ObjectiveTo investigate the potential mechanism of action of the Qufeng Tongqiao Cough-relieving Decoction （祛风通窍止咳方， QTCD） in the treatment of upper airway cough syndrome （UACS）. MethodsTwenty-four guinea pigs were randomly divided into blank group， model group， traditional Chinese medicine （TCM） group， and inhibitor group， with six guinea pigs in each group. Except for the blank group， guinea pigs were sensitized with ovalbumin and aluminum hydroxide via intraperitoneal injection， followed by ovalbumin nasal drops combined with smoke exposure to establish the UACS model. After modeling， the TCM group was administered QTCD 0.9 g/（100 g·d） by gavage， the inhibitor group received the transient receptor potential vanilloid receptor 4 （TRPV4） inhibitor GSK2193874 1 mmol/L， 5 min by nebulisation， and the blank group and model group were given 2 ml/（100 g·d） normal saline by gavage once daily. After 7 days of treatment， a cough provocation test was performed using 0.4 mol/L citric acid. The levels of IgE in serum and inflammatory cytokines， including interleukin-6 （IL-6）， interleukin-8 （IL-8） in serum， bronchoalveolar lavage fluid （BALF）， and nasal lavage fluid （NLF） were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay （ELISA）. Histopathological changes in lung and nasal mucosal tissues were observed by hematoxylin-eosin （HE） staining. Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the protein levels of TRPV4， substance P （SP）， and calcitonin gene-related peptide （CGRP） in lung and nasal mucosal tissues. Real-time polymerase chain reaction （Real-time PCR） was used to detect the mRNA expression of TRPV4， SP， and CGRP in lung tissues. ResultsHE staining showed significant structural damage and infiltration of inflammatory cells in the lung and nasal mucosal tissues in the model group， while the TCM group and inhibitor group showed improved pathological changes. Compared with the blank group， the model group showed increased cough frequency， serum IgE level， and IL-6 and IL-8 levels in serum， BALF， and NLF. The protein levels of TRPV4， SP， and CGRP in lung and nasal mucosal tissues and their mRNA expression were elevated （P＜0.05 or P＜0.01）. Compared with the model group， the TCM group and inhibitor group showed reduced cough frequency， serum IgE level， and TRPV4 and SP mRNA expression in lung tissues. The TCM group showed reduced IL-6 and IL-8 levels in serum， BALF， and NLF， and reduced TRPV4 and CGRP protein levels in lung and nasal mucosal tissues. The inhibitor group showed reduced IL-6 and IL-8 levels in serum， BALF， and NLF， reduced IL-6 in BALF， reduced IL-8 in NLF， and decreased TRPV4， SP， and CGRP protein levels in lung tissues and SP and CGRP protein levels in nasal mucosal tissues （P＜0.05 or P＜0.01）. Compared with the TCM group， the inhibitor group had increased serum IgE， IL-6， and IL-8 levels， increased IL-6 level in BALF， and increased IL-8 levle in NLF， but decreased SP protein level in lung tissues and increased TRPV4 and SP mRNA expression in lung tissues （P＜0.01）. ConclusionQTCD effectively reduces cough frequency in the UACS guinea pig model. Its mechanism may involve inhibiting the activation of the TRPV4 pathway， improving airway neurogenic inflammation， alleviating inflammatory responses， and reducing cough hypersensitivity.

Objective To explore the relationship between the distribution of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome elements and coronary angiography results in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD). Methods A total of 100 patients with CHD admitted to our hospital between January 2024 and January 2025 were randomly selected as the research subjects. All patients underwent coronary angiography, and the distribution of TCM syndrome elements in patients with CHD was analyzed. The differences in syndrome element distribution among patients with varying numbers of diseased vessels were compared. The differences in Gensini scores of patients with different syndrome elements were assessed. A Spearman analysis was used to analyze the correlations between the number of diseased vessels, Gensini scores, and TCM syndrome elements. Results The proportions of heart, blood stasis, and Qi deficiency syndrome elements in single-vessel lesions were lower than those in triple-vessel lesions (P < 0.05). The proportions of blood stasis and Qi deficiency syndrome elements in double-vessel lesions were lower than those in triple-vessel lesions (P < 0.05). Gensini scores of patients with heart, blood stasis, and Yang deficiency syndrome elements were significantly higher, and Gensini scores of patients with Qi stagnation were significantly lower (P < 0.05). The Spearman analysis showed that the number of diseased coronary vessels in patients with CHD was positively correlated with heart, blood stasis, and Qi deficiency syndrome elements (P < 0.05), but not significantly correlated with other syndrome elements (P > 0.05). Gensini score was positively correlated with heart, blood stasis, Qi deficiency, and Yang deficiency, and negatively correlated with Qi stagnation (P < 0.05). There were no significant correlations between Gensini score and other syndrome elements (P > 0.05). Conclusion The distribution of TCM syndrome elements in patients with CHD is centered on the heart and liver, with blood stasis, phlegm turbidity, and Qi deficiency as the main diseases, reflecting the pathogenesis of “root deficiency with branch excess”. The syndrome elements of heart, blood stasis, and Qi deficiency are closely related to the results of coronary angiography, which can provide a reference for the evaluation of CHD in clinical practice.

