AIM: To evaluate the accuracy of the formulas, including Haigis, SRK/T, Holladay 1, and Holladay 2, in predicting the diopter of the intraocular lens implanted in high myopia cataract patients.METHODS: Prospective study. A total of 168 cases(168 eyes)of age-related cataract with an axial length(AL)≥26 mm who were treated in our hospital from August 2017 to November 2021 were selected. According to the preoperative AL measured by IOL Master 700, the patients were divided into five groups, including 37 cases(37 eyes)in group A with 26 mm≤AL<27 mm, 34 cases(34 eyes)in group B with 27 mm≤AL<28 mm, 42 cases(42 eyes)in group C with 28 mm≤AL<29 mm, 28 cases(28 eyes)in group D with 29 mm≤AL<30 mm, and 27 patients(27 eyes)in group E with AL ≥ 30 mm. Subjective refraction was performed at 3 mo postoperatively, and the mean numerical error(MNE)and mean absolute error(MAE)of each formula for predicting diopters were calculated.RESULTS: The MNE and MAE of the Haigis and Holladay 2 formulas were relatively less in each group, and MNE and MAE did not significantly increase with the growth of the axial length. However, the MAE and MNE of the SRK/T and Holladay 1 formulas significantly increased with the growth of the axial length, with the MNE and MAE of the Holladay 1 formula increasing more significantly in groups C, D, and E.CONCLUSION: For patients with age-related cataract, with an axial length of ≥26 mm, the accuracy of predicting the diopter of the intraocular lens using the Haigis and Holladay 2 formulas were higher.

Polycomb group (PcG) ring finger protein 6 (PCGF6), though known as a member of the transcription-repressing complexes, PcG, also has activation function in regulating pluripotency gene expression. However, the mechanism underlying the activation function of PCGF6 is poorly understood. Here, we found that PCGF6 co-localizes to gene activation regions along with pluripotency factors such as OCT4. In addition, PCGF6 was recruited to a subset of the super-enhancer (SE) regions upstream of cell cycle-associated genes by OCT4, and increased their expression. By combining with promoter capture Hi-C data, we found that PCGF6 activates cell cycle genes by regulating SE-promoter interactions via 3D chromatin. Our findings highlight a novel mechanism of PcG protein in regulating pluripotency, and provide a research basis for the therapeutic application of pluripotent stem cells.

The reuse of high-cost single-use medical devices (SUD) is permitted in many countries, such as the United States, Germany and the United Kingdom, but strict regulatory requirements must be met. In addition to regulatory policies and regulations, such as market access mode and special requirements on Good Manufacture Practice (GMP), there are strict technical requirements on the potential risk control and quality assurance system. Therefore, effective risk assessment and risk control technology are the keys to ensure effective quality control and safe use of SUDs. In this article, based on analyzing the technological requirements of the national regulatory on SUDs in the United States, Germany and Britain, and combined with the review from latest relevant literature, to discuss the strategies of how to carry out scientific risk assessment. Some risk control technologies on the reuse of SUDs are introduced, which will provide support for the further study on risk control strategies and regulatory decisions for the reuse of SUDs in China.

Objective To evaluate the application value of F wave by comparison with quantitative sensory testing(QST)and nerve conduction studies(NCS)in diabetes peripheral neuropathy (DPN). Methods Three hundred and fourteen diabetic patients with symptom of DPN were retrospectively analyzed, who were recruited and divided into four groups according the course of diabetes mellitus: ≤ 3 years group, 4-6 years group, 7-9 years group and >9 years group. The abnormal rates of QST, NCS and F wave were analyzed and compared. Results At earlier course of disease (≤ 3 years group, 4- 6 years group), the abnormal rate of QST [76.54%(62/81), 91.67% (88/96)]>F wave[(48.15%(39/81),64.58%(62/96)]>NCS[(32.10%(26/81),47.92%(46/96)], and there were significant differences(P<0.01).The abnormal rate of QST, F wave and NCS at 7-9 years group and>9 years group had no significant differences(P>0.05).The abnormal rate of QST in 4-6 years group[(91.67%(88/96)]was higher than that in≤3 years group[(76.54%(62/81)],and decreased in 7-9 years group and >9 years group. The abnormal rate of NCS was increased with course of disease, and the range was obviously between close together group. The abnormal rate of F wave was increased with course of disease, but in 4-6 years group the range was obvious and the range was slow down.At earlier course of disease (≤3 years group, 4-6 years group), the abnormal rate of only F wave significantly increased the abnormal rate of NCS + F wave from 30.86%(25/81), 44.79% (43/96)to 46.91%(38/81), 61.46%(59/96)respectively, but in 7-9 years group and>9 years group, the abnormal rate of only F wave increased the abnormal rate of NCS + F wave from 69.44%(50/72), 84.61%(55/65)to 72.22% (52/72),86.15%(56/65).Conclusions Although the abnormal rate of F wave is not as high as QST, it is still remarkable. Detection of F wave shows positive correlations with the course of disease, which can reflect the course of disease objectively and reliably. The added F wave detection can distinctly raise the abnormal rates on the base of NCS.

Background and objective hTe solitary pulmonary nodule (SPN) is a common and challenging clini-cal problem, especially solid SPN. hTe object of this study was to explore the predictive factors of SPN appearing as pure solid with malignance and to establish a clinical prediction model of solid SPNs.Methods We had a retrospective review of 317 sol-id SPNs (group A) having a ifnal diagnosis in the department of thoracic surgery, Shanghai Chest Hospital from January 2015 to December 2015, and analyzed their clinical data and computed tomography (CT) images, including age, gender, smoking history, family history of cancer, previous cancer history, diameter of nodule, nodule location (upper lobe or non-upper lobe, letf or right), clear border, smooth margin, lobulation, spiculation, vascular convergence, pleural retraction sign, air broncho-gram sign, vocule sign, cavity and calciifcation. By using univariate and multivariate analysis, we found the independent predic-tors of malignancy of solid SPNs and subsequently established a clinical prediction model. hTen, another 139 solid SPNs with a final diagnosis were chosen in department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Affiliated Zhoushan Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University as group B, and used to verify the accuracy of the prediction model. Receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curves were constructed using the prediction model. Results MultivariateLogistic regression analysis was used to identify eight clini-cal characteristics (age, family history of cancer, previous cancer history, clear border, lobulation, spiculation, air bronchogram sign, calciifcation) as independent predictors of malignancy of in solid SPNs. hTe area under the ROC curve for our model (0.922; 95%CI: 0.865-0.961). In our model, diagnosis accuration rate was 84.89%. Sensitivity was 90.41%, and speciifcity was 78.79%, and positive predictive value was 80.50%, and negative predictive value was 88.14%.Conclusion Our prediction model could accurately identify malignancy in patients with solid SPNs, thereby it can provide help for diagnosis of solid SPNs.
