1.Obstetric Diseases Responding Specifically to Traditional Chinese Medicine

In recent years, with the change in life style, social environment, and national childbearing policy, the proportion of high-risk pregnant women has increased significantly, triggering the spectrum of obstetric diseases to constantly change, which has brought new challenges to the diagnosis and treatment of obstetrics. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been proved effective in dealing with a variety of obstetric diseases, and various treatment methods are available, which can serve as alternative means for solving refractory obstetric diseases. However, most obstetric clinicians are currently less aware of the therapeutic effects of TCM, which has significantly hindered its participation in clinical treatment. Therefore, the China Association of Chinese Medicine (CACM) organized the outstanding young obstetricians of TCM and western medicine to discuss 15 obstetric diseases responding specifically to TCM or integrated TCM and western medicine, including hyperemesis gravidarum, threatened abortion, ectopic gestation, cough during pregnancy, pregnancy-induced hypertension syndrome, maternal-fetal ABO incompatibility, postpartum hypogalactia, residual pregnancy tissue in uterine cavity, puerperal infection, pantalgia after childbirth, hematoma/undesirable healing after caesarean section, postpartum urinary retention, ileus after cesarean section, pelvic floor dysfunction, and postnatal depression. The suggestions for their treatment with TCM or integrated TCM and western medicine were also proposed, aiming to provide patients with effective and personalized treatments in clinical practice and improve the diagnosis and treatment effects of obstetric diseases, thus benefiting the public. At the same time, more obstetrical clinicians are expected to understand the therapeutic effects and advantages of TCM and draw on the strengths of both TCM and western, thereby promoting the establishment of an obstetric diagnosis and treatment system with Chinese characteristics.
2.Moderate Dose of Trolox Preventing the Deleterious Effects of Wi-Fi Radiation on Spermatozoathrough Reduction of Oxidative Stress Damage.

