1.Effects of acute stress on cognitive inhibition and response inhibition in college students

Objective:To explore the effects of real-life acute stress on cognitive inhibition and response inhi-bition in college students.Methods:Totally 40 interviewees in the National Postgraduate Entrance Examination were recruited and they were asked to complete the Flanker task and Go/Nogo dual-task immediately after the interview(stress condition)and 7 months after the interview(control condition)respectively.The current stress level was as-sessed with the Self-reported Stress Scale and State Anxiety Inventory.Results:The self-reported stress scores(P<0.001),and state anxiety scores(P<0.01)were higher under stress condition than under control condition.In the Flanker task,the reaction time of the incongruent trials was faster under stress condition than under control condi-tion,and the Flanker effect was lower under stress condition than under control condition(Ps<0.05).For the probe stimuli in the Go/Nogo dual task,the reaction time of Nogo-probes and probe Go/Nogo effect was higherunder stress condition than under control condition(Ps<0.05).Conclusion:Acute stress in real life might enhance the cognitive inhibition of distractor but impair the inhibition of incorrect response in college students.
2.Co-occurrence of t(8;21)(q22;q22) and t(9;22)(q34;q11) in a case with chronic myelogenous leukemia.

OBJECTIVE:
To delineate laboratory and clinical characteristics of a case with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) and co-occurrence of t(9;22)(q34;q11) and t(8;21)(q22;q22).
METHODS:
The patient was subjected to cytogenetic, molecular, morphological and immunophenotypic analyses.
RESULTS:
Cytogenetic analysis revealed presence of t(8;21)(q22;q22) in addition to t(9;22)(q34;q11) in the patient. Chimeric BCR/ABL and AML1/ETO genes were detected by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). Transcripts of BCR/ABL210 and AML1/ETO fusion genes were detected by relative quantity PCR. Morphological study suggested that the patient was at the chronic phase of CML. No significant immunophenotypic abnormality was detected by flow cytometry.
CONCLUSION
Co-occurrence of t(8;21)(q22;q22) and t(9;22)(q34;q11) is rare in CML. Only 5 similar cases have been described previously. This case suggested that chromosomal alterations may precede morphological, flow cytometric and clinical changes and accelerate progression of the disease.

3.The usage of comprehensive geriatric assessment in elderly patients with acute myeloid leukemia: a multicenter, prospective study.

Objective: To evaluate the feasibility and potential value of comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) in elderly (≥60 years) patients with newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in China. Methods: The CGA results of 83 newly diagnosed AML (non-APL) patients from 16 hospitals in Beijing and Tianjin between March 2016 and December 2017 were prospectively collected and analyzed. The clinical data, treatment and follow-up information were also collected. Results: Of 83 newly diagnosed elderly AML patients, 81 patients (97.6%) completed all designated CGA assessment. The median number of impaired scales of the CGA assessment in the studied population was 2(0-6). Sixteen patients (19.3%) showed no impairments according to the geriatric assessment scales implem ented by this study. The distributions of impaired scales were as follows: impairment in ADL, 55.4%; IADL impairment, 42.2%; MNA-SF impairment, 48.2%; cognitive impairment, 15.7%; GDS impairment, 31.7%; HCT-CI impairment, 19.5%, respectively. In patients with "good" ECOG (n=46), the proportion of impairment for each CGA scale ranged from 6.5% to 37.0% and 32 patients (68.9%) had at least one impaired CGA scale. Survival analysis showed that the number of impaired scales of the CGA was significantly correlated with median overall survival (P=0.050). Conclusions: CGA was a tool with feasibility for the comprehensive evaluation in elderly AML patients in China. Combined with age and ECOG, CGA may be more comprehensive in assessing patients' physical condition.

4.Extracorporeal Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation in Children of Asia Pacific: A Retrospective Analysis of Extracorporeal Life Support Organization Registry.

BackgroundRecent advances in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) have led to increasing interest in its use during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). However, decisions regarding extracorporeal CPR (ECPR) in children are difficult as a result of limited studies, especially in Asia Pacific. The objective of this study was to investigate trends in survival and demographic details for children with ECPR in Asia Pacific recorded in the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) registry from 1999 to 2016 and identify the risk factors associated with in-hospital mortality.
MethodsThe data of children younger than 18 years of age who received ECPR over the past 18 years in Asia Pacific were retrospectively analyzed. The data were extracted from the ELSO registry and divided into two 9-year groups (Group 1: 1999-2007 and Group 2: 2008-2016) to assess temporal changes using univariate analysis. Then, univariate and multiple logistic regression analyses were performed between survivors and nonsurvivors to identify factors independently associated with in-hospital mortality.
ResultsA total of 321 children were included in final analysis, with an overall survival rate of 50.8%. Although survival rates were similar between Group 1 and Group 2 (43.1% vs. 52.5%, χ = 1.67, P = 0.196), the median age (1.7 [0.3, 19.2] months for Group 1 vs. 5.6 [0.8, 64.9] months for Group 2, t = -2.93, P = 0.003) and weight (3.7 [3.0, 11.5] kg for Group 1 vs. 6.0 [3.4, 20.3] kg for Group 2, t = -3.14, P = 0.002) of children increased over time, while the proportion of congenital heart disease (75.9% for Group 1 vs. 57.8% for Group 2, χ = 6.52, P = 0.011) and cardiogenic shock (36.2% for Group 1 vs. 7.2% for Group 2, χ = 36.59, P < 0.001) decreased. Patient conditions before ECMO were worse, while ECMO complications decreased across time periods, especially renal complications. Multiple logistic regression analysis of ECMO complications showed that disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), myocardial stunning, and neurological complications were independently associated with increased odds of hospital mortality.
ConclusionsThe broader indications and decreased complication rates make EPCR to be applicated more and more extensive in children in Asia Pacific region. ECMO complications such as myocardial stunning are independently associated with decreased survival.