ObjectiveTo investigate the effect of Fuzheng Huayu prescription on hepatocyte extinction and regeneration in fibrotic liver and its mechanism of action in promoting hepatocyte regeneration. MethodsMice were given intraperitoneal injection of CCl₄ for 6 weeks to establish a model of liver cirrhosis， and there were 10 mice in the model group， 10 in the sorafenib group， 10 in the Fuzheng Huayu prescription group， and 9 in the normal control group. Since week 4 of modeling， the mice in the Fuzheng Huayu prescription group and the sorafenib group were given the corresponding drug by gavage at a dose of 4.8 g/kg and 4 mg/kg， respectively， for three consecutive weeks， and those in the normal group and the model group were given an equal volume of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose. Serum liver function parameters were measured； the METAVIR scoring system was used to evaluate liver inflammation and fibrosis stage； Sirius Red staining and hydroxyproline （Hyp） content in liver tissue were used to evaluate collagen deposition； immunohistochemistry was used to measure the protein expression levels of type IV collagen， CD31， CD32b， Ki67， CyclinD1， glutamine synthetase， Wnt2， and HGF， and Western blot was used to measure the expression levels of Wnt2， LRP6， β-catenin， p-β-catenin， and CyclinD1 in liver tissue. A one-way analysis of variance was used for comparison of continuous data between multiple groups， and the least significant difference t-test was used for further comparison between two groups. ResultsCompared with the model group， the Fuzheng Huayu prescription group and the sorafenib group showed the following changes： significant reductions in the serum levels of alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase and the content of Hyp in liver tissue （all P<0.01）； a significant reduction in METAVIR score； significant reductions in the expression levels of type Ⅳ collagen and CD31 （all P<0.05） and a significant increase in the expression level of CD32b （P<0.01）； significant reductions in the number of parenchymal extinction lesions and significant increases in the expression levels of Ki67 and CyclinD1 in liver tissue （all P<0.01）； significant increases in the protein expression levels of Wnt2， LRP6， β-catenin， and CyclinD1 and a significant reduction in the protein expression level of p-β-catenin （all P<0.05）； significant increases in the number of cells stained positive for both CD32b and Wnt2. ConclusionFuzheng Huayu prescription can inhibit hepatic sinusoidal capillarization， improve the Wnt2 exocrine function of liver sinusoidal endothelial cells， activate the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway associated with hepatocyte regeneration， and finally reverse liver cirrhosis.

