Sepsis is a critical illness with high morbidity and mortality. Anaerobic glycolysis plays an important role in the pathogenesis of sepsis. Pyruvate dehydrogenase complex (PDHC) serves as a key regulator during sepsis. With PDHC dephosphorylation and deacetylation, PDHC activity is upregulated, allowing pyruvate translocate to mitochondria in aerobic condition, preceding the production of acetyl-CoA to accelerate aerobic oxidation. Activation of PDHC improves the prognosis of sepsis through regulating the balance of lactate, release of inflammatory factors and energy metabolism. A variety of remedies can improve the prognosis of patients with sepsis by up-regulating the activity of PDHC, including dichloroacetate (DCA), vitamin B1, milrinone, tumor necrosis factor binding protein, and ciprofloxacin. This article reviews the role and the regulatory mechanism of PDHC and signal pathway in the sepsis metabolism, in order to innovate treatment for sepsis and multiple organ dysfunction.

This paper aims to explore the feasibility of building a finite element model of left atrial diverticulum (LAD) using reverse engineering software based on computed tomography (CT) images. The study was based on a three-dimensional cardiac CT images of a atrial fibrillation patient with LAD. The left atrium and LAD anatomical features were accurately reproduced by using Geomagic Studio 12 and Mimics 15 reverse engineering software. In addition, one left atrial model with LAD and one without LAD were created with ANSYS finite element analysis software, and the validity of the two models were verified. The results show that it is feasible to establish the LAD finite element model based on cardiac three-dimensional CT images using reverse engineering software. The results of this paper will lay a theoretical foundation for further hemodynamic analysis of LAD.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS) on the quality of voice. METHODS Electroglottography (EGG) method was used for detecting the vocal cords vibration, waveforms of electroglottography and voice parameters such as Jitter, Shimmer, normalized noise energy (NNE), contact quotient(CQ), contact index (CI), contact quotient perturbation(CQP), contact index perturbation(CIP), and the in 82 OSAHS patients and 53 healthy subjects. The voice parameters were analyzed with Dr.Speech software, RESULTS While in normal pronunciation, the Jitter, Shimmer, NNE, CQP and CIP were (1.037±1.493)%, (5.627±1.872)%, (-16.109±1.719)dB, (2.638±0.633)% and (166.789±30.492)% in 22 mild OSAHS patients, (1.578±0.362)%, (8.478±1.635)%, (-11.517±1.614)dB, (6.043±0.936)% and (255.210±91.224)% in 24 moderate OSAHS patients, and (2.138±1.384)%, (14.888±4.089)%, (-7.677±2.151)dB, (11.749±7.164)% and (431.233±259.266)%in 36 severe OSAHS patients respectively. They were all higher than those in 53 normal subjects as (0.517±0.303)%, (3.299±2.196)%, (-21.933±5.477)dB, (1.322±0.942)% and (58.834±131.849)%. The regularity of vocal fold vibration in all patients with OSAHS was seriously out of whack. EGG waveform was irregular. CONCLUSION The OSAHS patients have structural changes in their upper airway, it will cause non-physiological breathing and lead dry of the vocal cord mucosa and weak elasticity. Their EGG parameters will get higher and vibration will be irregular seriously. We should pay attention to the voice qualities of the OSAHS patients and let them receive treatment as early as possible.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the role of N-Methyl-D-aspartic acid (NMDA)-type glutamate receptors in the central nucleus of the amygdale (CeA) in food and water intake.
METHODSMale Sprague-Dawley rats with stainless steel cannulae implanted unilaterally into the CeA were used. The prototypic NMDA receptor agonist NMDA, or the selective NMDA receptor antagonist D(-)-2-amino-5-phosphonopentanoic acid (D-AP-5) was microinjected into the CeA of satiated and euhydrated rats.
RESULTSIntra-CeA injection of 8.50, 17.00, or 34.00 nmol NMDA did not alter food intake but significantly increased water intake 0-1 h after the injection (F(3,32)=3.191, P=0.037) independent of food intake. Without affecting the food intake, injection of 6.34, 12.70, or 25.40 nmol D-AP-5 into the CeA significantly decreased water intake 0-1 h after the injection (F(3,28)=3.118, P=0.042) independent of food intake.
CONCLUSIONNMDA receptors in the CeA may participate in the control of water intake rather than food intake.
