Ectopic kidney is a rare congenital anomaly which occurs in approximately 1 in 1,000 live births. Intrathoracic kidney is the rarest type of the ectopic kidney, which constitutes < 5% of all ectopic kidney cases. It is often associated with congenital diaphragmatic hernia, which can cause severe respiratory distress. However, most patients with intrathoracic kidney are asymptomatic, and incidentally diagnosed with prenatal ultrasonography or chest radiography after birth as intrathoracic mass-like lesion. In this study, we report a case of an asymptomatic neonate with intrathoracic kidney. An intrathoracic mass was detected in plain chest radiography of a 17-day-old boy, and it was identified as the right kidney in the thoracic cavity by computed tomography and ultrasonography.Correction of the ectopic kidney and repair of diaphragmatic hernia were successful at the age of 52 days. After the operation, the right kidney was normally detected in the right renal fossa, and there was no recurrence of diaphragmatic hernia. To the best of our knowledge, the present case is the only reported case of intrathoracic kidney at the neonatal period, in South Korea. Careful review of chest radiography at the neonatal period and clinical suspicion of rare diseases like herniation of intraabdominal organ are needed.

Purpose: This study aimed to develop a Korean version of the frailty model that reflects a holistic perspective. There were three phases of the study: a literature review, a two-round Delphi study, and a public hearing. Methods: The model was developed based on the middle-range theory generation approach proposed by Roy. A literature search was conducted, and a review of 36 studies on frailty involving Koreans led to the development of an initial frailty model. A two-round Delphi study was then conducted with nine experts to evaluate the appropriateness of the model. The revised model was presented at a public hearing to achieve consensus. Based on feedback indicating the need for improved visualization, a finalized diagrammatic model was developed. Results: The final frailty model comprised four domains, seven subdomains, and 30 items. It included specific items reflecting the distinctive characteristics of Korean culture, such as relationships with adult children (filial piety), nutritional status (consumption of red meat), and type of residential building. Conclusion The final frailty model provides a comprehensive perspective on the factors contributing to frailty, their interactions, and the potential interventions that healthcare providers can implement to prevent frailty.

Purpose: This study analyzed and evaluated qualitative studies of nurses' experiences with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to understand their awareness and develop effective strategies. Methods: This study used an integrated literature review method developed by Whittemore and Knafl (2005). The scope of the literature search was broad and encompassed qualitative research exploring the experiences of nurses involved in CPR in hospitals.This search was conducted on March 27, 2023. For domestic literature, databases such as KOREAMed, KMBASE, and RISS were used, while foreign literature was sourced from PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, and COCHRANE databases. Results: After careful analysis, nine relevant literature pieces were selected, leading to the derivation of four key themes: “Perception of CPR,” “Positive Experiences during CPR,” “Barriers Impacting CPR Execution,” and “Strategies for Enhancing CPR Effectiveness.” Conclusion To positively reinforce the CPR experiences of nurses, it is necessary to establish educational programs and debriefings that reflect situations for effective coping with sufficient consideration of the medical environment of individual hospitals. Future research should consider comparative analyses of nurses' CPR experiences based on cultural factors and their respective working departments to identify areas for improvement.

This study examined the variability in the length of stay (LOS) and daily medical expenses (DME) for hypertension and pneumonia inpatient care. Using 10 years of National Health Insurance Service data (2010–2019), a multilevel analysis assessed variability at the patient and institutional levels. During the study period, the mean LOS decreased, whereas the DME increased for both hypertension and pneumonia. Institutional level variability in the LOS increased during the study period, demonstrating greater variability than that for pneumonia. For both conditions, institutional-level variability was more marked in smaller institutions (hospitals and clinics) than in larger institutions (general and tertiary hospitals).These findings indicate a need for standardized healthcare service protocols to promote consistent and efficient patient care.