The objective of this study was to examine the effects of electroacupuncture on the expression of ATP-binding cassette transporter A1(ABCA1),ATP-binding cassette transporter G1(ABCG1),and class B type Ⅰ scavenger receptor(SR-B Ⅰ)genes and proteins in peritoneal macrophages of atherosclerotic rabbits.The study aimed to explore the mechanism underlying the treatment of atherosclerosis(AS)with electroacupuncture.Methods Twenty-six male New Zealand rabbits were randomly divided into the negative control group(n=7)and the modeling group(n=19)using a random number table method.The negative control group rabbits were fed a regular diet,while the modeling group was induced with a combination of high-fat feed and common carotid artery balloon injury surgery to create an AS model.After successful modeling,the rabbits in the modeling group were further divided into the model group,the electroacupuncture group,and the atorvastatin group,with 6 rabbits in each group.The rabbits in the electroacupuncture group received electroacupuncture at"'Neiguan'(PC6)","'Zusanli'(ST36)",and"'Guanyuan'(ST25)"acupoints,using a density wave,a current of 1 mA,and a frequency of 4 Hz/20 Hz,once a day.The needle was retained for 20 minutes each time,and a total of 4 courses of treatment were conducted,with 6 days per course.The rabbits in the atorvastatin group were administered atorvastatin calcium tablet suspension(1 mg/kg)orally once a day,for 6 days per course,with a total of 4 courses.After the interventions,HE staining was performed to observe the morphological changes in the common carotid artery tissue of the rabbits.Peritoneal macrophages were collected from the rabbits,and the mRNA expression levels of ABCA1,ABCG1,and SR-B Ⅰ were measured using real-time fluorescence PCR.The protein expression levels of ABCA1,ABCG1,and SR-B Ⅰ were detected using Western blotting.Results The negative control group exhibited smooth intima of common carotid artery in rabbits,while the model group displayed damaged intima of common carotid artery,thickened artery walls,and the formation of atherosclerotic plaques.The electroacupuncture group and atorvastatin group showed significant improvements in wall thickening and a reduction in plaque area.Compared with the negative control group,the mRNA and protein expressions of ABCA1,ABCG1,and SR-B Ⅰ in peritoneal macrophages of rabbits in the model group were reduced(P＜0.01).Compared with the model group,the electroacupuncture group and atorvastatin group exhibited increased mRNA and protein expressions of ABCA1,ABCG1,and SR-B Ⅰ in abdominal macrophages of rabbits(P＜0.01).Furthermore,the atorvastatin group demonstrated increased mRNA levels of ABCG1 and SR-B Ⅰ,as well as increased protein expressions of ABCA1,ABCG1,and SR-B Ⅰ in peritoneal macrophages of rabbits,in comparison to the electroacupuncture group(P＜0.01).Conclusion Electroacupuncture can enhance the expressions of ABCA1,ABCG1,and SR-B Ⅰ mRNA and protein in abdominal macrophages of AS rabbits,thereby promoting the process of cholesterol reverse transport.This may be one of the mechanisms underlying the effectiveness of acupuncture in the treatment of AS.

Objective To investigate the hormone resistance and analyze its influencing factors in 510 children with nephrotic syndrome. Methods The clinical data of 510 children with primary nephrotic syndrome admitted to our hospital from January 2019 to August 2023 were retrospectively collected and analyzed. After 8 weeks of continuous treatment with conventional full-dose prednisone, urine protein detection was performed. Urine protein (+-+++) was listed as drug-resistant group, and urine protein (-) was regarded as control group. The general data, pathological types, and laboratory indicators were compared. Univariate analysis and Logistic regression analysis were used to screen the risk factors for hormone resistance in children with nephrotic syndrome. Results (1) After the end of 8 weeks of treatment, among the 510 children, there were 19 children with urine protein (+), 22 children with urine protein (++), 12 children with urinary protein (+++) and 457 children with urine protein (-). The total number of children with hormone resistance (drug-resistant group) was 53 cases (10.39%, 53/510), and the number of children with hormone sensitivity (control group) was 457 cases (89.61%, 457/510). (2) The proportions of children with onset age>8 years old and pathological type of focal stage glomerulosclerosis in drug-resistant group were higher than those in control group (P<0.05). (3) Univariate analysis showed that the urine protein, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, white blood cell count, CD8, serum creatinine, urea nitrogen, D-dimer and β2-microglobulin at disease onset were higher in drug-resistant group than those in control group (P<0.05) while the CD4 and 25-hydroxyvitamin at disease onset were lower than those in control group (P<0.05). (4) Multivariate analysis showed that high urine protein, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, CD₈, serum creatinine, D-dimer and β2-microglobulin, and low 25-hydroxyvitamin and CD₄ at disease onset were risk factors for hormone resistance in children with nephrotic syndrome (P<0.05). Conclusion For children with onset age later than 8 years old and high urine protein, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, CD₈, serum creatinine, D-dimer and β2-microglobulin and low 25-hydroxyvitamin and CD₄ at disease onset, it is necessary to take targeted anticoagulation, immune regulation and other treatments as soon as possible in order to achieve the best efficacy and improve the prognosis.