BackgroundThe worsening of semen quality, due to the application of Wi-Fi, can be ameliorated by Vitamin E. This study aimed to demonstrate whether a moderate dose of trolox, a new Vitamin E, inhibits oxidative damage on sperms in vitro after exposure to Wi-Fi radiation.
MethodsEach of the twenty qualified semen, gathered from June to October 2014 in eugenics clinic, was separated into four aliquots, including sham, Wi-Fi-exposed, Wi-Fi plus 5 mmol/L trolox, and Wi-Fi plus 10 mmol/L trolox groups. At 0 min, all baseline parameters of the 20 samples were measured in sequence. Reactive oxygen species, glutathione, and superoxide dismutase were evaluated in the four aliquots at 45 and 90 min, as were sperm DNA fragments, sperm mitochondrial potential, relative amplification of sperm mitochondrial DNA, sperm vitality, and progressive and immotility sperm. The parameters were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance and Tukey's posttest.
ResultsAmong Wi-Fi plus 5 mmol/L trolox, Wi-Fi-exposed and Wi-Fi plus 10 mmol/L trolox groups, reactive oxygen species levels (45 min: 3.80 ± 0.41 RLU·10·mlvs. 7.50 ± 0.35 RLU·10·mlvs. 6.70 ± 0.47 RLU·10·ml, P < 0.001; 90 min: 5.40 ± 0.21 RLU·10·mlvs. 10.10 ± 0.31 RLU·10·mlvs. 7.00 ± 0.42 RLU·10·ml, P < 0.001, respectively), percentages of tail DNA (45 min: 16.8 ± 2.0% vs. 31.9 ± 2.5% vs. 61.3 ± 1.6%, P < 0.001; 90 min: 19.7 ± 1.5% vs. 73.7 ± 1.3% vs. 73.1 ± 1.1%, P < 0.001, respectively), 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (45 min: 51.89 ± 1.46 pg/ml vs. 104.89 ± 2.19 pg/ml vs. 106.11 ± 1.81 pg/ml , P = 0.012; 90 min: 79.96 ± 1.73 pg/ml vs. 141.73 ± 2.90 pg/ml vs. 139.06 ± 2.79 pg/ml; P < 0.001), and percentages of immotility sperm (45 min: 27.7 ± 2.7% vs. 41.7 ± 2.2% vs. 41.7 ± 2.5%; 90 min: 29.9 ± 3.3% vs. 58.9 ± 4.0% vs. 63.1 ± 4.0%; all P < 0.001) were lowest, and glutathione peroxidase (45 min: 60.50 ± 1.54 U/ml vs. 37.09 ± 1.77 U/ml vs. 28.18 ± 1.06 U/ml; 90 min: 44.61 ± 1.23 U/ml vs. 16.86 ± 0.93 U/ml vs. 29.94 ± 1.56 U/ml; all P < 0.001), percentages of head DNA (45 min: 83.2 ± 2.0% vs. 68.2 ± 2.5% vs. 38.8 ± 1.6%; 90 min: 80.3 ± 1.5% vs. 26.3 ± 1.3% vs. 26.9 ± 1.1%; all P < 0.001), percentages of sperm vitality (45 min: 89.5 ± 1.6% vs. 70.7 ± 3.1% vs. 57.7 ± 2.4%; 90 min: 80.8 ± 2.2% vs. 40.4 ± 4.0% vs. 34.7 ± 3.9%; all P < 0.001), and progressive sperm (45 min: 69.3 ± 2.7% vs. 55.8 ± 2.2% vs. 55.4 ± 2.5%; 90 min: 67.2 ± 3.3% vs. 38.2 ± 4.0% vs. 33.9 ± 4.0%; all P < 0.001) were highest in Wi-Fi plus 5 mmol/L trolox group at 45 and 90 min, respectively. Other parameters were not affected, while the sham group maintained the baseline.
ConclusionThis study found that 5 mmol/L trolox protected the Wi-Fi-exposed semen in vitro from the damage of electromagnetic radiation-induced oxidative stress.
3.The Bidirectional Effects of Arsenic on miRNA-21: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVEArsenic is a metalloid environmental carcinogen involved in the occurrence and development of many cancers. miRNA-21 plays a crucial role in arsenic-induced carcinogenesis. We aimed to elucidate the mechanism by which miRNA-21 influences arsenic-induced cancer.
METHODSWe used meta-analysis of published studies to determine how arsenic induces cancerous cells through miRNA-21.
RESULTSLow-dose arsenic exposure (⪕ 5 μmol/L) can increase miRNA-21 and phosphorylated signal transducter and activator of transcription 3 (pSTAT3) expression, and decrease programmed cell death protein 4 (PDCD4) and protein sprouty homolog 1 (Spry1) expression. High-dose arsenic exposure (> 5 μmol/L), can increase miRNA-21 expression, and decrease Spry1 and E-cadherin expression. Short-term arsenic exposure (⪕ 24 h) can increase miRNA-21 and pSTAT3 expression, and decrease PDCD4 expression. Moreover, long-term arsenic exposure (> 24 h) can increase the miRNA-21, STAT3, and pSTAT3 expression, and decrease PDCD4 expression. We found that activation of miRNA-21 and pSTAT3 were most pronounced following long-term arsenic exposure at low doses, and the effects on PDCD4 expression were most pronounced following short-term arsenic exposure at low doses. miRNA-21 inhibitors increased the expression of tumor suppressor genes PDCD4, PTEN, and Spry1 and miRNA-21-mimics suppressed the expression of these tumor suppressor genes.
CONCLUSIONArsenic can cause cancer by activating miRNA-21 and inhibiting the expression of PDCD4, PTEN, and Spry1.
4.Grape Seed Proanthocyanidin Extract Alleviates Arsenic-induced Oxidative Reproductive Toxicity in Male Mice.

OBJECTIVETo determine the ability of grape seed proanthocyanidin extract (GSPE) in alleviating arsenic-induced reproductive toxicity.
METHODSSixty male Kunming mice received the following treatments by gavage: normal saline solution (control); arsenic trioxide (ATO; 4 mg/kg); GSPE (400 mg/kg); ATO+GSPE (100 mg/kg); ATO+GSPE (200 mg/kg) and ATO+GSPE (400 mg/kg). Thereafter, the mice were sacrificed and weighed, and the testis was examined for pathological changes. Nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2 (Nrf2), heme oxygenase 1 (HO1), glutathione S-transferase (GST), NAD(P)H dehydrogenase, and quinone 1 (NQO1) expression in the testis was detected by real-time PCR. Superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione (GSH), total antioxidative capability (T-AOC), malondialdehyde (MDA), 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG), and reproductive indexes were analyzed.
RESULTSATO-treated mice showed a significantly decreased sperm count and testis somatic index and activity levels of SOD, GSH, and T-AOC than control group. Compared to the ATO-treated group, ATO +GSPE group showed recovery of the measured parameters. Mice treated with ATO+high-dose GSPE showed the highest level of mRNA expression of Nrf2, HO, NQO1, and GST.
CONCLUSIONGSPE alleviates oxidative stress damage in mouse testis by activating Nrf2 signaling, thus counteracting arsenic-induced reproductive toxicity.

