All reported cases were investigated by city or government epidemiologists and the diagnostic certainty and causality was determined by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency’s Adverse Event Following Immunization Expert Advisory Committee according to the modified version of Brighton Collaboration Myocarditis/Pericarditis Working group’s case definitions. 
		                        		
		                        			Results:
		                        			A total 3,709,063 adolescents aged 12–19 received 8,135,240 doses of the BNT162b2 vaccine in South Korea, and 184 cases met the Brighton criteria for the case definition of myocarditis and pericarditis with diagnostic certainty of possible and above. The median age was 17 years old (interquartile range [IQR], 15–18) and boys accounted for 81.5% (n = 150/184) of the cases. The overall incidence was 2.25 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.94–2.60) cases per 100,000 doses and severe cases was 0.25 (95% CI, 0.15–3.80) cases per 100,000 doses.The highest incidence rate was observed in boys after the second dose, with 5.01 (95% CI, 4.12–6.17) cases per 100,000 doses. A total 89.1% (164/184) were classified as mild, and no deaths were reported. 
		                        		
		                        			Conclusion

5.Translation and Linguistic Validation of Korean Version of the Expanded Prostate Cancer Index Composite for Clinical Practice for Patients With Prostate Cancer

		                        			 Purpose:
		                        			Advances in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer have increased the patients’ stress level and decreased the quality of life. A variety of instruments are currently available to evaluate patients with prostate cancer. However, only a few tools are available to assess Korean patients, and therefore we demonstrated a linguistic validation of Korean Expanded Prostate Cancer Index Composite for Clinical Practice (EPIC-CP). 
		                        		
		                        			Methods:
		                        			EPIC-CP was translated into Korean and the linguistic validation was evaluated. The evaluation process includes permission for translation, forward translation, reconciliation, backward translation, cognitive debriefing, and proofreading. Two bilingual translators independently translated the original questionnaire, discussed the feasibility and naturalness of initial translation, followed by revision to the reconciled version. Another translator then performed a backward translation into English. Ten patients with prostate cancer completed the translated questionnaire and performed cognitive debriefing. 
		                        		
		                        			Results:
		                        			The original EPIC-CP was translated into 2 Korean versions. The different wording in both versions and the ordinary words in the initial translations were changed considering the nuances and meanings of medical terms. During the backward translation, the panels made slight changes to clarify the meaning and nuances of the translated questionnaire. During cognitive debriefing, 10 patients answered the questionnaire and offered their opinions regarding comprehensibility and naturalness. Most patients agreed that the translation was comprehensible in general. 
		                        		
		                        			Conclusions
		                        			Our study provides a successful linguistic validation of the EPIC-CP questionnaire. The translation is a helpful diagnostic tool to ensure the quality of life of patients with prostate cancer attending crowded clinics.

		                        			BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOACs) are increasingly used for stroke prevention in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF), showing better efficacy and safety than warfarin. However, the rates or reasons for discontinuation of NOACs in clinical practice have not been clarified. The aim of this study was to compare 3 NOACs (apixaban, rivaroxaban, and dabigatran) with warfarin in terms of medication persistence. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: We retrospectively evaluated 1,527 patients with NVAF who had recently started taking NOACs between January 2012 and September 2015 (294 apixaban, 748 rivaroxaban, and 485 dabigatran) and compared them with 363 patients with NVAF who started taking warfarin between January 2012 and December 2013 at the Samsung Medical Center. RESULTS: The mean follow-up duration was 532 days. The discontinuation rates were higher in the 3 NOAC groups than in the warfarin group within the first year. The major causes of discontinuation were maintenance of sinus rhythm; adverse events, including all bleeding and gastrointestinal symptoms; and patients demand. The adverse event rate was lower in the warfarin group than in the 3 NOAC groups. No significant differences in thromboembolic and major bleeding events were found between the 3 NOAC groups and the warfarin group. CONCLUSION: In a single-center study, NOACs showed lower medication persistence and higher adverse event rates than warfarin during the first year.

		                        			Malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH), a type of sarcoma, is a malignant neoplasm with uncertain origins that arise from both the soft tissues and the bone. The occurrence of MFH on the chest wall is extremely rare. 		                        			Valacyclovir is an oral antiviral agent used in the treatment of herpesvirus infection. Although neuropsychiatric symptoms may accompany the use of this drug, valacyclovir is increasingly used to treat herpes zoster, as it is more effective when orally administered. This paper reports one case of neurotoxicity of valacyclovir in patients with end stage renal disease who were undergoing maintenance hemodialysis. Valacyclovir can induce life-threatening neurotoxicity, especially in end stage renal disease patients despite the appropriate dose reduction. Furthermore, Valacyclovir-induced neurotoxicity can be effectively managed by intensive hemodialysis.

10.Elevated Prx1 Provides Resistance to Docetaxel, But Is Not Associated with Predictive Significance in Lung Cancer.

		                        			BACKGROUND: This study was conducted in order to elucidate the effects of docetaxel on the growth of peroxiredoxin 1 (Prx1) knockdown A549 xenograft tumors and further tested the role of Prx1 as a predictor for how a patient would respond to docetaxel treatment. METHODS: Effects of docetaxel on the growth of scrambled- and shPrx1-infected A549 xenograft tumors in nude mice were measured. Moreover, immunohistochemical expression of Prx1 was evaluated in paraffin-embedded tissues from 24 non-small cell lung cancer patients who had received docetaxel-cisplatin regimens as a first-line treatment. RESULTS: Docetaxel treatment in Prx1 knockdown xenograft tumor resulted in reduced tumors growth compared with other groups. Prx1 knockdown increased the production of cleaved caspases-8 and -9 in the control itself compared to scramble tumors. Moreover, docetaxel treatment in Prx1 knockdown tissue led to an increased protein band. Phosphorylated Akt was found in Prx1 scramble tissues. Phosphorylated FOXO1 was detected in the docetaxel treatment group. On the other hand, Prx1 knockdown completely suppressed the Akt-FOXO1 axis. The median progression-free survival (PFS) of patients with low Prx1 expression was 7 months (95% confidence interval [CI], 6.0-7.7), whereas the median progression-free survival of patients with high Prx1 expression was 4 months (95% CI, 4.0-5.0). However, high Prx1 expression was not associated with decreased PFS (p=0.114). CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that elevated Prx1 provides resistance to docetaxel treatment through suppression of FOXO1-induced apoptosis in A549 xenograft tumors, but may not be related with the predictive significance for response to docetaxel treatment.
