1.Study on the status of turnover intention and its influencing factors of 382 hemato-oncology nurses.

Objective: To explore the status of turnover intention and its influencing factors of hemato-oncology nurses. Methods: From September to November 2021, the convenience sampling method was used to select 382 hemato-oncology nurses from 8 tertiary grade A general hospitals in Shandong Province. The general information questionnaire, the Chinese Nurses' Work Stressor Scale, the Psychological Capital Questionnaire and the Turnover Intention Questionnaire were used to investigate the general situation, occupational stress, psychological capital and turnover intention of the objects. The correlations between the turnover intention, occupational stress and psychological capital of the objects were analyze by Pearson correlation. And the multiple linear regression was used to analyze the influencing factors of turnover intention. A structural equation model was used to analyze the effect path of occupational stress and psychological capital on turnover intention. Results: The total turnover intention score of hemato-oncology nurses was (14.25±4.03), with the average item score of (2.38±0.67). The occupational stress score of hemato-oncology nurses was (71.57±14.43), and the psychological capital score was (91.96±15.29). The results of correlation analysis showed that the turnover intention of hemato-oncology nurses was positively correlated with occupational stress, and was negatively correlated with psychological capital (r=0.599, -0.489, P<0.001). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that married (β=-0.141), psychological capital (β=-0.156) and occupational stress (β=0.493) were the influencing factors of turnover intention of hemato-oncology nurses (P<0.05). The path analysis of structural equation model showed that the direct effect of occupational stress on turnover intention of hemato-oncology nurses was 0.522, and the intermediary effect of psychological capital on turnover intention was 0.143 (95%CI: 0.013-0.312, P<0.05), accounting for 21.5% of the total effect. Conclusion: The turnover intention of hemato-oncology nurses is at a high level, hospital and administrators should focus on the psychological state of unmarried nurses. By improving the psychological capital of nurses, to reduce occupational stress and turnover intention.

2.Prevalence and correlates of psychological distress and coronavirus anxiety among hospital essential services workers in Singapore.

INTRODUCTION:
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected almost all populations, with frontline workers experiencing a higher risk of mental health effects compared to other groups. Although there are several research studies focusing on the mental health effects of the pandemic on healthcare workers, there is little research about its impact on workers in outsourced hospital essential services. This study aims to examine the prevalence and correlates of psychological distress and coronavirus anxiety among staff working in 3 outsourced hospital essential services-housekeeping, porter service and maintenance services.
METHODS:
A cross-sectional study was conducted among outsourced hospital essential services workers in a tertiary hospital. Data on demographics, medical history, lifestyle factors, psychosocial factors and mental well-being were collected using self-administered questionnaires. Robust logistic regression was used to determine risk factors associated with psychological distress and dysfunctional anxiety related to COVID-19.
RESULTS:
A total of 246 hospital essential services workers participated in the study. The prevalence of psychological distress was 24.7%, and dysfunctional anxiety related to COVID-19 was 13.4%. Social support and workplace support were found to be independently associated with a lower risk of psychological distress, and social connectivity was associated with a lower risk of dysfunctional anxiety related to COVID-19.
CONCLUSION
These findings highlight the crucial roles of communities and workplaces in combating the mental health consequences of the pandemic. Public health programmes that aim to tackle the emerging mental health crisis in hospital essential services workers should incorporate strategies to address psychosocial factors, in addition to traditional self-care approaches.

3.Psychosocial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on paediatric healthcare workers.

INTRODUCTION:
Frontline healthcare workers (HCWs) exposed to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are at risk of psychological distress. This study evaluates the psychological impact of COVID-19 pandemic on HCWs in a national paediatric referral centre.
METHODS:
This was a survey-based study that collected demographic, work environment and mental health data from paediatric HCWs in the emergency, intensive care and infectious disease units. Psychological impact was measured using the Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scale-21. Multivariate regression analysis was performed to identify risk factors associated with psychological distress.
RESULTS:
The survey achieved a response rate of 93.9% (430 of 458). Of the 430 respondents, symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress were reported in 168 (39.1%), 205 (47.7%) and 106 (24.7%), respectively. Depression was reported in the mild (47, 10.9%), moderate (76, 17.7%), severe (23, 5.3%) and extremely severe (22, 5.1%) categories. Anxiety (205, 47.7%) and stress (106, 24.7%) were reported in the mild category only. Collectively, regression analysis identified female sex, a perceived lack of choice in work scope/environment, lack of protection from COVID-19, lack of access to physical activities and rest, the need to perform additional tasks, and the experience of stigma from the community as risk factors for poor psychological outcome.
CONCLUSION
A high prevalence of depression, anxiety and stress was reported among frontline paediatric HCWs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Personal psychoneuroimmunity and organisational prevention measures can be implemented to lessen psychiatric symptoms. At the national level, involving mental health professionals to plan and coordinate psychological intervention for the country should be considered.

