Objective:To investigate the factors influencing fall risk scores in elderly individuals.Methods:A total of 4 419 individuals were randomly selected using the cluster sampling method from Beijing, Nanning(Guangxi), and Yinchuan(Ningxia).Data on demographic characteristics and fall-related incidents were gathered and analyzed for their correlation with fall risk scores.Results:The fall risk score showed significant associations with various factors, such as the history of falls within one year( β=-3.607, 95% CI: -3.881 to -3.332), care methods( β=2.442, 95% CI: 2.226 to 2.658), exercise( β=0.714, 95% CI: 0.443 to 0.986), retirement( β=-0.585, 95% CI: -0.819 to -0.351), age( β=0.173, 95% CI: 0.159 to 0.187), and use of walking aids( β=-3.737, 95% CI: -4.054 to -3.421). Conclusions:Fall risk scores in older adults are influenced by a variety of factors.Factors such as no history of falls within the past year, living independently, engaging in physical activity, and being employed may contribute to lower fall risk scores in older adults.

It has been reported that ODB genes play an important role in homologous recombination-directed DNA repair, suggesting their potential applications in plant breeding. To analyze the expression characteristics of tobacco NtODB gene, the cDNA sequence of NtODB was obtained using in silico cloning technique. The physicochemical properties, signal peptide, and advanced structures of the predicted protein were analyzed using bioinformatics tools. The results showed that the NtODB gene has a 579-bp open reading frame which encodes a protein with 192 amino acid residues. The protein NtODB is predicted to be alkaline and hydrophilic. Real-time quantitative PCR showed that NtODB was constitutively expressed in different tissues. Subcellular localization showed that NtODB was mainly expressed in cell membrane and chloroplast. These results may help us to better understand and elucidate the roles of ODB genes in the homologous recombination-directed DNA repair.

Objective: To investigate whether plague phages were present in the indicator animals of plague foci in Yunnan Province, and to explore their epidemiological significance. Methods: Anus swabs were collected from indicator animals (dogs or cats) of the 41 plague affected villages in 26 towns of 10 cities (counties, districts) of Yunnan plague foci from November of 2015 to March of 2018. The Yersinia pestis phages were isolated by plague vaccine strain EV76. The isolation of plague phages from different plague foci, the isolation of plague phages from different canine species (cats), the polymorphism of plaque and the host spectrum of phages were analyzed. Results: A total of 1 014 indicator animals (1 003 dogs and 11 cats) were studied, and 102 of plague phages were isolated. In the 10 cities (counties, districts), plague phages were only not isolated from Lancang County, and the plague phages were isolated from the other 9 cities (counties, districts). The separation rates from high to low were as follows: Yiliang County (21.00%, 21/100), Menghai County (19.23%, 25/130), Yuanjiang County (11.63%, 10/86), Midu County (11.50%, 13/113), Wenshan County (10.10%, 10/99), Mile Country (7.07%, 7/99), Lianghe County (6.67%, 7/105), Baoshan Longyang District (4.90%, 5/102) and Gengma County (3.81%, 4/105). Of the 102 plague phages, 75 were isolated from the native dogs (Chinese pastoral dogs, 9.32%, 75/805), 20 from the pug dogs (13.70%, 20/146), 5 from the wolf dogs (17.24%, 5/29), 1 from Samoye (1/4) and 1 from Alaska dog (1/2). The plaque of the phage was divided by five appearance of complete lysis (the plate was clear), large (2.5-4.0 mm), big (1.5-< 2.5 mm), middle (0.5-< 1.5 mm) and small (< 0.5 mm). The representative phages were all of the Myoviridae family. Most of the phages could lysis the strains of Yersinia pestis, and some phages could lysis Shigella and type 5 Yersinia pseudotuberculosis (PST5). Conclusion The plague phages are present in the plague foci of Yunnan, and the phages are polymorphic.

To study and compare the composition regularities of Chinese materia medica (CMM) formulas for four kinds of emmeniopathies, including irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, and uterine bleeding, and contribute to the interpretation and prescription of composition mechanism for the optimization of CMM formulas by using a data-driven approach. A total of 1 761 CMM formulas from the Dictionary of Chinese Medicine Prescription for emmeniopathies were analyzed by the data mining method of Apriori algorithm with the indicators of support, confidence, and lift. The frequencies, composition regularities, and pivotal compositions of CMM were analyzed comparatively. Angelicae Sinensis Radix (ASR), Chuanxiong Rhizoma (CR), CR-ASR, Paeoniae Radix Alba (PRA)-ASR, and PRA-CR-ASR were higher commonly used CMM and CMM combinations for all the four emmeniopathies. Astragali Radix was the highest frequently used CMM for uterine bleeding. Persicae Semen (PS), Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, and PS-ASR were the frequently used CMM and CMM combinations for amenorrhea. Cyperi Rhizoma and Cyperi Rhizoma-ASR were the frequently used CMM and CMM combinations for dysmenorrhea. The latent association rules with significant lift included Hirudo→Tabanus and Olibanum→Myrrha for irregular menstruation, and Sappan Lignum→Carthami Flos and Tabanus→Hirudo for amenorrhea. Based on the CMM formulas from the Dictionary of Chinese Medicine Prescription, the data-driven approach revealed the similarities and differences in CMM compositions for the four emmeniopathies and uncovered the latent composition regularities and the pivotal CMM effectively.

