1.Correlation between depressive symptom and traditional Chinese medicine constitution among school aged children and adolescents
Chinese Journal of School Health 2025;46(9):1222-1225
Objective:
To explore the correlation between traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) constitution and depressive symptom among school aged children and adolescents, so as to provide evidences for informing constitution based regulation and prevention of depressive symptom.
Methods:
From June to December 2024, a total of 4 729 students aged 6-14 were recruited by cluster random sampling from 10 primary schools in Baoding (Hebei Province), Heze and Liaocheng (Shandong Province). General information, TCM constitution and depressive symptom were collected. Restricted cubic spline (RCS) models were used to analyze related factors and threshold effects of depressive symptom. Binary Logistic regression was applied to examine the association between depressive symptom and TCM constitution, with subgroup analyses conducted.
Results:
The detection rate of depressive symptom among the included children and adolescents was 25.82%. RCS analyses indicated non linear associations between depressive symptom and age (inflection point at 10 years old), bedtime (inflection point at 22:00), and wake up time (inflection point at 6:30 ) (all P non linearity <0.01). Linear associations were observed with body mass index (BMI) and sleep duration (all P non linearity > 0.05 ). After adjusting for covariates such as age, BMI and sleep status, binary Logistic regression analyses showed that Yin deficient constitution ( OR =1.26, 95% CI =1.09-1.45) and Phlegm-dampness constitution ( OR =1.42, 95% CI =1.11-1.82) were significantly associated with depressive symptom among children and adolescents (all P <0.05).
Conclusions
Depressive symptom among school aged children and adolescents is primarily associated with Yin deficiency and Phlegm dampness constitutions in TCM constitution. Active attention should be paid to susceptible TCM constitution among children and adolescents. Targeted health guidance and interventions should be implemented to improve TCM constitution health status for preventing the occurrence of depressive symptom.

Objective:To develop a simple, rapid, and convenient analysis method for the identification of breast cancer and its molecular sub-types.Methods:A laser confocal Raman spectrometer was used to collect Raman spectrograms of normal breast cells and different molecular sub-types of breast cancer cells, and assign the material origin of the Raman spectral peaks. First, Savitzky-Golay smoothing (with a window size of 9) was selected to perform smoothing and denoising on the Raman spectrogram. Subsequently, an iterative adaptive weighted penalty least squares method was employed for baseline correction, and principal component analysis was used to eliminate outliers. The recognition model of normal breast cells and breast cancer cells and the recognition model of different molecular sub-types of breast cancer cells were established by using three algorithms with different principles, including partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA), K-nearest neighbor (KNN), and support vector machine (SVM).Results:The Raman spectrogram and Raman peak shifts of normal breast cells and breast cancer cells were similar, but there were significant differences in intensity. The results of the machine learning models showed that the recognition accuracy of PLS-DA and SVM algorithms for distinguishing between normal breast cells and breast cancer cells was above 92.03% and 90.67%, respectively. The recognition accuracy of PLS-DA and SVM algorithms for different molecular sub-types of breast cancer cells was (83.66 ± 2.77)% and (90.55 ± 0.06)%, respectively. Conclusions:The combination of Raman spectroscopy and machine learning algorithms can achieve accurate identification of normal breast cells, breast cancer cells, and different molecular sub-types of breast cancer cells.

Objective:To understand the infection status, epidemiological characteristics and drug resistance of Diarrheagenic Escherichia coli (DEC) in Shanghai and provide evidence for the disease surveillance. Methods:The epidemiological data of diarrhea cases in Shanghai from 2016 to 2022 were collected from Shanghai Diarrhea Comprehensive Surveillance System, and stool samples were collected from the cases for DEC detection. The drug resistance data was obtained from Chinese Pathogen Identification Network. Statistical analysis was conducted by using χ2 and fisher test. Results:In 24 883 diarrhea cases detected during 2016-2022, the DEC positive rate was 9.13% (2 271/24 883), the single DEC positive rate was 8.83% (2 197/24 883) and the mixed DEC positive rate was 0.30% (74/24 883). The main type of DEC was Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) [4.33% (1 077/24 883)]. The DEC positive rate was highest in people aged ≤5 years 18.48% (22/119). The annual peak of DEC positive rate was observed during July - September [5.91% (1 470/24 883)]. The DEC positive rate were 9.47% (554/5 847) and 9.02% (1 717/19 036) in urban area and in suburbs, respectively, Enteroaggregative Escherichia coli (EAEC) [3.98% (233/5 847)] and ETEC [4.56% (868/19 036)] were mainly detected. From 2016 to 2019, the DEC positive rate was 9.42% (1 821/19 330), while it was 8.10% (450/5 553) from 2020 to 2022, the main DEC types were ETEC (4.87%, 941/19 330) and EAEC (4.70%, 261/5 553). The multi-drug resistance rate was 40.21% (618/1 537). The top three antibiotics with high drug resistance rates were ampicillin [64.74% (995/1 537)], nalidixic acid [58.49% (899/1 537)] and tetracycline [45.09% (693/1 537)]. Conclusions:Compared with 2016- 2019, a decrease in DEC detection rate was observed during 2020-2022, and the main type of DEC detected shifted from ETEC to EAEC. The prevalence of multi-drug resistance was severe. Therefore, it is necessary to further strengthen the surveillance for DEC drug resistance and standardize the use of clinical antibiotics.

