BackgroundPostpartum depression can affect the physical and mental health of mothers and the quality of parenting. Most Chinese women perform traditional postpartum practices (commonly known as "doing the month") after giving birth, while the existing findings are inconsistent and inconclusive regarding the potential of traditional Chinese postpartum practices to alleviate or exacerbate postpartum depression. ObjectiveTo explore the relationship between traditional Chinese postpartum practices and postpartum depression, so as to provide references for reducing the risk of postpartum depression. MethodsA total of 240 consecutive women who gave birth in the obstetrics department of the Mianyang Central Hospital and the Third Hospital of Mianyang from January to May 2024 were selected. Data were collected using Self-designed General Information Questionnaire, Chinese version of the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS), the Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS), the Patient Health Questionnaire-15 (PHQ-15), the Adherence to Doing-the-Month Practices questionnaire (ADP), and the Self-compiled Questionnaire on the Cognition of Doing-the-Month. The absolute value (A value) of the difference between scores of ADP and Cognition of Doing-the-Month Questionnaire was calculated to evaluate the degree of cognitive behavioral conflict of postpartum women. Pearson correlation analysis was performed to examine the correlations of EPDS score with SSRS score, PHQ-15 score, ADP total and dimensional scores, Cognition of Doing-the-Month Questionnaire total and dimensional scores, and A value. Logistic regression analysis was conducted to identify the protective and risk factors for developing postpartum depression. ResultsThe postpartum depression was detected in 22.50% of women. The postpartum women had a EPDS score of (6.21±5.00), ADP score of (70.05±20.57), SSRS score of (41.96±6.96), PHQ-15 score of (4.63±3.77), and Cognition of Doing-the-Month questionnaire score of (40.30±10.13). The A value was (0.65±0.58). Correlation analysis revealed that EPDS score was negatively correlated with the total ADP score and the four dimensional scores of the restrictions on social activities, diet, housework, and personal hygiene (r=-0.228, -0.146, -0.184, -0.275, -0.168, P<0.05 or 0.01), and positively correlated with the A value (r=0.161, P<0.05). Logistic regression analysis indicated that restriction on housework dimension in ADP was entered into the model (OR=0.930, 95% CI: 0.885~0.978). ConclusionThe restriction on housework dimension in traditional Chinese postpartum practices may be a protective factor against postpartum depression.

OBJECTIVE:Chronic ankle instability is mainly characterized by symptoms such as muscle weakness, intermittent pain, and repeated sprains, which seriously affect exercise and daily life.Loss of proprioception, prolongation of fibular reaction time, and weakening of valgus force may be the main symptoms of chronic ankle instability,so exercise intervention can effectively improve the symptoms related to ankle instability.Meta-analysis was used to quantitatively evaluate the effect of balance training on the rehabilitation intervention of chronic ankle instability, providing a reliable theoretical basis and practical basis for chronic ankle instability patients to scientifically formulate exercise prescriptions. METHODS:The randomized controlled trial of balance training on symptom rehabilitation and dynamic equilibrium of patients with chronic ankle instability was retrieved on CNKI,VIP,Web of Science, and PubMed.The literature was published from the inception to November 23,2022.Two reviewers were included to evaluate the quality of the included literature based on the physical therapy evidence scale. The primary outcome measure is the Self Functional Rating Scale, and the secondary outcome measure is the Star Shift Balance Test, both of which are continuous variables.Forest mapping,meta-regression,subgroup analysis, sensitivity analysis, and publication bias evaluation were performed on the included literature using RevMan 5.3 and Stata-SE 15 software. RESULTS:(1)A total of 18 articles of randomized controlled trials were screened and 641 patients with chronic ankle instability were included in the study.Overall, the methodological quality of the literature was relatively high.(2)Meta-analysis results showed that balance training improved the functional rehabilitation effect of chronic ankle instability patients(SMD=0.82,95%CI:0.41-1.23,P<0.000 1).Meta-regression exhibited that intervention time might be the main reason for heterogeneity(P=0.008).(3)The subgroup analysis results revealed that 6 weeks of intervention(SMD=0.98,95%CI:0.31-1.65,P=0.03),more than 3 interventions per week(SMD=0.87,95%CI:0.30-1.44,P=0.003),and each intervention time less than 20 minutes(SMD=0.89,95%CI:0.61-1.66,P<0.000 1)were the best rehabilitation plans to improve the functional rehabilitation effect of chronic ankle instability patients.(4)Meta-analysis results also showed that balance training improved the stretching degree of the anterior side(SMD=0.56,95%CI:0.31-0.80,P<0.05),posterior inner side(SMD=0.88,95%CI:0.45-1.32,P<0.05),and posterior outer side(SMD=0.84,95%CI:0.22-1.46,P<0.05)of the star shift balance test. CONCLUSION:Current clinical evidence shows that balance training can improve ankle instability symptoms and elevate dynamic equilibrium ability in chronic ankle instability patients. It is recommended to intervene more than 3 times a week, with each intervention lasting less than 20 minutes,to achieve better rehabilitation effects.