5.Magnetic Resonance Venography Findings of Obstructed Hepatic Veins and the Inferior Vena Cava in Patients with Budd-Chiari Syndrome.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to illustrate the magnetic resonance venography (MRV) manifestations of obstructed hepatic veins (HVs), the inferior vena cava (IVC), and accessory hepatic veins (AHVs) in patients with Budd-Chiari syndrome (BCS) and to evaluate the visualization capacity of MRV in the diagnosis of BCS. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifty-two patients with chronic BCS were included in this study. All patients were examined via MRV performed with a 3T system following injections of gadolinium-diethylene triamine pentaacetic acid (Gd-DTPA) or Gd-ethoxibenzyl-DTPA. HV and IVC lesions were classified, and their characteristics were described. HV cord-like occlusions detected via MRV were compared using ultrasonography (US). Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) was performed as a contrast in the MRV detection of IVC lesions. The HVs draining collaterals, mainly AHVs, were carefully observed. HV lesions were classified as segmental stenosis, segmental occlusion, membranous stenosis, membranous occlusion, cord-like occlusion, or non-visualized. Except for patent IVCs, IVC lesions were classified as segmental occlusion, segmental stenosis, membranous occlusion, membranous stenosis, and hepatomegaly-induced stenosis. RESULTS: All patients (52/52, 100%) showed HV lesions of different degrees. MRV was inferior to US in detecting cord-like occlusions (6 vs. 19, χ2 = 11.077, p < 0.001). Dilated AHVs, including 50 (50/52, 96.2%) caudate lobe veins and 37 (37/52, 71.2%) inferior HV and AHV lesions, were well-detected. There were no significant differences in detecting segmental lesions and thrombosis between MRV and DSA (χ2 = 0.000, p1 = 1.000, p2 = 1.000). The capacity of MRV to detect membranous lesions was inferior to that of DSA (7 vs. 15, χ2 = 6.125, p = 0.013). CONCLUSION: In patients with BCS, MRV can clearly display the lesions in HVs and the IVC, as well as in AHVs, and it has diagnostic and therapeutic value.

6.The effect of combination of moxibustion and joint auricular acupuncture on insomnia by liver diseases

Objective To observe thecurative effect of moxibustion with plum blossom and ginger combined with auricular ap-plication pressure on insomnia by liver disease.Methods 80 patients with liver diseases-induced insomnia were randomly divided in-to two groups:the treatment group and control group,40 cases in each group.The treatment group was treated with the plum blossom and ginger moxibustion combined with auricular application pressure and the control group with auricular application pressure only.The two groups were compared in terms of curative effect two weeks after treatment. Result The curative effect of treatment group was signifi-cantly better than that of the control group (P<0.05).Conclusion Plum blossom and ginger moxibustion combined with auricular ap-plication pressure is effective in the treatment of liver diseases-induced insomniais.
7.Effects of high blood glucose fluctuation on DNA damage of diabetic rat retinal tissues

AIM:To observe the situation of rat retinal tissue DNA damage at early diabetic period, discuss the role of the blood glucose fluctuations, and provide a new method for studying the pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy ( DR) .
METHODS: SD rats were randomly divided into four groups:normal control group (NC), normal fluctuation group ( NF ) , diabetes group ( DM ) and diabetes fluctuation group ( DF ) . Diabetic models were established through intraperitoneal injection of STZ. A certain amount of glucose was injected in the rats of group NF and DF in an intraperitoneal mode three times a day after the model was established, thereby causing blood glucose fluctuations. Rats were killed and the retinal tissues were taken in the 8th week. Single cell gel electrophoresis ( SCGE ) technique was adopted for detecting DNA injury extent in the retina tissue.
RESULTS:Groups NF and DF showed significant and regular fluctuations. The curve of blood glucose fluctuations was relatively stable. All values of MBG, SDBG, LAGE and M were significantly increased compared with group NC. Group DF was increased more significantly. It was statistically significant (P<0. 01). SCGE showed that there were DNA damages in different levels in the cells of group NF, DM and DF. Indicators of cells such as TL, TDNA %, TM, OTM were higher than that in group NC. It was statistically significant ( P<0-01). The comparison difference between two groups was also significant (P<0. 01).
CONCLUSION: Rat retinal tissues have DNA injury during early diabetic period. DNA injury is gradually aggravated with blood glucose fluctuation. It indicates that high blood glucose and blood glucose fluctuation are involved in the mechanism of cell DNA injury, and they may be one of DR early event, have played a certain role in the incidence of DR.
