Purpose: This report offers a detailed examination of the inception and current state of the Heavy-ion Therapy Center (HITC) at the Yonsei Cancer Center (YCC), setting it apart as the world’s first center equipped with a fixed beam and two superconducting gantries for carbon-ion radiation therapy (CIRT). Materials and Methods: Preparations for CIRT at YCC began in 2013; accordingly, this center has completed a decade of meticulous planning and culminating since the operational commencement of the HITC in April 2023. Results: This report elaborates on the clinical preparation for adopting CIRT in Korea. It includes an extensive description of HITC’s facility layout at YCC, which comprises the accelerator and treatment rooms. Furthermore, this report delineates the clinical workflow, criteria for CIRT application, and the rigorous quality assurance processes implemented at YCC. It highlights YCC’s sophisticated radiation therapy infrastructure, collaborative initiatives, and the efficacious treatment of >200 prostate cancer cases utilizing CIRT. Conclusion This manuscript concludes by discussing the prospective influence of CIRT on the medical domain within Korea, spotlighting YCC’s pioneering contribution and forecasting the widespread integration of this groundbreaking technology.

Although lipoma is a well-known non-malignant tumor, oral cavity lipoma is a rather uncommon disease. Intraoral lipoma originating from the buccal fat pad is an exceptionally rare disorder. Buccal fat pad lipomas typically impair the face's appearance and functionality. The treatment is surgical excision using an intraoral technique, and close identifying of the surrounding anatomical systems, including the parotid duct, vessels, and buccinator branch of the facial nerve. A fifty-year-old patient reported consistently growing swelling of the left cheek. Clinical examination revealed a unilateral mass in the soft tissue. An MRI scan showed a typical picture of a lipoma attached to the buccal fat pad. Surgery was performed to remove the tumor, and the histology report confirmed the clinical diagnosis of lipoma.

A 71-year-old female patient developed cellulitis-like lesions at the burns from moxibustion of the right calf. The lesion was unilateral, a single confluent lesion with swelling and tenderness. Oral antibiotic treatment was performed with a poor clinical response. The patient was hospitalized and received intravenous broad-spectrum antibiotics, but the lesion progressed without improvement. Considering the possibility of erythema nodosum, the prescription was changed to methylprednisolone, and the redness, warmth and swelling improved the day after. A skin biopsy revealed features suggestive of panniculitis
