Observation indicators: (1) incidence of VTE in EC patients; (2) treatment and outcomes of patients with VTE. Measurement data with normal distribution were represented as Mean± SD, and comparison between groups was analyzed using the t test. Measurement data with skewed distribution were represented as M(range), and comparison between groups was analyzed using the nonparameter rank sum test. Count data were expressed as absolute numbers or percentages, and comparison between groups was analyzed using the chi-square test or Fisher exact probability. Comparison of ordinal data was analyzed using the nonparameter rank sum test. Results:(1) Incidence of VTE in EC patients. Of 8 458 EC patients, 175 cases developed VTE, with an incidence rate of 2.069%(175/8 458). Among 175 VTE patients, there were 164 cases of deep venous thrombosis (DVT), 4 cases of pulmonary embolism (PE), 7 cases of DVT and PE. There were 59 surgical patients and 116 non-surgical patients. There was no significant difference in thrombus type between surgical and non-surgical EC patients with VTE ( χ2=1.95, P>0.05). Of 3 187 surgical patients, the incidence of VTE was 1.851%(59/3 187), including an incidence of 0.157%(5/3 187) of PE. PE accounted for 8.475%(5/59) of surgical patients with VTE. Of 5 271 non-surgical patients, the incidence of VTE was 2.201%(116/5 271), including an incidence of 0.114%(6/5 271) of PE. PE accounted for 5.172%(6/116) of non-surgical patients with VTE. There was no significant difference in the incidence of VTE or PE between surgical patients and non-surgical patients ( χ2=1.20, 0.05, P>0.05). (2) Treatment and outcomes of patients with VTE. Among 175 EC patients with VTE, 163 cases underwent drug treatment, and 12 cases did not receive treatment. Among 163 cases with drug therapy, 158 cases underwent anticoagulant therapy, 5 cases were treated with thrombolysis. All the 163 patients were improved and discharged from hospital. Objective: To examine the feasibility and surgical approach of removing type D trigeminal schwannoma through nasal cavity and nasal sinus under endoscope. Methods: Eleven patients with trigeminal schwannoma who were treated in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Qilu Hospital of Shandong University from December 2014 to August 2021 were analyzed retrospectively in this study. There were 7 males and 4 females, aged (47.5±13.5) years (range: 12 to 64 years). The neoplasm involved the pterygopalatine fossa, infratemporal fossa, ethmoidal sinus, sphenoid sinus, cavernous sinus, and middle cranial fossa. The size of tumors were between 1.6 cm×2.0 cm×2.0 cm and 5.7 cm×6.0 cm×6.0 cm. Under general anesthesia, the tumors were resected through the transpterygoid approach in 4 cases, through the prelacrimal recess approach in 4 cases, through the extended prelacrimal recess approach in 2 cases, and through the endoscopic medial maxillectomy approach in 1 case. The nasal endoscopy and imaging examination were conducted to detect whether neoplasm recurred or not, and the main clinical symptoms during follow-up. Results: All the surgical procedures were performed under endonasal endoscope, including Gross total resection in 10 patients. The tumor of a 12-year-old patient was not resected completely due to huge tumor size and limited operation space. One patient was accompanied by two other schwannomas located in the occipital region and the ipsilateral parotid gland region originating from the zygomatic branch of the facial nerve, both of which were removed concurrently. After tumor resection, the dura mater of middle cranial fossa was directly exposed in the nasal sinus in 2 cases, including 1 case accompanied by cerebrospinal fluid leakage which was reconstructed by a free mucosal flap obtained from the middle turbinate, the other case was packed by the autologous fat to protect the dura mater. The operation time was (M(IQR)) 180 (160) minutes (range: 120 to 485 minutes). No complications and deaths were observed. No recurrence was observed in the 10 patients with total tumor resection during a 58 (68) months' (range: 10 to 90 months) follow-up. No obvious change was observed in the facial appearance of all patients during the follow-up. Conclusion: Type D trigeminal schwannoma involving pterygopalatine fossa and infratemporal fossa can be removed safely through purely endoscopic endonasal approach by selecting the appropriate approach according to the size and involvement of the tumor.