4.Psychological status of the staff in a general hospital during the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 and its influential factors.

OBJECTIVES:
To understand the psychological status of the staff in a general hospital during the coronavirus disease 2019 and its influential factors, and to provide references for the mental health services to hospital staff.
METHODS:
Using star platform of questionnaire, the staff in the general hospital were investigated via Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scale (DASS-21), Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS) and Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire (SCSQ). The influential factors were discussed by descriptive analysis, rank sum test, single factor analysis, correlation analysis and multiple factors binary logistic regression analysis.
RESULTS:
A total of 2 060 valid questionnaires were collected. The negative emotions of nurses and cleaners were the most obvious. The depression scores, anxiety scores and stress scores for nurses and cleaners were 5.06±7.47, 6.36±7.84, 9.75±8.65, and 6.72±8.84, 4.51±6.56, 9.69±9.56, respectively. Multivariate binary logistic regression analysis showed that staff types, education levels, job status, economic situation and concerns on the supplies of protective goods were the main influential factors for depression; staff types, contacting status with infected patients, economic situation, concerns on the supplies of protective goods, history of disease were the main influential factors for anxiety; contacting status with infected patients, economic situation, concerns on the supplies of protective goods were the main influential factors for stress.
CONCLUSIONS
There are differences in psychological characteristics among different groups of staff in the general hospital under the outbreak. Thus psychological protection and intervention measures should be formulated according to different groups and work status.

5.Enhanced recovery after surgery in the west China: problems, strategy and future.

Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) has been widely used in the world for near 20 years, which should be considered as the milestone of modern medicine advancement, changing the routine perioperative principle, accelerating the recovery speed following operation, minimizing the postoperative pain, and saving the medical resources. Despite the remarkable advance, the quality and application of ERAS in the west China needs further improvement if compared with international level or even some domestic hospitals. The postoperative hospital stay in west China is much longer than the reported 3 to 5 days according to published references. Several suggestions can be help: (1) Based on the published consensus and the successful experiences of ERAS in colorectal surgery, the medical institution should make great effort to extend this technique to change the profound traditional idea in medical staffs and patients. (2) The medical administrations should take the application of ERAS as a key performance index and annual work plan in hospital. (3) Multiple disciplinary team including anesthetist, surgeon, dietitian, and nurses is essential for hospital to promote the quality of ERAS. Undoubtedly, ERAS is going to be the conventional medical care in the western area of China. We may look forward to seeing more researches from western China to update the ERAS consensus.

6.Influence of Nurse Managers' Authentic Leadership on Nurses' Organizational Commitment and Job Satisfaction: Focused on the Mediating Effects of Empowerment.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to examine the mediating effect of empowerment in the relationship of nurse managers' authentic leadership, with nurses' organizational commitment and job satisfaction. METHODS: The participants in this study were 273 registered nurses working in five University hospitals located in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. The measurements included the Authentic Leadership Questionnaire, Condition of Work Effectiveness Questionnaire-II, Organizational Commitment Questionnaire and Korea-Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test, Pearson correlation coefficients, simple and multiple regression techniques with the SPSS 18.0 program. Mediation analysis was performed according to the Baron and Kenny method and Sobel test. RESULTS: There were significant correlations among authentic leadership, empowerment, organizational commitment and job satisfaction. Empowerment showed perfect mediating effects in the relationship between authentic leadership and organizational commitment. It had partial mediating effects in the relationship between authentic leadership and job satisfaction. CONCLUSION: In this study, nurse managers' authentic leadership had significant influences on nurses organizational commitment and job satisfaction via empowerment. Therefore, to enhance nurses' organizational commitment and job satisfaction, it is necessary to build effective strategies to enhance nurse manager's authentic leadership and to develop empowering education programs for nurses.

