Objective:To explore the risk factors and protective factors for esophageal cancer, and provide strategies for prevention, clinical treatment and later-stage intervention. Methods:A total of 150 patients with pathologically confirmed esophageal cancer admitted to Nanjing Liuhe District People′s Hospital from July 2020 to February 2023 were selected as the observation group, and 150 non-tumor patients hospitalized in the department of orthopedics during the same period were selected as the control group. A questionnaire survey was conducted to analyze the independent risk factors and independent protective factors for esophageal cancer. Results:Univariate Logistic regression analysis showed that smoking, alcohol consumption, drinking hot tea (hot drinking >65 ℃), eating hard food, frequency of consuming pickled food, frequency of consuming fruits, frequency of consuming vegetables, frequency of getting angry, economic income and frequency of consuming bread were factors affecting the incidence of esophageal cancer ( P<0.05). Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that smoking, consuming fruits ≤3 times per week, previously drinking alcohol but currently not drinking, and not eating hard food were factors affecting the incidence of esophageal cancer ( P<0.05). Conclusions:Smoking and consuming fruits ≤3 times per week are independent risk factors for esophageal cancer, while previously drinking alcohol but currently not drinking and not eating hard food are independent protective factors for esophageal cancer.

OBJECTIVE To explore the improvement effect and mechanism of vitexin on asthmatic model mice based on Notch signaling pathway. METHODS Asthma model of mice was established by intraperitoneal injection of ovalbumin and aluminum hydroxide suspension and nebulization stimulation of ovalbumin, and randomly divided into model group, vitexin group (40 mg/kg), Notch activator group (1 mg/kg Jagged1), vitexin+Notch activator group (40 mg/kg vitexin+1 mg/kg Jagged1), with 12 mice in each group. Another 12 mice were selected as the control group. Each group received intragastric/intraperitoneal injection of relevant medicine or normal saline, once a day, for consecutive 14 days. After the last medication, minute ventilation at rest (VE) and peak expiratory flow (PEF) were detected in mice; the pathological morphology of lung tissue and fibrosis degeneration were observed and determined. The proportion of T helper cell 17 (Th17) and T regulatory cell (Treg) in peripheral blood were detected, and the Th17/Treg ratio was calculated. The levels of serum inflammatory factors interleukin (IL)-18, IL-6, IL-17 and IL-10 were determined, and the expressions of Notch1, Delta-like ligand 4 (DLL4), hairy and enhancer of split 1 (Hes1) in lung tissue were detected. RESULTS Compared with the control group, serious pathological injury and inflammatory cell infiltration occurred in the lung tissue of mice in the model group, while VE, PEF, the proportion of Treg cells in peripheral blood and serum level of IL-10 were significantly reduced (P<0.05); collagen volume fraction (CVF) in lung tissue, Th17 cells proportion and Th17/Treg ratio in peripheral blood, serum levels of IL-18, IL-6 and IL-17, and the protein expressions of Notch1, DLL4 and Hes1 in lung tissue were significantly increased (P<0.05). Compared with the model group, the pathological injury of lung tissue in vitexin group was significantly improved compared with model group, and the changing trend of the above indexes was reversed (P<0.05); Notch activator Jagged1 could significantly reverse the pharmacological effects of vitexin on asthmatic mice (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS Vitexin can improve lung function, Th17/Treg immune imbalance and inflammatory response, and alleviate pathological injury and fibrosis of lung tissue in asthmatic mice by inhibiting the Notch signaling pathway.

Myocardial infarction can lead to permanent loss of cardiomyocytes and depressed pumping efficiency of the heart.Due to the extremely limited self-renewal potential of cardiomyocytes, the capability of cardiac repair after ischemic injury is extremely low.Mesenchymal stem cells, one of the widely sourced, easily isolated, extracted and cultured stem cells, are regarded as an ideal source of stem cells for the treatment of myocardial infarction owing to their beneficial paracrine effects. However, the cardioprotective efficacy of mesenchymal stem cells and their derivatives observed in animal models has not been fully translated into visible clinical benefits for patients with myocardial infarction.Recently, mesenchymal stem cell-based cardiac tissue engineering has been widely used in cardiac regenerative medicine and demonstrated excellent cardiac repair potential in infarcted hearts. This article reviews recent research progress on the application of tissue engineering strategies to improve the cardiac repair efficacy of mesenchymal stem cells and their derivatives, aiming to provide evidences for exploring potential strategies that can realize the efficient clinical benefits of mesenchymal stem cell-treatment.

