Objective To investigate the relationship between tooth loss and the occurrence of esophageal cancer in a natural village in Wenfeng District, Anyang City, Henan Province. Methods A prospective cohort study was conducted to observe the occurrence of tooth loss and esophageal cancer among the asymptomatic residents of the natural village for 16 years from January 2008 to July 2024. Data were analyzed by chi-square test, binary logistic regression, and restricted cubic spline. Results Among the total population of 711 cases, 136 cases were lost to follow-up and 575 cases were included in the final statistics, including 45 cases with esophageal cancer. Significant statistical difference was found between esophageal cancer patients with and without tooth loss (P<0.05). Objective To understand the disease spectrum of a natural village in an area with high incidence of esophageal cancer to provide a reference for precise prevention and control. Methods From 2008 to 2024, 711 asymptomatic people over the age of 35 years in a natural village with high incidence of esophageal cancer in China were surveyed, and 171 of them were subjected to gastroscopy, biopsy, and pathological examination. All participants were followed up for a long time, and their disease history was recorded. Results A total of 16 years of follow-up were performed, and 703 people were effectively followed up. In 2008, 171 people underwent gastroscopy, and 160 people had biopsy and pathological results in endoscopic screening. By 2024, 76 people had been diagnosed with malignant tumors of 12 different types, and among these people, 45 had esophageal cancer. Conclusion Esophageal cancer remains a significant cause of morbidity and mortality from malignant tumors in this region. Biopsy and pathological examination should be strengthened during gastroscopy, and follow-ups and regular check-ups should be given high importance to reduce the incidence and mortality rates of esophageal cancer.
5.Research progress on the role of astrocytes in cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury

The pathophysiological mechanism of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury (CIRI) is complex, and the current treatment methods are limited and the efficacy is not good. Previous therapeutic strategies of CIRI mostly target neurons, but no significant progress has been made. At present, astrocytes are expected to be promising effector cells for the treatment of CIRI. Astrocytes are a "double-edged sword" in the pathological process of CIRI, with both neurotoxic and neuroprotective effects on the central nervous system. How to effectively use astrocytes to treat CIRI has become a research hotspot. In this review, the dual roles of astrocytes in CIRI mechanism were reviewed, and the related mechanisms of astrocytes in relieving oxidative stress induced by CIRI were emphasized, in order to provide new ideas for the treatment of CIRI.
6.Cephalometric study of facial morphology and hyoid bone position in children with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome

Objective To analyze the results of cephalometric indicators of facial morphology and hyoid bone position in children with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). Methods A total of 78 children with OSAS were randomly selected and included in OSAS group. Another 78 healthy children who had not received otolaryngology, orthodontics or speech therapy were selected as healthy control group. Children in both groups underwent otolaryngology evaluation and cephalometric measurement, and the OSAS group also underwent overnight polysomnography (PSG) examination. Results The cephalometric measurement results of the facial shape showed that the facial anterior height (N-Me) and facial anterior inferior height (ANS-Me) in the OSAS group were higher than those in the healthy control group (

Objective: To investigate the value of T2 map and synthetic T2WI generated by T2 mapping in evaluating the histological type, pathological classification and depth of myometrial invasion of endometrial carcinoma (EC). Methods: Seventy-three patients with pathologically proven EC diagnosed at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from December 2019 to December 2021 and 42 healthy volunteers were enrolled in the study. All subjects underwent conventional MRI, diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) and T2 mapping sequence for the pelvic cavity to test the T2 values and the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) of the focus nidus of the patients and the normal endometrium of the volunteers. The T2 and ADC values of EC vs normal endometrium, and those of different histological types and pathological grades were compared. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were constructed to evaluate the diagnostic performance of T2 and ADC values in determining the pathological type and classification of EC. In addition, two radiologists used synthetic T2WI combined with T2 map and conventional T2WI combined with DWI, respectively, to evaluate the depth of myometrial invasion, and compared the imaging results with the results of pathological diagnosis to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of the two methods in determining the depth of myometrial invasion. Results: The T2 and ADC values of endometrial carcinoma were 85.0 (80.8, 92.5) ms and 0.71 (0.64, 0.77) ×10(-3) mm(2)/s, respectively, which were significantly lower than those of normal endometrium [147.4 (123.4, 176.7) ms and 1.46 (1.26, 1.76)×10(-3) mm(2)/s, respectively; both P<0.05]. The T2 values of endometrioid carcinoma (EA) [84.1 (79.5, 88.7) ms] were significantly lower than those of non-EA [98.8 (92.1, 102.8) ms; P<0.05]. There was no significant difference in ADC values between EA and non-EA (P=0.075). The T2 values of G1, G2 and G3 groups in EA were 89.1 (84.4, 94.4) ms, 83.6 (80.9, 86.2) ms, and 76.5 (71.4, 80.3) ms, respectively. There were significant differences in the T2 values between G1 vs G2, G1 vs G3, and G2 vs G3 groups, respectively (all P<0.017). Significant difference was also found in the ADC values between the G1 and G3 groups (P<0.017). The area under the ROC curve (AUC) of T2 values in distinguishing EA from non-EA was 0.867. The AUC of T2 values, ADC values and their combination in predicting high-grade EA was 0.888, 0.730 and 0.895, respectively. The accuracy of synthetic T2WI+ T2 map and conventional T2WI+ DWI in the diagnosis of deep myometrial invasion was 78.1% and 79.5%, respectively, with no significant difference (P>0.05). Conclusions: T2 mapping has great potential in preoperative evaluation of EC. The quantitative T2 value can be used in the diagnosis, pathological classification and grading of EC. The combination of synthetic T2WI and T2 map may be helpful to determine the depth of myometrial invasion.

