Alzheimer' s disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder histologically characterized by the presence of senile plaques and neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs) found in and around pyramidal neurons in cortical tissue. Mounting evidence suggests regional increased iron load and dyshomeostasis have been associated with oxidative stress, oxidation of proteins and lipids, and cell death, and appears to be a risk factor for more rapid cognitive decline, thereby involved in multiple aspects of the pathophysiology of AD. Ferroptosis is a newly identified iron-dependent lipid peroxidation-driven cell death and emerging evidences have demonstrated the involvement of ferroptosis in the pathological process of AD. Notably, some novel compounds targeting ferroptosis can relieve AD-related pathological symptoms in AD cells and animal model and exhibit potential clinical benefits in AD patients. This review systematically summarizes the growing molecular and clinical evidence implicating ferroptosis in the pathogenesis of AD, and then reviews the application of ferroptosis inhibitors in mouse/cell models to provide valuable information for future treatment and prevention of AD.

Methods C57BL/6 N mice at 7-8 weeks of age were randomly divided into: male normal group, male model group, female normal group and female model group of 20 mice each. The normal group was fed with control liquid diet for 8 weeks, and the model group was fed with alcoholic liquid diet for 8 weeks combined with 31.5% ethanol gavage (5g/kg twice a week) to establish an alcoholic liver fibrosis model. The mice were executed at the end of 8 weekends, and the alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) activity, estradiol (E

Objective:To use structural equation modeling to identify the indicator variables of intrinsic ability vitality among the elderly population. Methods:The study collected data on seven variables commonly used to measure vitality and mobility, including body mass index, weight loss, calf circumference, grip strength, gait speed at 4 m, up and go, and up and sit, from the comprehensive geriatric assessment(CGA)of patients admitted to the Department of Geriatrics of Beijing Hospital between May 2020 and May 2022.The study used a structural equation model to explore and verify the indicator variables of activity, utilizing exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and correlation analysis. Results:The study conducted an exploratory factor analysis on seven variables, which resulted in two latent variables named vitality and locomotion.Body mass index, weight loss, and calf circumference were found to reflect vitality, while grip strength, 4 m-walking speed, time up and go test, and standing up and down test were found to reflect locomotion.Confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the measurement model was well-constructed and the indicator variables of vitality and locomotion were reasonably assigned[ χ2/ df=35/13, CFI=0.96, RMSEA(95% CI)=0.06(0.04, 0.08)].Correlation analysis showed that grip strength had a stronger correlation with locomotion-related variables than vitality-related variables( for grip strength and locomotion=0.33, for grip strength and vitality=0.21). Conclusions:The intrinsic ability and vitality of elderly individuals can be assessed through various means, including body mass index, weight loss, and calf circumference. However, grip strength is considered a more appropriate measure for reflecting locomotion rather than overall vitality.

Hyperkalemia is one of the common ion metabolism disorders in clinical practice. Hyperkalemia is defined as serum potassium higher than 5.0 mmol/L according to the guidelines at home and abroad. Acute severe hyperkalemia can cause serious consequences, such as flaccid paralysis, fatal arrhythmia, and even cardiac arrest. The use of renin-angiotensin- aldosterone system inhibitors, β-blockers and diuretics, low-sodium and high-potassium diets, and the presence of related comorbidities increase the occurrence of hyperkalemia. Hyperkalemia risk exist in all clinical departments, but there is a lack of a standardization in the management of multi- department cooperation in hospital. Therefore, a number of domestic nephrology and cardiology department experts have discussed a management model for multi-department cooperation in hyperkalemia, formulating the management standard on hospital evaluation, early warning, diagnosis and treatment, and process. This can promote each department to more effectively participate in nosocomial hyperkalemia diagnosis and treatment, as well as the long-term management of chronic hyperkalemia, improving the quality of hyperkalemia management in hospital.

Objective To obtain the occurrence and clinical characteristics of central nervous system adverse drug reactions(CNS-ADR)associated with three kinds of carbapenems, and to provide reference for clinical drug safety. Methods Based on adverse drug event active surveillance and assessment system-Ⅱ(ADE-ASAS-Ⅱ),retrospective automated monitoring of inpatients using imipenem, meropenem, and biapenem in a tertiary hospital from January 2022 to December 2022 was conducted. The incidence of carbapenem related CNS-ADR was calculated, and the basic conditions, disease conditions, drug use, occurrence time of ADR and symptoms of patients with CNS-ADR were analyzed by descriptive statistics. Results A total of 2 482 patients with 2 709 times of medication were included in this study, and a total of 93 positive cases of CNS-ADR occurred, with an overall incidence of 3.43%for all three medications,3.98%for imipenem,3.51%for meropenem, and 2.78%for biapenem. The indications for the 93 positive cases of CNS-ADR were mainly pulmonary infections(59.13%)and abdominal infections(25.80%);they occurred mostly within 7 days of the administration of the medication;with a variety of clinical manifestations, with anxiety/irritability being the most common, and epilepsy appearing most frequently in severe cases.Co-administration of proton pump inhibitors and cephalosporins accounted for a greater proportion of positive cases,50.54%of positive cases had a history of surgery, and 69.89%of positive cases were associated with electrolyte disturbances. Conclusion Clinical use of carbapenems should be based on the actual situation of the patient to develop an individualised drug regimen, and special attention should be paid to patients with comorbidities of renal disease, electrolyte disorders, and a history of previous surgery and neurological disorders,in order to reduce the risk of the occurrence of CNS-ADR.
