Objective:To investigate the mechanism of depression between social capital and cognitive function of the elderly in nursing institutions, and provide new ideas for improving the cognitive function of the elderly. Methods:This study was a cross-sectional survey. Using the convenient sampling method to collect the general information questionnaire, the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS), Social Capital Scale and Montreal Cognitive Assessment Scale (MoCA) of 218 elderly people from three elderly nursing institutions including Shenyang Health Care Centre, Songpu Nursing Home and Colourful Sunshine City Pension Service Centre in Shenyang from July 2020 to January 2021.Results:A total of 218 questionnaires were distributed and 202 valid questionnaires were recovered. The effective recovery rate was 92.7%. The scores of the cognitive function, depression and social capital of the elderly were (23.60 ± 4.25), (6.38 ± 4.35) and (75.41 ± 8.61). Depression scores were negatively correlated with social capital scores and cognitive function scores ( r = - 0.401, - 0.481, both P<0.05); there was a positive correlation between social capital scores with cognitive function scores ( r = 0.338, P<0.05). There was a mediating effect of depression between social capital and cognitive function, accounting for 42.1%. Conclusions:While improving the cognitive function of the elderly in nursing institutions by improving the level of social capital, it is necessary to pay attention to the mediatingeffect of depression, strengthen the psychological counseling of the elderly, promote mental health, and further reduce the occurrence and development of cognitive decline in the elderly.

Objective:To explore the status of sense of research gain in nursing postgraduates, and to explore the correlation of sense of research gain, learning engagement, and mentors' guidance behavior. Methods:From April to May 2022, a total of 238 nursing postgraduates in China were selected as the research objects by convenience sampling method, and were investigated using Sense of Research Gain, Utrech Work Engagement Scale-Student and Mentors' Guidance Behavior Scale. Pearson correlation analysis was used to explore the correlation of learning engagement, mentors' guidance behavior and sense of research gain in nursing postgraduates. Hierarchical linear regression analysis was used to explore the influencing factors of sense of research gain. A total of 238 questionnaires were distributed in this study, and 231 valid questionnaires were received, with an effective recovery rate of 97.06%.Results:The score of Utrech Work Engagement Scale-Student in nursing postgraduates was (31.47±6.01) , the score of Sense of Research Gain was (63.47±17.07) , and the score of Mentors' Guidance Behavior Scale was (50.90±11.10) . Pearson correlation analysis results showed that the total score and each dimension score of Sense of Research Gain and Mentors' Guidance Behavior Scale were positively correlated with the total score and each dimension score of Utrech Work Engagement Scale-Student ( r value were 0.351-0.662, P all <0.01) . Hierarchical linear regression analysis results showed that mentor's title, learning engagement and mentor's guidance behavior were the influencing factors of sense of research gain in nursing postgraduates ( P<0.05) , which could explain 55.60% of the variation of the sense of research gain. Conclusions:The sense of research gain of nursing postgraduates still needs to be improved. Mentor's title as professor, learning engagement and mentor's guidance behavior were the influencing factors of sense of research gain in nursing postgraduates. School should strengthen the level of learning engagement of nursing postgraduates, standardize mentor's guidance behavior, so as to improve sense of research gain.

Chinese Journal of Modern Nursing 2022;28(20):2694-2700
Objective:To screen risk factors of postoperative venous thromboembolism (VTE) in patients in department of spinal surgery and establish a risk prediction model and conduct external validation. Methods:This study was a case-control study. Using the convenient sampling method, a total of 93 patients with VTE who underwent spinal surgery from May 2019 to April 2021 in the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University were selected as as the thrombosis group, while 100 patients who underwent spinal surgery without VTE during the same period were selected as the control group. A self-designed questionnaire about the risk factors of VTE in patients undergoing spinal surgery was used to investigate the patients. Binomial Logistic regression was used to analyze the risk factors of postoperative VTE in patients with spinal surgery and R software was used to establish a nomogram prediction model. A total of 46 patients (23 patient with VTE and 23 patients without VTE) from Department of Spinal Surgery from May and June 2021 were selected to verify the prediction model. Results:Age ( OR=1.603, 95% CI: 1.036-2.483) , operation time ( OR=0.253, 95% CI: 0.123-0.518) , use of internal fixation ( OR=0.128, 95% CI: 0.043-0.384) , application of bone cement ( OR=0.176, 95% CI: 0.048-0.652) , D-dimer ( OR=0.360, 95% CI: 0.147-0.884) and plasma fibrinogen degradation product ( OR=0.024, 95% CI: 0.006-0.091) were risk factors for VTE in spinal surgery patients. The prediction model was established according to the risk factors. The prediction agreement rate of the model was 0.865 and the sensitivity was 0.742. The model was externally validated with a sensitivity of 0.761, a specificity of 0.565 and an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.810. Conclusions:Age, operation time, use of internal fixation, application of bone cement, D-dimer and plasma fibrinogen degradation products are risk factors for postoperative VTE in patients with spinal surgery. Predictive models based on risk factors can predict the risk of VTE in spinal surgery patients.

Asian Nursing Research 2020;14(3):137-143
Purpose:
Elder self-neglect is a global public health issue and should be taken seriously at large. Nurses, usually working directly with elderly patients, have a better understanding of what factors may causeelder self-neglect. In this qualitative study, we explored the influencing factors of elder self-neglect fromthe perception of nurses in the context of Chinese culture.
Methods:
Face-to-face, in-depth interviews were conducted from November 2018 to December 2018.Purposive sampling was used. Twenty one participants recruited from eight geriatric wards of a generalhospital located in Wuhan were interviewed. A content analysis of qualitative nature was performed toanalyze the data.
Results:
Our conceptual model illustrated the findings based on the three themes of the conflict betweenpersonal recognition and social judgment, the choice between current needs and individual beliefs, aswell as the compromise between insufficient abilities and limited resources.
Conclusion
Nurses together with family members and social workers can help older adults improvetheir awareness of self-neglect to bridge the gap with social judgment, learn to focus on their own needs,as well as seek as much support as possible. Nurses should also respect the autonomy and selfdeterminationof elder self-neglecters because self-neglect is related to older adults' values. Furthermore, larger studies are needed to quantitatively test and refine the model.
