Nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2)/glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) signaling pathway plays a key role in the occurrence and development of tumors, and is involved in tumor cell proliferation, apoptosis, ferroptosis, invasion, migration, and drug resistance. Based on the Nrf2/GPX4 signaling pathway, this paper summarizes the research progress of the anti- tumor effects of traditional Chinese medicine. It is found that flavonoids (ginkgetin, luteolin, etc.), terpenoids (atractylenolide, cucurbitacin B, etc.), saponins (polyphyllin Ⅰ, polyphyllin Ⅶ), ester (brusatol) and other effective components, and traditional Chinese medicine extracts (total coumarins in Pileostegia tomentella and total flavonoids of Pterocarya hupehensis Skan), traditional Chinese medicine compounds (Fushao diqin fang, Xiaoai jiedu fang, etc.) can promote ferroptosis in tumor cells by inhibiting Nrf2/GPX4 signaling pathway and the expressions of its upstream and downstream factor proteins, as well as by increasing Fe2+ levels and lipid peroxidation, thereby exerting an antitumor effect.

Background Pneumoconiosis is a chronic inflammatory disease that cannot be completely cured. Therefore, how to control lung inflammation and delay of the body aging is one of the keys to treating pneumoconiosis. The studies in past two decades suggested that many small molecule drugs are able to enhance cardiopulmonary function. Objective To explore the effects of homeopathic dosing and combined dosing of β-nicotinamide mononucleotide and taurine on experimental silicosis in rats. Methods Seventy-two SD specific pathogen-free rats were randomized into 4 groups (18 mice in each group): negative control group (ultrapure water, without dust), positive control group, homeopathic treatment group, co-administered treatment group. One mL of quartz dust suspension was injected into the rat trachea by disposable non-exposed tracheal injection method (50 mg·mL−1) to establish a rat silicosis model. Rats were administered by gavage since the 4th day after dust exposure. The homeopathic treatment group rats received taurine solution (0.03 g·mL−1) in the morning and β-nicotinamide mononucleotide (0.03 g·mL−1) in the afternoon; the co-administered treatment group rats received a mixed solution (0.015 g·mL−1 β-nicotinamide mononucleotide + 0.015 g·mL−1 taurine) twice, in the morning and afternoon respectively. The positive and negative control groups received equivalent of ultrapure water in the morning and afternoon. All groups of rats were administered 5 d a week for a total of 6 weeks. The rats were neutralized after 6 weeks of administration. Organ coefficient, lung hydroxyproline content, whole lung dry and wet weights, whole lung free silica content, and cell count and classification in lung lavage fluid were measured and calculated, and lung histopathological changes in lung samples were observed. Results Compared with the positive control group, the whole lung wet weight, whole lung dry weight , total cell count, neutrophil rate, lung organ coefficient, lung hydroxyproline content, and whole lung free silica content were reduce in the homeopathic treatment group, and the co-administered treatment group (P<0.05). Compared with the negative control group, the total cell count, neutrophil rate, lung organ coefficient, lung hydroxyproline content, and whole lung free silica content were elevated in the homeopathic treatment group and the co-administered treatment group, the whole lung dry weight was elevated in the co-administered treatment group, and those differences were all statistically significant (P<0.05). The rat lung histopathological results showed that, in the positive control group, round or oval nodules were formed in the lung tissue, which were phagocytic cellular nodules, and the alveolar structures in some areas still existed. The histopathological changes in the homeopathic treatment group and the co-administered treatment group were similar to those of the positive group, but less severe. No pathological change was observed in the lung tissue of the negative control group. Conclusion Some improvement and dust removal in experimental silicosis rats by homeopathic dosing and combined dosing of β-nicotinamide mononucleotide and taurine are observed.

Objective To summarize and analyze the clinical diagnosis, surgical treatment and prognosis of multiple pulmonary nodules (MPNs). Methods The clinical data of lung cancer patients who received surgical treatment in our hospital from 2018 to 2020 were collected. The short-term efficacy of surgical treatment for MPNs was analyzed. Results A total of 97 patients were enrolled, including 30 males and 67 females with an average age of 56.1±10.0 years at onset ill. There were 62 patients with double lesions, 22 patients with three lesions, 4 patients with four lesions, and 9 patients with more than four lesions. A total of 213 lesions were surgically treated, including 88 pure ground-glass nodules, 81 partially solid nodules, and 7 solid nodules. There were 87 simultaneous surgeries and 10 staged surgeries, with an average operation interval of 5.2 months. The pathological combination type included adenocarcinoma-adenocarcinoma in 96 (99.0%) patients, squamous cell carcinoma-squamous cell carcinoma in 1 (1.0%) patient, and no lymph node metastasis was found. The 2-year disease-free survival (DFS) rate was 92.1%, and the overall survival (OS) rate was 100.0%. Univariate analysis showed that high-risk lesion size>2 cm (P=0.316), residual lesions (P=0.782) and pathological combination type (P=0.913) had statistical effect on the 2-year DFS rate. Conclusion MPNs are mainly diagnosed with multiple primary lung cancers, and the pathological combination is mostly adenocarcinoma-adenocarcinoma combination. Imaging examination is of great help to the surgical approach selection, diagnosis and differential diagnosis of MPNs. During the operation, maximal preservation of lung function and complete resection of high-risk nodules should be taken as the principle, and the prognosis is satisfactory.