Objective: To study the correlation between electronic screen use and myopia among primary and secondary school students in six provinces and cities in China, in order to provide a scientific basis for comprehensive prevention and control of myopia. Methods: From November 2020 to June 2022, a total of 16 557 primary and secondary school students from six provinces and cities in China (Beijing City, Liaoning Province, Zhejiang Province, Henan Province, Shaanxi Province, Chongqing City) were selected by stratified cluster random sampling and probability smampling methods, and a questionnaire prepared by Beijing Center for Disease Control and Prevention was used to investigate their electronic screen use. According to Screening Criteria for Myopia in Children and Adolescents, 0.5% mass concentration of compound topicamide eye drops was used to paralyze the ciliary muscle and undergo slit lamp optometry. Chisquare test was used to compare the differences between groups, and binary Logistic regression was used to analyze the association between electronic screen use and myopia. Results: About 58.3% of primary and secondary school students used electronic screens for more than two hours a day on average, and 63.4% of primary and secondary school students used continuously electronic products for more than 15 minutes at a time for nonstudy purposes. After adjusting for confounding factors, parents unrestricted use of electronic screen time and electronic screen time ≥2 h/d were positively correlated with myopia (OR=1.27, 1.13, P<0.05). Gender stratified analysis showed that boys who used electronic screen time ≥2 h/d had a higher risk of myopia (OR=1.15, P<0.05). The results of grade stratification analysis showed that parents unrestricted electronic screen use time and electronic screen time ≥2 h/d were positively correlated with myopia in the lower grade of primary school students (OR=1.34, 1.18, P<0.05). Among the higher grade of primary school students, continuous use of electronic screens for nonstudy purposes for more than 15 minutes at one time was positively correlated with myopia (OR=1.18, P<0.05). There was a multiplicative interaction between total screen time and one continuous screen time (OR=1.04, P<0.05). Conclusions Primary and secondary students in six provinces and cities in China reports excessive electronic screen usage which is associated with myopia. Schools and parents should jointly limit the use of electronic screen among primary and secondary students to reduce the occurrence of myopia.

Palliative care not only embodies modern life perspectives, but also encompasses significant traditional Chinese cultural elements.The primary objective of palliative care is to alleviate patient suffering, preserve their dignity, and facilitate a peaceful passing.Traditional Chinese medicine, known for its simplicity, accessibility, affordability, and efficacy in disease prevention and treatment, adopts a holistic approach to address systemic pain through personalized treatment based on symptom differentiation.This approach aims to enhance the quality of life for terminally ill patients.To equip palliative care providers with essential clinical skills in traditional Chinese medicine, the National Center of Gerontology and Beijing Palliative Care Guidance Center collaborated with experts and scholars to develop guidelines focusing on common end-of-life symptoms.Through extensive deliberation, expert evaluation, and revisions, this guidance document was crafted as a valuable resource for palliative care practitioners, traditional Chinese medicine clinicians, and researchers in the field.

Objective: To understand the prevalence and related factors of tobacco use among junior high school students in Beijing, so as to provide evidence to effectively conduct tobacco control intervention strategy. Methods: From April to June in 2019 and 2023, 6 489 and 6 898 junior high school students were selected by the probability proportion to size(PPS) method, and a total of 13 387 questionnaires were completed. Questionnaire on tobacco monitoring among junior high school students in Beijing was completed by selffilling. The monitoring content included demographic information, secondhand smoke exposure, tobacco product use, tobacco awareness, etc. Chisquare test was used to compare the difference of various indicators in different groups, and multivariate Logistic regression analysis was adopted to analysis the influencing factors related to the current smoking among junior high school students. Results: In 2019,the current traditional cigarettes and ecigarette smoking rates among junior high school students in Beijing were 1.34%, 1.88%, respectively, and decreased to 0.81%, 1.06% in 2023 (χ2=8.36, 15.17, P＜0.01). The attempted traditional cigarettes and ecigarette smoking rates among junior high school students in Beijing decreased from 6.67%, 6.47% in 2019 to 3.93%, 4.16% in 2023 (χ2=49.99, 35.26, P＜0.01). In 2019, the secondhand smoke exposure rates of junior high school students at homes, indoor public places, and outdoor public places were 31.04%, 44.94%, and 49.88% respectively which decreased to 22.59%, 30.23%, and 36.14% in 2023 (χ2=121.63, 308.60, 257.41, P<0.01). In 2023, male students (OR=2.88), senior students (grade 2 and 3) (OR=4.37, 4.92), disposable pocket money>20 yuan/week (OR=2.01), secondhand smoke exposure at home (OR=2.74), indoor public places (OR=2.64), perception that smoking makes young people more attractive (OR=6.29), and perception that ecigarettes help quit smoking (OR=4.31) were associated with higher tobacco use (P<0.05). Conclusions Tobacco use and secondhand smoke among junior high school students in Beijing decrease significantly. Tobacco control interventions should be provided for junior high school students continuously with a focus on ecigarettes use to promote physical and mental health development among students.

