Traumatic supraorbital fissure syndrome (TSOFS) is a symptom complex caused by nerve entrapment in the supraorbital fissure after skull base trauma. If the compressed cranial nerve in the supraorbital fissure is not decompressed surgically, ptosis, diplopia and eye movement disorder may exist for a long time and seriously affect the patients′ quality of life. Since its overall incidence is not high, it is not familiarized with the majority of neurosurgeons and some TSOFS may be complicated with skull base vascular injury. If the supraorbital fissure surgery is performed without treatment of vascular injury, it may cause massive hemorrhage, and disability and even life-threatening in severe cases. At present, there is no consensus or guideline on the diagnosis and treatment of TSOFS that can be referred to both domestically and internationally. To improve the understanding of TSOFS among clinical physicians and establish standardized diagnosis and treatment plans, the Skull Base Trauma Group of the Neurorepair Professional Committee of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, Neurotrauma Group of the Neurosurgery Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, Neurotrauma Group of the Traumatology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, and Editorial Committee of Chinese Journal of Trauma organized relevant experts to formulate Chinese expert consensus on the diagnosis and treatment of traumatic supraorbital fissure syndrome ( version 2024) based on evidence of evidence-based medicine and clinical experience of diagnosis and treatment. This consensus puts forward 12 recommendations on the diagnosis, classification, treatment, efficacy evaluation and follow-up of TSOFS, aiming to provide references for neurosurgeons from hospitals of all levels to standardize the diagnosis and treatment of TSOFS.

Objective To investigate visual impairment students' quality of life and its influencing factors in Braille learning class at Quanzhou Special School. Methods November, 2020, 52 students (aged seven to 26) with the best corrected distance visual acuity of the better eye above 0.02 were investigated with near visual acuity, contrast sensitivity and Chinese-version Low Vision Quality of Life Questionnaire (CLVQOL). The subjects were divided into second grade blindness group, first grade low vision group and second grade low vision group according to the best corrected distance visual acuity of the better eye. Results There were significant differences in distance visual acuity (Z = 45.671, P < 0.001), near visual acuity (Z = 24.972, P < 0.001), and contrast sensitivity (CS) ( Z = 13.285, P = 0.001) among three groups. There was a correlation between near visual acuity and distance visual acuity (r = 0.74, P < 0.001), CS to distance visual acuity (r = -0.58, P < 0.001) and near visual acuity (r = -0.57, P < 0.001), score of CLVQOL and CS (r = 0.44, P < 0.001). There were significant differences in the total score (Z = 10.145, P = 0.006), distance visual acuity subscale (Z = 13.586, P = 0.001), psychological adjustment subscale (Z = 7.824, P = 0.020), reading and fine work subscale (Z = 7.923, P = 0.019) of CLVQOL among the three groups. Conclusion Quality of life is different with the visual impairment for students in special school, especially the distance visual acuity, psychological adjustment and fine reading. CS correlates to the quality of life of visually impaired students, which needs to be a part of evaluation of visual function.

National Journal of Andrology 2004;10(8):593-597
OBJECTIVETo evaluate the effect of suprapubic prostatectomy by preset removable pouch suture on the sexual function of patients with benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH).
METHODSRetrospective study was made on 110 cases of BPH that underwent suprapubic prostatectomy by preset removable pouch suture between Jan. 2000 and Sep. 2003. The sexual function changes were evaluated before and after surgery by IIEF-5.
RESULTSTwelve cases of post-operative ED (7 mild, 5 severe) post operative were found in 58 cases with normal sexual function pre-operatively. Among the 30 cases of mild pre-operative ED, 4 severe after operation, 5 restored to normal erection (>21 scores according to IIEF-5), and 21 had no significant change, Of the 22 cases in with severe pre-operative ED, 7 had higher IIEF-5 scores (4 became mild, and 3 had >21 scores). The changes of IIEF-5 scores before and after operation were not statistically different, which could be observed in morning erection (68% pre-operatively and 75% post-operatively). Post-operative retrograde ejaculation was found in 16 case (19%). Eighty percent of the patients thought that the suprapubic prostatectomy by preset removable pouch suture had no effect on male sexual function.
CONCLUSIONSuprapubic prostatectomy by preset removable pouch suture affects very little male's sexual function and is a safe method for the treatment of BPH patients.

National Journal of Andrology 2004;10(5):330-333
OBJECTIVETo investigate the restoration of erectile function by reconstructing cavernous nerves with sural nerve grafts.
METHODSForty-eight male Sprague-Dawley rats(3-4 m old and 300-400 g) were randomly divided into three groups: the sham-operated group (n = 16) underwent pelvic exploration without transection of the cavernous nerve; the nerve ablation group (n = 16) had a 5 mm segment of the cavernous nerve excised bilaterally; the graft group (n = 16) had a 5 mm segment of the cavernous nerve excised bilaterally, followed by immediate microsurgical reconstruction with an interposition graft of the sural nerve. The cavernous nerves of each group were electrostimulated to determine their potency after 2 and 4 months. And fluorescent retrograde-transported material Fluoro-Gold(FG) was injected into the penis. FG-labeled neuron cells in whole mounts of major pelvic ganglions were observed five days after injection.
RESULTSElectrical stimulation produced no erection in either the nerve ablation or the graft group, but 100% erection in the sham-operated group after 2 months. The numbers of FG-labeled neurons significantly differed between the nerve ablation group and the graft group. After 4 months erection examination showed statistical significance in the difference between the graft group and the nerve ablation group(P < 0.05). The FG-labeled neurons in the graft group significantly differed from those in the ablation (P < 0.05), and almost reached the level of the sham-operated(P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONCavernous nerve grafting can successfully restore erectile dysfunction in rats after surgical injury.
