Danggui Liuhuangtang is the 47th of the 100 famous classical formulas published by the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and is known as the holy medicine for night sweat. By bibliometrics, the authors collected the ancient books on Danggui Liuhuangtang and screened out 269 valid data, involving 156 ancient books of traditional Chinese medicine. The analysis on the historical origin, disease syndromes, pathogenesis, composition, dosage, preparation, usage, and processing of Danggui Liuhuangtang found that this famous classical formula originated from Secret Book of the Orchid Chamber (《兰室秘藏》) written by LI Dongyuan, and is composed of Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Rehmanniae Radix, Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex, Scutellariae Radix, Coptidis Rhizoma and Astragali Radix. It has the functions of nourishing Yin, reducing fire, consolidating exterior and stopping sweating, and mainly treats night sweat due to Yin deficiency and fire exuberance. In the later generations, disease syndromes are mostly treated based on LI Dongyuan's theory, and have expanded to more than 30 kinds (339 in total), among which night sweat (208) was the most, accounting for 61.36% of the total disease syndromes, followed by spontaneous sweating (38), accounting for 11.21%. Additionally, it was found that Danggui Liuhuangtang was widely used in modern clinical practice for various disease syndromes. Among them, endocrine disease (77, 28.21%) was predominant, followed by gynecological disease (48, 17.58%), and pediatric disease (24, 8.79%). Although Danggui Liuhuangtang treats many disease syndromes, their pathogenesis was always yin deficiency and fire exuberance. Through the systematic excavation of the ancient books on Danggui Liuhuangtang and the analysis of its modern clinical application, this paper probed into the historical evolution and confirmed the key information of the formula, providing detailed literature basis for the research and development application of famous classical formulas.

Objective To analyze the characteristics of imported malaria epidemic from overseas in Wuhan, to explore the management mechanism of on-site cases, and to accumulate experience for the treatment of imported malaria in large cities after malaria elimination. Methods The epidemiological data on imported malaria from abroad during the period of malaria elimination (2010-2019) in Wuhan were collected. The gender, age and severe illness-related factors of the cases were analyzed. Based on the characteristics of the epidemic and the current situation of prevention and control, the content and experience of the “Municipal-District 24-7” case mechanism were discussed. Results The medical resources in Wuhan were the best in the central region, resulting in a large number of imported malaria cases, with a total of 474 cases reported from 2010 to 2019 (40.79% of the total number of cases in Hubei Province), including 359 cases of falciparum malaria, 36 severe cases and one death (the death rate was 0.28%). The patients were mainly young and middle-aged men aged 20 to 49 years old (97.26%). There were many referral cases (40.30%), and there was no seasonal clustering of cases reported. The undiagnosed proportion at the first visit was 44.85%, and the time of attack-diagnosis was 4 days or more in 61.00% of cases. The occurrence of severe cases was related to unconfirmed diagnosis at the first visit (χ2=35.46, P<0.001) and attack-diagnosis time (Z=-6.49, P<0.001). Conclusion Imported malaria occurs frequently in Wuhan, mainly falciparum malaria. However, “Municipal-District 24-7” case mechanism has effectively curbed the occurrence of severe and death cases and provided valuable experience for case management in similar cities in China.

Journal of Public Health and Preventive Medicine 2022;33(4):79-82
Objective An epidemiological investigation was carried out on the first family cluster epidemic of psittacosis in Wuhan to provide scientific basis for the prevention and control of Chlamydia psittacosis. Methods Epidemiological data were collected by field epidemiological investigation methods, and pathogenic testing was carried out by collecting cases, suspected exposed persons, and environmental samples. Results The 2 cases in the same family stared with fever, headache and chills. The first case was treated in 5 medical institutions and hospitalized in 2 of them. The results of metagenomic next-generation sequencing in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid of the case indicated that it was infected with Chlamydia psittaci. Thirty environmental samples from cases and 3 pigeon farmers homes, 4 throat swabs from family members of pigeon farmers were collected, and 15 environmental samples were positive by real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction, all of which were in the cases' home and neighbor farmers' homes, including 8 pigeon feces smearing samples, 3 pigeon drinking residual water samples, 1 sand and corn eaten by pigeons, 1 tableware surface smearing sample, and 1 sample of external environment of the patient's home. Conclusions The family cluster epidemic of psittacosis was caused by exposure to the external environment contaminated by Chlamydia psittacosis. Poultry breeding should be regulated to prevent the spread of poultry infection to the human world. At the same time, the awareness of medical staff should be raised, and pathogenic testing should be carried out to confirm the diagnosis for avoiding the occurrence of severe cases and death.

