Trastuzumab has improved survival rates in human epidermal growth factor receptor 2(HER2)-positive breast cancer(BC),but drug resistance leads to treatment failure.Natural killer(NK)cell-mediated antibody-dependent cell cytotoxicity(ADCC)represents an essential antitumor immune mechanism of trastuzumab.Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)has been used for centuries to treat diseases because of its capacity to improve immune responses.Xianling Lianxia formula(XLLXF),based on the principle of"strengthening body and eliminating toxin",exhibits a synergistic effect in the trastuzumab treatment of patients with HER2-positive BC.Notably, this synergistic effect of XLLXF was executed by enhancing NK cells and ADCC,as demonstrated through in vitro co-culture of NK cells and BC cells and in vivo inter-vention experiments.Mechanistically, the augmented impact of XLLXF on NK cells is linked to a decrease in cytokine inducible Src homology 2(SH2)containing protein(CISH)expression, which in turn activates the Janus kinase 1(JAK1)/signal transducer and activator of transcription 5(STAT5)pathway.Collectively,these findings suggested that XLLXF holds promise for enhancing NK cell function and sensitizing pa-tients with HER2-positive BC to trastuzumab.

Human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (HER-2)-positive breast cancer has higher predilection to metastasize and invade other organs, leading to poor prognosis. The anti-HER-2 drugs, such as trastuzumab, pertuzumab, and trastuzumab emtansinehas, can remarkably prolong the disease free survival (DFS) of patients. However, frequent multidrug resistance, tumor recurrence and metastasis, and adverse reactions such as cardiotoxicity and gastrointestinal discomfort caused by adjuvant therapy are still challenges for the treatment of HER-2-positive breast cancer. The understanding of breast cancer in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has a long history. In thousands of years of inheritance and innovation, a standardized treatment system with TCM characteristics has been gradually formed, which shows unique advantages and significant curative effects in breast cancer treatment. The treatment principles of ''treatment based on syndrome differentiation'', ''treatment based on stages and types'', ''treatment according to individual conditions'', and ''treatment of different viscera and viscera based on the toxin and pathogen'' are closely related to the precise treatment concept. In view of the challenges in the treatment of HER-2-positive breast cancer, such as multidrug resistance, tumor recurrence and metastasis, cardiotoxicity, and gastrointestinal discomfort, this paper summarizes the characteristics of TCM in reversing the multidrug resistance, inhibiting tumor recurrence and metastasis, prolonging DFS, improving prognosis, reducing adverse reactions caused by adjuvant therapy, and improving the quality of life after breast cancer surgery according to the principles of reinforcing healthy Qi and eliminating pathogen, and treatment based on syndrome differentiation. This article is expected to serve as a reference for TCM treatment of HER-2 positive breast cancer.

Central venous lesion is a difficult problem in the vascular access complications of hemodialysis, which can cause serious clinical symptoms and affect the quality of hemodialysis and life of patients. We established arteriovenous fistula of the contralateral graft blood vessel with the used vein on the diseased side of the central vein of the patient. The arteriovenous fistula of the graft blood vessel was successfully punctured and hemodialysis was performed 2 weeks later. In this way, we not only solved the problem of venous hypertension and subsequent vascular access in the patient, but also reserved more vascular resources.

Objective To analyze the main active components and potential molecular mechanism of Sophora flavescens against breast cancer based on network pharmacology and molecular docking. Methods The chemical constituents were collected and screened by TCMSP, ETCM database and literature review. The targets of active ingredients were predicted by Swiss Target Prediction database. Breast cancer-related targets were collected by GeneCards, TTD, Drugbank and OMIM. The anti-breast cancer targets of Sophora flavescens were screened by Venny 2.1.0 software. Cytoscape software was used to construct the network diagram of Sophora flavescens-key active ingredients-targets. STRING database was used to analyze the common targets, and PPI network diagram was constructed. GO function enrichment analysis and KEGG pathway enrichment analysis of key target proteins were performed by DAVID database and Hiplot online platform. Schrodinger software was used to calculate the molecular docking between the active ingredients and targets. Molecular biological methods were used to verify the key targets. Results A total of 36 active components with clear structures were screened from Sophora flavescens. 70 anti-breast cancer targets of Sophora flavescens were screened out. 12 core targets including EGFR, AKT1, ESR1, SRC, CYP19A1, AR and ABCB1 participate in endocrine resistance, EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors and estrogen signaling pathways in breast cancer. Moreover, the docking score between the core component and the key target AR is the highest. In vitro experiments showed that the extract of Sophora flavescens can inhibit the proliferation of breast cancer cells, induce cell apoptosis and up-regulate AR protein expression. Conclusion It was revealed that Sophora flavescens plays an anti-breast cancer role by regulating complex biological processes through multiple components acting on multiple targets and signaling pathways. The upregulation of AR protein by Sophora flavescens may become a new therapeutic strategy for the treatment of breast cancer.

