-myopic groups after wearing lens for 1 a(all P>0.05); the change of AL in SV-myopic group and non-myopic group was negatively correlated with age(r=-0.446, P=0.001; r=-0.312, P=0.029), and there was no significant correlation with baseline AL(all P>0.05).CONCLUSION: DIMS lens has a good effect on myopia control and prevention in both myopia and non-myopia children with monocular myopia. Children with early pre-myopia can wear DIMS to prevent myopia.

		                        			 BACKGROUND:
The contraction behaviors of cardiomyocytes (CMs), especially contraction synchrony, are crucial factors reflecting their maturity and response to drugs. A wider field of view helps to observe more pronounced synchrony differences, but the accompanied greater computational load, requiring more computing power or longer computational time.

		                        			METHODS:
We proposed a method that directly correlates variations in optical field brightness with cardiac tissue contraction status (CVB method), based on principles from physics and photometry, for rapid video analysis in wide field of view to obtain contraction parameters, such as period and contraction propagation direction and speed.

		                        			RESULTS:
Through video analysis of human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC)-derived CMs labeled with green fluorescent protein (GFP) cultured on aligned and random nanofiber scaffolds, the CVB method was demonstrated to obtain contraction parameters and quantify the direction and speed of contraction within regions of interest (ROIs) in wide field of view. The CVB method required less computation time compared to one of the contour tracking methods, the LucasKanade (LK) optical flow method, and provided better stability and accuracy in the results.

		                        			CONCLUSION
This method has a smaller computational load, is less affected by motion blur and out-of-focus conditions, and provides a potential tool for accurate and rapid analysis of cardiac tissue contraction synchrony in wide field of view without the need for more powerful hardware.

ObjectiveTo assess the level of internal exposure to PCP in a community population in Shanghai, to investigate the factors affecting the level of PCP, and to analyze the correlation between the exposure and thyroid hormone levels. MethodsA total of 464 residents of a community in Shanghai were selected as the study subjects. A questionnaire survey was conducted to obtain the demographic information, dietary situation, lifestyle and behavioral habits, and disease history of the individuals, and blood samples were collected. Gas chromatography-electron trap was applied to determine the PCP levels in serum. Multicategorical logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the possible influencing factors of PCP exposure in humans. Thyroid hormone levels were used as the dependent variable and serum PCP as the independent variable. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to assess the association between PCP and thyroid hormones in the community population after controlling the confounding factors such as age, gender, literacy, annual personal income, and chronic diseases. ResultsThe detection rate of serum PCP in 464 subjects was 90.3%, and the median serum PCP level was 0.43 μg·L-1. The differences in PCP levels among different age groups were statistically significant. There were no significant differences in PCP levels among different gender and BMI groups. The study of PCP exposure factors showed that age, frequency of using plastic products, consumption of freshwater fish, type of occupation, annual income, and consumption of tea or coffee were the potential influencing factors for PCP exposure. Among them, age, frequency of using plastic products, consumption of tea or coffee, and consumption of freshwater fish were positively associated with PCP levels, and annual personal income was negatively associated with it. The results of multiple linear regression analysis showed that among men, PCP levels were positively correlated with TSH (b=0.105, 95%CI:0.017‒0.313) and negatively correlated with FT4 (b=-0.026, 95%CI:-0.057‒0.004), and among women, PCP levels were positively correlated with TSH (b=0.092, 95%CI:-0.211‒0.904) and FT3 (b=0.017, 95%CI:-0.058‒0.230) and negatively correlated with FT4 (b=-0.013, 95%CI:-0.011‒0.037). ConclusionSerum PCP detection is common among community residents in Shanghai. Different demographic characteristics or behavioral habits may increase or decrease PCP exposure. PCP exposure then affects human thyroid hormone levels.

Objective To investigate the clinical value of matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry(MALDI-TOF MS)in rapid detection of carbapenemase produced by Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Methods A total of 60 strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae and 80 strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated from Pizhou People's Hospital affiliated to Xuzhou Medical University from January 2022 to October 2023 were collected, including 30 strains of carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae(CRKP),30 strains of carbapenem-sensitive Klebsiella pneumoniae(CSKP),50 strains of carbapenem-resistant Pseudo-monas aeruginosa(CRPA)and 30 strains of carbapenem-sensitive Pseudomonas aeruginosa(CSPA).Three detection methods were applied,i.e.,modified carbapenem inactivation method(mCIM),colloidal gold immunochromatography and Autof MS 1000 mass spectrometry identification system to evaluate the ability of Autof MS 1000 mass spectrometry identification system in detecting carbape-nase production of Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Results The results of Autof MS 1000 mass spectrometry iden-tification system were consistent with those of both mCIM and colloidal gold immunochromatography.Carbapenemase was detected in 28 of the 30 CRKP strains, and it was negative in 2 CRKP strains.Carbapenamase was detected in 15 of the 50 CRPA strains and it was negative in 35 CRPA strains.Thirty strains of CSKP and 30 strains of CSPA were all Carbapenemase negative. The coincidence rate of the results of the three methods in the detection for carbapenase was 100%.Conclusion The result of Autof MS 1000 mass spectrome-try identification system has been consistent with those of mCIM and colloidal gold immunochromatography. It not only has the charac-teristics of cost-saving compare with of mCIM method, but also hold the advantages of fast speed and high accuracy of colloidal gold im-munochromatography method. Thus,Autof MS 1000 system can be used for the rapid identification of carbapenemase produced by Kleb-siella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