BACKGROUND:Intervertebral disc degeneration is an important cause of low back pain.At present, there are many modeling methods for disc degeneration in China and abroad, but there is not a model for low back pain due to disc degeneration. OBJECTIVE:To compare the effect of mechanical puncture combined with tumor necrosis factor α and complete Freund's adjuvant with a conventional disc mechanical puncture alone. METHODS:A total of 18 male adult Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 3 groups, with 6 animals in each group. No treatment was given in the blank group.Animal models of intervertebral disc degeneration were made in the L4-5 segments of rats in the control using conventional mechanical puncture. In the experimental group,on the basis of mechanical puncture, tumor necrosis factor α+complete Freund's adjuvant was injected into the L4-5 intervertebral discs using a microinjector to establish a model of disc degeneration induced by mechanical puncture combined with inflammatory factors.Four weeks after surgery, the pain threshold of rats was measured by the hot plate method for assessing the perception of heat injury in rats with intervertebral disc degeneration.MRI examination was performed to observe the disc degeneration in each group.ELISA was used to detect the levels of serum tumor necrosis factor α,interleukin 1β,interleukin 6 and prostaglandin E2.Hematoxylin-eosin and Safranin O-fast green staining were used to observe the morphological changes of the disc. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:In terms of pain, the behavioral pain threshold of the experimental group was continuously decreased, and the levels of serum inflammatory factors were significantly higher compared with the control group. In terms of morphology, the MRI results showed that the L4-5 nucleus pulposus signal completely disappeared in the experimental group.Histopathological results showed that in the control group, the nucleus pulposus was intact, more notochord cells were visible, and some fiber rings were ruptured, while in the experimental group, there are fewer notochord cells and the structure of the nucleus pulposus and fibrous ring is disturbed, with the boundary disappearing. To conclude, mechanical puncture combined with tumor necrosis factor alpha and complete Freund's adjuvant can successfully establish a discogenic low back pain model in rats. This operation is simple and economical to achieve obvious disc degeneration and low back pain, with greatly shortened molding cycle. This model can be used as a reference for studying discogenic low back pain models.

The statement of heavy dampness leading to watery diarrhea was recorded in Huang Di Nei Jing(The Yellow Emperor's Inner Classic),which is not only an interpretation of the pathogenesis of diarrhea, but also one of the important principles to guide the clinical treatment of diarrhea in traditional Chinese medicine. The watery diarrhea can be caused by the invasion of external dampness,or results from the retention and accumulation of internal dampness. The combination of internal dampness and external dampness causes internal injury of spleen yang, and then the spleen yang is inactivated, which eventually results in diarrhea.Based on the pathogenesis of spleen yang inactivation and water-dampness retention and accumulation in heavy dampness leading to watery diarrhea, the therapeutic principle of warming and activating spleen yang should be performed.Modern Chinese medicine clinical practice and related mechanism research showed that the therapy of warming and activating spleen yang was closely related to the mitochondrial function in modern western medicine. The mechanism Linggui Zhugan Decoction and Fuzi Lizhong Decoction in relieving watery diarrhea by warming and activating spleen yang is related to the improvement of the energy metabolism disorder in the mitochondrion;the mechanism of Shengyang Yiwei Decoction and Shengyang Chushi Decoction in relieving watery diarrhea by raising yang and eliminating dampness is related to the improvement of mitochondrial damage in the inflammatory state;the mechanism of Xiao Jianzhong Decoction and Lizhong Decoction in relieving watery diarrhea by activating spleen is related to the improvement of mitochondrial oxidative damage. The exploration of the pathogenesis of heavy dampness leading to watery diarrhea and the modern mechanism of therapy of warming and activating spleen yang will provide reference for the study of the etiology and pathogenesis of pathogenic dampness and the dampness syndrome, and can provide reference for the prevention and treatment of diarrhea patients in the humid climate environment such as in Lingnan area and the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and under the combined influence of improper dietary structure in modern society.
