		                        			We evaluated severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2)-specific humoral and cellular responses for up to 6 months after the 3rd dose of ancestral coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination in people living with HIV (PLWH) and healthy controls (HCs) who were not infected with COVID-19. 
		                        		
		                        			Methods:
		                        			Anti-spike receptor-binding domain IgG (anti-RBD IgG) concentrations using chemiluminescence immunoassay and neutralizing antibodies using focus reduction neutralization test (FRNT) were assessed at 1 week after each dose of vaccination, and 3 and 6 months after the 3rd dose in 62 PLWH and 25 HCs. T-cell responses using intracellular cytokine stain were evaluated at 1 week before, and 1 week and 6 months after the 3rd dose. 
		                        		
		                        			Results:
		                        			At 1 week after the 3rd dose, adequate anti-RBD IgG (> 300 binding antibody unit /mL) was elicited in all PLWH except for one patient with 36 CD4 T-cell count/mm3 . The geometric mean titers of 50% FRNT against wild type (WT) and omicron BA.5 strains of SARS-CoV-2 in PLWH with CD4 T-cell count ≥ 500 cells/mm3(high CD4 recovery, HCDR) were comparable to HC, but they were significantly decreased in PLWH with CD4 T-cell count < 500/mm3 (low CD4 recovery, LCDR). After adjusting for age, gender, viral suppression, and number of preexisting comorbidities, CD4 T-cell counts < 500/mm3 significantly predicted a poor magnitude of neutralizing antibodies against WT, omicron BA.5, and XBB 1.5 strains among PLWH. Multivariable linear regression adjusting for age and gender revealed that LCDR was associated with reduced neutralizing activity (P = 0.017) and interferon-γ-producing T-cell responses (P = 0.049 for CD T-cell; P = 0.014 for CD8 T-cell) against WT, and strongly associated with more decreased cross-neutralization against omicron BA.5 strains (P < 0.001). 
		                        		
		                        			Conclusion

		                        			 OBJECTIVES:
		                        			We estimated the population prevalence of antibodies to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), including unreported infections, through a Korea Seroprevalence Study of Monitoring of SARS-CoV-2 Antibody Retention and Transmission (K-SEROSMART) in 258 communities throughout Korea. 
		                        		
		                        			METHODS:
		                        			In August 2022, a survey was conducted among 10,000 household members aged 5 years and older, in households selected through two stage probability random sampling. During face-to-face household interviews, participants self-reported their health status, COVID-19 diagnosis and vaccination history, and general characteristics. Subsequently, participants visited a community health center or medical clinic for blood sampling. Blood samples were analyzed for the presence of antibodies to spike proteins (anti-S) and antibodies to nucleocapsid proteins (anti-N) SARS-CoV-2 proteins using an electrochemiluminescence immunoassay. To estimate the population prevalence, the PROC SURVEYMEANS statistical procedure was employed, with weighting to reflect demographic data from July 2022. 
		                        		
		                        			RESULTS:
		                        			In total, 9,945 individuals from 5,041 households were surveyed across 258 communities, representing all basic local governments in Korea. The overall population-adjusted prevalence rates of anti-S and anti-N were 97.6% and 57.1%, respectively. Since the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency has reported a cumulative incidence of confirmed cases of 37.8% through July 31, 2022, the proportion of unreported infections among all COVID-19 infection was suggested to be 33.9%. 
		                        		
		                        			CONCLUSIONS
		                        			The K-SEROSMART represents the first nationwide, community-based seroepidemiologic survey of COVID-19, confirming that most individuals possess antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 and that a significant number of unreported cases existed. Furthermore, this study lays the foundation for a surveillance system to continuously monitor transmission at the community level and the response to COVID-19. 
		                        		
		                        		
		                        		
		                        	
6.Comparison of the Effects of Orthokeratology Lens and Cyclopentolate on Myopia Progression in Children

		                        			 Purpose:
		                        			To compare the effects of orthokeratology lens (Ortho‐K lens) and topical cyclopentolate on myopia progression in children.  
		                        		
		                        			Methods:
		                        			This retrospective study analyzed the medical records of 36 children who received Ortho‐K lens and 28 who received cyclopentolate (i.e., total of 64 eyes). The following data were recorded: sex, age, age at first intervention, follow‐up duration, and visual acuity and axial length (AL) at the time of first treatment and after 6, 12, and 24 months of treatment.  
		                        		
		                        			Results:
		                        			In the Ortho‐K group, the changes of AL significantly decreased by 0.3 ± 0.25 mm at 12 months and 0.52 ± 0.34 mm at 24 months (p for trend < 0.001). In the cyclopentolate group, the changes of AL significantly decreased by 0.36 ± 0.17 mm at 12 months and 0.62 ± 0.29 mm at 24 months (p for trend = 0.022). Compared to the use of cyclopentolate, the use of Ortho‐K lens resulted in smaller changes in AL during follow‐up (p = 0.038).  
		                        		
