Vaccine-induced hypermetabolic lymph nodes have been clinically observed following coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) mRNA vaccination. Specifically, the booster dose of the mRNA vaccines, produced by Pfizer and Moderna, has been linked to a relatively high incidence of lymphadenopathy. We present the case of a kidney transplant recipient who developed an enlarged abdominal mass after receiving a booster dose of the COVID-19 mRNA vaccine. This mass occupied the retroperitoneal space, infiltrated the psoas muscle, and resulted in ureteric compression and hydronephrosis. Percutaneous drainage and analysis of the perirenal fluid revealed the presence of lymphatic fluid. In summary, lymphadenopathy is a recognized adverse reaction to the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. Patients with compromised immune systems should be informed about the incidence and potential severity of lymphadenopathy following booster vaccination.

Annals of Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism 2024;16(3):134-148
Purpose:
Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols advocate reduced fasting and early nutrition to improve recovery in surgical patients. However, data on ERAS implementation among Korean surgeons performing major abdominal surgeries remain sparse.
Methods:
A survey conducted by the External Relation Committee of the Korean Society of Surgical Metabolism and Nutrition assessed perioperative nutritional practices among 389 Korean general surgeons from February to September 2023. The survey covered preoperative fasting, carbohydrate drinks, nasogastric tube use, postoperative dietary progression, parenteral nutrition (PN), and oral supplements, yielding 551 responses stratified by specialty.
Results:
More than 80% of respondents practiced “midnight NPO (Nil Per Os)” fasting, often at the anesthesiology department’s request, while 70%–80% reported no use of preoperative carbohydrate drinks. Most surgeons began dietary progression with water on postoperative day one, advancing to a liquid or soft diet by day two. PN was routinely prescribed by 49% of respondents, with a common dosage of 1,000–1,500 kcal/d. Oral supplements were selectively provided, with 21% of surgeons prescribing them universally.
Conclusion
The results reveal significant variability in perioperative nutrition practices across Korean surgical specialties, with many adhering to traditional practices despite ERAS guidelines. These findings highlight a need for standardized guidelines in Korea to optimize perioperative nutritional support and improve patient recovery outcomes following major abdominal surgeries.
6.Association between Emotional Labor and Work Absence Due to Dental Treatment in Korean Workers

Journal of Dental Hygiene Science 2024;24(4):350-358
Background:
The prevalence of service-oriented roles in the contemporary workplace has led to an increased demand foremployees to engage in emotional labor to navigate the challenges of a service-oriented economy. This study aimed to examine the association between emotional labor and work absence due to dental treatment and assess the role of various factors between emotional labor and work absence due to dental treatment.
Methods:
Four hundred and eighty-three workers participated in this survey. Work absence was an outcome variable, andemotional labor was an independent variable. Logistic regression analyses were performed to find the association between emotional labor and work absence due to dental treatment controlling for age, sex, and education. The impacts of mediators (work type, employment type, and stress) were also assessed. Furthermore, the association between emotional labor and absenteeism due to dental treatment was assessed according to the stress level.
Results:
Emotional labor was associated with a 1.75 times higher risk of absenteeism due to dental treatment (95% confidenceinterval 1.04∼2.83) across adjusted models among Korean workers. The impact of stress was the highest among the mediators.Despite the non-statistical significance of the results, it was observed that elevated stress levels were correlated with increased dental absenteeism due to emotional labor.
Conclusion
The findings of this study indicate that the performance of emotional labor is associated with an increased prevalenceof absenteeism due to dental treatment. High stress levels may result in even higher rates of absenteeism among Korean workers.

Journal of Retina 2024;9(2):204-209
Purpose:
We sought to report the results of 0.625%/0.1 mL of povidone–iodine (PI) intravitreal injection (0.013% PI vitreous concentration) for treating acute endophthalmitis after cataract surgery.Case summary: Case 1 developed acute endophthalmitis one day after cataract surgery. Prompt intervention with PI injection and vitrectomy led to full resolution of inflammation and a visual acuity of 0.8, and the patient remained stable at 10 months. Case 2, a patient with persistent post-cataract inflammation, was treated with PI injection and vitrectomy, resulting in complete resolution of inflammation and improvement of visual acuity to 0.6 by eight months. Case 3 was a diabetic patient who experienced severe acute endophthalmitis. The patient was treated with the above intervention, resulting in full resolution of endophthalmitis; however, he eventually lost vision due to neovascular glaucoma. Case 4 developed recurrent endophthalmitis caused by Achromobacter xylosoxidans after cataract surgery. This patient required multiple vitrectomies, PI injections, and intraocular lens removal, which led to a resolution of inflammation and restoration of visual acuity to 1.0 after 14 months.
Conclusions
0.625%/0.1-mL IPI injection followed by vitrectomy was performed in four acute endophthalmitis patients after cataract surgery and were successfully treated.
