Chronic recurrent sialadenitis is characterized by repeated inflammation of the salivary glands, leading to ductal structural abnormalities and salivary stasis, often resulting in megaducts. This study evaluates the efficacy of ultrasonography as a diagnostic and follow-up tool for the management of chronic recurrent sialadenitis. Three patients underwent sialendoscopy, which involved ductal dilation, removal of mucous plugs, and steroid administration. Ultrasonography was used postoperatively to monitor changes in ductal structure, including megaduct size, and to assess clinical outcomes.All three cases showed marked improvement in clinical symptoms after treatment. Ultrasonography demonstrated a reduction in megaduct size and provided real-time visualization of ductal and glandular changes. Compared to traditional imaging methods such as magnetic resonance imaging or sialography, ultrasonography offered a practical and safe option for follow-up assessment. This study highlights the utility of ultrasonography as an accessible, non-invasive, and effective tool for evaluating treatment outcomes in chronic recurrent sialadenitis. By offering detailed visualization of ductal changes and facilitating longitudinal follow-up, ultrasonography can optimize the management of this condition.

Background: Few studies have classified chest computed tomography (CT) findings of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and analyzed their correlations with prognosis. The present study aimed to evaluate retrospectively the clinical and chest CT findings of COVID-19 and to analyze CT findings and determine their relationships with clinical severity. Methods: Chest CT and clinical features of 271 COVID-19 patients were assessed. The presence of CT findings and distribution of parenchymal abnormalities were evaluated, and CT patterns were classified as bronchopneumonia, organizing pneumonia (OP), or diffuse alveolar damage (DAD). Total extents were assessed using a visual scoring system and artificial intelligence software. Patients were allocated to two groups based on clinical outcomes, that is, to a severe group (requiring O2 therapy or mechanical ventilation, n = 55) or a mild group (not requiring O2 therapy or mechanical ventilation, n = 216). Clinical and CT features of these two groups were compared and univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to identify independent prognostic factors. Results: Age, lymphocyte count, levels of C-reactive protein, and procalcitonin were significantly different in the two groups. Forty-five of the 271 patients had normal chest CT findings. The most common CT findings among the remaining 226 patients were groundglass opacity (98%), followed by consolidation (53%). CT findings were classified as OP (93%), DAD (4%), or bronchopneumonia (3%) and all nine patients with DAD pattern were included in the severe group. Uivariate and multivariate analyses showed an elevated procalcitonin (odds ratio [OR], 2.521; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.001–6.303, P = 0.048), and higher visual CT scores (OR, 1.137; 95% CI, 1.042–1.236; P = 0.003) or higher total extent by AI measurement (OR, 1.048; 95% CI, 1.020–1.076; P < 0.001) were significantly associated with a severe clinical course. Conclusion CT findings of COVID-19 pneumonia can be classified into OP, DAD, or bronchopneumonia patterns and all patients with DAD pattern were included in severe group. Elevated inflammatory markers and higher CT scores were found to be significant predictors of poor prognosis in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia.

Lymphomatoid granulomatosis (LG) is a rare B-cell type angiocentric lymphoproliferative disease that can progress to extranodal lymphoma with high mortality. It most commonly affects the lungs, although extrapulmonary systems, including the brain and skin, can also be involved. LG in pediatric patients has been very rarely reported in the literature with limited imaging features. Herein, we report a pediatric case of LG involving the lung and brain with characteristic imaging findings.

Background: Foreign bodies may be embedded or left behind in the oral cavity during oral surgical procedure. The loss of instruments such as impression material, surgical gauze, and broken injection needles are commonly reported in the dental field. These complications are generally symptomatic and show signs of inflammation, pain, and purulent discharge. Accidental breakage of suture needles is a rare but potentially dangerous event.Case presentation: In this report, we present one case of lost suture needle during the procedure of flap operation at local dental clinic and its successful removal under local/general anesthesia administration via CBCT with a help of two reference needles to localize the 6-0 nylon needle and consulting with the clinician. Conclusion CT scanning taken while mouth-closing may not be accurate with regard to real location measurement performed while mouth-opening. If so, other up-to-date radiographic devices and methods to retrieve a needle are recommended.

The purpose of this article is to describe OAF; introduce the approach algorithm for the treatment of OAF; and review the fundamental surgical techniques for fistula closure with their advantages and disadvantages. The author included a thorough review of the previous studies acquired from the PubMed database. Based on this review, this article presents cases of OAF patients treated with buccal flap, buccal fat pad (BFP), and palatal rotational flap techniques.