Ketone bodies have beneficial metabolic activities, and the induction of plasma ketone bodies is a health promotion strategy. Dietary supplementation of sodium butyrate (SB) is an effective approach in the induction of plasma ketone bodies. However, the cellular and molecular mechanisms are unknown. In this study, SB was found to enhance the catalytic activity of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA synthase 2 (HMGCS2), a rate-limiting enzyme in ketogenesis, to promote ketone body production in hepatocytes. SB administrated by gavage or intraperitoneal injection significantly induced blood ß-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) in mice. BHB production was induced in the primary hepatocytes by SB. Protein succinylation was altered by SB in the liver tissues with down-regulation in 58 proteins and up-regulation in 26 proteins in the proteomics analysis. However, the alteration was mostly observed in mitochondrial proteins with 41% down- and 65% up-regulation, respectively. Succinylation status of HMGCS2 protein was altered by a reduction at two sites (K221 and K358) without a change in the protein level. The SB effect was significantly reduced by a SIRT5 inhibitor and in Sirt5-KO mice. The data suggests that SB activated HMGCS2 through SIRT5-mediated desuccinylation for ketone body production by the liver. The effect was not associated with an elevation in NAD+/NADH ratio according to our metabolomics analysis. The data provide a novel molecular mechanism for SB activity in the induction of ketone body production.

The transcription factor nuclear factor of kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB) is expressed in brown adipocytes, but its role remains largely unknown in the cells. This issue was addressed in current study by examining NF-κB in brown adipocytes in vitro and in vivo. NF-κB activity was increased by differentiation of brown adipocytes through elevation of p65 (RelA) expression. The transcriptional activity of NF-κB was induced by the cold stimulation with an elevation in S276 phosphorylation of p65 protein. Inactivation of NF-κB in brown adipocytes made the knockout mice [uncoupling protein 1 (Ucp1)-CreER-p65f/f, U-p65-KO] intolerant to the cold environment. The brown adipocytes exhibited an increase in apoptosis, a decrease in cristae density and uncoupling activity in the interscapular brown adipose tissue (iBAT) of p65-KO mice. The alterations became severer after cold exposure of the KO mice. The brown adipocytes of mice with NF-κB activation (p65 overexpression, p65-OE) exhibited a set of opposite alterations with a reduction in apoptosis, an increase in cristae density and uncoupling activity. In mechanism, NF-κB inhibited expression of the adenine nucleotide translocase 2 (ANT2) in the control of apoptosis. Data suggest that NF-κB activity is increased in brown adipocytes by differentiation and cold stimulation to protect the cells from apoptosis through down-regulation of ANT2 expression.

