The Ministry of Education and other four departments jointly issued the Notice on the Construction of high-level schools of public Health, proposing that "it will take ten years to build a number of high-level schools of public health, and form a high-quality education development system to adapt to the construction of modern public health system". At present, the construction of high-level public health schools in various universities in China is in full swing. The high-level School of Public Health and the CDC have played an important role in constructing the national public health system and the human health community. The high-level public health schools are of strategic significance and important value to the development of the CDC. The review presents reflections and insights on the role of high-level public health schools in the development of the CDC and the challenges they might face.

3.Current Issues and Future Considerations in Undergraduate Medical Education from the Perspective of the Korean Medical Doctor Development System

Observation of the current Korean medical education and training system shows that certain negative traits of unchangeable solidification engraft themselves so deeply into the overarching system that they are now hampering the state of the national health welfare. Focusing only on undergraduate medical education, we can point out some glaring side-effects that should be of concern to any stakeholder. For instance, a graduate can legally begin his career as an independent practitioner immediately after passing the licensing exam and return to the old stuck school-year system of 2-year-premedical and 4-year-medical programs where outcome-based and integrated curricula are incomplete and unsatisfactory. In terms of learning opportunities, the balance between patient care and public health, as well as that between in-hospital highly specialized practice and community-based general practice, has worsened. Every stakeholder should be aware of these considerations in order to obtain the insight to forge a new direction. Moreover, our medical schools must prepare our students to take on the global roles of patient care within the Fourth Industrial Revolution, health advocacy for the imminent super-aged society, and education and research in the bio-health industry, by building and applying the concept of academic medicine. We will need to invest more resources, including educational specialists, into the current undergraduate medical education system in order to produce proper outcomes, smart curriculum, innovative methods of teaching and learning, and valid and reliable monitoring and evaluation. The improved quality of undergraduate medical education is the starting point for the success of the national system for public health and medical care as a whole, and therefore its urgency and significance should be emphasized to the public. The medical society should go beyond fixing what is broken and usher in a new era of cooperation and collaboration that invites other health professionals, governmental partners, law-makers, opinion leaders, and the general public in its steps toward the future.

4.Survey on the undergraduate curriculum in clinical pharmacology and interns' prescribing ability in South Korea

Appropriate prescription writing is one of the critical medical processes affecting the quality of public health care. However, this is a complex task for newly qualified intern doctors because of its complex characteristics requiring sufficient knowledge of medications and principles of clinical pharmacology, skills of diagnosis and communication, and critical judgment. This study aims to gather data on the current status of undergraduate prescribing education in South Korea. Two surveys were administered in this study: survey A to 26 medical schools in South Korea to gather information on the status of undergraduate education in clinical pharmacology; and survey B to 244 intern doctors in large hospitals to gather their opinions regarding prescribing education and ability. In survey A, half of the responding institutions provided prescribing education via various formats of classes over two curriculums including lecture, applied practice, group discussions, computer-utilized training, and workshops. In survey B, we found that intern doctors have the least confidence when prescribing drugs for special patient populations, especially pregnant women. These intern doctors believed that a case-based practical training or group discussion class would be an effective approach to supplement their prescribing education concurrently or after the clerkship in medical schools or right before starting intern training with a core drug list. The results of the present study may help instructors in charge of prescribing education when communicating and cooperating with each other to improve undergraduate prescribing education and the quality of national medical care.

5.Comparison of school-based and home-based application of permethrin shampoo for the treatment of Pediculosis capatis - A pragmatic cluster-randomized trial.

BACKGROUND: Pediculosis continues to be a common yet neglected public health problem especially in children. Trials to test for effectiveness for head lice interventions are heterogeneous, and a recent systematic review recommended the use of cluster randomization and centralized administration (e.g. school) of permethrin for pediculosis trials.
OBJECTIVE: To compare the effectiveness of a school-based to a home-based intervention using permethrin 1% shampoo in treating pediculosis capitis.
METHODS: We conducted a pragmatic, cluster-randomized trial at the Makati Elementary School. All Grade Four students (n = 211), belonging to a total of five class sections, were invited to participate in the study. Students with a known allergic reaction to permethrin 1% shampoo, with open wounds on the scalp, or were absent on Days 1 or 10 of the intervention period were excluded. The five class sections were randomized to receive permethrin 1% shampoo to be applied either in school, or at home. The students were classified as having none, light, medium, or heavy infestation prior to Day 1 and after Day 10 treatment. Prevalence, incidence, and treatment outcomes were measured.
RESULTS: The baseline prevalence of pediculosis capitis was 58.4%. General characteristics of students were similar between groups. No significant clustering in pediculosis classification was observed. The school-based group had the same prevalence in pediculosis at Days 1 and 10, had no incident cases, and were limited to light infestation by Day 10, but had no treatment success outcomes. The home-based group had increased prevalence by Day 10, poor compliance with Day 1 and 10 shampoo, incident cases, although it registered a higher treatment success rate.
CONCLUSION: Compared to standard home based intervention, a school-based strategy resulted in less incident cases (0% vs. 37%), reduction in pediculosis severity (p = 0.007), and higher compliance (100% vs. 58.3%). Control of pediculosis in this specific community is largely warranted because of its high prevalence rate of 59.7%.

6.Effects of a Workplace Multiple Cardiovascular Disease Risks Reduction Program.

