The pathogenesis of osteoarthritis (OA) is related to a variety of factors such as mechanical overload, metabolic dysfunction, aging, etc., and is a group of total joint diseases characterized by intra-articular chondrocyte apoptosis, cartilage fibrillations, synovial inflammation, and osteophyte formation. At present, the treatment methods for osteoarthritis include glucosamine, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, intra-articular injection of sodium hyaluronate, etc., which are difficult to take effect in a short period of time and require long-term treatment, so the patients struggle to adhere to doctor’s advice. Some methods can only provide temporary relief without chondrocyte protection, and some even increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and gastrointestinal disease. In the advanced stages of OA, patients often have to undergo joint replacement surgery due to pain and joint dysfunction. Mitochondrial dysfunction plays an important role in the development of OA. It is possible to improve mitochondrial biogenesis, quality control, autophagy balance, and oxidative stress levels, thereby exerting a protective effect on chondrocytes in OA. Therefore, compared to traditional treatments, improving mitochondrial function may be a potential treatment for OA. Here, we collected relevant literature on mitochondrial research in OA in recent years, summarized the potential pathogenic factors that affect the development of OA through mitochondrial pathways, and elaborated on relevant treatment methods, in order to provide new diagnostic and therapeutic ideas for the research field of osteoarthritis.

In August 2021, three students with diarrhea from the same school visited a local hospital in the S district of Beijing. An epidemic investigation showed that there were more students with diarrhea in the same school and they had one meal together. Campylobacter jejuni was isolated from both patients with diarrhea and asymptomatic food handlers; however, the latter also carried Campylobacter coli. Phylogenomic analysis showed that there was a campylobacteriosis outbreak among the students, and the asymptomatic food handler may have been the source of the infection. Routine inspection and surveillance for Campylobacter is needed for the food producing staff, particularly those cooking in the cafeteria in schools or other public food services.

		                        			OBJECTIVE:
To investigate the protective effect of cannabinoid receptor 2 (CB2) activation against acute lung injury in rats with lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced sepsis and explore the underlying mechanism.

		                        			METHODS:
Forty-eight SD rats were randomly assigned into control group, model group, CB2 agonist group and P38 MAPK inhibitor group (n=12). In the latter 3 groups, the rats received intraperitoneal injection of LPS to induce sepsis, and the control rats were given saline injection. In CB2 agonist group, JWH133 (3 mg/kg) was injected intraperitoneally 30 min before LPS injection; in P38 MAPK inhibitor group, the rats received intraperitoneal injection of SB203580 (5 mg/kg) 30 min prior to JWH133 injection. The changes in lung histopathology, water content, fluid clearance rate, inflammatory factors, pulmonary expressions of CB2 and tight junctionrelated genes, and phosphorylation of P38 MAPK in the lung tissues were examined.

		                        			RESULTS:
The rat models of sepsis showed severe damage of alveolar structures with significantly decreased fluid clearance rate, lowered pulmonary expressions of CB2, occludin and ZO-1 mRNA and proteins, increased water content in the lung tissue, and increased phosphorylation level of P38 MAPK and TNF-α and IL-1β levels in lung lavage fluid (all P < 0.05). Treatment with JWH133 improved alveolar pathology in the septic rats, but there was still inflammatory infiltration; lung tissue water content, phosphorylation of P38 MAPK, and TNF-α and IL-1β levels in lung lavage fluid were all significantly decreased, and the fluid clearance rate, pulmonary expressions of CB2, occludin and ZO-1 were significantly increased (all P < 0.05). Additional treatment with SB203580 resulted in further improvements of alveolar pathologies, lowered phosphorylation levels of P38 MAPK in the lung tissue and TNF-α and IL-1β levels in lung lavage fluid, and increased the protein expressions of occludin and ZO-1 (P < 0.05) without causing significant changes in mRNA and protein expression of CB2 (P > 0.05).

		                        			CONCLUSION
In rats with LPS-induced sepsis, activation of CB2 can inhibit the p38 MAPK signaling pathway, reduce the release of inflammatory factors in the lung tissues, promote tight junction protein expressions, and thus offer protection against acute lung injury.

Taste is an important factor affecting the medicinal properties of oral preparations and patient compliance with medication, and also an important evaluation index for oral preparation design and clinical application. How to characterize the taste objectively, accurately, simply, and efficiently is a bottleneck problem that restricts the taste design, development, and utilization of oral preparations. At present, the commonly used taste assessment methods for oral preparations are traditional human taste panel, electronic tongue, animal preference test, in vitro release study, and electrophysiological test. The traditional human taste panel is the first choice for taste evaluation, but it is limited by poor subjectivity and reproducibility. Therefore, despite some limitations, the other four taste assessment methods have been applied in the pharmaceutical industry as auxiliary methods. This study reviewed the detection principles, applicability, advantages, and disadvantages of the above methods to provide references for the taste correction research and taste assessment of oral preparations, improve patient compliance and the competitiveness of oral preparation products in the industry, and promote the development of oral preparation technologies.

		                        			 Background:
Previous studies have shown that endogenous T cells play an important role in the prolonged survival time of highgrade glioma (HGG) patients. Our objectives were to investigate the features of T-cell receptor (TCR) repertoires in HGG patients and to elucidate any potential therapeutic value.

