Crohn’s disease (CD) is a chronic, fluctuating inflammatory condition that primarily affects the gastrointestinal tract. Although the incidence of CD in Taiwan is lower than that in Western countries, the severity of CD presentation appears to be similar between Asia and the West. This observation indicates the urgency for devising revised guidelines tailored to the unique reimbursement system, and patient requirements in Taiwan. The core objectives of these updated guidelines include the updated treatment choices and the integration of the treat-to-target strategy into CD management, promoting the achievement of deep remission to mitigate complications and enhance the overall quality of life. Given the diversity in disease prevalence, severity, insurance policies, and access to medical treatments in Taiwan, a customized approach is imperative for formulating these guidelines. Such tailored strategies ensure that international standards are not only adapted but also optimized to local contexts. Since the inception of its initial guidelines in 2017, the Taiwan Society of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (TSIBD) has acknowledged the importance of continuous revisions for incorporating new therapeutic options and evolving disease management practices. The latest update leverages international standards and recent research findings focused on practical implementation within the Taiwanese healthcare system.

Objective To discuss a new coding method for individual identification based on oral panoramic tomography, analyze the diversity of different coding modules in nonhomologous images and the consistency and the matching rate of the coding indexes of different coding modules in homologous images, and evaluate the application value of the different modules and the new coding method in individual identification. Methods The oral panoramic tomography images of 1 000 patients with permanent teeth were collected retrospectively. Each patient had two images taken at different times (called the Early database and the Late database according to the chronological order). Each image was coded according to the designed coding method. A computer program was designed to compare the diversity of different modules, and calculate the diversity and consistency of different coding modules as well as the matching rate of the coding indexes. Results The diversity of the 4 modules that reflected teeth characteristics was much higher than that of other modules in the same database. The highest diversity was noticed in the module of right mandibular teeth in samples of both databases. The coding consistencies of the 4 modules were all above 50%. Besides, 90.2% of the matching rates of indexes of homologous images were over 80%. Conclusion The 4 modules have higher application value in individual identification, especially the right mandibular teeth. The coding method has a certain value in forensic individual identification.

Chinese Journal of Contemporary Pediatrics 2019;21(5):441-444
OBJECTIVE:
To investigate the epidemiological characteristics of mumps in mainland China from 2004 to 2018, and to provide data for the key population for prevention and control of mumps.
METHODS:
The epidemiological characteristics of mumps were analyzed with reference to the data of the cases of mumps reported in the National Scientific Data Sharing Platform for Population and Health and Disease Prevention and Control Bureau of National Health Commission of the People's Republic of China. Descriptive epidemiology was used to analyze the epidemiological characteristics of mumps.
RESULTS:
A total of 4 272 368 cases of mumps were reported in China during 2004-2018, with an average annual reported incidence rate of 21.44/100 000. A single dose of mumps-containing vaccine was added to the national Expanded Program of Immunization in 2008, but the annual incidence rate ranged from 12.84/100 000 to 35.59/100 000. The second dose of measles, mumps and rubella combined attenuated live vaccine was included in the routine immunization in Beijing, Tianjin and Shanghai, and then the average incidence rate of mumps reported in these three regions dropped to about 10/100 000. From 2004 to 2016, the population aged 3-14 years accounted for 81.16% of all patients with mumps. The children aged 6 years had the highest incidence rate of mumps during 2004-2013.
CONCLUSIONS
A single dose of mumps-containing vaccine has no obvious effect on the incidence rate of mumps. Children aged 6 years have the highest incidence rate of mumps. A booster dose of mumps-containing vaccine should be given to preschool children.

Chinese Journal of Contemporary Pediatrics 2019;21(8):812-819
OBJECTIVE:
To systematically evaluate the clinical effect of azithromycin (AZM) adjuvant therapy in children with bronchiolitis.
METHODS:
Related databases were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on AZM adjuvant therapy in children with bronchiolitis published up to February 17, 2019. RevMan 5.3 was used to perform the Meta analysis.
RESULTS:
A total of 14 RCTs were included, with 667 children in the intervention group and 651 in the control group. The pooled effect size showed that in the children with bronchiolitis, AZM adjuvant therapy did not shorten the length of hospital stay (MD=-0.29, 95%CI: -0.62 to 0.04, P=0.08) or oxygen supply time (MD=-0.33, 95%CI: -0.73 to 0.07, P=0.10), while it significantly shortened the time to the relief of wheezing (MD=-1.00, 95%CI: -1.72 to -0.28, P=0.007) and cough (MD=-0.48, 95%CI: -0.67 to -0.29, P<0.00001). The analysis of bacterial colonization revealed that AZM therapy significantly reduced the detection rates of Streptococcus pneumoniae (OR=0.24, 95%CI: 0.11-0.54, P=0.0006), Haemophilus (OR=0.28, 95%CI: 0.14-0.55, P=0.0002), and Moraxella catarrhalis (OR=0.21, 95%CI: 0.11-0.40, P<0.00001) in the nasopharyngeal region.
CONCLUSIONS
AZM adjuvant therapy can reduce the time to the relief of wheezing and cough in children with bronchiolitis, but it has no marked effect on the length of hospital stay and oxygen supply time.
