Objective:To investigate the radiologic, pathologic, and molecular features of simple bone cysts (SBC), and their differential diagnoses. Methods:Fourteen cases of SBC were collected at the Department of Pathology, the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from 2017 to 2022, and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) was performed for retrospective analysis. Results:There were 14 patients, including 7 females and 7 males, with age range of 7 to 45 (median 29) years. The most common complaint was pain, including 4 cases with pathological fracture and 5 with history of previous trauma. The tumor size ranged from 3.4 to 13.5 (median 5.6) cm. The lesion involved the femur ( n=4), humerus ( n=5) and iliac bone ( n=5). Radiologic diagnoses included SBC, aneurysmal bone cyst, and giant cell tumor of the bone or its combination with aneurysmal bone cyst-like region and fibrous dysplasia. Histologically, the cyst walls of the lesions were composed of fibrous tissue, fibrin-like collagen deposits, bone-like matrix and occasional woven bone. The lesional cells were spindled to ovoid, with scattered osteoclast-like giant cells, foamy histiocytes, hemosiderin deposits and cholesterol clefts. In 6 cases there were nodular fasciitis-like areas. Immunohistochemically, the spindled to ovoid cells were positive for SMA, EMA and SATB2 in varying degrees. FISH detection was performed in all 14 cases and EWSR1/FUS rearrangement were found in 9 cases. One case of FUS::NFATC2 fusion was detected by next-generation sequencing. Nine cases of SBC with the rearrangement were more cellular, and there were more mitotic figures in the recurrent FUS::NFATC2 fusion tumor. Clinical follow-up was obtained in all 14 cases with the time ranging from 5 to 105 (mean 46) months. Amongst them, the tumor with FUS::NFATC2 rearrangement had local recurrence twice after the first local excision, but had no more recurrence or metastasis 34 months after the subsequent segmental resection. The other 13 cases had no recurrence. Conclusions:EWSR1 or FUS rearrangement is most commonly identified in SBC, suggesting that SBC might be a neoplastic disease. In cases where the radiologic appearance and histomorphology are difficult to differentiate from aneurysmal bone cyst, FISH detection can aid in the definitive diagnosis.

Objective:
To investigate the clinicopathological features, diagnosis and differential diagnosis of dedifferentiated liposarcoma (DDLPS) with inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT)-like features.
Methods:
Five cases of DDLPS with IMT-like features were collected from the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, the Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the First People′s Hospital of Qinzhou between 2013 and 2018. EnVision method and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) were used to detect the immunophenotype of the tumor cells and the profile of MDM2 gene amplification respectively.
Results:
All five cases were male and the median age was 61 (range 53 to 65) years. The clinical symptoms were mainly related to the space-occupying lesions. The tumors were located in duodenal mesentery (two cases), intestinal wall (one case), retroperitoneum (one case), and spermatic cord (one case). Grossly, the tumors were not well encapsulated, ranging from 3 to 13 cm (median 6.7 cm) in diameter, with tan to gray and firm cut surface. Histologically, the dedifferentiated component closely resembled inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT), with spindle/polygonal/stellate-shaped cells arranged in storiform, sheet-like, or random pattern, with varying degrees of chronic inflammation and fibrosis. All three major patterns seen in IMT (myxoid, cellular and hypocellular fibrous) were observed, the hypocellular fibrous pattern was the most common. Well-differentiated liposarcomatous component was found in the peripheral areas of all the tumors. One case had high grade dedifferentiated component. Four cases were strongly positive for MDM2 and p16. Two cases were positive for SMA, and one case was focally positive for desmin and one for CD34. None of the cases stained for ALK-1. FISH demonstrated MDM2 gene amplification in all five cases. Clinical follow-ups were available in all five cases and the interval ranged from 3 to 66 months (median 23 months). Two patients developed recurrences and one patient had metastasis. The remaining two patients were alive with no evidence of tumor recurrence at 3 and 14 months after surgery respectively.
Conclusions
DDLPS with IMT-like features is a more aggressive neoplasm than its histological mimic (IMT), and should not be misdiagnosed as other intermediate or low-grade malignant tumors, such as IMT, sclerosing liposarcoma, inflammatory liposarcoma, aggressive fibromatosis, solitary fibrous tumors, low-grade myofibroblastic sarcoma, and low-grade fibrosarcoma.