5.In vitro simulation on haemodynamics of mural coronary artery

Objective To study the effect of myocardial bridge oppression on blood flow, positive pressure, circumferential stress and shear stress of the coronary artery. Methods The original myocardial bridge simulative device was greatly improved to be able to measure multi-hemodynamic parameters, such as normal stress, circumferential stress and shear stress, so as to exactly simulate real blood dynamics environment with the common effect of several stresses, and comprehensively investigate the relationship between hemodynamics and atherosclerosis of mural coronary artery under the combined effects of several stresses. Results The results from the myocardial bridge simulative device indicated that the hemodynamic abnormalities were mainly located in the proximal end of mural coronary artery, and the mean and oscillation values of normal stress at the proximal end were increased by 27.8% and 139%, respectively, showing a significant increase with the intensification of myocardial bridge oppression. Conclusions It is myocardial oppression that causes the hemodynamic abnormity of proximal coronary artery, which is quite important for understanding the hemodynamic mechanism of coronary atherosclerotic diseases and valuable for studying pathological effects and treatments of the myocardial bridge in clinic.
6.Epidemiological study on overweight and obesity among rural adult residents in Hazakh and Uygur population in Xinjiang province, 2010.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the prevalence and distribution features of overweight, obesity and abdominal obesity among rural adult residents in Hazakh and Uygur population in Xinjiang province, 2010.
METHODSQuestionnaire-based survey and physical examination were conducted towards the 8611 subjects selected from Hazakh and Uygur residents aged over 18 years old in Yili Xinyuan County and Kashi Jiashi County in Xinjiang province by stratified cluster random sampling method; and thereby the results were analyzed and compared between the two ethnic populations.
RESULTSThe prevalence of overweight in Hazakh(male: 29.5% (612/2078) and female: 26.4% (789/2991)) was higher than that in Uygur(male: 25.5% (440/1728) and female: 21.9% (397/1814)). The difference showed statistical significance (male: χ(2) = 7.50, female: χ(2) = 12.27, P < 0.01). The prevalence was higher in males than in females among the same ethic population (Hazakh: χ(2) = 5.79, Uygur: χ(2) = 6.28, P < 0.05). The prevalence of obesity in Hazakh(male:18.2% (379/2078) and female:18.1% (540/2991)) was higher than that in Uygur(male: 9.4% (163/1728) and female: 13.2% (240/1814)). The difference showed statistical significance (male: χ(2) = 59.90, female: χ(2) = 19.32, P < 0.01). The female prevalence was higher than male in Uygur (χ(2) = 12.66, P < 0.01); however, there was no statistically significant difference in the prevalence stratified by gender in Hazakh. The prevalence of abdominal obesity in Hazakh(male: 57.0% (1185/2078) and female: 60.2% (1801/2991)) was higher than that in Uygur(male: 46.9% (811/1728) and female: 59.5% (1080/1814)). The difference showed statistical significance (male: χ(2) = 38.54, P < 0.01; female: χ(2) = 0.216, P > 0.05). And the female prevalence was both higher than male in the two ethic populations (Hazakh: χ(2) = 5.15, P < 0.05; Uygur: χ(2) = 56.50, P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONThe prevalence abdominal obesity among rural adult residents in Hazakh and Uygur population was much higher than the average level nationwide in China. Hazakh had a higher prevalence of overweight and obesity than Uygur.

7.The epidemic situation of metabolic syndrome among the Uygur in Kashgar of Xinjiang in 2010.