Chinese Journal of Anesthesiology 2020;40(3):373-376
Objective:To evaluate the effect of esmolol on the expression of phosphorylated extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 (p-ERK1/2) during cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) in rats.Methods:Forty-eight clean-grade healthy adult male Sprague-Dawley rats, were allocated into 3 groups ( n=16 each) using a random number table method: sham operation group (Sham group), cerebral I/R group (I/R group) and esmolol group (E group). Cerebral I/R was induced by 3 cycles of 20-min occlusion of bilateral common carotid arteries followed by 10-min reperfusion in anesthetized rats.Esmolol 200 g·kg -1·min -1 was intravenously infused for 1 h starting from 30 min before ischemia, and the model was established after 30-min infusion in E group. The equal volume of normal saline was given at 30 min before ischemia in I/R group.Bilateral common carotid arteries were only isolated but not clamped, and the equal volume of normal saline was given after isolating bilateral common carotid arteries in Sham group.Learning and memory function was tested by Morris water maze test before ischemia and at 1, 3 and 7 days of reperfusion.Rats were sacrificed after Morris water maze test, and the hippocampus was excised for determination of wet to dry weight ratio (W/D ratio), permeability of blood-brain barrier (using Evans blue method), expression of ERK1/2 mRNA (by real-time polymerase chain reaction ), and expression of p-ERK1/2 (by Western blot). Results:Compared with Sham group, the escape latency and swimming distance were significantly prolonged at 1, 3 and 7 days of reperfusion, the W/D ratio and EB content in brain tissues were increased, and the expression of ERK1/2 mRNA and p-ERK1/2 was up-regulated in I/R and E groups ( P<0.05). Compared with I/R group, the escape latency and swimming distance were significantly shortened at 1, 3 and 7 days of reperfusion, the W/D ratio and EB content in brain tissues were decreased, and the expression of ERK1/2 mRNA and p-ERK1/2 was down-regulated in E group ( P<0.05). Conclusion:The mechanism by which esmolol alleviates cerebral I/R injury and improves cognitive function is related to inhibiting the up-regulated expression of ERK1/2 in rats.

Journal of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (Medical Sciences) 2012;32(5):774-778
This study evaluated the effects of early treatment with β-adrenergic blocker metoprolol on ventricular remodeling and function after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) by using high frequency ultrasound. The relationship between the efficacy and the expression level of cardiac myocardial inflammatory cytokine was examined in rats. The rat model of AMI was induced by ligating the left anterior descending artery. The surviving rats were randomly assigned to two experimental groups: MI control (MI) group and MI metoprolol (MI-B) group, with the rats undergoing sham operation serving as normal control (Sham). MI-B group was given metoprolol for 4 weeks (refer to the CCS-2 protocol) and the other two groups received equal volume of saline via intragastric (i.g.) administration. The ventricular remodeling and function were evaluated by high frequency ultrasound 4 weeks after the treatment. Then all rats were sacrificed for pathological examination and immunohistochemistrical detection of inflammatory cytokines, including IL-1β, IL-6, IL-10 and TNF-α. Compared with the MI group, the left ventricular end-systolic dimension, end-diastolic dimension, end-systolic volume and end-diastolic volume of the MI-B group were significantly decreased (P<0.01), while the left ventricular anterior wall end-diastolic thickness, ejection fraction and fractional shortening were obviously increased (P<0.01). The conspicuous improvement in the left ventricular morphology and function was coincident with the markedly reduced TNF-α and IL-1β expression and the increased IL-10 expression. We are led to conclude that early metoprolol treatment for AMI can regulate myocardial inflammatory cytokine expression to improve cardiac function and the underlying mechanism might be that it decreases the level of pro-inflammatory cytokines and increases the level of its anti-inflammatory counterparts in cardiac myocytes. Our study also showed that echocardiography is a useful technique for the structural and functional assessment of left ventricle after acute myocardial infarction.