PURPOSE: Interventions targeting multiple risk behaviors have the potential to offer greater health benefits on public health. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of a Workplace Multiple Cardiovascular Disease Risks Reduction Program (WMCVDRRP) on male participants at high risk for cardiovascular disease. METHODS: One group pretest-posttest design was applied in this study. No control group was assigned as this study was the first one in Taiwan conducted to promote participants' health using WMCVDRRP and thus with the nature of a pilot study. The program design was based on the collaboration between the health clinic at the corporation and a nursing school targeting six health behaviors. Of the 465 individuals who participated, data from 283 participants were included in the analysis. The change in any of six health behaviors and eight physical indicators were tested as the effect of the WMCVDRRP. RESULTS: Nearly 40% of the participants improved their regular exercise, diet control, stress management, and medication adherence. Although the improvement in drinking behaviors did not show statistical significance, 21% of the participants changed in alcohol consumption and 21% quit smoking. Eight physical indicators including systolic and diastolic blood pressure, total cholesterol, triglyceride, body mass index, waist-hip ratio, body fat, and muscle weight improved significantly. CONCLUSION: Dual collaboration between the industry and nursing schools could establish a cost-effective program to improve health behaviors and health status of participants.

7.Historical Review of Lee Keumjeon, a Pioneer in Community Health Nursing in Korea.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to show the development of community health nursing in Korea in light of the life of Lee Keumjeon (1900~1990), who devoted her life to community health nursing. METHODS: Primary and secondary sources were collected and analyzed. RESULTS: Lee could get high level education up to college courses, which was very exceptional at that time in Korea. She got nursing and midwifery education in Severance Hospital (1929) and majored in public health nursing at Toronto University (1930). Then, she worked in mother-and-child health practice for more than 10 years. She helped the Korean Nurses' Association to publish Public Health Nursing (1933) and other nursing books. After the liberation of Korea, she became a governmental official in the public health nursing field and tried to establish the national public health nursing system. During the Korean War, she devoted herself to nursing education and practice at nursing schools and hospitals. After the war, she worked as president of the Korean Nurses' Association. In 1959, Lee was given the Nightingale award. Although she retired in 1960, she continued to devote herself to the development of nursing, and published her book Public Health Nursing (1967). CONCLUSION: Lee worked from 1920s to 1960s for the development of nursing in Korea and during the period Korean nursing showed great development to national system and professional status.

8.Schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminth infections in school children in the Lake Mainit area in Northeastern Mindanao: An opportunity for integrated helminth control in the school setting.

OBJECTIVES:This study aimed to determine the epidemiologic status of schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminth (STH) infections in the Lake Mainit area in Northeastern Mindanao.
METHODS: School children from the municipalities of Alegria and Mainit in Surigao del Norte, and Jabonga and Kitcharao in Agusan del Norte were targeted as participants. Stools were collected, processed through Kata Katz method, and examined. Data gathered were double-encoded and processed to derive parasitologic parameters that were used to categorize the municipalities based on the World Health Organization guidelines.
RESULTS:The overall prevalence of schistosomiasis was 10.9%, while the prevalence of heavy intensity infections was 0.1%. Alegria and Mainit were classified as moderate-risk communities, while Jabonga and Kitcharao were classified as low-risk communities. The overall cumulative prevalence of STH infections was 43.9%, while prevalence of heavy intensity infection was 12.7% Jabonga and Kitcharao were classified as Category I communities, while the reset were classified as Category III.
CONCLUSION:There is a need to consider implementation of school-based Mass Drug Administration (MDA) for schistosomiasis control in the same manner as in the implementation of MDA for STH control. Multisectoral involvement is necessary for integration of efforts in addressing the parasitic diseases as public health concerns in the area.

9.Modified Delphi method in the constitution of school sanitation standard.

OBJECTIVE:
To constitute school sanitation standard using modified Delphi method, and to explore the feasibility and the predominance of Delphi method in the constitution of school sanitation standard.
METHODS:
Two rounds of expert consultations were adopted in this study. The data were analyzed with SPSS15.0 to screen indices of school sanitation standard.
RESULTS:
Thirty-two experts accomplished the 2 rounds of consultations. The average length of expert service was (24.69 ±8.53) years. The authority coefficient was 0.729 ±0.172. The expert positive coefficient was 94.12% (32/34) in the first round and 100% (32/32) in the second round. The harmonious coefficients of importance, feasibility and rationality in the second round were 0.493 (P<0.05), 0.527 (P<0.01), and 0.535 (P<0.01), respectively, suggesting unanimous expert opinions. According to the second round of consultation, 38 indices were included in the framework.
CONCLUSION
Theoretical analysis, literature review, investigation and so on are generally used in health standard constitution currently. Delphi method is a rapid, effective and feasible method in this field.

10.Conducting correlation seminars in basic sciences at KIST Medical College, Nepal.

KIST Medical College is a new medical school in Lalitpur, Nepal. In Nepal, six basic science subjects are taught together in an integrated organ system-based manner with early clinical exposure and community medicine. Correlation seminars are conducted at the end of covering each organ system. The topics are decided by the core academic group (consisting of members from each basic science department, the Department of Community Medicine, the academic director, and the clinical and program coordinators) considering the public health importance of the condition and its ability to include learning objectives from a maximum number of subjects. The learning objectives are decided by individual departments and finalized after the meeting of the core group. There are two student coordinators for each seminar and an evaluation group evaluates each seminar and presenter. Correlation seminars help students revise the organ system covered and understand its clinical importance, promote teamwork and organization, and supports active learning. Correlation seminars should be considered as a learning modality by other medical schools.
