1.Epidemiology and Functional Outcome of Acute Stroke Patients in Korea Using Nationwide data

		                        			 Objective:
		                        			: Korea’s healthcare system and policy promotes early, actively stroke treatment to improve prognosis. This study represents stroke epidemiology and outcomes in Korea. 
		                        		
		                        			Methods:
		                        			: This study investigated data from the Acute Stroke Assessment Registry. The registry collects data from over 220 hospitals nationwide, focusing on quality stroke service management. Data analysis included patient demographics, stroke severity assessment, and discharge prognosis measurement using standardized scales. 
		                        		
		                        			Results:
		                        			: Eighty-six thousand five hundred sixty-eight acute stroke patients were collected with demographic and clinical characteristics during 18 months from 2016, 2018, and between 2020 to 2021, focusing on acute subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), acute intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), and acute ischemic stroke. Of these 86568 patients, 8.3% was SAH, 16.3% ICH, and 74.9% ischemic stroke. Trends showed decreasing SAH and increasing ICH cases over the years. 68.3% stroke patients had the clear onset time. 49.6% stroke patients arrived within 4.5 hours of symptom onset, with more patients treated at general hospitals. Good functional outcomes at discharge was obtained with 58.3% of acute stroke patients, 55.9% of SAH patients, 34.6% of ICH patients, and 63.8% of ischemic stroke patients. 
		                        		
		                        			Conclusion
		                        			: The results showed that ischemic stroke was the most common subtype, followed by ICH and SAH. 2.Spatiotemporal Gait Parameters During Turning and Imbalance in Parkinson’s Disease: Video-Based Analysis From a Single Camera

		                        			 Objective:
		                        			This study aims to objectively evaluate turning gait parameters in Parkinson’s disease (PD) patients using 2D-RGB video-based analysis and explore their relationships with imbalance. 
		                        		
		                        			Methods:
		                        			We prospectively enrolled PD patients for clinical assessment, balance analysis and gait with 180º turning. Spatiotemporal gait parameters during turning were derived using video-based analysis and correlated with modified Hoehn and Yahr (mHY) stages and center of pressure (COP) oscillations. 
		                        		
		                        			Results:
		                        			A total of 64 PD patients were enrolled. The PD patients with higher mHY stages (≥2.5) had significantly longer turning times, greater numbers of steps, wider step bases and less variability in step length during turns. COP oscillations were positively correlated with the mean turning time on both the anterior-posterior and right-left axes. 
		                        		
		                        			Conclusion
		                        			Spatiotemporal gait parameter during turning, derived from video-based gait analysis, may represent apromising biomarker for monitoring postural instability in PD patients. 
		                        		
		                        		
		                        		
		                        	
3.The Anti-Inflammatory Activities of Benzylideneacetophenone Derivatives in LPS Stimulated BV2 Microglia Cells and Mice

		                        			 A previously reported study highlighted the neuroprotective potential of the novel benzylideneacetophenone derivative, JC3, in mice. In pursuit of compounds with even more robust neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory properties compared to JC3, we synthesized substituted 1,3-diphenyl-2-propen-1-ones based on chalcones. Molecular modeling studies aimed at discerning the chemical structural features conducive to heightened biological activity revealed that JCII-8,10,11 exhibited the widest HOMOLUMO gap within this category, indicating facile electron and radical transfer between HOMO and LUMO in model assessments.From the pool of synthesized compounds, JCII-8,10,11 were selected for the present investigation. The biological assays involving JCII-8,10,11 demonstrated their concentration-dependent suppression of iNOS and COX-2 protein levels, alongside various cytokine mRNA expressions in LPS-induced murine microglial BV2 cells. Furthermore, western blot analyses were conducted to investigate the MAPK pathways and NF-κB/p65 nuclear translocation. These evaluations conclusively confirmed the inflammatory inhibition effects in both in vitro and in vivo inflammation models. These findings establish JCII-8,10,11 as potent anti-inflammatory agents, hindering inflammatory mediators and impeding NF-κB/p65 nuclear translocation via JNK and ERK MAPK phosphorylation in BV2 cells. The study positions them as potential therapeutics for inflammation-related conditions. Emerging research suggests that the gut microbiota plays a critical role in regulating neurodegeneration via modulation of the gut-brain axis. Probiotics, defined as live microorganisms that confer health benefits to the host, have garnered significant attention owing to their therapeutic potential in NDDs. This review examines the current research trends related to the microbiome-gut-brain axis across various NDDs, highlighting key findings and their implications. Additionally, the effects of specific probiotic strains, including Lactobacillus plantarum, Bifidobacterium breve, and Lactobacillus rhamnosus, on neurodegenerative processes were assessed, focusing on their potential therapeutic benefits.
