Acta Academiae Medicinae Sinicae 2022;44(5):822-827
Objective To investigate the multiple correspondence of genetic and environmental risk factors with abnormal birth history and provide a scientific basis for improving the birth defects surveillance system and reducing the incidence of birth defects. Methods Data were collected from all the perinatal infants from 28-week-old fetuses to 7-day-old infants born in all the hospitals with obstetrical department in Xi'an from 2003 to 2015. Results A total of 1 236 937 perinatal infants were surveyed, including 10 619 with birth defects. The average incidence rate of birth defects was 0.86% (0.70%-1.15%).Multiple correspondence analysis showed that the women who had had 1 or 2 children with birth defects were associated with the history of spontaneous abortion, family history of birth defects, and history of exposure to toxic and harmful substances. The women who had had 3 or more children with birth defects showed stronger association with family history of birth defects. The birth defects in women with history of spontaneous abortion (257/10 619) was ranked in the order of congenital heart disease, polydactyly, neural tube defects, congenital hydrocephalus, cleft lip with cleft palate, and simple cleft lip.The birth defects in women who had given birth to children with birth defects (135/10 619) followed the order of cleft lip with cleft palate, anencephaly, hydrocephalus, neural tube defects, cleft lip,and talipes equinovarus. Conclusions Abnormal birth history is associated with family history of birth defects and history of exposure to environmental risk factors.Giving birth to three or more children with birth defects is highly correlated with the family history of birth defects.

OBJECTIVE:
To observe the regulatory effect of electroacupuncture (EA) on small airway function and exercise tolerance in patients with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
METHODS:
A total of 62 patients with stable COPD were randomized into an observation group (31 cases, 1 case dropped off) and a control group (31 cases, 5 cases dropped off). On the base of routine medication and aerobic exercise, the patients of the two groups all received EA at Danzhong (CV 17), Rugen (ST 18), Guanyuan (CV 4), Zhongwan (CV 12), Tianshu (ST 25) and Yingchuang (ST 16). In the observation group, filiform needles were used and inserted perpendicularly, 3 mm in depth. In the control group, the placebo needling method was performed, in which the needle was not inserted through skin at each point. In both groups, electric stimulation with low-frequency electronic pulse instrument was exerted, with continuous wave, 2 Hz in frequency, lasting 30 min each time in the two groups. The treatment was given once every other day, 3 times a week, for 14 treatments totally. Before and after treatment, the following indexes were compared in patients between the two groups, i.e. the lung function indexes (forced expiratory volume in first second [FEV1], forced vital capacity [FVC], the ratio of FEV1 to FVC [FEV1/FVC], maximal voluntary ventilation [MVV], the percentage of maximal expiratory flow [MEF] at 25% of FVC exhaled [MEF25], MEF50 and MEF75 in predicted value), cardiopulmonary exercise test indexs (metabolic equivalent [METS], oxygen uptake per kg body weight [VO
RESULTS:
After treatment, FVC%, MVV%, MEF75%, MEF50%, VO

Background::Urbanization in China is rapidly proceeding, but rural-to-urban migration and its association with overweight and obesity is not well studied. This study aimed to explore the age at arrival, duration of migration, and the corresponding association with overweight/obesity in Yi migrants in China.Methods::A cross-sectional study was conducted in rural and urban areas in 2015 in Sichuan province, China. Demographic characteristics, lifestyle factors, and anthropometry were collected. General linear regression models were used to assess the effect of duration of migration (1-10, 11-20, 21-30, and >30 years) on body mass index (BMI). Multi-variable logistic regression was used to examine the association between duration of migration and overweight/obesity (BMI ≥ 25 kg/m 2). Results::A total of 3056 Yi people (1894 Yi farmers and 1162 Yi migrants) aged 20 to 80 years were enrolled. After adjusting for age, sex, and other potential confounders, Yi migrants had 1.71 kg/m 2 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.36-2.06) higher BMI and a 2.13-fold (95% CI: 1.71-2.65) higher risk of overweight/obesity than Yi farmers. In Yi migrants, stratified by age at arrival, no significant association between duration of migration and overweight/obesity was observed in those who were 0 to 20 years old at arrival. In comparison, in migrants >20 years old at arrival, compared with the reference group (1-10 years), long-term migration (>30 years) was found to be associated with overweight/obesity after adjustment (odds ratio: 1.85, 95% CI: 1.04-3.29). Conclusions::Yi migrants were observed to have greater risk of overweight/obesity than Yi farmers. In Yi migrants, the risk of overweight/obesity increased according to the duration of migration, especially in those who were older upon their arrival.