		                        			Methods:
During November 2011 and December 2018, tumor tissues and blood samples of 35 patients with HGG who underwent surgery at Beijing Tiantan Hospital or Beijing Shijitan Hospital were selected after surgery. After isolating DNA from samples, multiple rounds of PCR were performed to establish a DNA immune repertoire (IR). Then, the sequences and frequencies of the complementarity-determining 3 (CDR3) region in TCR beta chain (TRB) were identified by high-throughput sequencing and IR analysis. A survival follow-up was conducted monthly thereafter until December 2018. Finally, the

Objective To improve the accuracy of preoperative diagnosis of renal vein tumor thrombus in renal cell carcinoma (RCC),the clinical characteristics of RCC with misdiagnosis of renal vein tumor thrombus (RVTT) were analyzed. Methods Clinical data of 128 patients with RCC accompanied with RVTT from January 2000 to September 2015 were studied retrospectively.According to whether RVTT failed to be detected preoperatively, all patients were divided into 39 cases of misdiagnosis group and 89 cases of no misdiagnosis group.Forty cases of RCC with pathologically confirmed no RVTT were selected as no tumor thrombus group from January 2015 to June 2015.Misdiagnosis group included 29 males and 10 females, with age of (61.4 ± 11.1) years old, body mass index of (26.74 ±3.12) kg/m2,KPS <80 in 2 cases, paraneoplastic syndrome and Mayo grade 0 in 1 case.No misdiagnosis group consisted of 74 males and 15 females, with age of (60.2 ± 9.7) years old, body mass index of (25.12 ± 1.93) kg/m2,KPS < 80 in 5 cases, paraneoplastic syndrome and Mayo grade 0 in 7 cases. No tumor thrombus group comprised of 31 males and 9 females, with age of (59.5 ± 10.7) years old, body mass index of (24.48 ± 2.56) kg/m2,KPS < 80 in 3 cases, and paraneoplastic syndrome in 3 cases. There was no significant difference in general clinical data between misdiagnosis group and no misdiagnosis group, and misdiagnosis group and no tumor thrombus group (P > 0.05).The tumor location, tumor diameter and imaging data were compared between misdiagnosis group and no misdiagnosis group, and misdiagnosis group and no tumor thrombus group. Results There was no significant difference in term of tumor locating in the middle pole [56.4% (22/39) vs.38.2% (34/89)],tumor with collateral vessels [33.3% (13/39) vs.31.5% (28/89)] and renal vein contrast agents filling defect [42.9% (9/21) vs.61.8% (21/34)] between misdiagnosis group and no misdiagnosis group (P > 0.05).The proportion of renal tumor locating in the middle pole, tumor with collateral vessels and renal vein contrast agents filling defect in misdiagnosis group was significantly higher than that of no tumor thrombus group [30.0% (12/40),P =0.018;10.0% (4/40),P =0.012;16.7% (4/24),P =0.002].Conclusions RVTT is vulnerable of misdianosis in RCC.It should be alert to the possibility of complicating tumor thrombus in the presence of renal tumor locating in the middle pole, renal tumor with collateral vessels and renal vein contrast agents filling defect. The clinical understanding of these features should be improved.

Objective: To investigate the current status of antithrombotic strategy for elderly patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and acute coronary syndrome (ACS) after stent implantation in Beijing area and to study the safety and efficacy of different therapeutic strategy. Methods: A total of 467 relevant patients were enrolled by re-travelling electronic medical records from 12 hospitals in Beijing area. The patients' mean age was (78.70±3.32) years and they were divided into 2 groups by antithrombotic therapy condition: Triple therapy group, n=17 (3.64%), Double therapy group, n=450 (96.36%). The incidence of major adverse cardiac and cerebral events (MACCE) including all-caused death, non-fatal myocardial infarction, stent thrombosis, target vessel revascularization (TVR), stoke and bleeding was compared between Triple therapy group and Double therapy group. Results: The medication in Double therapy group included aspirin+ticagrelor, aspirin+clopidogrel, clopidogrel+warfarin and cilostazol+clopidogrel; in Triple therapy group was aspirin+clopidogrel+warfarin. Patient with HAS-BLED score≥3 was defined as high risk of bleeding and they were all treated by double therapy; HAS-BLED<3 was defined as low risk of bleeding, only 5.03% patients were treated by triple therapy. 3 patients in Triple therapy group and 33 in Double therapy group suffered from gastrointestinal bleeding, P=0.338; 6 patients in Triple therapy group and 128 in Double therapy group had MACCE, P=0.589; 3 and 80 patients died in Triple therapy group and Double therapy group, P=0.766. Conclusion: Triple therapy was rarely used in elderly AF and ACS patients after stent implantation, double therapy was the main strategy; the incidence of MACCE and mortality were similar between triple and double therapies; patients with triple therapy had the higher incidence of gastrointestinal bleeding.

Objectives: To compare the short-term and mid-term outcomes of elderly patients (>60 years old) with valvular heart disease (VHD) underwent bioprosthetic or mechanical valve replacement. Methods: Between January 2007 and December 2010, 559 elderly patients underwent valve replacement in Fuwai Hospital, clinical data of these patients were analyzed retrospectively (319 cases with bioprostheses vs 240 cases with mechanical prostheses). After matching, data from 192 cases in each group were compared. Results: The mortality within 30 postoperative days were similar (2.1% in both groups). All-cause death during follow up was also similar between the two groups (13.6% vs 13.7%, P=0.98). There was no statistically significant difference on the hospital readmission rate between the two groups (25.5% vs 35.9%, P=0.17). No significant difference was found on thromboembolic and hemorrhagic events free survival between the two groups (144 cases vs 138 cases, P=0.78). Conclusions: Short-term and mid-term survival and readmission rate are similar for the elderly VHD patients receiving bioprosthetic or mechanical valve replacement.