Patients with severe trauma require an extremely timely treatment and transfusion plays an irreplaceable role in the emergency treatment of such patients. An increasing number of evidence-based medicinal evidences and clinical practices suggest that patients with severe traumatic bleeding benefit from early transfusion of low-titer group O whole blood or hemostatic resuscitation with red blood cells, plasma and platelet of a balanced ratio. However, the current domestic mode of blood supply cannot fully meet the requirements of timely and effective blood transfusion for emergency treatment of patients with severe trauma in clinical practice. In order to solve the key problems in blood supply and blood transfusion strategies for emergency treatment of severe trauma, Branch of Clinical Transfusion Medicine of Chinese Medical Association, Group for Trauma Emergency Care and Multiple Injuries of Trauma Branch of Chinese Medical Association, Young Scholar Group of Disaster Medicine Branch of Chinese Medical Association organized domestic experts of blood transfusion medicine and trauma treatment to jointly formulate Chinese expert consensus on blood support mode and blood transfusion strategies for emergency treatment of severe trauma patients ( version 2024). Based on the evidence-based medical evidence and Delphi method of expert consultation and voting, 10 recommendations were put forward from two aspects of blood support mode and transfusion strategies, aiming to provide a reference for transfusion resuscitation in the emergency treatment of severe trauma and further improve the success rate of treatment of patients with severe trauma.

Objective:To investigate the therapeutic efficacy of modified decoction for dissipating stasis in the epiglottis in the treatment of phlegm-stasis intermingling type chronic tonsillitis and its effects on patients' traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) symptom scores, white blood cell count (WBC), and serum interleukin-3 (IL-3) levels. Methods:A total of 120 patients with phlegm-stasis intermingling type chronic tonsillitis who received treatment at Xi'an Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January 2022 to October 2023 were selected for this randomized controlled study. The patients were randomly divided into two groups of 60 each using a random number table method. The control group received amoxicillin capsules combined with open-throat sword spray, while the observation group was treated with modified decoction for dissipating stasis in the epiglottis. All patients were treated for 14 days. Clinical efficacy was evaluated in each group. TCM symptom and sign scores, serum T-lymphocyte subgroups, WBC, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), and IL-3 levels were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. Results:The total response rate in the observation group was 93.33% (56/60), which was significantly higher than that in the control group [80.00% (48/60), χ2 = 4.62, P < 0.05]. After treatment, the scores for symptoms including dry and astringent pharynx, prolonged soreness, itchy pharynx, cough with white sputum, chest and epigastric congestion, and poor appetite were significantly lower in both groups compared with their baseline scores (all P < 0.001). After treatment, all symptom scores in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group ( t = 8.08, 18.01, 13.36, 8.75, 8.57, 9.17, all P < 0.001). The WBC, hs-CRP, and IL-3 levels in the observation group were (8.23 ± 1.44) × 10?/L, (5.62 ± 1.27) mg/L, and (81.36 ± 8.87) ng/L, respectively. These values were significantly lower than those in the control group [(10.05 ± 1.91) × 10?/L, (8.23 ± 1.78) mg/L, (97.43 ± 10.22) ng/L, t = 5.89, 0.95, 9.20, all P < 0.001]. After treatment, the ratios of CD 4+/CD 8+, NK lymphocytes, and CD 4+ levels in each group were significantly higher than their pre-treatment values (all P < 0.001). After treatment, these values in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group ( t = 2.30, 6.31, 5.97, 6.60, all P < 0.05). The difference in the incidence of adverse events between the two groups was not statistically significant ( P > 0.05). Conclusion:The treatment of phlegm-stasis intermingling type chronic tonsillitis with a modified decoction for dissipating stasis in the epiglottis can reduce WBC, and hs-CRP and IL-3 levels. It also improves T-lymphocyte subpopulations, alleviates symptoms, and enhances therapeutic efficacy.

In this study,a method for detecting heavy metal ions using potentiometric sensor and voltammetric sensor was proposed.By exploiting the complementary advantages of potentiometric and voltammetric electrochemical sensor, the traditional electrochemical electrode without special material preparation and modification could be used for the wide range and accurate detection of heavy metal ions in actual water samples.During detection, the concentration of target ion was measured by a potentiometric electrochemical sensor to determine the concentration range. The amperometric electrochemical sensor was then used for calibration and accurate measurement in the appropriate concentration range.Taking copper ion(Cu2+)as an example, the prepared Cu2+water sample and the actual water sample were tested.First, the copper ion selective electrode was used to determine the concentration range of Cu2+in the sample. Then, based on the gold electrode in different concentration range(0.86-100 μg/L and 100-300 μg/L)using two different optimization parameter settings to calibrate the electrochemical sensor and measure, the test results had a good correlation with those by professional water quality testing institutions. The recoveries ranged from 86.7%to 103.0%.The experimental results showed that the combination of potential sensor and current sensor could improve the accuracy of detection of heavy metal ions in water samples by electrochemical sensor.