OBJECTIVE To explore the mechanism of modified Xianfang huoming decoction in the treatment of sepsis- induced liver injury from the perspective of gut microbiota and metabolites. METHODS Sixty SD rats were divided into blank group （normal saline）， model group （normal saline）， positive control drug group （Dexamethasone tablet， 5.0 mg/kg）， modified Xianfang huoming decoction high-dose， middle-dose and low-dose groups （6.0， 3.0， 1.5 g/kg， calculated by crude drug） according to equilibrium-partitioning approach of body mass， with 10 rats in each group. They were given relevant drug/normal saline 10 mL/ kg， once a day， for consecutive 14 days. After the last medication， except for blank group， other groups were given intraperitoneal injection of lipopolysaccharide 10 mg/kg to induce sepsis model. Twelve hours after modeling， serum levels of inflammatory indexes in rats [interleukin-1β （IL-1β）， IL-6， tumor necrosis factor-α （TNF-α）] and liver function indicators [total cholesterol （TC）， triglyceride （TG）， aspartate transaminase （AST）， alanine transaminase （ALT）] were detected. The changes of gut microbiota and liver metabolites in rats were analyzed by 16S rRNA technology and liver metabolomics. RESULTS Modified Xianfang huoming decoction could significantly improve the indexes of serum inflammatory indexes and liver function in rats with sepsis-induced liver injury （P＜0.05 or P＜0.01）； there was a significant callback effect on the relative abundance of 11 genera of bacteria （such as Akkermansia， Lactobacillus and Bilophila） among the 5 dominant phyla（P＜0.05 or P＜0.01）. Twelve metabolites related to liver injury caused by sepsis were identified， such as glycine cholic acid， phosphatidylcholine， taurine （P＜0.05 or P＜0.01）， mainly involving glycerol phospholipid metabolism， purine metabolism and primary bile acid metabolism. CONC LUSIONS Modified Xianfang huoming decoction can improve liver injury induced by sepsis by regulating gut microbiota and liver metabolites.

Objective To construct an evaluation index system for the capability of comprehensive control of mountain-type zoonotic visceral leishmaniasis based on the One Health concept, so as to provide insights into the control and elimination of mountain-type zoonotic visceral leishmaniasis using the One Health approach. Methods A preliminary evaluation index system was constructed based on literature review, panel discussions and field surveys. Thirty-three experts were selected from 7 provincial disease control and prevention centers in Beijing Municipality, Hebei Province, Shanxi Province, Henan Province, Sichuan Province, Shaanxi Province and Gansu Province where mountain-type zoonotic visceral leishmaniasis was endemic, and two rounds of expert consultations were conducted to screen the indicators. The positive coefficient, degree of concentration, degree of coordination, and authority of the experts were calculated, and the normalized weights of each index were calculated with the analytic hierarchy process. Results The response rates of questionnaires during two rounds of expert consultation were both 100.00% (33/33), and the authority coefficients of the experts were 0.86 and 0.88, respectively. The coefficients of coordination among experts on the rationality, importance, and operability of the indicators were 0.392, 0.437, 0.258, and 0.364, 0.335, 0.263, respectively (all P values < 0.05). Following screening, the final evaluation index system included 3 primary indicators, 17 secondary indicators, and 50 tertiary indicators. The normalized weights of primary indicators “external environment”, “internal support” and “comprehensive control” were 16.98%, 38.73% and 44.29%, respectively. Among the secondary indicators of the primary indicator “external environment”, the highest weight was seen for natural environment (66.67%), and among the secondary indicators of the primary indicator “internal support”, the lowest weight was seen for the scientific research for visceral leishmaniasis control (8.26%), while other indicators had weights of 12.42% to 13.38%. Among the secondary indicators of the primary indicator “comprehensive control”, the weight was 16.67% for each indicator. Conclusions An evaluation index system has been constructed for the capability of comprehensive control of mountain-type zoonotic visceral leishmaniasis based on the One Health concept. In addition to assessment of the effect of conventional mountain-type zoonotic visceral leishmaniasis control measures, this index system integrates the importance of top-level design, organizational management, and implementation of control measures, and includes indicators related to multi-sectoral cooperation.