Objective:To investigate the status of vertebral compression fracture (VCF) in elderly patients with osteoporosis and analyze its influencing factors. Methods:A total of 222 elderly patients with osteoporosis admitted to Department of Spinal Surgery in Affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical University from March 2019 to March 2023 were selected as the research objects by the convenient sampling method, and clinical data of the patients were collected. Patients were divided into VCF group ( n=98) and non-VCF group ( n=124) based on whether or not VCF occurred. Logistic regression was used to analyze the influencing factors of VCF in elderly patients with osteoporosis. Results:The incidence of VCF in 222 elderly patients with osteoporosis was 44.1% (98/222). The results of Logistic regression analysis showed that a history of falls ( OR=2.968, 95% CI: 1.154-7.736, P=0.024), no history of osteoporosis drug treatment ( OR=4.707, 95% CI: 1.525-14.531, P=0.007), body mass index>24.0 kg/m 2 ( OR=4.586, 95% CI: 2.071-10.158, P<0.001), lower bone density T values ( OR=3.221, 95% CI: 2.194-4.731, P<0.001) and low albumin ( OR=0.828, 95% CI: 0.752-0.913, P<0.001) were risk factors for VCF in elderly patients with osteoporosis. Conclusions:The incidence of vertebral compression fracture is high in elderly patients with osteoporosis, among which a history of falls, no history of osteoporosis drug treatment, body mass index greater than 24 kg/m 2, lower bone density T-values and low albumin are the main influencing factors that affect the occurrence of vertebral compression fracture in elderly patients with osteoporosis. Clinical medical staff should pay attention to these risk factors, identify the risk of fractures in elderly patients early and take targeted intervention measures.

10.Yun shou tai chi with visual feedback can improve the balance of stroke survivors
Chinese Journal of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation 2023;45(7):614-619
Objective:To observe any effect of Yun shou tai chi training with visual feedback on the balance of persons who have survived a stroke.Methods:Fifty-six stroke survivors were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, each of 28. Both groups were given routine balance function training, while the observation group was additionally given Yun shou tai chi training with visual feedback. Before and after the four weeks of training, the subjects′ balance and posture were evaluated using a Nomex visual feedback balance system. Lower limb strength was evaluated with a microFET2 portable muscle strength tester. The Berg Balance Scale (BBS), Timed Up and Go Test (TUGT), 10-metre walk times (10MWTs) and the modified Barthel Index (MBI) were also applied. Results:After the training the average BBS, TUGT, 10MWT and MBI results of the observation group had improved significantly. Among the control group only TUGT times and MBI scores had improved significantly, but even then the average MBI score of the observation group was significantly higher. The training improved the strength of the trainees′ quadriceps femoris (QUA), tibialis anterior (TA) and gastrocnemius (GAS) on the hemiplegic side. Their hamstrings and GAS on the non-hemiplegic side were also significantly stronger, on average. The improvement in the QUA of the hemiplegic side in the observation group was significantly better than the control group′s average improvement. The path length (PL) and the covered area (CA) in the observation group had decreased significantly after the training, while among the controls only the CA had decreased significantly. The average PL in the observation group was therefore significantly shorter than in the control group. Conclusion:Yun shou tai chi training with visual feedback can promote the recovery of balance function after a stroke. Such training is worthy of clinical promotion and application.