7.Sickness Experiences of Korean Registered Nurses at Work: A Qualitative Study on Presenteeism.

PURPOSE: Presenteeism is a relatively new concept in nursing describing the condition within which registered nurses (RNs) come to work while they are sick. The purpose of this study was to explore and describe presenteeism experiences among RNs in South Korea. METHODS: In this constructivist grounded theory study, a focus group interview (FGI) technique was utilized for data collection. A total of 20 RNs at one hospital in Chuncheon city joined in three different FGIs. Semistructured questions were asked in reference to their sickness experience in the workplace. Data analysis was conducted according to the constructivist grounded theory methodology. RESULTS: All participants had experiences of presenteeism. The overriding theme was "having no caring for nurses leads to losing one's nursing mind". The participants reported that due to either their personal preference or peer pressure they showed up to work, but they felt sad and their pride was hurt by the fact that there was no caring for them from other nurses. This emotional exhaustion often led to the loss of compassion and the resignation of nursing staff. CONCLUSIONS: Care for nurses in the workplace is necessary for RNs to make their presenteeism experience positive and even effective.

8.Relationships between Personal Traits, Emotional Intelligence, Internal Marketing, Service Management, and Customer Orientation in Korean Outpatient Department Nurses.

PURPOSE: Current increase and complexity of medical tests and surgical procedures at outpatient department (OPD) require OPD nurses to have customer orientation focusing on various customers' interests and needs. The purpose of this study was to identify the factors associated with customer orientation in nurses working at OPD of hospitals. METHODS: The study used a descriptive correlational design with cross-sectional survey. The study settings were four general hospitals in Seoul and its metropolitan area. Data were collected from 138 OPD nurses from general hospitals. Study variables were personal traits, emotional intelligence, internal marketing, service management and customer orientation. RESULTS: Factors associated with customer orientation were identified as conscientiousness from personal traits (β .37, p < .001), emotional intelligence from individual characteristics (β .21, p = .032), and internal marketing from environmental characteristics (β .21, p = .001). CONCLUSIONS: Hospital administrators should support OPD nurses to cultivate sincere and sociable personal traits and emotional intelligence, and to consider employees as internal customers to improve patient-oriented services and satisfaction.

9.Relationship between Organizational Culture and Workplace Bullying among Korean Nurses.

PURPOSE: To identify the relationship between organizational culture and experience of workplace bullying among Korean nurses. METHODS: Participants were 298 hospital nurses in Busan, South Korea. We assessed nursing organizational culture and workplace bullying among nurses using structured questionnaires from July 1 through August 15, 2014. RESULTS: Most participants considered their organizational culture as hierarchy-oriented (45.5%), followed by relation-oriented (36.0%), innovation-oriented (10.4%), and task-oriented (8.1%). According to the operational bullying criteria, the prevalence of workplace bullying was 15.8%. A multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that the odds of being a victim of bullying were 2.58 times as high among nurses in a hierarchy-oriented culture as among nurses in a relation-oriented culture [95% confidence interval (1.12, 5.94)]. CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that the types of nursing organizational culture are related to workplace bullying in Korean nurses. Further research is needed to develop interventions that can foster relationoriented cultures to prevent workplace bullying in nurses.

10.Operating Room Nurses' Experiences of Securing for Patient Safety.

PURPOSE: This study was done to evaluate the experience of securing patient safety in hospital operating rooms. METHODS: Experiential data were collected from 15 operating room nurses through in-depth interviews. The main question was "Could you describe your experience with patient safety in the operating room?". Qualitative data from the field and transcribed notes were analyzed using Strauss and Corbin's grounded theory methodology. RESULTS: The core category of experience with patient safety in the operating room was 'trying to maintain principles of patient safety during high-risk surgical procedures'. The participants used two interactional strategies: 'attempt continuous improvement', 'immersion in operation with sharing issues of patient safety'. CONCLUSION: The results indicate that the important factors for ensuring the safety of patients in the operating room are manpower, education, and a system for patient safety. Successful and safe surgery requires communication, teamwork and recognition of the importance of patient safety by the surgical team.
