BackgroundPatients with schizophrenia are at high risk of suffering from metabolic syndrome. Most previous studies on the influencing factors of metabolic syndrome focused on the inpatients and limited ones on patients dwelling in community. ObjectiveTo explore the influencing factors at different risk levels of metabolic syndrome in community-dwelling patients with schizophrenia in Guangzhou, so as to provide references for future interventions on metabolic syndrome in this patient population. MethodsIn November 2021, 3 339 patients with schizophrenia who were registered in and administered by Guangzhou Mental Health Information System were included. All these patients had finished the physical examination in 2020, and whether they had metabolic syndrome was assessed basing on Guideline for the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in China (2020 edition). Patients were divided into high-risk group (n=423), critical group (n=1 524) and metabolic syndrome group (n=1 392) according to the Chinese expert consensus on the management of metabolic syndrome in patients with schizophrenia. Multiple logistic regression analysis were performed on the risk factors of metabolic syndrome in community-dwelling patients with schizophrenia. ResultsThe prevalence rate of metabolic syndrome in community-dwelling patients with schizophrenia was 41.69%. Univariate analysis showed that the results in gender (χ2=44.610), age (χ2=55.992), marriage status (χ2=30.755), illness course (χ2=25.913) and body mass index (χ2=829.265) were significantly different among the three groups (P<0.01). Kruskal-Wallis H test showed that the levels of waist circumference (H=920.331), systolic blood pressure (H=436.673), diastolic blood pressure (H=393.337), fasting blood glucose (H=807.304), triglyceride (H=1 134.125) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (H=593.615) among the three groups were significantly different (P<0.01). Logistic regression analysis showed that age ≥50 (OR=1.761, 95% CI: 1.087~2.853), overweight (OR=2.418, 95% CI: 1.862~3.140) and obesity (OR=57.903, 95% CI: 14.340~233.802) were risk factors contributing to high-risk patients becoming critical population (P<0.05 or 0.01). Female gender (OR=1.295, 95% CI: 1.034~1.622), aged 40~49 (OR=2.597, 95% CI: 1.582~4.263), age ≥50 (OR=4.392, 95% CI: 2.609~7.395), overweight (OR=7.844, 95% CI: 6.018~10.223) and obesity (OR=426.785, 95% CI: 105.724~1 722.839) were risk factors for high-risk patients developing into metabolic syndrome population (P<0.05 or 0.01). ConclusionThe prevalence rate of metabolic syndrome is higher in community-dwelling patients with schizophrenia. Female gender, older age, overweight and obesity would increase the risk of metabolic syndrome in schizophrenic patients. Human epidermal growth factor (hEGF) is a typical member of the growth factor family that activates epidermal growth factor receptors. It is synthesized and secreted by multiple tissues and organs of the human body, regulating the cell proliferation, differentiation and migration via binding to receptors and activating a series of signaling pathways. In recent years, the research on hEGF has been extended to its role in human physiology and pathology, especially in tissue regeneration and wound healing. This paper reviews the research progress of hEGF, briefly describes its gene and protein structure and characteristics, mechanisms and biological effects, with the emphasis on the roles and influences in the healing of gastrointestinal ulcers, skin wound repair and tumor pathology.

Objective:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of thalidomide on preventing and treating radiation-induced oral mucositis (RIOM) in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Methods:A total of 60 patients with NPC were randomly divided into treatment group and control group. The treatment group took thalidomide and gargled with mixture of saline+gentamycin+dexamethasone when ra-diotherapy started, and the control group gargled only with mixture of saline+gentamycin+dexamethasone. The time of occurrence and degree of RIOM in both groups were registered at the same time. Results:The incidence of RIOM in treatment group was lower than that in control group (P<0.05). For the incidence of 3 or 4 grade RIOM, the treatment group was also lower than the control group. No statistical difference in terms of objective response rate was found between the two groups (P>0.05). There was no statisti-cally significant difference between the treatment group and the control group in the oral average dose, V30, V35, V40, V45, V50, and V54 (P>0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between the treatment group and the control group in the use of nutri-tion agents, hormones and antibiotics (P>0.05). There was no statistical difference between the groups in the drowsiness, peripheral nerve toxicity, hematologic toxicity and gastrointestinal reaction (P>0.05). Conclusion:Thalidomide can reduce the incidence and se-verity of RIOM for radiotherapy of patients with NPC, which deserves clinic application.

Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2015;(31):5046-5050
BACKGROUND:Knee joint is the most complicated structure of human body, and X-ray is often used to reflect the stenosis of knee compartment. However, radiographs are two-dimensional projection of three-dimensional joint structure. Thus, different joint shooting locations can impact the outcomes of measurement, and it is difficult to ensure the accuracy of repeated measurements. OBJECTIVE:To build three-dimensional model of knee compartment, measure the distance and volume, and provide the basis for subsequent models, biomechanics and relevant clinical studies. METHODS:Based on the principle of reverse engineering, using CT images of the knee joint and the software of Mimics, three-dimensional model of medial compartment knee structure was reconstructed. After the model was imported and smoothed, the medial and lateral compartment volumes were finaly calculated by the software of Geomagic Studio. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Three-dimensional model of the knee compartment, including femur, tibia and fibula, was successfuly structured by CT images. The models of knee and knee compartment could be observed at any angle or observed individualy, and could be measured. It was discovered that the volume of medial and lateral compartments of knee is close, although the joint space width of them is different, which ilustrates that the procedure can accurately reflect the degree of knee joint space width in the round by calculating the volume of medial and lateral compartments of knee joint through computer.

This study aims to develop a liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method for the simultaneous determination of ivabradine and N-demethylivabradine in human plasma, and investigate effects of stable isotope labeled (SIL) internal standard (IS) on ivabradine. The analytes and IS were extracted from plasma by protein precipitation with acetonitrile, and chromatographied on a Capcell PAK C18 (100 mm x 4.6 mm, 5 μm) column using a mobile phase of methanol and 5 mmol x L(-1) ammonium acetate. Multiple reaction monitoring with electrospray ionization (ESI) was used in the positive mode for mass spectrometric detection. The effect of ivabradine isotope peak [M+H+3] + on IS and the effect of SIL IS purity on ivabradine were evaluated. An appropriate concentration of SIL IS was chosen to permit method selectivity and linearity of the assay over the required range. The standard curves were demonstrated to be linear in the range of 0.100 to 60.0 ng x mL(-1) for ivabradine, and 0.050 0 to 20.0 ng x mL(-1) for N-demethylivabradine. The intra and inter day precision and accuracy were within the acceptable limits for all concentrations. Besides, the interaction between IS and ivabradine did not impact the determination of analytes. This method was successfully applied to a pharmacokinetic study of hydrogen sulfate ivabradine sustained release tablets on Chinese healthy volunteers.