		                        			Conclusions
		                        			In myopic children, Ortho‐K reduced myopia progression, whereas cyclopentolate significantly less affect myopia progression than Ortho‐K lens. 
		                        		
		                        		
		                        		
		                        	
7.The Effect of Long-lasting Permethrin Impregnated Socks on Tick Bite in Korea

		                        			The risk of tick-borne diseases is decreased by increasing awareness and knowledge through prevention education. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of long-lasting permethrin impregnated (LLPI) socks for tick bites. 
		                        		
		                        			Methods:
		                        			A randomized open label study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of LLPI socks for prevention of tick bites among 367 adults living in a rural area. Participants completed questionnaires at the start of follow-up (July 2014) and at the end of follow-up (December 2014), and tick bites were reported. 
		                        		
		                        			Results:
		                        			A total of 332 subjects completed the follow-up survey. The tick bite rate of the two groups was not significantly different (3.6% vs. 3.1%). But the tick bite rate of lower extremities of subjects wearing LLPI socks was significantly lower compared to that of subjects wearing general socks. 
		                        		
		                        			Conclusion
		                        			The tick bite rate was not different between the two groups, but the tick bite rate of lower extremities of LLPI was significantly lower than general groups. 8.IDH2 gene deficiency accelerates unilateral ureteral obstructioninduced kidney inflammation through oxidative stress and activation of macrophages

		                        			Mitochondrial NADP+-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenase 2 (IDH2) produces NADPH, which is known to inhibit mitochondrial oxidative stress. Ureteral obstruction induces kidney inflammation and fibrosis via oxidative stress. Here, we investigated the role and underlying mechanism of IDH2 in unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO)-induced kidney inflammation using IDH2 gene deleted mice (IDH2–/–). Eight- to 10-week-old female IDH2–/– mice and wild type (IDH2+/+) littermates were subjected to UUO and kidneys were harvested 5 days after UUO. IDH2 was not detected in the kidneys of IDH2–/– mice, while UUO decreased IDH2 in IDH2+/+ mice. UUO increased the expressions of markers of oxidative stress in both IDH2+/+ and IDH2–/– mice, and these changes were greater in IDH2–/– mice compared to IDH2+/+ mice. Bone marrow-derived macrophages of IDH2–/– mice showed a more migrating phenotype with greater ruffle formation and Rac1 distribution than that of IDH2+/+ mice. Correspondently, UUO-induced infiltration of monocytes/macrophages was greater in IDH2–/– mice compared to IDH2+/+ mice. Taken together, these data demonstrate that IDH2 plays a protective role against UUO-induced inflammation through inhibition of oxidative stress and macrophage infiltration.

10.Usefulness of Refractive Measurement by Wavefront Aberrometer in Children

		                        			Purpose:
		                        			To compare the refractive measurements from a wavefront aberrometer, autorefractor, and retinoscopy after cycloplegia in evaluating the usefulness and validity of refractive measurements by a wavefront aberrometer in children. 
		                        		
		                        			Methods:
		                        			A total of 130 eyes of 65 children, aged from 3 to 16 years, were examined using retinoscopy, a wavefront aberrometer (OPD-Scan III), and an autorefractor (KR-1) after cycloplegia. Refractive measurements were converted to power vectors (M, J0, and J45) and cylindrical absolute values for statistical analysis. The agreement between instruments was assessed and the correlations of measurements were evaluated. Subgroup analysis was performed on two subgroups: one representing less refractive error (|M| < 2 D on cycloplegic retinoscopy) and the other with larger refractive error (|M| ≥ 2 D on cycloplegic retinoscopy). 
		                        		
		                        			Results:
		                        			Compared with retinoscopy readings, the aberrometer and autorefractor yielded more myopic values (p = 0.007, p < 0.001). In the less refractive error group, the autorefractor results showed statistically significant differences from retinoscopy readings for M, J0, and J45 and the cylindrical absolute value (all p < 0.05); there were no statistically significant differences between M, J0, and J45 vectors of the aberrometer and those obtained using retinoscopy (p = 0.674, p = 0.699, p = 0.766). With the larger refractive error group, the M vectors of the aberrometer and autorefractor showed more myopic values than the M vector retinoscopy readings; the differences were statistically significant (all p < 0.001). 
		                        		
		                        			Conclusions
		                        			The wavefront aberrometer yielded refraction readings closer to those obtained with retinoscopy than the automated refraction in the less refractive error group.