Objective:To explore the feasibility of deep learning-based restoration of obscured thyroid ultrasound images. Methods:A total of 358 images of thyroid nodules were retropectively collected from January 2020 to October 2021 at Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, and the images were randomly masked and restored using DeepFillv2. The difference in grey values between the images before and after restoration was compared, and 6 sonographers (2 chief physicians, 2 attending physicians, 2 residents) were invited to compare the rate of correctness of judgement and detection of image discrepancies. The ultrasound features of thyroid nodules (solid composition, microcalcifications, markedly hypoechoic, ill-defined or irregular margins, or extrathyroidal extensions, vertical orientation and comet-tail artifact) were extracted according to the Chinese Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System (C-TIRADS). The consistency of ultrasound features of thyroid nodules before and after restoration were compared. Results:The mean squared error of the images before and after restoration ranged from 0.274 to 0.522, and there were significant differences in the rate of correctness of judgement and detection of image discrepancies between physicians of different groups(all P<0.001). The overall accuracy rate was 51.95%, the overall detection rate was 1.79%, there were significant differences also within the chief physicians and resident groups (all P<0.001). The agreement rate of all ultrasound features of the nodules before and after image restoration was higher than 70%, over 90% agreement rate for features such as solid composition and comet-tail artifact. Conclusions:The algorithm can effectively repair obscured thyroid ultrasound images while preserving image features, which is expected to expand the deep learning image database, and promote the development of deep learning in the field of ultrasound images.

Acta Universitatis Medicinalis Anhui 2023;58(9):1458-1466
Objective :
To the effects and potential mechanisms of ST3GAL5 on biological behaviors of Bladder
Urothelial Carcinoma(BLCA) .
Methods :
Differentially expressed genes related to bladder cancer were identified
using microarray analysis . Suitable bladder cancer cell lines were then screened . In vitro experimental measurements , including CCK8 , EdU , colony formation assays , transwell migration , flow cytometry apoptosis experiments , scratch assay , were used to evaluate the effects of ST3GAL5 on biological behaviors of BLCA . ST3GAL5 gene Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes ( KEGG) , gene set enrichment analysis ( GSEA) were analyzed using The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database . Finally , Western blot technology was used to verify the classical proliferation and metastasis related pathway factors .
Results :
The combination of bioinformatics analyses and experimental
measurements demonstrate that ST3GAL5 expression is aberrantly down⁃regulated in human cell lines of BLCA . Through Cancer Cell Line Encyclopedia (CCLE) database , HT⁃1376 cell lines were successfully screened for vitro test . Upregulation of ST3GAL5 was found to suppress the malignant biological behaviour of bladder cancer. GSEA enrichment analyses exhibited that ST3GAL5 and its co⁃expressed genes inhibited cell proliferation , invasion and metastasis of bladder urothelial carcinoma by activation of the PPAR pathway and inhibition of the PI3K/AKT pathway . The results of Western blot experiments verified that the key proteins of the PPAR signaling pathway showed a
significant increase and the key proteins of the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway showed a significant decrease ( P <0. 05) after ST3GAL5 overexpression in bladder cancer.
Conclusion
ST3GAL5 gene might act as an oncogenic suppressor gene in bladder cancer , possibly inhibit the proliferation , invasion and metastasis of bladder cancer cells by activating the PPAR signaling pathway and inhibiting related molecules in the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway .

OBJECTIVE:
To explore the genetic basis for an individual with a para-Bombay phenotype.
METHODS:
A proband with mismatched forward and reverse serotypes for the ABO blood group was identified. Weakly expressed ABH blood type antigen on the surface of red blood cells was verified by absorption and release test, and the blood group substances in saliva was detected by sialic acid test. Exons 6 and 7 of the ABO gene and exons of the FUT1 and FUT2 genes were subjected to direct sequencing.
RESULTS:
The proband was found to be of O type by forward ABO serotyping and AB type by reverse ABO serotyping, though H and substance A and B were detected in her saliva. DNA sequencing revealed that she has harbored c.35C/T, c.328G/A, and c.504delC compound heterozygous variants of the FUT1 gene. Haploid analysis showed that her FUT1 genotype was h328A/h35T+504delC, which has been uploaded to the NCBI website (No. MW323551).
CONCLUSION
The para-Bombay phenotype of the proband may be attributed to the novel compound heterozygous variants including c.504delC of the FUT1 gene, which may affect its function by altering the activity of FUT1 glycotransferase.

Chinese Journal of Trauma 2022;38(1):23-31
Lower extremity deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is one of the main complications in patients with traumatic fractures, and for severe patients, the DVT can even affect arterial blood supply, resulting in insufficient limb blood supply. If the thrombus breaks off, pulmonary embolism may occur, with a high mortality. The treatment and rehabilitation strategies of thrombosis in patients with lower extremity fractures have its particularity. DVT in traumatic fractures patients has attracted extensive attention and been largely studied, and the measures for prevention and treatment of DVT are constantly developing. In recent years, a series of thrombosis prevention and treatment guidelines have been updated at home and abroad, but there are still many doubts about the prevention and treatment of DVT in patients with different traumatic fractures. Accordingly, on the basis of summarizing the latest evidence-based medical evidence at home and abroad and the clinical experience of the majority of experts, the authors summarize the clinical treatment and prevention protocols for DVT in patients with traumatic fractures, and make this consensus on the examination and assessment, treatment, prevention and preventive measures for DVT in patients with different fractures so as to provide a practicable approach suitable for China ′s national conditions and improve the prognosis and the life quality of patients.