8.Myocardin Reverses Hypoxia-Inducible Factor-1α Mediated Phenotypic Modulation of Corpus Cavernosum Smooth Muscle Cells in Hypoxia Induced by Cobalt Chloride

Purpose:
We aimed to investigate the mechanism of phenotypic transformation of corporal cavernosum smooth muscle cells (CCSMCs) under hypoxic conditions in vitro.
Materials and Methods:
In this study, a hypoxia model was established using cobalt chloride (CoCl2). CCSMCs were treated with different concentrations of CoCl2 for varying time periods, and cell viability was assessed. Hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α), myocardin (Myocd) and phenotypic markers were detected in the CCSMCs. We also transfected the CCSMCs with si-HIF-1α and Ad-Myocd and evaluated the effects on phenotypic modulation of CCSMCs and the relationship between HIF-1α and Myocd was evaluated.
Results:
CoCl2 inhibited the viability of CCSMCs in a dose- and time-dependent manner, and treatment with 300 µM CoCl2 for 48 hours were the optimal conditions for establishing the hypoxia model. The results showed increased expression levels of HIF-1α and osteopontin and decreased Myocd, alpha-smooth muscle actin, and calponin levels in CCSMCs under hypoxia. HIF-1α knockdown reversed hypoxia-induced phenotypic transformation with elevated Myocd expression. Overexpression of Myocd also reversed the effect of hypoxia on the phenotypic switch, but did not affect HIF-1α expression.
Conclusions
Our findings showed that HIF-1α was involved in the effect of hypoxia induced by CoCl2 on CCSMC phenotypic modulation, and Myocd overexpression could inhibit this process. Thus, Myocd might be a potential therapeutic target for erectile dysfunction under hypoxia or HIF-1α activation.
9.Potential value of differential expression of CDC42 gene in adult and umbilical cord blood reticulocytes

【Objective】 To explore critical regulatory genes in the hemoglobin switch process by analyzing transcriptomic data from the GSE6236, GSE17639 and GSE35102 datasets. 【Methods】 The mRNA expression profiles of the three datasets were downloaded from the GEO database and gene annotation was performed using the AnnoProbe package.The remove-BatchEffect function of the Limma package was used to remove batch effects. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) was used to explore the most relevant modular genes in reticulocytes. The receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) was used to assess the value of differential genes in differentiating between cord blood and adult peripheral blood reticulocytes. The GSE35102 dataset was used to validate changes in differential gene expression during hemoglobin transformation. Finally, real-time quantitative PCR was used to verify differential gene expression in cord blood and adult peripheral blood reticulocytes. 【Results】 Twelve genes showed differential expression in reticulocytes from cord blood and adult peripheral blood ( |logFC|≥1.5, P<0.05). WGCNA found that genes in the blue module were most strongly associated with reticulocytes (R2 =0.76,P<0.001). Of the five genes that overlapped between the two, only CDC42 showed differential expression in the combined dataset (t =3.776, P<0.001) and was able to better differentiate between reticulocytes in cord blood and adult peripheral blood. The expression of CDC42 varied significantly during the hemoglobin transformation process (Z = -2.908, P<0.01), and was significantly lower in adult reticulocytes compared to reticulocytes from cord blood (t =7.824, P <0.001). 【Conclusion】 The CDC42 gene is involved in the hemoglobin switching of reticulocytes and could be a potential therapeutic target for sickle cell disease.