Objective To investigate the influence of newborns born to mother with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).Method The clinical data of SLE mothers and their infants bern in the obstetric and were admitted to the neonatal ward ward of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University from July 2012 to March 2015 were studied retrospectively.The infants were divided into active SLEactivity group and stable SLE group.The incidence of preterm birth,small for gestational age (SGA),cardiac conduction block,anemia,and thrombocytopenia were compared between the two groups of SLE mothers.Result A total of 66 infants were included in SLE mothers,including 14 cases (21.2％) of preterm infants and 18 cases of SGA (27.3％).14 cases belonged to the active SLE group while 52 cases belonged to the SLE stable group.When comparing the 2 groups,there were no differences found on the rates of preterm infant and small for gestational age (P ＞ 0.05).The cardiac conduction block,anemia and thrombocytopenia happened separately in three cases of the active group,which had not seen in the SLE stable group.There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups (P ＞ 0.05).Of the 66 cases,2 were diagnosed with neonatal lupus erythematosus (NLE) with an incidence of 3％.Conclusion SLE mothers with an active disease 10 days before delivery did not significantly increase the incidence of preterm infants and SGA,but were at risk of NLE.

Objective To introduce the application of multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA) assays in the diagnosis of patients with hereditary neuropathy with liability to pressure palsies (HNPP).Methods Copy numbers of the exons in peripheral myelin prolein 22 (PMP22) gene,tektin 3 (TEKT3) gene and cytochrome c oxidase assembly protein 10 (COX10) gene were analyzed by MLPA in 8 patients diagnosed with HNPP clinically and 5 normal controls.Results Among the 8 patients,7 patients were identified to have deletion mutations according to their reduced peak area of PMP22 gene,TEKT3 gene and COX10 gene compared with that of normal controls.One patient with normal peak area of PMP22 gene,TEKT3 gene and COX10 gene showed no deletion of these genes.Conclusions MLPA assays can detect the copy numbers of genes in HNPP region through semi-quantitative analysis in a rapid,accurate way,which may be utilized widely in the genetic diagnosis among HNPP patients.

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of oral prednisone in patients with relapsing neuromyeli?tis optica. Methods Seventeen patients with relapsing neuromyelitis optica receiving long-term oral prednisone had been followed. The Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) and annualized relapse rates were used to evaluate curative effect. Results During long-term oral prednisone treatment, patients had a significant reduction in the EDSS [(3.09 ± 0.85) vs. (4.06 ± 0.80), P<0.05] and the median annualized relapse rate was significant reduced [(0.34 ± 0.31) vs. (1.51 ± 0.57), P<0.005]. But the effect of different dosage of prednisone on annualized relapse rates was not different. No severe adverse re?actions were observed. Conclusions Treatment with long-term oral prednisone in patients with NMO significantly reduces relapse rates, improves neurological function and the treatment was well-tolerated.

One hundred children aged 8-10 years and 100 adults aged 18-45 from their families in three townships Baoshan,Mingcheng,and Yantongshan of Panshi city,Jilin province were selected in April 2009. In addition,50 pregnant or lactating women,and their 50 infants aged 0-2 years were selected.The median level of iodine in salt at household was 30.2 mg/kg and that of drinking water was 2.8 μg/L.The median levels of urine iodine in school age chidren ( 196.5 μg/L),during pregnancy( 198.5 μag/L),lactation( 224.9 μg/L),and in infants (209.0 μg/L) all were optimal according to World Health Organization criteria.Only the median urine iodine in adults ( 269.0 μg/L) was more than adequate.The prevalence of goiter evaluated by B-ultrasound was 1.8％ in 8-10year-old children.The incidences of various thyroid dysfunctions were low in these residents,such as subclinical hyperthyroidism ( 2.1％ ),subclinical hypothyroidism ( 1.5％ ),and hyperthyroidism ( 1.2％ ). Subclinical hypothyroidism occurred mostly in adults (2.7％),pregnant women ( 1.7％ ),and lactating women ( 1.8％ ) ; and subclinical hyperthyroidism occurred mostly in 8-10 years old school chidren (4.5％) and lactating women (3.6％).These results show that the current iodized salt content has no harmful effect on thyroid function of rural residents in Jilin province.