[ ABSTRACT] AIM:To explore the role of Huoxue Jiangzhi Recipe in preventing and treating fatty liver in mice and its underlying mechanisms.METHODS:Healthy Kunming mice were fed with high-fat diet and treated intragastrically with different doses of Huoxue Jiangzhi Recipe ( compound of ginseng, panax notoginseng and rhizoma gastrodiae, named as GST) for 2 weeks. The levels of blood lipids and triglyceride ( TG) in hepatic tissues were measured.Meanwhile, liver in-dex and hepatic pathology were observed. The optimized dosage of Huoxue Jiangzhi Recipe was determined by the experi-ments.The mice were divided into normal control group ( NC group, fed with normal diet) and model group ( fed with high-fat diet) .The model mice were subdivided into 3 subgroups 12 weeks later:HF group ( fed continuously with high-fat di-et) , ND group ( fed with normal diet) , GSL group ( fed with normal diet and treated intragastrically with GSL) .The mice in NC, HF and ND groups were given distilled water by gastric perfusion. Two weeks later, all mice were killed, and blood was collected for measuring serum total cholesterol (TC),TG,high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol ( LDL-C) contents, hepatic TC, TG, malondialdehyde ( MDA ) levels and superoxide dismutase ( SOD) activity were detected. Moreover, liver index and hepatic pathology were also observed. The mRNA expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα) and cytochrome-P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) in the liver was examined by RT-PCR.RESULTS:GST significantly decreased serum lipid, hepatic lipid and MDA levels and elevated SOD activi-
ty.Furthermore, GST markedly reduced liver index, improved hepatic adipose infiltration, increased PPARαmRNA ex-pression and inhibited CYP2E1 mRNA expression.CONCLUSION:GST is effective in the treatment of fatty liver in mice by up-regulating PPARα, thus reducing serum and hepatic TG levels, down-regulating CYP2E1 and inhibiting lipid peroxi-dation.

OBJECTIVETo study the clinicopathologic characteristics and diagnostic criteria of interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma/tumor (IDCS/T).
METHODSThe clinical features, histologic findings and results of immunohistochemical study in six cases of IDCS/T were analyzed, with review of literature.
RESULTSThe age of patients ranged from 20 to 68 years. The sites of involvement included lymph node, tonsil and soft tissue. Histologically, the tumor cells were arranged in sheets, fascicles or whorls and intimately admixed with abundant lymphocytes and plasma cells. They were oval to spindly in shape and contained pale eosinophilic cytoplasm, oval nuclei and distinct nucleoli.Immunohistochemical study showed that the tumor cells were positive for S-100 protein and CD68.
CONCLUSIONSIDCS/T is a rare malignant tumor with poor prognosis. It carries distinctive histologic pattern and immunophenotype. The entity needs to be distinguished from follicular dendritic cell sarcoma/tumor, anaplastic large cell lymphoma and other spindle cell sarcomas in occurring soft tissue.

China Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Pharmacy 2006;0(09):-
According to the unique geographical conditions, climatic factors, human constitution, dietary custom, social environment and so on,the main etiology of exogenous cough in Lingnan areas is pathogenic dampness;and the main pathogenesis is phlegm-dampness internal retention and impaired and descending of lung. The syndrome of phlegm-dampness and syndrome of phlegm-heat are more common clinical types. We propose eliminating dampness and resolving phlegm, dispersing and descending lung qi as its main therapeutic methods. For chronic cough,it often have to take the therapeutic methods of strengthening spleen and nourishing lung.

BACKGROUND: Bone marrow inhibition is a predominant side effect caused by the drugs for anti-tumor.OBJECTIVE: To observe the intervention effect of traditional Chinese medicine qiongyugao on bone marrow inhibition induced by chemotherapy in experimental mice with pulmonary adenocarcinoma.DESIGN: Randomized controlled trial.SETTING: Medical College of Jinan University.MATERIALS: The experiment was completed in the Central Laboratory of Medical College of Jinan University from March to October in 2001. Fortyeight healthy, aged 6 to 8 weeks C57/BL mice were involved.METHODS: The mouse model with pulmonary adenocareinoma was made with the method of inoculability of cancer cell, and then the models were group: On the following day of inoculation, 0.2 mL normal saline was used by gavage, and normal saline was injected intraperitoneally at the dosage of amine 20 mg was diluted into 0.2 g/L with normal saline, and performed intraperitoneal injection at the dosage of 5 μL/g, once per day, and 0.2 mL platinum diamine was used as in chemotherapy group and 0.2 mL qiongyugao was administered by gavage at the same time once per day. Peripheral erythrocyte, leukocyte and blood platelet, and karyota in bone marrow counting were detected on the 21 days after administration.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Peripheral erythrocyte, leukocyte and blood platelet, and karyota in bone marrow counting of the mice in each group.RESULTS: Eleven mice failing to have tumor in tumor assessment were excluded from the sample, including 3 in the control group, 4 in the chemotherapy and 4 in the combination group. During the experiment, there were 2 mice dying in each group of the control group and chemotherapy group. Totally 11 mice in the control group, 10 in the chemotherapy group and 11 in the combination group entered the result analysis. Erythrocyte, leukocyte and blood platelets in the combination group and control group were all significantly higher than those in the chemotherapy group [erythrocyte: (8.54 ±0.81 ), (8.65 ±0.77), (4.56 ±1.00) ×1012 L -1;leukocyte:(9.04 ±0.60), (9.14 ±0.71), (3.31 ±0.96) ×109 L -1;blood platelets:(949.09±111.31 ), (955.54±87.13), (399.30±131.36)× 109 L-1 ,P < 0.01]. The number of karyota in bone marrow in the chemotherapy group was significantly lower than those in the combination group and control group [(5.30±1.12),(10.51±1.15),(14.36±1.02)]×106,P < 0.01); while the number of karyota in the control group was higher than that in the combination group (P < 0.05).CONCLUSION: Qiongyugao can enhance the counting of erythrocyte, leucocyte, blood platelets of peripheral blood and karyota in bone marrow after chemotherapy in mice with pulmonary carcinoma, improve the inhibition of bone marrow induced by chemotherapy, but can not reverse it completely.