OBJECTIVE:
Omicron, a severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variant, is responsible for numerous infections in China. This study investigates the association between the use of Seven-Flavor Herb Tea (SFHT) and the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection to develop precise and differentiated strategies for control of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
METHODS:
This case-control study was conducted at shelter hospitals and quarantine hotels in China. A total of 5348 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 patients were enrolled between April 1 and May 31, 2022, while 2190 uninfected individuals served as healthy controls. Structured questionnaires were used to collect data on demographics, underlying diseases, vaccination status, and use of SFHT. Patients were propensity-score-matched using 1:1 nearest-neighbor matching of the logit of the propensity score. Subsequently, a conditional logistic regression model was used for data analysis.
RESULTS:
Overall, 7538 eligible subjects were recruited, with an average age of [45.54 ± 16.94] years. The age of COVID-19 patients was significantly higher than that of uninfected individuals ([48.25 ± 17.48] years vs [38.92 ± 13.41] years; t = 22.437, P < 0.001). A total of 2190 COVID-19 cases were matched with uninfected individuals at a 1:1 ratio. The use of SFHT (odds ratio = 0.753, 95% confidence interval: 0.692, 0.820) was associated with a lower risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection compared to untreated individuals.
CONCLUSION
Our findings suggest that taking SFHT reduces the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection. This is a useful study in the larger picture of COVID-19 management, but data from large-sample multi-center, randomized clinical trial are warranted to confirm the finding. Journal of Integrative Medicine 2021;19(2):111-119
BACKGROUND:
Shenyankangfu Tablet (SYKFT) is a Chinese patent medicine that has been used widely to decrease proteinuria and the progression of chronic kidney disease.
OBJECTIVE:
This trial compared the efficacy and safety of SYKFT, for the control of proteinuria in primary glomerulonephritis patients, against the standard drug, losartan potassium.
DESIGN, SETTING, PARTICIPANTS AND INTERVENTION:
This was a multicenter, double-blind, randomized, controlled clinical trial. Primary glomerulonephritis patients, aged 18-70 years, with blood pressure ≤ 140/90 mmHg, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) ≥ 45 mL/min per 1.73 m
MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:
The primary outcome was change in the 24-hour proteinuria level, after 48 weeks of treatment.
RESULTS:
A total of 735 participants were enrolled. The percent decline of urine protein quantification in the SYKFT group after 48 weeks was 8.78% ± 2.56% (P = 0.006) more than that in the losartan 50 mg group, which was 0.51% ± 2.54% (P = 1.000) less than that in the losartan 100 mg group. Compared with the losartan potassium 50 mg group, the SYKFT plus losartan potassium 50 mg group had a 13.39% ± 2.49% (P < 0.001) greater reduction in urine protein level. Compared with the losartan potassium 100 mg group, the SYKFT plus losartan potassium 100 mg group had a 9.77% ± 2.52% (P = 0.001) greater reduction in urine protein. With a superiority threshold of 15%, neither was statistically significant. eGFR, serum creatinine and serum albumin from the baseline did not change statistically significant. The average change in TCM syndrome score between the patients who took SYKFT (-3.00 [-6.00, -2.00]) and who did not take SYKFT (-2.00 [-5.00, 0]) was statistically significant (P = 0.003). No obvious adverse reactions were observed in any group.
CONCLUSION:
SYKFT decreased the proteinuria and improved the TCM syndrome scores of primary glomerulonephritis patients, with no change in the rate of decrease in the eGFR. SYKFT plus losartan potassium therapy decreased proteinuria more than losartan potassium therapy alone.

Chinese Journal of Geriatrics 2021;40(9):1178-1183
Objective:To explore the correlation between fish intake and cognitive function in the elderly. Methods:Based on data for Hubei province of the Chinese Health and Nutrition Survey 2015, 335 participants aged 60 and over were included in the study.Face-to-face cognitive screening was used to evaluate cognitive function.Fish intake was converted into four classifications: 0 g/d, 0-50 g/d, 50-100 g/d, and >100 g/d.The multiple linear regression model was used to analyze the correlation between fish intake and cognitive function in the elderly. Results:There were 335 subjects, including 142 males(42.4%)and 193 females(57.6%). In the overall population( F=4.19, P=0.006)and females( F=2.30, P=0.079), cognitive scores of the elderly increased with increased fish intake, but no increase was found in males( F=1.99, P=0.119). After adjusting for confounding factors such as age, sex, urban and rural living, education level, marital status, smoking, alcohol consumption, daily total energy intake, dietary fat-to-energy intake ratio, BMI, history of hypertension and stroke, fish intake >100 g/d in the elderly was positively correlated with the cognitive score( β=2.68, 95% CI: 0.38-4.98), compared with the lowest fish intake group(0 g/d); gender-stratified analysis showed that the regression coefficient was 4.26(95% CI: 1.23-7.30)for women and 1.70(-1.76-5.15)for men. Conclusions:Increased fish intake is positively correlated with improved cognitive function in elderly women, but the same is not true in elderly men.Increasing fish intake may be beneficial in preventing cognitive decline in elderly women.