Journal of Central South University(Medical Sciences) 2021;46(10):1071-1079
OBJECTIVES:
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) has become a key epigenetic regulator that regulates gene expression and affects a variety of biological processes. LncRNA plays an important role in the occurrence and development of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The study on lncRNA in peripheral blood cells of RA patients has been reported. However, there is no study on autophagy regulation by lncRNA in RA patients. This study aims to provide a new direction for the diagnosis and treatment of RA via screening the changes of lncRNAs in RA fibroblast-like synoviocytes (RA-FLSs) before and after autophagy and finding the key lncRNAs targeting RA-FLSs autophagy.
METHODS:
Synovial tissues of 6 RA patients after knee and hip joint surgery were obtained, and RA-FLSs were cultured to the 5th generation for further experiments (tissue culture method). After treatment with mTOR inhibitor PP242, the expression of LC3-II was detected by Western blotting. Total RNAs of 3 cases of RA-FLSs before and after treatment with mTOR inhibitor PP242 were extracted by TRIzol and screened by Agilent Human ceRNA Microarray 2019 (4×180 K, design ID: 086188) chip. The lncRNAs with significantly changed expression levels were selected (difference multiple≥2.0,
RESULTS:
RA-FLSs were successfully isolated and cultured from the synovial tissues of the patient's knee or hip joint. After 6 RA-FLSs were treated with PP242, the expression level of autophagy marker protein LC3-II was increased (
CONCLUSIONS
Differentially expressed lncRNAs in RA-FLSs have been identified with microarray analysis. In RA, differential expression of lncRNAs is involved in the autophagy of RA-FLSs. The underlying mechanisms based on bioinformatics analysis include regulating the secretion of cytokines, such as IL-6, TGF-β, TNF-α and IL-17, participating in the immune cell differentiation, such as Th17, Th1, Th2 cells and osteoclasts, as well as regulating the autophagy pathway, MAPK, FoxO, and other signaling pathways. It has been verified that the expression of ENST0000584721.1 is up-regulated and ENST0000615939.1 is down-regulated after autophagy of RA FLSs, which provides a good experimental basis for further study on the mechanism of lncRNA in RA-FLSs autophagy.

Chinese Journal of Neuromedicine 2021;20(6):644-648
At present, the most commonly used surgical measures for treatment of severe traumatic brain injury (sTBI) mainly include external ventricular puncture and drainage (EVD), decompressive craniectomy (DC), intracranial hematoma clearance and intracerebral decompression of contusion and laceration. All of these procedures can reduce intracranial pressure (ICP) and mortality, but they have the disadvantage of high postoperative adverse functional outcomes. With further study of glyymphatic system and intracranial microsurgery, some scholars have proposed a new neurosurgical technique: cisternostomy, which could achieve good results in the treatment of some refractory intracranial hypertension patients with sTBI. In this paper, we will summarize the recent advance in cisternostomy in the treatment of sTBI by reviewing the relevant literature at domestic and abroad in recent years, including the systematic evaluation of its pathophysiological basis, surgical techniques, surgical indications and contraindications, and surgical efficacy.

China is the world′s largest producer and user of dyes. The mass production and widespread use of disperse azo dyes led to environmental pollutions and potential human health risks. Azo dyes in environmental media (i.e., water, soil, air, and dust), food and clothing can enter the human body through multiple exposure routes, and some of them can be metabolized to produce more toxic metabolites, which can trigger toxic effects such as allergic reactions, tumor formation, and endocrine disruptions. This study systematically reviewed the production and use of azo dyes, environmental concentrations, human exposures, toxic effects and their underlying mechanisms, and regulations and standards. Meanwhile, the research trends of azo dyes were also discussed.

Objective:To explore the causes and precaution procedures of olfactory dysfunction after transsphenoidal surgery for pituitary lesions. Methods:The clinical data of 72 patients underwent transsphenoidal surgery for pituitary lesions in our hospital from November 2016 to May 2018 were summarized. Resection under microscope was performed in 27 patients and resection under endoscope in 45 patients. The olfactory function of patients with postoperative olfactory disorders was evaluated one and 6 months after surgery. Bilateral nasal passages were examined by nasal endoscopy 3-6 months after surgery. Whether intraoperative operations were related to olfactory impairment was analyzed. Results:There were seven hyposmic/anosmic patients; three patients (6.7%) were operated via endoscopic approach and four patients (14.8%) were operated via microscopic transsphenoidal approach; incidence of olfactory dysfunction between the two groups showed no statistical difference ( P>0.05). One month after operation, two patients had a slight decrease in olfactory function, 4 had a severe decrease in olfactory function and one had anosmia. Six months after the operation, two patients with severe hypoxia got improvment, but failed to return to normal level; and the rest of the patients showed no significant improvement. Three-6 months after operation, nasal endoscopic examination found that all patients had healed nasal wound, two patients had large volume of nasal mucus secretion, and 3 patients had postoperative nasal mucosa adhesion. In these 72 patients, cauterization of the mucosa around the sphenoid ostium was performed in 6 patients, placement of the speculum above the sphenoid ostium was performed in 2 patients, and olfactory damage was noted in all the 8 patients. Conclusions:Olfactory dysfunction after transsphenoidal surgery for pituitary lesions is common, and attention should be paid.Placement of the speculum above the sphenoid ostium and cauterization of the mucosa around the sphenoid ostium might be the main reasons for olfactory damage.