OBJECTIVETo analyze the prevalence and risk factors of metabolic syndrome (MS) in Xinjiang Uygur adults.
METHODSWith cluster random sampling, investigations including questionnaire, physical examination and blood testing were performed among 3442 Uygur adults among in Kashgar of Xinjiang on November 2010. Prevalence of MS in groups with different characteristics were calculated and non-conditional logistic regression analysis were used to analyze the risk factors.
RESULTSThe prevalence of MS was 21.2% (728/3442), and the age-adjusted prevalence was 18.5%. The prevalence among males and females was 14.5% (245/1694) (age-adjusted prevalence 12.7%) and 27.6% (483/1748) (age-adjusted prevalence 24.4%) respectively (P < 0.05). The prevalence of MS among 18 to 24 years old and 65 years old and above were 4.3% (21/490) and 28.9% (109/377) respectively. The prevalence of MS increased with age (χ(2) = 204.13, P < 0.05). The prevalence of low blood HDL-C, central obesity, hypertension, hypertriglyceridemia and hyperglycemia was 57.5% (1978/3442), 44.5% (1531/3442), 27.5% (948/3442), 20.2% (696/3442) and 8.6% (297/3442) respectively. Compared to age group 18 - 24, the risk of MS occurrence was higher in age group 25 - 34, 35 - 44, 45 - 54, 55 - 64 and 65 years-old above, the according OR (95%CI) values were 2.29 (1.38 - 3.81), 6.91 (4.31 - 11.09), 10.81 (6.72 - 17.40), 12.52 (7.74 - 20.26) and 10.20 (6.20 - 16.78), respectively. Smoking also increased the risk of MS (OR = 2.35, 95%CI: 1.64 - 3.37).
CONCLUSIONThe prevalence of MS in Xinjiang Uygur was in high level; The prevalence of MS is higher in female than in male; The risk factors of MS included female, age and smoking.

9.Relationship study of angiotensin II type 1 receptor gene A1166C polymorphism, food consumption and behavior on hypertension in Kazakh group, Xinjiang.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the polymorphism of angiotensin II type 1 receptor (AT(1R)) gene A1166C and environmental factors on hypertension of Kazakh people.
METHODSThrough the random program of SPSS 13.0, 220 cases were randomly selected from the confirmed hypertension patients, and 220 cases with normal blood pressure were selected as control group. All cases were investigated through the questionnaire and the related indexes were measured. By polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method, the genotypes were determined.
RESULTS(1) In hypertension group, the genotype frequency of AA and AC were 78.6% (173/220) and 21.4% (47/220), respectively, compared with control groups' 81.4% (179/220) and 18.6% (41/220), no significant difference was identified between these two groups (chi(2) = 0.537, P > 0.05). In hypertension group, the frequency of A and C allele were 89.0% and 11.0%, respectively, compared with 90.3% and 9.7% in control group. There was no significant difference between these two groups (chi(2) = 0.37, P > 0.05). (2) AC genotype might interact with excessive salt consumption (hypertension group, 31/220, 15.5%; control group 10/220, 4.5%, OR: 4.67, 95%CI: 2.15 - 10.15), overweight (hypertension group, 19/220, 8.6%; control group, 9/220, 4.1%, OR: 6.96, 95%CI: 2.33 - 20.76) and drinking large volume of salty milk (hypertension group, 20/220, 9.1%; control group, 10/220, 4.5%, OR: 2.67, 95%CI: 1.11 - 6.42) which will raise hypertension hazard of AC genotype.
CONCLUSIONThere is no relationship between the A1166C gene polymorphism of AT(1R) gene and hypertension of Kazakh people. AC genotypes might also interact with food consumption habit and behavior factors and increase the individual risk of hypertension.

10.HPLC-DAD-ESI/MS Fingerprint of Aristolochia manshuriensis

Objective To establish the analytical method for fingerprint of Aristolochia manshuriensis by HPLC-DAD-ESI/MS,which can be used as the basis for quality control of the drug and for the further studies on kidney toxicity metabolite.Methods Samples A.manshuriensis from different habitats were extracted by 75% methanol and analyzed by HPLC-DAD-ESI/MS,whose chromatographic fingerprints were established.Two ways to calculate the similarity were selected to compare the results by determining the common peaks.Results There were 30 main characteristic components in A.manshuriensis.The HPLC-DAD-ESI/MS fingerprint of the 30 common peaks was established preliminarily.The samples of A.manshuriensis from different habitats was found having a good similarity,and the range of similarities for 24 balches of A.manshuriensis were 0.871—0.998.Conclusion The method is reliable,accurate,and of good stability,and can be used for the quality control and variety identification of A.manshuriensis.
