OBJECTIVE To study the effect and mechanism of sulfotanshinone ⅡA sodium(STS)in human peritoneal mesothelial cells(HPMCs)injury and peritoneal fibrosis caused by lipopolysaccharide-peritoneal dialysis solution(LPS-PDS). METHODS HPMCs was primary cultured from patients undergoing peritoneal surgery. The cells were incubated with LPS-PDS to mimic the peritoneal dialysis conditions in vitro. After treatment of cells with STS,cellular viability was tested and mRNA were collected and subjected to RT-PCR to evaluated the level of TGF-β1,TIMP-1 and MMP-9.RESULTS Incubation HPMCs with LPS-PDS elicited cell injury.STS attenuated LPS-PDS-induced cell injury by improvement of cellular viability. Furthermore,STS inhibited HPMCs fibrosis as evidenced by suppression of TGF-β1 and TIMP1 induced by LPS-PDS and in-creasing MMP-9 mRNA level.CONCLUSION STS protects HPMCs against LPS-PDS-induced cell injury. Moreover,STS re-tards HPMCs fibrosis by decreasing TGF-β1 and TIMP1 mRNA level and increasing MMP-9 mRNA.

The purpose of this study was to develop docetaxel-poly (lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) loaded nanoparticles by using nanoprecipitation method and optimize the relative parameters to obtain nanoparticles with higher encapsulation efficiency and smaller size. The physicochemical characteristics of nanoparticles were studied. The optimized parameters were as follows: the oil phase was mixture of acetone and ethanol, concentration of tocopheryl polyethylene glycol succinate (TPGS) was 0.2%, the ratio of oil phase to water phase was 1:5, and the theoretical drug concentration was 5%. The optimized nanoparticles were spherical with size between 130 and 150 nm. The encapsulation efficiency was (40.83±2.1)%. The in vitro release exhibited biphasic pattern. The results indicate that docetaxel-PLGA nanoparticles were successfully fabricated and may be used as the novel vehicles for docetaxel, which would replace Taxotere® and play great roles in future.

OBJECTIVETo introduce the experience in the treatment of lower eyelid pouches orbital rim.
METHODSAn incision was made along the margin of lower eyelid and dissection was performed under the orbicularis muscle to expose the orbital septum and periosteum of lower orbital rim. The fat released from orbital septum was transposed just below the lower orbital rim and fixed on the periosteum. If lacrimal groove deformity was not corrected completely, the musculocutaneous flap, which may be excised beside the incision, was kept to correct the deformities further with only the muscle portion.
RESULTS72 cases with lower eyelid pouches complicated with lacrimal groove deformities were treated with transposition of orbital fat and orbicularis muscular flaps. Satisfactory results were achieved in all the patients after a follow-up period of 3-6 months.
CONCLUSIONIt is an effective and feasible technique to correct lacrimal groove deformities with transposition of orbital fat and orbicularis muscular flaps.

Diffuse pulmonary lymphangiomatosis (DPL) is a rare disease that is characterized by diffuse proliferation of abnormal pulmonary lymphatic channels. DPL occurs mostly in children and young adults and often undergoes a progressive clinical course, eventually causing deterioration of the lung. Both the clinical diagnosis and treatment of DPL remain a challenge. Here, we report a case of DPL in a 53-year-old Chinese woman with comprehensive investigations including pulmonary function tests, computer tomography (CT), bronchoscopy and histological examination of the lung biopsy, and review the literature.
